Vince Vaughn is the New James Garner in The Rockford Files Movie

This should be interesting (or completely familiar, depending on how they play it): According to Deadline, Vince Vaughn is set to star in a feature adaptation of The Rockford Files , the ’70s-era detective series that starred James Garner as a disheveled Los Angeles private eye. The involvement of scripting duo David Levien and Brian Koppelman ( Rounders , Ocean’s Thirteen , Solitary Man ) is somewhat promising, though Vaughn hasn’t shown any desire to move away from his tired Vince Vaughn shtick of late — and do audiences really want a Vince Vaughn-ified Jim Rockford? Besides, if Steve Carell and David Shore couldn’t make a Rockford reboot work, how will Vaughn & Co. fare? [ Deadline ]

Wedding Crashers Copycat Crime Lands University of Wisconsin Student in Jail

Chris Tucker Ready To Return To Movies

Chris Tucker used to get it in as a movie star after appearing in blockbusters like the “Rush Hour” trilogy and other films (“Friday” is STILL hilarious). But we haven’t seen the Decatur native in any roles since 2007 when he starred in “Rush Hour 3″ alongside Jackie Chan. Chris Tucker recently returned to his standup comic roots by doing some shows in comedy clubs and one at the Fox Theatre last year, and it may not be long before we see him in another film. According to MovieFone.com , Tucker is in talks with execs to co-star in two high-profile projects: ‘The Silver Linings Playbook” with Bradley Cooper and “Neighborhood Watch” with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill. VIDEO: Jennifer Aniston’s Inside the Actors Studio Preview Highlights The Break-Up

I love when Inside the Actors Studio grills people better known for television or music than movies. Who can forget when James Lipton turned to Jennifer Lopez and said, “Tell us about U-Turn .” I cried through the laughter through the tears. The same situation applies to Jennifer Aniston, who is forced to answer questions about Leprechaun , Picture Perfect , and Camp Cucamonga , if we’re lucky. Here are the first previews of her conversation with Lipton, which include special insight into The Break-Up and her NBC television series about pals.

Robert Pattinson On Playing Dads, Surviving Red Carpets

‘I’ve always got a baby,’ he says of upcoming ‘Breaking Dawn’ and ‘Water for Elephants.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson on the 2011 Golden Globes red carpet Photo: MTV News Robert Pattinson has baby fever: His characters in two of his upcoming projects are dads. The star laughed about playing a pop in both “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” and “Water for Elephants.” “I was just doing some additional stuff for ‘Water for Elephants,’ and there were loads of kids … I’ve always got a baby,” he joked to MTV News on the red carpet Sunday night at the 2011 Golden Globes . Sure, playing a dad may make him a little nervous, but does going to big, splashy awards shows still make the red-carpet-shy actor a bit jittery? “I think I’m just going more and more deaf,” about the pre-show commotion. “And it’s becoming more and more difficult to concentrate. I do entire interviews where they go, ‘You’ve got one minute!’ And I go, ‘Huh? Huh?’ ” During Pattinson’s chat with MTV News, he also talked about the just-released still from “Breaking Dawn” featuring Edward and Bella naked in bed together. “I love how they release that for the first one. They just give it all away,” he said about the photo . Pattinson laughed about what was running through his mind while shooting that scene, and told us the sex scenes with Stewart were no more awkward than with other actresses, such as his “Bel Ami” co-star Uma Thurman. “It’s always awkward, in a way, doing it with anybody,” he admitted. “But at the same time … it really depends on how it’s staged and stuff. It’s like doing Twister.” We’ve got the Golden Globes covered! Stick with MTV News for photos, videos, fashion and up-to-the-minute details from the awards show. ‘The Green Hornet’ Buzzes To Top Of Weekend Box Office

Seth Rogen’s action comedy stings its way to first place, while Vince Vaughn and Kevin James’ ‘The Dilemma’ settles for second. By Josh Wigler “The Green Hornet” Photo: Sony Pictures Seth Rogen as a superhero? Michel Gondry directing a big-budget mainstream action flick? If you had asked a handful of movies fan a year ago whether those were good or bad ideas, most would probably lean toward the latter. Well, those same fans would be wearing green egg all over their faces today, as Rogen and Gondry’s “The Green Hornet” had a sharp enough sting to easily win first place at the box office this past weekend. The Sony Pictures action comedy overcame years filled with bad buzz to rake in $34 million during its first weekend in theaters. It’s not an astounding number given the production budget behind “Green Hornet,” but the action-packed and gut-bursting story of pals Britt Reid (Rogen) and Kato (Jay Chou) seems to have the kind of longevity that could sustain itself over the next couple of weeks. Indeed, the only action competition it faces over the next month are “The Mechanic” and “I Am Number Four,” the first of which premieres in two weeks while the latter arrives toward the end of February. That still gives plenty of time for “The Green Hornet” to leave its mark at the box office. “The Dilemma,” the controversial Ron Howard-directed comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, followed behind with $17.4 million in second place. Vaughn- and James-led films typically perform a lot higher — “Grown Ups” secured $40.5 million in its opening weekend in 2010 while “Couples Retreat” snagged $34.3 in 2009, and with the added ingredient of an Oscar-winning director at the helm, it’s a bit curious that the comedy didn’t meet the two leading men’s usual standards. “True Grit” continued to blaze forward on the ol’ dusty trail with a third-place finish that brings the Coen brothers Western’s grand total up to $127.4 million. Rounding out the weekend’s top five performers were “The King’s Speech” in fourth place and “Black Swan” in fifth, solid results that come hot on the heels of their respective wins for Best Actor (Colin Firth) and Best Actress (Natalie Portman) at the 2011 Golden Globes . The Box-Office Top Five #1 “The Green Hornet” ($34 million) #2 “The Dilemma” ($17.4 million) #3 “True Grit” ($11.2 million) #4 “The King’s Speech” ($9.1 million) #5 “Black Swan” ($8.1 million) Upcoming Releases Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher have “No Strings Attached” at the box office next weekend, while Ed Harris and Colin Farrell search for “The Way Back” in Peter Weir’s new film. ‘The Dilemma’: The Reviews Are In

Critics aren’t quite on the same page about the Vince Vaughn/ Kevin James comedy. By Eric Ditzian Vince Vaughn in “The Dilemma” Photo: Universal Pictures Vince Vaughn can open the heck out of a relationship comedy. Stellar reviews, weak ones — it hardly seems to matter. “The Break-Up” debuted with $39.1 million in 2006, following by “Four Christmases” ($31.1 million) in ’08 and “Couples Retreat” ($34.3 million) last year. So we shouldn’t pay undue heed to the middling reviews “The Dilemma” has been attracting. While Vaughn’s latest comedy — directed by Ron Howard and co-starring Kevin James — likely won’t crack the $30 million mark, it should settle into the high $20 million range after the four-day weekend is over. Part of the problem, perhaps, is that “Dilemma” faces off against “The Green Hornet,” and youngish date-nighters might be swayed toward Seth Rogen’s hip action flick rather than Vaughn’s defiantly un-“Swingers”-like offering. Which one is the right choice for you at the multiplex? Take a gander at what the critics are saying about “The Dilemma” and decide for yourself. The Story “The dilemma of Ronny (Vaughn) is whether to tell his best bud and business partner Nick (Kevin James) that Nick’s wife Geneva (Winona Ryder) has been cheating on him. In launching a stealth intel op on her affair, Ronny gets himself in absurd situations (like getting covered with welts after climbing through poisonous plants in a botanical garden) that trouble his patient-but-exasperated girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly), who is also close friends with the other couple. The movie is much like a really long beer commercial — but a really dark one.” — Kyle Smith, New York Post The Performances “As he did in the even-more-painful ‘The Break-Up,’ Vaughn deploys his knack for high-grade Woody Allen nattering as a kind of verbal battering ram, mercilessly pounding everyone into submission. He’s funny and more than a little scary, but he also gets to show off his sensitive side: He weeps, he prays. Saline shows up elsewhere, too, most notably in a fake-crying diner demo that might be a twist on ‘When Harry Met Sally.’ Ryder is terrific in this sequence, brittle and unlikable in others; James is panicky from start to finish; Connelly, as the only real grown-up in the picture, glides through it all with mature detachment.” — Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle The Mature Vince “From the first scene, it’s clear that screenwriter Allan Loeb (‘Things We Lost in the Fire,’ ‘The Switch’) has created a far more adult world than we’re used to seeing Vaughn navigate. Rather than ‘Old School’ issues like how many kegs does a frat party need, or ‘Wedding Crasher’ tips on cruising for quickies, here the discussion over dinner leans toward the philosophical, with the guys wearing suits and sampling the wine like they could actually tell if it was a decent vintage.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times The Tone ” ‘The Dilemma’ is a movie that faces a dilemma of its own. Namely, is it a comedy with dark undertones or a serious film lightened by occasional bursts of laughter? Unfortunately, director Ron Howard can’t seem to make up his mind, so the movie sputters ahead, never feeling sure of itself. There are a few big laughs, but there are also long stretches in which nothing funny happens.” — Randy Cordova, The Arizona Republic The Final Word “Not that ‘The Dilemma’ is exactly ‘Blue Valentine.’ But within its slick, cozy, commercial parameters it has an interestingly rough texture. There is some rangy alt-rock to go with the classic hits, and views of lived-in Chicago neighborhoods to offset the postcard-ready skyline shots. If the film never probes too deeply into the pain and frustration of Nick and Geneva’s marriage, that may be because it sees them almost entirely from Ronny’s perspective. Though he has feelings, he’s ultimately a pretty shallow guy. And the movie is not all that deep, but it does go further than many of its kind in acknowledging the hurt and difficulty that are the deep wellsprings of any comedy worthy of the name. Which, to come full circle, is what ‘The Dilemma,’ against all expectations, turns out to be.” — A.O. Scott, The New York Times Share your “Dilemma” reviews in the comments below!
