Grease Stars John Travolta And Olivia Newton-John To Croon Again For Xmas Album

The Grease duo who melted hearts as love-torn high school couple Danny and Sandy in the 1978 smash big screen musical are joining forces again on a holiday album. This Christmas: John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John is due out November 13th, almost 35 years after their classic brought the two together, setting a new standard for teen romance pics at the time. A chance text from Newton-John to Travolta one Christmas prompted Travolta to come up with the idea for a Christmas collection. Newton-John noted that their Grease hit “You’re the One That I Want” had just become the best-selling duet in pop music history. “From the moment we decided to do this, magic happened,” Travolta said as quoted on Amazon . “Everyone we contacted agreed to do it.” Continuing Travolta said, “My desire was to make This Christmas an intimate album, not something too ostentatious or showy. I wanted people to be able to play it around the house or in the car during the holidays, and make us part of your celebration. Gathering around house listening to Christmas music has always been an important part of that time of the year to my family.” They’ve also solicited the vocals from some fellow celebs to add extra pipe-wattage to the album. Barbra Streisand, Kenny G, Cliff Richard, Tony Bennett and James Taylor are among those whose famous voices can be heard on various tracks. “It just fell into place,” added Newton-John, a four-time Grammy Award-winner, who has five number-one singles under her belt and 100 million albums in sales worldwide. “With our busy schedules, I don’t know how we got it done. John and I have always connected. That’s never gone away. When we’re together, we have a good laugh and feel bonded to one another. We’ve been through some amazing experiences together.” And the potential cash cow that the album may generate will head to their respective charities. Travolta’s charity named after his late son Jett will go to fight children’s disabilities, including autism and seizures, while Newton-John’s will go toward the search for a cure for cancer and helping victims of the disease. And here’s the Track List: 1. Baby It’s Cold Outside 2. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree (featuring Kenny G) 3. I’ll Be Home for Christmas (featuring Barbra Streisand) 4. This Christmas (featuring Chick Corea) 5. Silent Night 6. The Christmas Waltz 7. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (featuring Cliff Richard) 8. Winter Wonderland (featuring Tony Bennett and The Count Basie Orchestra) 9. White Christmas 10. I Think You Might Like It 11. The Christmas Song 12. Deck the Halls (featuring James Taylor) 13. Auld Lang Syne/Christmas Time Is Here (Medley) [Source: Yahoo , Amazon ]

The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Reunion Part One

The Real Housewives of New Jersey opens with its first of three “Reunion” shows and Andy needs a whip and a chair to keep these women from tearing one another apart.  We’ll recap how the claws come out in our THG +/- review. The Housewives haven’t been in the same room together since the fateful night before last year’s reunion when the Posche fashion show episode was filmed. Since then Teresa has sold yet another cookbook. That’s three so far and they are all New York Times best sellers.  Minus 10 .  Who are you people buying these things and why? Caroline is writing her own book.  Minus 9. Just what the world needs, another book from a supposed real housewife. Kathy’s had some work done.  Nose job and lip injections.  I’ll give her a plus 5 .  She looks good but I’m with Andy on the flashing yellow light.  It’s too easy to take these things too far.  She needs to stop now. Unfortunately Jacqueline’s news isn’t so cheery.  Her beautiful son Nicholas has been diagnosed with autism and at the moment he’s regressing and no longer speaking. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and brought me to tears…until Teresa opened her big mouth.  Minus 13. Teresa simply doesn’t know when to stay quiet.  I almost couldn’t blame Caroline when she told her “Listen, you in your f*ckin’ Christmas pageant dress, sit back and shut the f*ck up. We’re talking about this kid.” And I have to agree. The strange, sparkly green dress was outlandish. Minus 8. Everyone at this reunion has had enough of Teresa and they all tell her so but watching Jacqueline finally take the blinders off is the most satisfying.  Plus 11 . Jacqueline was Teresa’s lap dog for so long that it’s great to see her stand up for herself.  It only took Teresa blaming Jacqueline for setting up Melissa.  Unbelievable!  Teresa takes no responsibility for anything and blames the stripper debacle on everyone else. Whenever Teresa doesn’t like what someone else is saying, which is pretty much whenever they open their mouths, she calls them a liar and tells them to shut up. This prompts Caroline to say that  if no one can speak she’d like to go home. She’s hungry. Hilarious. Plus 10 . Then Lauren joins them looking like a walking ad for the Lap Band.  She’s lost 35 lbs and is looking good. Plus 7 . She looks so good that I wonder if she’s gone to Kathy’s guy to have a little work done on her face as well.  Perhaps it’s just the weight loss and better makeup.  Hard to tell. Teresa says she’s apologized to them all…in In Touch magazine. But to their faces she calls them names.  She calls Caroline an old hag and says Kathy is Caroline’s puppet. But even Melissa seems to be old news to Teresa as her main focus is on fighting Jacqueline.  Jacqueline admits that Teresa didn’t want Melissa and Kathy on the show.  Jacqueline even claims that Teresa prodded her to leak the information about Melissa’s supposed stripper days. Teresa calls her a liar and swears she never said Melissa was a stripper when we’ve all seen her say it on camera more than once. Minus 15. It seems the best Teresa has for Melissa tonight is to accuse her of wearing the same eye shadow Teresa wore last year because of course Teresa cornered the market on sparkle shadow.  Minus 10 .  Yes, Teresa, millions of women out there are copying you, not just your sister-in-law. But once Teresa and Kathy turn on one another things get down and dirty between the cousins.  Teresa says her mother told her that Kathy almost divorced Richie causing Kathy to call Teresa’s mother a liar and her father a coward.  Minus 12 .  Ladies, can we keep the parents out of this? Apparently not. Teresa bad mouths Kathy’s deceased father.  Little does she realize that Rosie’s back stage and now wants her dead.   Is Rosie lost, running around back stage?  Is she so enraged she doesn’t know where she’s going?  I’m sure no good comes of this but to find out we’ll have to tune back in next week for part two. Episode total = -44!               Season total = -482!

WATCH: Jackman, Hathaway And Seyfried Sing In Extended Making Of Les Miserables Clip

Do you hear the people sing? Actually, they’re not just people, they’re ac-tors ! I’m talking Hugh Jackman , Anne Hathaway , Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne , the cast of Oscar winner Tom Hooper ‘s poverty-never-looked-so-expensive film adaptation of Les Miserables . Each can be heard performing in this extended clip about Hooper’s novel approach to making of the movie musical that’s based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel about French politics and revolution. Russell Crowe , who plays Inspector Javert and once sang for the much-mocked band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, is also in the clip, although he doesn’t show off his pipes. As Jackman, Redmayne, Hooper and others explain in the video, the songs for musical films are usually recorded before filming starts, a potentially antiseptic process that doesn’t take into account the emotional give-and-take that occurs when actors face off in a scene or tweak their performances from take to take.  Instead of pre-recording the songs for Les Miz , Hooper had his actors perform their songs live in each scene while listening to a pianist whose also-live accompaniment was piped through the actors’ earpieces.  (The tinkling of the ivories will be replaced by a full orchestra when the finished film debuts on Christmas Day.  The process  allowed the actors  “the spontaneity of normal film acting,” explains Jackman in the clip, which appears below. Make sure to watch Hathaway’s heart-wrenching singing as the dying prostitute Fantine.  Powerful stuff, and when you factor in her much-different but no less compelling performance as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises  this past summer, it looks like this is going to be a big year for the dark-haired beauty. Isn’t She Engaged? Wild Child Miley Cyrus Was Caught Sucking Face With Another Chick In NYC!

Where are her parents? Wait, where is her fiance!?!? Miley Cyrus is attracting attention for all the wrong reasons as usual. This week the teen singer/actress has tongues wagging about her doing a little same-sex kissing, and of course everyone is talking about how the timing is perfect because of her new platinum short “boy” haircut. The former “Hannah Montana” star, who recently became engaged to longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth of “Hunger Games” fame, is sowing her wild oats before the wedding – by smooching other women. “Miley decided to live a little before she ties the knot,” an insider told The ENQUIRER. “She wants to have some fun and laughs before she gets bogged down with wedding plans.” Miley, 19, was spotted sharing an intimate kiss with an unidentified woman at New York’s trendy club The Darby on Aug. 23 while her 22-year-old fiance was hard at work shooting his new film, “Paranoia,” in Philadelphia. “Miley has always been outspoken over her support of gay rights,” the source continued. “She even sports a small equal sign tattoo on her ring finger to signify her belief that all love is equal. “So it’s certainly not surprising that she’s experimenting with girls before she walks down the aisle.” This isn’t the first time the onetime Disney darling has locked lips with another young lovely. In 2010, she puckered up with a cutie onstage during a performance of “Can’t Be Tamed” at London’s legendary G-A-Y nightclub. At the time, the “Party in the USA” singer defended the kiss by claiming “nothing happened” and there are “more important things in the world” than two girls kissing onstage. But Miley’s behavior was enough for self-professed bi actress Evan Rachel Wood to take notice! After seeing Miley’s new do, Wood tweeted: “I called it! Miley Cyrus is leaning toward gay!” Meanwhile, Miley’s career remains red-hot as she recently inked a deal to appear in a two-part episode of the hit sitcom “Two and a Half Men.” “Miley’s having the time of her life right now,” added the source. “She knows she’ll have to settle down once she and Liam get hitched, but for now she seems to be living by the motto, ‘Girls just want to have fun!’” SMH. If Miley is “having the time of her life right now” and feels the need to “live a little before tying the knot,” what is even the point of getting married? She’s only 19 anyway! What’s the rush? And what gives with the making out with girls? Is she really attracted to women or is this just about how much she can get away with without Liam walking away? Source

High And Low: Slapstick Savant Buster Keaton And (Surprise!) Horror Huckster William Castle Bring The Funny

Given the Labor Day weekend, most of this week’s high-profile home-video releases are TV box sets timed to promote the new seasons of such returning favorites as  The Good Wife and Grey’s Anatomy . That doesn’t mean film lovers are out of luck: there are new editions of beloved comedies from two very different directors who both managed to be brand names in their chosen fields. HIGH: The Navigator:  Ultimate Edition  (Kino Classics; $29.95 DVD/$34.95 Blu-Ray) Who’s Responsible: Directed by Buster Keaton and Donald Crisp from a story by Clyde Bruckman, Joseph Mitchell and Jean Havez; starring Keaton and Kathryn McGuire. What It’s All About: Keaton stars as the rich and thoroughly useless Rollo Treadway, who has his chauffeur drive him across the street so he can propose to the equally wealthy and spoiled Betsy O’Brien (McGuire). She turns him down, but through a series of complicated circumstances, the two of them find themselves alone on a ship in the middle of the Pacific. Things start out disastrously — she boils a giant pot of water to cook one egg — but they figure out a way to survive, just in time to face attack by angry islanders. Why It’s Schmancy: Academics, list-makers and cinematic know-it-alls of every stripe champion Keaton’s The General as one of the greatest silent comedies ever made, but I’ve always preferred this 1924 slapstick-heavy nautical epic. From the early scenes of the two young dilettantes trying to figure out who else is on the boat to Keaton’s underwater antics in a pre-SCUBA diving suit — which he later turns into a raft — The Navigator shows the legendary director in top form and makes the perfect movie to show to someone who’s never seen a silent movie before. Why You Should Buy It (Again): The “Ultimate Edition” marks the Blu-Ray debut of this classic, although both the Blu-Ray and the DVD releases include the HD master from the original 35mm negative, tinted to the filmmaker’s specifications. Both editions also include an orchestral score by Robert Israel, a featurette on the making of the film and Keaton’s ongoing fascination with boats as a source of comedy. Feature-length audio commentary by silent film historians Robert Arkus and Yair Solan, a photo gallery, and the audio of “Asleep in the Deep,” a 1913 hit song referenced in the film, gives this package some real depth. LOW: Zotz! (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment; $20.95 DVD) Who’s Responsible: Directed by William Castle, written by Ray Russell, based on the novel by Walter Karig; starring Tom Poston, Jim Backus, Margaret Dumont. What It’s All About: College professor Jonathan Jones (Poston) finds an ancient amulet and discovers that he can use it to slow down time, cause great pain and even (when it’s pointed at someone and the title of the film is uttered) kill people. Jones tries to pass the talisman along to the Department of Defense, but the government agents think he’s nuts. The Soviets, however, want to get their hands on it, and wackiness ensues. Why It’s Fun: Zotz! marked something of a departure for Castle, best known for thrillers and horror movies like The Tingler , The House on Haunted Hill , Homicidal and 13 Ghosts . What really made Castle famous was his love of gimmicks, whether it was insuring his audiences against death by fright, wiring theater seats to buzz unsuspecting patrons or unleashing a giant inflatable skeleton to fly through the theater. With Zotz!, he toned things down a bit, merely handing out replica medallions to audience members. Still, it’s a silly and entertaining comedy, featuring a rare lead role for legendary TV second banana Poston, best known as the doofus foil to Bob Newhart on his various hit sitcoms. Why You Should Buy It (Again): Sony is offering the film through its movies-on-demand (i.e., they don’t make it until you buy it) label “Choice Collection,” which in this case means there aren’t any extras. If you’re interested in Castle, you should instead spring for the William Castle Film Collection box set, which features Zotz! and several other Castle classics as well as a great documentary on the huckster filmmaker:  Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story . Alonso Duralde has written about film for The Wrap , Salon and MSNBC.com. He also co-hosts the Linoleum Knife podcast and regularly appears on   What The Flick?! (The Young Turks Network) .  He is a senior programmer for the Outfest Film Festival in Los Angeles and a pre-screener for the Sundance Film Festival. He also the author of two books: Have Yourself A Movie Little Christmas (Limelight Editions) and 101 Must-See Movies for Gay Men  (Advocate Books). I’ve also got a few more shots of the chick showing off her abs, her amazing bikini body and hamming it up with some friends. I want to take a bite out of that thing. Call me.
