GMA Host Amy Robach Apologizes For Using The Term “Colored People” During Segment About Zendaya Acting In “Spider-Man”

Amy Robach Apologizes For “Colored People” Slip Up On “Good Morning America” “Good Morning America” host Amy Robach apologized today after somehow mixing up the terms “colored people” and “people of color” while talking about Zendaya playing Mary Jane Watson in an upcoming version of “Spider-Man”. “This morning during a segment about Hollywood casting, I mistakenly said ‘colored people’ instead of ‘people of color,’” Robach said in a statement. “I sincerely apologize. It was a mistake and is not at all a reflection of how I feel or speak in my everyday life.” Do you believe her though? Watch the clip below to hear her original remarks: Kinda sounds like she was trying to ask an “affirmative action” type question in the first place. SMH. Continue reading

Race Matters: Black Women Face Interracial Dating Taboo While Dating Online But Black Men Don’t

This may be the last remaining taboo in our supposedly colorblind society . Black Women Face Interracial Dating Taboo When Online Via NY Post reports: A New York City woman — beautiful, educated, successful and single — accepted a challenge presented by an online dating service that aimed to fix her up with available men. “I’m not desperate to get married,’’ said Jacque Reid, who co-hosts the “New York Live” lifestyle show on WNBC-TV News Channel 4, serves as a correspondent for the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” on the radio, and is the editor in chief of SingleandLivingFab.com. “I’ve met some good men. I’ve met some bad men and dated very bad men,” laughed Reid, a fitness enthusiast and never-married Atlanta, Ga., native who lives in Manhattan with her pet Shih Tzus — a boy named Sugar-Shane and a girl named Zoe. “I’m happy being single,” said Reid, who declined to give her age. She said, “I’m excited about” the Web-based matchup service. “It will be fun — and I’ll get some dates.” But two days after we spoke last week, a WNBC spokeswoman informed me that Reid no longer planned to accept the dating service’s challenge because she was “busy.” A friend told me that she’d changed her mind about it. Why? The answer may be found in the dating service’s name: InterracialDatingCentral.com. Reid, who is African-American, had opened herself up to the possibility of going out with men who are not. Reid had talked about the challenge on the radio and publicly accepted the service’s offer. She agreed to be featured in a news release announcing that she would go on a series of blind dates with four New York-area bachelors of all races, including African-Americans. Then the pushback began. In this day and age, some people are vehemently against the idea of a woman of color going out with men of other backgrounds. And the opposition comes from within the black community. How can this be? “Black men date or marry interracially at more than double the level women do,” she said. “They are given a pass. They can date anyone they want to — black women, white women.” The purpose of the dating challenge, she said, was to expand a woman’s choices. Black women are up to 50 percent more likely than their male counterparts to graduate from high school, reports the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and The Schott Foundation for Public Education. About twice the number of black women attend college as black men, according to the National Coalition of Black Civic Participation. And the Pew Research Center determined that black men were more than six times as likely as white men to be serving time in prisons and jails in 2010. Meanwhile, said Karazin, the rate of out-of-wedlock births to black women is 72 to 80 percent — up to 100 percent in some communities. Some of the ills facing black men, particularly high incarceration rates for relatively minor crimes, are unfair to them. But Karazin does not believe that black women should be limited by race when choosing partners. She’s right. Skin color should not matter when it comes to love. Discuss….

Fox & Friends First Anchor Refers to UConn as "NAACP" Champions

OOPS! On Fox News’ Fox & Friends First this morning, co-host Heather Childers sent her congratulations to the Connecticut Huskies for defeating the Kentucky Wildcats last night and winning the “NAACP” championship and… wait… what?!? Yes, Childers accidentally referred to UConn as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People” champs, as opposed to the toast of the National Collegiate Athletic Association world. She quickly apologized on Twitter (“totally on me. I’m a huge sports fan. Was excited about #UCONN’s win, misspoke but immediately corrected it. Great tourney!”), but was unable to stop the clip from going viral. Watch the slip-up now: Heather Childers Refers to UConn as “NAACP” Champions

Race Matters: Exit Poll Shows That Blacks Are Increasingly Favorable Toward Gay Marriage, Are You???

Do tell… Polls Show That Blacks Are More In Favor Of Gay Marriage According to Christian Post Recent polls show increasing support for same-sex marriage among blacks. A national exit poll by Edison Research shows that black voters favored their state legalizing gay marriage, 51 to 41 percent. Pew polls have also showed an increase from 36 percent in 2011 to 44 percent last month supporting gay marriage. According to the exit poll conducted by Edison Research on behalf of the NEP, 51 percent of black voters said their states should legally recognize same-sex marriage, compared with 47 percent of whites who favored this idea. It’s a big shift considering that in 2011, the Pew Research Center found that only 36 percent of blacks favored legalizing gay marriage, compared with 49 percent of whites supporting it. A Pew survey found last month that long-standing racial differences in attitudes toward gay marriage were narrowing. Consistently over the past decade, blacks have been far less supportive of legalizing gay marriage than whites. But the latest survey found blacks divided more evenly on this issue than in the past, with 44 percent in favor and 39 percent opposed to allowing gay marriage. Among whites, 49 percent favored and 41 percent opposed same-sex marriage. Says the NAACP: The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the nation’s oldest African-American civil rights group, voted in May to support a resolution endorsing same-sex marriage at its board meeting in Miami, Fla. “The mission of the NAACP has always been to ensure political, social and economic equality of all people,” Roslyn M. Brock, chairman of the Board of Directors of the NAACP, said in a statement. “We have and will oppose efforts to codify discrimination into law.” Benjamin Todd Jealous, president and CEO of the NAACP, said in a statement, “Civil marriage is a civil right and a matter of civil law. The NAACP’s support for marriage equality is deeply rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution and equal protection of all people. The well-funded right wing organizations who are attempting to split our communities are no friend to civil rights, and they will not succeed.” Pow! Sounds like the Association is down to make sure that Michael and Matthew can get married and divorced like everyone else in the country. Do YOU support gay marriage? Why or why not? Race Matters: NAACP Protests Proposed Gun Offender Registry Law In Wealthiest African-American County In U.S.

NAACP Protests Proposed Gun Offender Registry Law In Wealthy African-American County A law that would require members of the community convicted of gun-related crimes to check in with police every six months is in the works in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The NAACP chapter of Prince George’s County, which is the wealthiest African-American majority county in the nation, says they are not havin it. The Prince George’s County’s chapter of the NAACP is hoping to stop County Executive Rushern L. Baker III (D) from signing a countywide gun offender registry program into law, claiming the law is unconstitutional. The registry program, passed June 5 by the County Council with a 9-0 vote, would establish a police-kept registry for those convicted of gun-related crimes who would have to check in with police every six months for three years in addition to providing information such as phone numbers and where they live and work. Legislation for the registry was introduced by County Councilwoman Karen R. Toles (D-Dist. 7) of Suitland and co-sponsored by the entire council to serve as “a deterrent to gun offenders” to reduce the amount of gun-related crimes and homicides in the county, Toles has said. Members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People met June 21 to discuss their opposition, saying the bill violates the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits governments from depriving a person’s life, liberty and property without first taking certain steps to ensure fairness. In addition, they are citing flaws in similar legislation in Baltimore for a gun-offender registry that is currently up for potential appeal after a city circuit court judge said April 6 that the legislation was unconstitutional and too vague. Race Matters: NYC Mayor Bloomberg Defends The NYPD’s Stop-And-Frisk Policy, Says It’s NOT Racial Profiling Aganist Blacks

Is the Stop-and-Frisk policy anything more than a racial profiling tool being used to criminalize minorities? A silent march by thousands of people in New York City protesting police “stop-and-frisk” tactics on Sunday was punctuated by an explosion of loud voices. “We’ve got to fight back, we can’t be silent!” a group of activists shouted as they passed the home of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, just off Fifth Avenue. Critics say the NYPD’s practice of stopping, questioning and searching people who police consider suspicious is illegal and humiliating to thousands of law-abiding blacks and Hispanics. Last year, the NYPD stopped more than 685,000 people, mostly black and Hispanic young men — up from about 97,000 a decade earlier, according to the New York Civil Liberties Union, which also was to join the march. About half of those stopped are frisked, and about 10 percent are arrested. “In most cities, when you ask who gets beaten up by the cops, the answer comes back: black people, people of color, and the gay community,” Benjamin Jealous, head of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said on MSNBC. Jealous said that “the notion that this make us safer really defies logic,” noting that other large cities have cut their crime rate without resorting to stop-and-frisk methods. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly defend the policy, saying the program keeps guns off New York streets and helps stop crime before it happens. Speaking at a Christian cultural center on Sunday in Brooklyn, Bloomberg said he is working with police to ensure that people are treated respectfully when they are stopped. “I cannot in good conscience walk away from work that I know will save the lives of so many of our brothers and sisters, and I will not,” the mayor said. Do you agree with the Stop-and-Frisk police? Or is it just another way for the police to harass people of color and other minority groups? Source

ACLU Files Lawsuit Against Arizona’s Racial Profiling Law

“A coalition of leading rights organizations will hold a national media call to announce and discuss the filing of its legal challenge to Arizona's unconstitutional racial profiling law. The coalition includes the American Civil Liberties Union; MALDEF; National Immigration Law Center (NILC); the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) and Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC), a member of the Asian American Center for Advancing Justice.” In my opinion the police have too much power in our country to enforce laws that unfairly target minorities and the poor. Giving them a license to “demand your papers” is not American. This is just a backlash against the influx of immigration that has been vilified by the right. We need to fight poverty, the real world enemy, not make people into separate racial categories. No matter how angry people who have already immigrated to America get, someone who needs to feed themselves or their family will listen to their poverty and hope – not your anger. ❤ http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10137/1058777-84.stm http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jXrin5h7Hn8OoVwIwyXerEzwHacA added by: Denica_Cassandra
