What a Dragon Tattoo Really Costs

Anyone who tells you that receiving a tattoo like the dragon design occupying a quarter of Rooney Mara’s back in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will not hurt is a liar. Nevertheless, he’s a competitively priced liar, according to a new survey of tattoo artists asked the simple question: “How much would it cost to buy a dragon tattoo?” Mike Ryan shopped around this week on the streets of New York, finding estimates ranging from $500 to $1,200 and three different replies to the other critical question in the process: “Will it hurt?” Ha! Of course it will hurt : I spoke to artist Daniel Cotte, whose estimate came in quite a bit higher than those of his competitors. “You see,” Cotte said as he pointed at the picture of Rooney Mara’s back, “there’s a tail on the dragon that snakes around and out of view.” That detail, he explained, makes the dragon tattoo much more expensive — and much more painful. He put the price of the dragon tattoo somewhere between $800 and $1,200, and he definitely recommended coming in for two separate sessions — adding up to four hours in all. Now you know. Find slightly more optimistic estimates at the link below. NOTE: “I AM A RAPIST PIG” tattoos remain free of charge.

Dancing with the Stars Recap: Her Name is Nicole

Dancing with the Stars kicked off its second week Monday night by shuffling the order and injecting the Foxtrot and Jive into the mix for the 11 pairings. Like last week , Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough led the pack, and is (right now) the odds-on favorite to win this spring barring one of two scenarios: Fans become accustomed to her terrific performances as the norm and consider her so much of a lock, they just don’t vote (see Sabrina Bryan). She has a train wreck performance like Kate Gosselin’s last night. The first scenario is more likely, and you can’t count out a number of other competitors, of course. But the name to beat thus far is definitely Nicole. Here’s a tiered breakdown of last night’s Dancing with the Star s scores, along with the dance they performed and their combined two-week totals … The judges were kind to Nicole, Erin, Pam and their respective partners. Early favorites Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough (Jive) – 53 (25, 28). The competition Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya (Jive) – 47 (23, 24). Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Foxtrot) – 44 (21, 23). Pamela Anderson & Damien Whitewood (Foxtrot) – 43 (21, 22). Hanging around Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower (Jive) – 40 (20, 20). Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel (Foxtrot) – 39 (18, 21). Shannen Doherty & Mark Ballas (Jive) – 38 (18, 20). Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke (Foxtrot) – 34 (18, 16). Hoping for a fan bailout Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani (Jive) – 31 (16, 15). Buzz Aldrin & Ashly Costa (Foxtrot) – 26 (14, 12). Likely not going to get it Aiden Turner & Edyta Sliwinska (Foxtrot) – 32 (15, 19). Yeah, it doesn’t look good for Aiden Turner. Kate Gosselin can at least count on voter support despite her terribleness, and Buzz Aldrin … is Buzz Aldrin. You don’t vote the man off. Aiden lacks skills and a devoted fan base. Gone tonight.

Armed Robbers Storm Poker Tournament on Live TV [Breaking]

Panic swept over Berlin’s Grand Hyatt today when a group of blasé burglars carrying Kalashnikov assault rifles stormed a European Poker Tour tournament and made off with $1.2 million, before a live television broadcast. Four robbers burst into the hotel while two stood guard by the entrance on Potsdamer Platz, a major public square, AFP reports . Apparently some of the footage made it on the air. Here, horrified gamblers run screaming from their table. They are so scared, they don’t even peek at their competitors’ cards. The five-day tournament had 1000 competitors and a jackpot of one million Euros. [ AFP ] [ AP ]

Casey James and Andrew Garcia Lead Semifinal Parade of Men

We’re glad we’re not an American Idol contestant this season. Partly because we have an atrocious voice and would be laughed out of the competition. But also because the judges seem more scatter-brained and confusing than ever: be original, they tell contestants, but not so original that you butcher a song. Be true to who you are, they add, but also mix it up and stand out. For example: If you didn’t like Tyler Grady’s 70s schtick, panel, why did you select him for the semifinals? With that complaint out of the way, we’ve ranked last night’s set of live performances from best to worst: Casey James : Yes, we’re suckers for the Bryan Adams single “Heaven.” But aside from his voice, we admired James for the classy way he handled the show’s focus on Kara’s fawning over him. Andrew Garcia : Stop bringing up his great rendition of “Straight Up” from an earlier round, judges, and focus on each performance. We loved his arrangement on “Sugar We’re Going Down.” Todrick Hall : We’re probably alone with this pick, but the guy took a major risk by re-working a Kelly Clarkson classic and he gets props for that. Lee DeWyze : We had no idea he had this in him. Solid work on “Chasing Cars” and the official male dark horse. John Park : Did he try to do much with a difficult song? Yes, but he wants to marry Shania Twain and the show could use someone with a sense of humor. Alex Lambert : The judges actually did call this one perfectly. He has potential, but just needs to get more comfortable on stage. Aaron Kelly : If he had waited a year or two to try out, could have been a front-runner. Decent performance of “Here Comes Goodbye.” Joe Munoz : We’re just glad he didn’t choose the popular Jason Mraz song everyone sings. Actually not bad, but a lack of stage presence and star power. Jermaine Sellers : Over-singing alert! The guy just tries too hard on stage and it doesn’t look natural. Michael Lynche : We’re huge fans of “Big Mike” as a person. Nice, sweet guy. But he simply lacks the vocal talent. Tyler Grady : We never liked his 1970s look. Way too much of a gimmick. Tim Urban : Actually worse than Lacey Brown the night before.
