F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton has been doing major numbers, which comes as no surprise… After leading both the U.S. and Canadian box office, raking in an estimated $157.5 million, Gray has officially become the highest-grossing black director of a single film in domestic sales, according to Forbes. Gray beat out both Tim Story’s Fantastic Four, which earned $154.6 million back in 2005 and Keenen Ivory Wayans’s Scary Movie… However, Straight Outta Compton’s international box office success doesn’t quite measure up to either of the aforementioned film’s international box office million’s. With $24.9 million in foreign ticket sales, Scary Movie’s $121 and Fantastic Four’s $175.8. Even still, Straight Outta Compton’s dominated the domestic lane, and brought a much needed hip-hop film to the forefront. [ MadameNoire ] 911 Dispatcher Who Failed Tamir Rice Resigns …Beth Mandl, the Cleveland 911 dispatcher who neglected to tell responding officers that they were dealing with a child who was potentially holding a toy gun shortly before Tamir Rice was gunned down last November, has resigned. Reports Cleveland.com: Beth Mandl sent a two-sentence resignation letter to the department on July 16 after failing to show up for work since April 3. “I have enjoyed working here and I will miss you all,” the letter said. Mandl signed her letter days after the department gave the long-absent dispatcher an ultimatum: provide a “satisfactory explanation” for her absence or be considered resigned. Mandl said the job was stressful and spoke about quitting before she abandoned the post, according to a department letter. She was not paid during her absence. Yesterday, Kathy Griffin quit Fashion Police and broke the news to fans with a series of tweets explaining that she and the show’s producers simply had different ideas about what should be considered acceptable. Griffin gave the impression that by stepping down, she was standing up for kindness and equality and a world in which differences would be celebrated rather than mocked. Yes, Griffin’s reasons for quitting Fashion Police seemed totally out of character for an insult comic who idolized Joan Rivers, so it was no big surprise when TMZ broke the news that producers allowed Kathy to quit in order to spare her the embarrassment of being fired. Earlier this week, Griffin bashed Giuliana Rancic for comments Rancic made about Zendaya Coleman’s hair that many have deemed racist. Kathy’s target may have been Giuliana, but she essentially threw the whole show under the bus, complaining about ideas that were pitched by writers, such as a “Whore Score” segment which Griffin says she rejected for being too mean. “Name calling and alliteration with no comedic context is simply the lowest hanging fruit,” said Griffin. Such comments struck many as oddly bitter, as Griffin publicly lobbied for a spot on the Fashion Police panel just a few months ago. Insiders say Kathy attended a meeting in which producers informed her that they were considering firing her just hours before she tweeted her resignation. It’s official – Kelly Osbourne is no longer one of the co-hosts of the long-running E! series Fashion Police. TMZ is reporting that Kelly quit the show today amidst escalating tensions with producers. The recent controversy surrounding Giuliana Rancic’s comments about Zendaya’s hair may have been the final straw for Osbourne, but sources say she’s been butting heads with her co-hosts and crew for quite some time. Earlier this week, Osbourne said that she would quit unless Rancic apologized to Zendaya . Rancic did so (twice), Zendaya accepted the apology, but Osbourne decided to walk anyway. Apparently, the 30-year-old daughter of Ozzy had been dissatisfied with the way the show was being produced ever since it was revamped following the death of Joan Rivers . While the news of her departure broke just minutes ago, rumors about who might replace Osbourne on the show have already begun to circulate. Insiders say it looks as though Khloe Kardashian may join Fashion Police in Osbourne’s absence. Khloe has worked on the show as a “special correspondent” in the past, and she apparently gets along well producers.
