Diplomats Talk Kanye West’s ‘Christmas In Harlem’

Dipset’s Jim Jones tells MTV News carol collabo with Chicago MC makes sense given the title: ‘If I was Kanye I would’ve called us too.’ By Hillary Crosley Kanye West Photo: Ben Hider/Getty Images On Thursday, Kanye West released the festive song “Christmas In Harlem” featuring CyHi The Prynce and Teyana Taylor with a local twist. Harlemites and Diplomat members Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Vado joined in on the carol along with Musiq and G.O.O.D. Music MCs Pusha T and Big Sean. (Taylor also hails from Uptown.) “I didn’t know nothing about it, I’m just getting hip to that right now but it’s simple though,” Jim Jones told MTV News when asked how the track came together. “Sh–, if I was Kanye I would’ve called us too. It don’t make sense if they from Chicago, they would’ve made ‘Christmas in Chicago’ then right?” The Dips began releasing Yuletide tracks like “Ballin’ on Christmas” in 2006 off their A Dipset X-Mas LP. As for collaborating with West on the Hit-Boy-produced holiday track, Jones said fans can thank Cam’ron. “Cam called me, sent me the beat, I did my part, sent it back to Cam and he took care of the rest of the business,” Jimmy said. And while the collaboration is a treat for rap fans’ digital Christmas stockings, it does bring up the most recent rift between Cam’ron and Kanye. In September, Cam’ron and Jones remixed West’s “Runaway” and Cam spit the following lyrics: “And Kanye, you a sucka n—a, dissed Dame so my attitude is f— the n—a/ Sucked off Jigga, how you gonna live with that?/ Took the beat, now come get it back.” “I couldn’t tell you what that was about but I know Cam and Don C are like best friends,” Jimmy said of the Dipset leader’s relationship with one of Kanye’s managers. “We’ve actually known Kanye and them for over 10 years from some of our earlier shows when we first got into the music industry so we have a great rapport with them more than anything else. “I don’t think people took what we did so serious more than it was [just the] art of the music that we do,” he continued. “I guess Cam had something on his mind but it wasn’t really a life-or-death situation. And I know Kanye’s a very smart person, he’s got a great spirit, so it’s great that he chose to look past anything that was going on. I appreciate it.” Related Artists Kanye West Jim Jones The Diplomats

Xmas Stress? Get A Christmas Tree Delivered By Bike

Photo A. Streeter. Real Christmas trees – the ones you go out and cut down yourself, are a growth industry, says SF Gate . That’s because young adults are flocking to u-cut tree lots, out for the experience and the family time that Christmas-tree cutting and trimming entails. I love the idea, but I’ve fought the Christmas tree for years, first trying to abolish the tradition altogether after learning the CO2 and chemical burdens of grwoing trees … Read the full story on TreeHugger

New Recycling Process Could Recycle 100% of Plastic Packaging

Photo via University of Warwick One of the most disappointing aspects of Christmas (besides the crazed consumerism) is the piles of plastic packaging left over after the morning commotion. In fact, Science Daily reports that each American consumes an average of 120 grams of plastic wrapping on Christmas gifts, most of which is not recyclable. But that might just change (the recycling part, not the wasteful plastic packaging) thanks to a new technique for processing practically any type of plastic. Now that is some Christmas wish come true… … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Train Enjoy ‘Intense’ MTV World Stage Performance

Band’s set, filmed in London, premieres Friday on Palladia at 9 p.m. ET. By James Montgomery Train’s Pat Monahan Photo: MTV News Thanks to the success of hits like “Meet Virginia,” “Drops of Jupiter” and — especially — “Hey Soul Sister,” Train are the kind of band that operate in only one way: globally. They are, after all, one of the most popular radio acts on the planet ( “Soul Sister” went to #1 in 16 different countries, was the most-downloaded song of 2010 in the U.S., and the year’s most-played song in, of all places, Australia), which is why they’re the perfect band to be showcased on MTV’s World Stage, a concert series that features the biggest acts on Earth. On Friday at 9 p.m. ET on Palladia, fans who weren’t lucky enough to score tickets to London’s Shepherds Bush Empire theater — where Train filmed their World Stage performance back in October — will finally be able to catch the band in all their globe-spanning glory. Though the idea of filming a show for the entire world seems like a no-brainer, the guys in Train were hesitant to sign on when first approached by MTV. After all, they’d done the whole “concert film” thing before and, as frontman Pat Monahan put it, the end result was usually less than satisfactory. For everyone involved. “We’ve recorded a lot of shows in the past, with cameras … and usually it’s been kind of a bummer, because it sets a weird vibe right off the bat, when there’s six cameras and people can’t see past [them],” he explained. “But this one was different. They set it up really nicely and all the fans that were in there were psyched to be a part of it, and we were psyched to be a part of it. … The people of London were amazing, and once they found out they were going to be part of a film, it was even more intense. It was a great night for us.” The show also gave Train an opportunity to unveil their brand-new, Coca-Cola-approved Christmas song, “Shake Up Christmas.” The London audience was the first anywhere to hear the tune, and even though it was new — and being played in October — the response was one Train won’t forget any time soon. And, luckily, the cameras were there to capture the moment. “[That was] the first time anyone heard it, at Shepherd’s Bush in London, and it was cool, because the end chorus is just ‘Ho Ho Ho,’ and so I just asked them to sing it once, and they sang it every single time,” Monahan smiled. “And that’s why it felt so big, because they just wanted to be a part of it. We feel honored to be able to go to the U.K. or Europe or anywhere in the world, and get people to care at all. That was the first time they heard it, and they acted like it had been on the radio for months.” “MTV World Stage: Train” premieres Friday, December 17, at 9 p.m. ET on Palladia. UN Peacekeepers Trying To Head Off Christmas Massacre In Congo (Over Blood Minerals For Consumer Goods)

The United Nations has ordered 900 peacekeepers to a remote region of Democratic Republic of Congo, where the LRA killed more than 1,000 adults and children around Christmas in 2008 and 2009 and kidnapped hundreds more, to head off feared Christmas attacks by Lord's Resistance Army fighters. ===== report ============== UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations has ordered 900 peacekeepers to a remote region of Democratic Republic of Congo, to head off feared Christmas attacks by Lord's Resistance Army fighters, a spokesman said Tuesday. UN forces will go to a region where the LRA killed more than 1,000 adults and children around Christmas in 2008 and 2009 and kidnapped hundreds more. The UN mission in DR Congo is also sending extra humanitarian supplies to the region, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters. A special operation against the LRA has been launched in the Dungu district of Upper Uele region and would carry on until mid-January because of fears of the “holiday season” attacks, Nesirky said. The announcement came after the UN Security Council called for greater international action against the LRA, which is led by Joseph Kony who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The LRA sprang out of a rebellion in Uganda in the 1980s but now terrorizes communities in Central African Republic, southern Sudan and DR Congo. The Security Council welcomed an African Union move to set up a joint task force to fight the LRA and deploy joint border patrols. “It calls for the countries of the region to enhance coordination and information sharing regarding the the threat posed by the LRA,” said a Security Council statement on efforts to bring peace to Central African Republic. Ugandan special forces currently lead the international hunt for Kony, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. In December 2008, LRA fighters killed 865 men, women and children in the northeastern DR Congo and in southern Sudan, and kidnapped hundreds of others. A year later 300 people were murdered between December 14 and 17, also in northeast DR Congo. The United States has promised to support a new effort to catch Kony and halt the conflict generated by the LRA, but in a report titled “Ghosts of Christmas Past,” 19 aid agencies said the Security Council should do more. The report said LRA attacks remote communities in Sudan, Central African Republic and DR Congo almost four times a week. “These communities await Christmas with fear,” added the groups, who include Oxfam, Christian Aid, Refugees International, World Vision and War Child UK, among others. The UN refugee agency said in October that the rebels had killed 2,000 people since December 2008, kidnapped more than 2,600 and displaced more than 400,000 in DR Congo, the Central African Republic and southern Sudan. “The acute suffering and mass population displacement the LRA has generated across international borders is undermining stability in an already fragile region, where southern Sudan is preparing to hold a landmark referendum on secession in early 2011,” the report said. The aid groups welcomed recent steps by the United States and the African Union. But it said kidnapped people had to be helped to return home and villages had to be protected. The aid groups called on the UN Security Council to set up an expert panel as “there is a chronic lack of information about the motivation, composition and location of the LRA.” The LRA began their rebellion in northern Uganda in the late 1980s, but have not carried out an attack there since 2006. Since south Sudanese-hosted peace talks broke down in 2008, the fighters have roamed the jungles of central Africa and been repeatedly blamed for the slaughter of defenseless civilians. The African Union has said the LRA should be called “terrorists” rather than rebels. ############# ARTICLE LINK ############# UN peacekeepers to head off Christmas massacre http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iduTBApHLCmGUF9clnqdrlk-L8TQ?… (AFP) – Dec 13, 2010 added by: twohawks
