“I’ve Been Sleeping With My Uncle Who Was In Prison For 18 Years”

Dear Gay Best Friend, I know that you hate long letters, so I will try and keep this two year saga short. I began a sexual relationship with my uncle two years ago. I was 26-years old and he was 45-years old. He was in prison for about 18 years. I visited him every weekend from age 11 until I was about 24-years old. I believe that for a while we were in love with each other (I’ve heard the saying that you can’t help who you love, but….). He initiated the relationship and I, knowing that I would lose my uncle and cause some major drama if I told anyone what was going on, kept it quiet. About a year in, I couldn’t take him disrespecting and using me anymore, especially lying to me about loving me. He kept lying about his feelings for me even after times he told me he just wanted to have sex with me and that he didn’t want to mess around anymore. He would always come back and say he loved me and missed me. I knew it wasn’t true, but because I still loved him in a romantic way, I allowed it. Now that was my fault. After a big family blow-up, in which he denied the affair even happened and called me a crazy lying bitch, (which I know now that he was trying to keep his girlfriend whom he was about to have a baby with), he finally came out and said the truth about us. He apologized to me. I was hurt and upset that my favorite uncle that watched me grow up could treat me in this way and that I allowed it. I was angry. Sorry doesn’t fix everything. My family stated that my uncle and I should try and repair our relationship. Honestly, I wasn’t ready for that, and as of yet it hasn’t happened. Mainly because after that family blow-up and a 4-month or so hiatus we began seeing each other, again. He went on lying to our family and his girlfriend and to me. Telling me that no matter what he would never stop seeing me, he misses me all the time, etc. I stopped the relationship after Christmas and told him to stop calling and texting me. My issue is that my family doesn’t know that we began again and can’t understand why I don’t want to be around him or his girlfriend, her four other kids and their baby. I know this man doesn’t care about me and I don’t believe he ever did. He did more to suit himself than he ever did to be an uncle to me. Especially, after apologizing to me and then calling me only for sex. I feel he is not my uncle and I don’t know who he is. Am I wrong for not wanting to be involved with family functions in which he will be in attendance? Is this whole thing my fault? – Division In My Family Click here for Terrance Dean’s reply

Dave Franco Talks ‘Fright Night,’ Working With Big Bro James Franco

As one of MTV News’ 11 for ’11, up-and-comer also plans to shop around a Web series about college life. By Kara Warner Dave Franco Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images If you are not already familiar with the name Dave Franco, chances are you will be soon. You might recognize the enterprising 25-year-old from his work on “Greek,” “Privileged” and “Scrubs.” He’s also appeared in several videos on FunnyOrDie.com, including a series called “Acting With James Franco” (James Franco is Dave’s brother). But these are all things from the past. Looking ahead to what’s in store for Franco in 2011, we’ll see him on screens big and small, in front of and behind the camera. When MTV News caught up with the up-and-comer recently, one of our 11 for ’11, we chatted about “Fright Night,” a TV series he’d like to get off the ground and whether we’ll see him at the Oscars in a skit alongside his big bro . MTV : We’ve talked about “Fright Night” before, and even though you’re sworn to secrecy about plot details, have you seen any of the film yet? Dave Franco : I have not seen anything, but I’ve only heard good things so far. I may have mentioned this before, but despite being a vampire movie, it’s very grounded and realistic. If I had to compare it to another vampire movie, I would say “Let the Right One In,” where everything is treated with realism but the only difference is that “Fright Night” happens to be hilarious too, mainly due to really funny actors like David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Colin Farrell is hilarious also. MTV : You’ve also mentioned that you’ve been working on your own material. What can you tell us about that? Franco : This past semester, I was working more behind the camera, and I directed, produced and wrote this Web series about college life. The basic idea stems from a conversation I had with my friend about how there are really only a handful of projects at most, whether it be film or TV, that really capture what college is like. For the most part, it’s all sensationalized and over-the-top. We decided we wanted to give a very HBO-type look at what really happens in college. We figured, ‘It’s crazy enough as it is; let’s just show what’s really going on.’ So we followed a handful of kids at USC throughout the semester, and the whole tone is a little strange, because it’s part documentary, part reality, part scripted. It’s kind of a weird mesh of everything, but it came out really cool. I hope people respond well to it. I’m happy, because we were able to capture what we set out for. … I went to USC, and watching this footage, I can attest that this is really what it’s like. This is what happens on a typical night. MTV : Sounds intriguing. Where do you want it to end up? Franco : We still need to figure that out. It’s all edited and everything is ready to go. We just have to figure out how we want to present it and where. We’ve always wanted to get this on TV, ideally an HBO, Showtime or FX. We’re almost using this Web series as a pitching tool that will hopefully generate some interest, and then we can go from there. MTV : What else are you working on? Franco : We’re filming a couple of Funny or Die videos later this month. There’s also a feature film that I’m writing for my brother and I to star in, where we play versions of ourselves named Davie and James. Without giving away too much, it all takes place around Thanksgiving and Christmas break around our hometown of Palo Alto [California]. Our real family will be in it, my real friends from home will be in it, and the vibe of it is going to be an extended version of our Funny or Die videos. It’s going to be difficult for me, because it’s now a 90-minute version of him giving me sh– and making fun of me. MTV : Don’t let him do that! Franco : [ Laughs. ] I’ll give it back, trust me, but it takes its toll. It wears on you. MTV : Any chance we’ll see you in something for the Oscars, since you have a pretty good connection to the host? Franco : There’s been talks of us doing a digital short for that. We’ll see, though. Potentially another installment in the “Acting With James Franco.” We’ll see. Check out MTV News’ 11 for ’11 — actors, musicians and TV stars who are about to have a huge year — all week long. ‘The Hobbit’ Adds Andy Serkis, Eyes Ian McKellen

Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett already signed for long-awaited movie. By Eric Ditzian Andy Serkis in “The Lord of the Rings” Photo: New Line Cinema After years stuck in the development doldrums, “The Hobbit” has been picking up steam in recent weeks, with a slew of business deals and casting moves in advance of a planned February production start. On the heels of Elijah Wood’s recent deal to reprise his “Lord of the Rings” role as Frodo, Deadline New York reports that Andy Serkis has signed on to once again play Gollum in the two “Hobbit” films. What’s more, it’s looking like Ian McKellen is poised to reprise the part of Gandalf in what’s being called “a major role” in the new films. McKellen has been eyeing a return to Middle-earth for years. Back in the fall of 2009, he told MTV News that “Gandalf is a fantastic part and I long to do it” and that he prefers the character’s “Hobbit” version to his “LOTR” incarnation. “He was more humane somehow,” he added. “He was the guy who liked to hang out with the Hobbits and drink too much and smoke too much.” McKellen, Serkis and their cohorts, it seems, won’t be the only “LOTR” faces to pop up in “The Hobbit.” Cate Blanchett has already signed on to play Galadriel , Christopher Lee is in talks for Saruman, and Ian Holm is in talks for the elder Bilbo Baggins, whose younger version will be played by Martin Freeman. There’s no word yet if Orlando Bloom, who portrayed Legolas in “LOTR,” will return for the new project. “The Hobbit” is set to begin shooting in 3-D in New Zealand in February — a full seven years after the conclusion of the “LOTR” trilogy. Few thought it would take this long. “I think they’re intending to release it on Christmas 2011,” McKellen told us in late ’09, in what would turn out to be wishful thinking. “If they’re going to do that, they’re going to have to get moving on shooting it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hobbit.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Justin Bieber Causes Chaos With His New Nail Polish Collection

During the Christmas season, tween heartthrob Justin Bieber , released a nail polish collection with Nicole by OPI. There was speculation as to whether the idea would fly considering Bieber isn’t a nail polish wearer himself, but apparently the speculation was completely unfounded! Each song-inspired shade including Give Me the First Dance and One Less Lonely Girl sold out completely in the 3,000 Wal-Mart stores where it was sold. “The call center in Bentonville was flooded and flooded with calls with people wanting to know where they could get the nail polish. We just couldn’t keep up,” said Carmen Bauza, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s vice president and divisional merchandise manager of beauty and personal care. Seems like everything that boy touches turns to gold! What do you think of the new shades? Are they colors you yourself would where or do you think they are more ‘tween’ oriented? Lily Collins Feels The ‘Momentum’ Going Into 2011

With roles in ‘Abduction,’ ‘Priest’ and ‘City of Bones,’ the actress is one of MTV News’ 11 for ’11. By Eric Ditzian Lily Collins Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic There was a time, not long ago, when Lily Collins was known — if she was known at all — as the daughter of a famous rock star, appearing in the pages of fashion magazines and at haute-couture-resplendent debutante balls. Her story could have stayed on such a track, another pretty face with an illustrious pedigree, fame born simply of fame instead of accomplishment. But that’s not how Collins’ story will be told. Rather, it’ll begin something like this: The daughter of Genesis rocker Phil Collins, she won a small role as Sandra Bullock’s daughter in “The Blind Side,” a film that could have been reasonably expected to fade into obscurity had filmmakers not nailed a pitch-perfect tone of inspirational Hollywood drama rather than one of heartstring-tugging schmaltz. The Oscar-winning blockbuster lead to Collins’ scoring the female lead in “Abduction,” in which she plays the love interest of “Twilight” hunk Taylor Lautner. The thriller hits theaters in September, and its highly anticipated release among the Twi-set would already qualify Collins as an actress to watch in 2011. But she also stars in the supernatural horror flick, “Priest,” and just won the coveted role of Clary Fray in the upcoming adaptation of “City of Bones,” the first book in Cassandra Clare’s “Mortal Instruments” series. With all these projects in the pipeline, Collins was an obvious pick as one of MTV News’ 11 for ’11. The 21-year-old, who speaks with a poise and confidence that belie her years, called us up recently to chat about dealing with her newfound fame, working with Lautner and how she landed the “Mortal Instruments” gig. MTV : 2011 is shaping up to be a big year for you, coming off “The Blind Side,” with a bunch of prominent roles this year and some new projects coming down the line. Does 2011 feel like it’s going to be a momentous year? Lily Collins : It really does. Everything for me has happened so quickly. I finished shooting “The Blind Side” not this past June, but the June before, and all of sudden up to now, it seems like it’s gone from zero to 60 for me. I feel so fortunate to be able to say that, because a lot of my friends aren’t working, especially since fewer films are being made now and there’s more competition. Right before Christmas, I found out I was cast as Clary in “Mortal Instruments,” so it was the best early Christmas present ever. So to know that I’m starting off 2011 with that project to film, and also having two other ones coming out, it’s a position I never thought I’d see myself in. I feel the momentum. MTV : Has it been a difficult transition, with the increased attention on your private life as well as your professional life? Collins : I grew up with my dad going through all that. I grew up understanding the pros and cons of what you’re getting into and knowing what comes with your job. I like to keep my private life private, and then work is work. I feel so far I’ve had a really good balance with that. So far I’m having fun, which is why I’m doing this. I enjoy the craft. I hope that never goes away. I don’t like reading things that people say on the Internet because I know so much of it is not true. I don’t want to waste my time worrying about what other people are thinking. I just want to focus on being able to do cool projects. MTV : So let’s talk about some of these cool projects you have coming up. “Abduction,” first off. Have you seen any finished footage? Collins : I have seen footage. [Director] John Singleton would shoot scenes and was really open to showing us different takes and if we wanted to see different angles. We had instantaneous feedback. And I have seen cuts here and there of stuff. Nothing like a final edit, but I have seen bits and pieces. I’m extremely proud. This was my biggest role to date. Of course I was nervous. Especially because there was so much action and all those stunts and I’m trying not to fall when I’m going through rivers at 4:30 in the morning. There was so much going on, and every single emotion you can think of we had to go through in the span of 30 seconds because so much happens too quickly. From what I’ve seen, I’m thrilled. When it comes to the work, I’m excited to see what people think. When it comes to the private life, that’s when I don’t pay attention. MTV : Was there one action scene with you and Taylor that was particularly challenging? Collins : At one point we’re running around, trying to escape in the forest, and there’s a giant hill that we had to run down, and it felt like a 90-degree angle. John wanted me to fall at a planned moment, but it was so steep, and we were running at high speeds, I would just fall anyway. I had to practice falling, but look like I was falling on purpose. Also, there was a fight scene where I just get beaten up. It was in a very confined space and the choreography was very challenging because you can’t be knocking into the camera. “Priest” had a lot of action, and I had to do fight training as well. MTV : Suddenly you’ve become an action hero … Collins : I know! In “Priest,” I don’t even look like myself because I have bright red hair and I’m in the same outfit the whole movie, because I’m kidnapped, so I’m dirty the whole time. I was in the desert putting dirt in my hair to make sure I look distressed and downtrodden. But it was fun because I’m jumping off trains and setting people on fire and getting into knife fights. MTV : Let’s talk about “Mortal Instruments.” Collins : That is going to be a whole new world for me. When I found out I was cast, I found out that people were tweeting about me getting cast as their heroine. I know that I’m playing a character in a book that is very popular, but I forget that books have so many fans, that if they don’t agree with the casting, it could go terribly wrong. I was so grateful that all these people were tweeting like, “Oh, we’re so excited. We totally see her as Clary, and we can’t wait to see what she’ll do.” I don’t know what I would have done if people responded negatively. MTV : Tell me about the audition process. Collins : Actually, this was the first time I actually didn’t audition. They offered me the role. I had just done “Priest,” which is from Screen Gems and directed by Scott Stewart, and this project is being directed by Scott Stewart at Screen Gems. So the role I did in “Priest,” if the movie does well and goes to a sequel, there are many of that character’s traits that I can also find in Clary. I guess they felt passionate that they saw certain characteristics as well, and they felt confident and really believed in me. I’m in still in awe. When I got that call, I was like, “Wait, are you talking about an audition?” MTV : Is that the next thing you’re filming? Collins : Yeah, I’m supposed to start this in early April. There are other things we’re in talks for, but that’s my next big project. MTV : Of course, first you guys have to cast Jace Wayland? Do you have anyone in mind for the part? Collins : Jace is an interesting one. He’s incredibly charming. He’s savvy in that he knows he’s charming and he works that charm, and he knows he’s attractive and can work his way into any situation. But at the same time, he does have insecurities. A lot of actors may not want to show a side of themselves being insecure. That’s what Jace does, and I feel a lot of people can relate to him. A lot of guys do feel insecure, but don’t want to admit it. A lot of the fans has been tweeting that [they want] Alex Pettyfer . I don’t know the process. MTV : Do you think he’d be a good fit? Collins : Yeah! He’s also going to have a great 2011. The fans of a series like this have such a strong opinion on who they feel would be great as a character, and I feel that’s very backed up because they know the characters in and out. I trust a lot of the fans in their opinions. I don’t know if there are going to be auditions or anything. I’ve heard Logan Lerman thrown out for Simon. These are from fans, and I’m excited to see their points-of-view. I’ve also heard about actors I may never have heard of, because they’re more on the independent side. That brings a whole other thing, because an unknown doesn’t bring in a whole lot of background. You don’t want a new character like this to have people think, “Oh, they’ve done that already,” or, “I can only see them as this kind of character.” So I hear that and go, “Wow, maybe an unknown could bring more to this role.” Hey, I was an unknown not too long ago, and I was like, “Let me do it! I can prove it to you!” Check out MTV News’ 11 for ’11 — actors, musicians and TV stars who are about to have a huge year — all week long. Related Videos MTV News’ 11 for ’11
