S hirley Chisholm ’s career journey broke barriers for Black women in the realm of politics and now 50 years after she made history by becoming the first African-American woman elected to the United States Congress, the Brooklyn native will receive a major honor in her hometown. According to Curbed New York , a new Brooklyn park will be named after Chisholm. Cuomo is aiming to revitalize neighborhoods in the borough by creating more jobs, providing affordable housing, improving education, and transforming outdoor spaces into parks. The park will span 407 acres and feature paths for biking and hiking, picnic areas, concession stands, and a waterfront for water activities. It will also possibly include spaces for educational programming and an amphitheater. “Shirley Chisholm led the fight to improve the health and wellness of underserved communities that we carry on today with the Vital Brooklyn initiative, and we are proudly naming this park after her in admiration for the example of leadership and devotion she set for all of us,” said Gov. Cuomo in a statement, according to the news outlet. Shirley Chisholm State Park is slated to be completed by next summer. Chisholm served as New York’s 12th Congressional District representative from 1969 through 1983. In 1972, she became the first Black person to run for president as well as the first woman to seek the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Black women who have shaped our country’s history are finally receiving recognition and credit where it is due. In September it was reported that journalism pioneer Alice Allison Dunnigan —the first Black woman to receive press credentials to cover the White House—will be honored posthumously by the Newseum in Washington, D.C. with a statue. Yes, it seems Kim is a firm believer that there are some things that are bigger than politics. Which is why she’s setting aside her differences with the Donald in service of an important cause. It’s been confirmed that Kim will pay a visit to the White House today in hopes of securing a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, a 62-year-old great-grandmother who’s currently serving a life sentence at the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama. Johnson — a first-time, non-violent offender — was sentenced in 1997 on money laundering and drug conspiracy charges. Normally, appealing to Trump for clemency would be the ultimate long-shot, but those who are well-acquainted with the case say there’s a good chance that Kim’s plea might be successful. Ivanka Trump has expressed her belief that Johnson should be pardoned, and Kanye’s support of the president has reportedly put Kim in good standing with Trump. Along with attorney Shawn Holley, Kim has been campaigning for Johnson’s release for quite some time. Holley has stated that she believes today’s sit-down with Trump represents Johnson’s best chance yet at being pardoned. Last year, Marie wrote a heartfelt thank you note to Kim, in which she stated her belief that the two of them are part of “a defining moment in history.” “THE BATTLE IS ON!” her missive concluded. Difficult as it is to believe, it seems Ivanka is not Kim’s only ally within the White House, as Jared Kushner has been quietly working toward more lenient sentencing and improved prison conditions, citing America’s sky-high incarceration rate as one of its greatest shames. We’d credit Kush for breaking with the rest of the administration by demonstrating an ounce of human compassion, but he may have been acting out of semi-selfish motives. Jared’s father, Charles Kushner, was released from prison in 2006 after serving a two-year sentence for tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign donations. Playboy Playmate Claims To Have Had Affair With The President Yet another woman has stepped forward and claimed to have had an extra-marital affair with Donald Trump . Karen McDougal, former actress and Playboy Playmate of the Year admitted to “secret hotel-room meetings, payoffs, and complex legal agreements to keep affairs—sometimes multiple affairs carried out by Trump simultaneously—out of the press.” McDougal details an intimate encounter with 45: “I was so nervous! Piers Morgan Says A Rejected Omarosa Used Homophobic Slurs Against Him Piers Morgan is pretty well known for coming out of his face with some pretty outlandish and offensive statements . But, as it turns out he was on the receiving end of some pretty biting words from none other than former White House worker and current reality show contestant Omarosa Manigault-Newman. He has some pretty choice words for her as well in a recent op-ed for Daily Mail : I’ve met a lot of vile human beings in my life, from dictators and terrorists to sex abusers and wicked conmen. But I’ve never met anyone quite so relentlessly loathsome as Omarosa; a vicious, duplicitous, lying, conniving, backstabbing piece of work. He says that when the two of them appeared on Celebrity Big Brother together years back, Omarosa proposed that they start smashing to get extra camera time on the show. Omarosa sidled up to me at the New York Mercantile Exchange and said, quite seriously: ‘Piers, do you want a showmance?’ ‘A what?’ I replied. ‘A showmance. You know, a romance on the show – we get it on together. Happens all the time on Apprentice. Everyone has sex together. Then we can make lots of money out of it.’ I stared at her grasping, ferociously ambitious little eyes, and laughed: ‘You must be joking, you deluded woman.’ She didn’t take it well. ‘What are you? Gay?’ Apparently, Omarosa was so pissed about having her cooter rejected that she rode that whole gay thing against Piers for the remainder of her time in the house — using abusive language and homophobic slurs against Piers on-camera, provoking him with talks of his troubled marriage, threatening him with violence, and even questioning his sexuality in the boardroom. ‘Shut the f**k up, a**hole,’ snarled Omarosa Manigault-Newman at me. ‘How are your kids going to feel when they wake up and discover their dad’s a f**king f*gg*t?’… ‘The mother of your children hates you Piers,’ she giggled on camera one morning, ‘and your children f**king hate you, they’re embarrassed by you. Is there another man raising your children?’ (None of these things was true) On another occasion, in front of boxing champion Lennox Lewis, she said: ‘Hey Piers, I hear you got caught sucking a gay waiter’s c*ck in a hotel pool?’ Piers says she never heard that, she was just making things up on the spot to embarrass him.
