Casey Affleck Breaks Silence, Addresses Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Casey Affleck has finally spoken out about the sexual harassment charges that have plagued him for months. For years , really, but these allegations have especially come to the forefront for the actor ever since the release (and subsequent critical acclaim) of his latest film, Manchester by the Sea. Affleck, of course, was awarded with the Best Actor trophy for his role in this drama on Sunday night at the Oscars. About seven years ago, however, two women who worked with Affleck on the movie I’m Still Here filed separate lawsuits, both of which accused him of “uninvited and unwelcome sexual advances in the workplace.” Affleck denied the allegations and both cases were settled out of court. In a statement made at the time, a spokesperson for the star said the dispute had “been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties and the lawsuits are being dismissed.” But questions have remained. Many folks have been uncomfortable with the recognition (in the form of positive press and many awards) Affleck has received in the wake of his Manchester by the Sea performance. Brie Larson, for example, presented Affleck with the Academy Award this week…  … and then stood around on stage, refusing to clap for him . Affleck has remained entirely silent on this controversial topic ever since the allegations returned to the spotlight last year. But he finally addressed them in a post-Oscars interview with The Boston Globe. This is what he said: I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else. There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time. The only other time Affleck addressed these charges was in a chat with The New York Times several months ago. He made the same sort of general, mostly meaningless statement in early November, too. “It was settled to the satisfaction of all,” he told the paper, adding: “I was hurt and upset – I am sure all were – but I am over it. It was an unfortunate situation – mostly for the innocent bystanders of the families of those involved.” Affleck has said that the terms of his settlement with the alleged victims prohibit him from speaking in detail about the lawsuits. Which is fair. But he might as well have saved himself a few words and simply released a shrug emoji as his statement in these cases. That would have said just as much, really. Have You Ever Tried To Whiten Your Name On You Resume To Get A Job?

…Employers won’t readily admit it, but some prefer “nice,” “safe,” and “easy” to pronounce names because it makes their lives, well, easier… It’s a sad and unfortunate reality, but sometimes appeasing employers with a less-ethnic sounding name makes all the difference. That doesn’t make the practice right, of course, and it may not be the right decision for you. But it was the right decision for Actress Chloe Bennet, who chose to make the name change. The “deceivingly Asian” (so says her Instagram) singer and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starlet’s government name is Chloe Wang. But Hollywood being Hollywood, Chloe, who is Chinese and White, decided to change her last name to Bennet (also her father’s first name) to see if it made a difference when it came to getting roles. It sho ’nuff did… [ MadameNoire ] How To Unapologetically Negotiate Your Worth In The Workplace …Words of wisdom are nice but many women still have difficulty finding the actual words to ask for what they are worth in the workplace. In fact, more than 60 percent of millennial women say they don’t know how to ask for more money, found a recent survey conducted by Levo, a career network for millennials. This fact remains even though 83 percent of respondents agree that it’s important to negotiate their salary and/or benefits package and 83 percent believe that they will earn less money by not negotiating. Less than half of the women surveyed, just 41 percent, negotiated any part (salary and/or benefits) of their job offer, mainly due to a lack of knowledge on how to negotiate. A whopping 66 percent said they did know how to negotiate and 63 percent felt uncomfortable negotiating… [ MadameNoire ] Atlanta Photographer Cam Kirk Launches Kickstarter Campaign To Feature Rappers On Billboards Photographer Cam Kirk is on a mission to litter Atlanta’s skyline with even more stars than it already has. Matt Baier: Accused of Sexual Assault By Ex-Girlfriend

In the year since we first learned that Amber Portwood is dating Matt Baier , a number of troubling details about the 44-year-old’s past have emerged. First we learned that Baier is a deadbeat dad who might have as many as eight children by six different women. Shortly thereafter, we found out that Baier tried to hookup with other Teen Mom  stars before eventually turning his attention to Amber. There have been many, many red flags that should have given Amber ample reason to kick this guy to the curb months ago, but they all pale in comparison to the latest revelation, reported moments ago by Radar Online. According to court documents obtained by the site, Baier stands accused of sexually assaulting an ex-girlfriend less than a year before before he started dating Amber. The alleged victim filed for a restraining order against Baier in may of 2014. Her affidavit includes the following description of their encounter: “I went to Matt Baier’s residence to have dinner and a date. He started touching me inappropriately in a sexual manner. Afterwards, he sexually assaulted me. “I am in fear of him and how he will react to these allegations, and am requesting a restraining order.” After determining that Baier presented a threat of “immediate danger of abuse,” a judge ordered him to remain at least 100 yards away from the alleged victim and her workplace. A source says the woman later asked that the order be lifted, “because she was afraid [Baier] would retaliate if she didn’t.”

BOSSIP Exclusive: Live TV Killer’s Family Didn’t Approve Of His Homosexuality

Cousin James Flanagan Told BOSSIP He Believes Vester Flanagan Snapped The family of the gunman who murdered two journalists on live TV knew he was gay, but didn’t agree with it, a relative told BOSSIP. James Flanagan said the family tolerated his cousin Vester Flanagan Jr’s sexuality, but didn’t support it. “I don’t think too many families are cool with that, they accept that,” Flanagan told BOSSIP Friday from his home in Vallejo, Ca. “That ain’t the way it’s supposed to be, and when you go against the good man’s wishes…what is it? Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” Vester Flanagan gunned down his two ex-colleagues, reporter Alison Parker, 24, and camera operator Adam Ward, 27, during a live shot Aug. 26 in Virginia, before killing himself. Flanagan, 82, said he last talked to Vester three or four months ago, and he never spoke of feeling targeted in the workplace because of his race and sexual orientation. Flanagan said his cousin seemed normal and didn’t appear to be unhinged. “I’ve never seen him come out like that,” the Korean War veteran told BOSSIP. “I never saw him blow up like that. You never really can tell what’s on a person’s mind.” The cousin said he believed Vester snapped. “I don’t think nothing like this is planned, it just hits you,” Flanagan said. Still, he conceded that he might have missed warning signs from his troubled relative. “As far as I know, he was normal like everybody else,” Flanagan said. “I couldn’t see what was on the inside. You see what’s on the outside.” “The only thing we can say, something went wrong,” Flanagan added. “Where? We can’t say. I guess nobody will ever know.”
