Lady Gaga To Launch Little Monsters Social Networking Site

Site for Gaga’s fans is invite-only at this point. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images Lady Gaga is already the queen of social media, with almost 19 million Twitter followers. So it just goes to reason that once she’s conquered that medium she would go on to create her own social networking site. Though it’s in invite-only beta testing mode right now, Gaga is prepping for the launch of a social network called Little Monsters that is built around her fan base. According to Mashable , an early look at the site shows some similarity to the popular Pinterest mobile app that allows users to drop pins on locations and things they like. It also uses elements of the Reddit site by allowing fans to rate cool content that they like. Little Monsters will focus on fans sharing and creating photos and videos and allowing users to hype content that they are into. The site is the first one launched by Backplane, a tech startup co-founded by Gaga’s manager, Troy Carter. “Backplane is about bringing together communities and Gaga’s community just so happens to be the community we’re using to learn about proper functionality,” said CEO Matt Michelsen about the company that will focus on building online communities. “We think we can really change the world.” Backplane is partially funded by Gaga and the company plans to launch Little Monsters out of beta at an undetermined time and spin-off more sites this year. It hopes to leverage Gaga’s massive online following to draw users to the new sites. To date, in addition to her massive Twitter base, Gaga has 330,000 followers on Google+, 47 million Facebook fans and more than one billion views on YouTube

President & Mrs. Obama Thank Troops, Encourage Spirit of Giving in Holiday Address

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama offered a special tribute to those who serve our nation and the families who support them unconditionally, while encouraging all Americans to give in their own way in his weekly address. “Giving of ourselves; service to others – that’s what this season is all about. For my family and millions of Americans, that’s what Christmas is all about,” he said. “It reminds us that part of what it means to love God is to love one another … to be our brother’s keeper and our sister’s keeper. But that belief is not just at the center of our Christian faith, it’s shared by Americans of all faiths and backgrounds.” “So whatever you believe, wherever you’re from, let’s remember the spirit of service that connects us all this season – as Americans. Each of us can do our part to serve our communities and our country, not just today, but every day.” Here’s Barack and Michelle’s address to the nation: Obama Christmas Address

Tyrese Isn’t Fazed By Delaware Radio Ban

‘A lot of us artists are afraid to speak on obvious stuff that’s going on in our ‘hoods … because of things like this,’ Tyrese tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Tyrese Photo: Jerry Markland/ Getty Images Tyrese isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and though his music is currently banned from 101.7 Kiss FM in Delaware, the R&B singer will not back down. During a September interview at the station, the singer and “Transformers” actor aggressively spoke out to keep liquor stores from opening in the proximity of schools. “People drink — it is what it is — but the personalities and energy that liquor stores attract, I think, need to be much further away from elementary schools,” Tyrese told MTV News when he walked the black carpet for the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards. The singer, who is a national spokesman for Communities in Schools, had a speaking engagement in a Delaware school when he noticed a liquor store directly across the street. Instead of promoting his new album, Open Invitation , during a scheduled radio interview later in the day, Tyrese got on his soapbox and chastised community leaders for allowing the liquor store so close to the school. “I transitioned into talking about that because it had just happened, and that’s when they kicked me off the air and banned my music,” Tyrese said. “Get them cats outta here, man, sellin’ alcohol right across from your kids’ school, homey,” Tyrese said during his radio interview. Kiss 101.7 owner Tony Quartarone told TMZ that it wasn’t the singer’s message that prompted the ban, but more how Tyrese spoke to the listeners. “Tyrese was not kicked off the air for pointing out that liquor stores should not be located near schools … I totally agree with that. But … he proceeded to downgrade my audience by calling them ‘homeys.’ ” Still, the “Sweet Lady” vocalist will not change his position. “I think a lot of us artists are afraid to speak on obvious stuff that’s going on in our ‘hoods and in our communities because of things like this,” he told MTV News. “For me, I don’t want them to play my music. I don’t care; my position won’t change. I didn’t even get on there to do it on purpose, like, ‘Let me start some sh–.’ I got on there to talk about the album, and because it was fresh on my mind, and I spoke on it.” Related Artists Tyrese

Tyra’s Color-Block Catastrophe At VH1′s “Do Something” Awards [PHOTOS]

More here:

VH1′s “Do Something” Awards went down last night in Hollywood, California. The non-profit organization honors people under the age of 25 who have given back to their communities and beyond, and though some of our favorite celeb ladies didn’t make cut in terms of age, they still showed face. Kerry Washington wore a sheer & sparkly, printed asymmetrical mini while Kim Kardashian wore a form-fitting, cream-colored floor length gown. But it was Tyra Banks’ outfit that got us talking: while we love the color-block trend, we’re not so sure she pulled it off as well as Janet Jackson. We just can’t put our figure on it as to why.

A “Lil Positivity” Justin Bieber Wants To Build Schools For Children Worldwide

Justin Bieber may be out of school and on the road, but he still understands the importance of education. The teen heartthrob has teamed up with Pencils of Promise (PoP) and posted a video (as first seen on Us magazine) to challenge his fans and society to help give back to education in a campaign called Schools4All. Bieber and nonprofit founder Adam Braun would like to see a slew of people make their own personal fundraising pages to raise money among their community so that Pencils of Promise can continue to build schools and educate others. “There are more than 75 million children without access to education, and together we can do something about it,” the website reads. “Through our new Schools4All campaign, we’re asking you to join the PoP movement that empowers lives around the world by building schools for children in need. It is by bringing together communities at home, that we can collectively impact communities abroad.” The campaign runs from April 15th through June 30th, and one lucky participant will get a personal visit from Bieber himself at the school of their choice.
