Leah Messer, Daughter Ali Reveal "Medical Miracle": She’s Still Walking!

In the wake of all the drama, stress and heartbreak surrounding daughter Ali Simms’ tragic diagnosis, Leah Messer says the toddler is defying doctors’ predictions. The Teen Mom 2 star’s offspring isn’t just mobile, she’s nearly running these days, despite doctors saying she’d likely require a wheelchair soon, and for life. It’s possible she will indeed be bound to a wheelchair, but for the time being, she’s carrying on and making progress with no need of such assistance at all. In a recent interview, Leah and ex-husband Corey Simms, said they are going to remain positive despite the muscular dystrophy that has hampered her. “Ali is running!” gushed Leah. “She’s doing so much better than expected. We don’t know what the future holds, but this is proof that we should not give up hope.” If you watch Teen Mom 2 online , you know that Corey, 24, “refuses to accept” Ali’s condition, especially as the little girl seems to be doing so well. “Until the day she doesn’t walk, I’ll never think she won’t,” he stated, considering anything else defeatist and sounding more optimistic than in denial, He also said that he not only has hopes for a normal childhood for his daughter, but a normal adulthood; he wants to walk Ali down the aisle one day. Watch Teen Mom 2 Season 5 Episode 7 Online Will Corey get that chance? Our fingers are collectively crossed at THG. Either way, the couple deserves praise for how they are handling this. Simms is remarried, to Miranda Patterson. Leah Messer , 21, is now married to Jeremy Calvert. Yet the exes remain a united and dedicated front for the girls. Leah previously expressed that though the devastating disease has been very hard, she has no intention of making her daughter feel any different. “I try not to show any emotion in front of her,” Leah admitted. “So if I do get upset about it, it’s when she’s asleep.” Kudos, mom, for a job well done day in and day out.

R.I.P: Legendary Film Critic Roger Ebert Dead At Age 70 After Battle With Cancer

Sad news to report… Roger Ebert Passes Away Via Chicago Sun Times reports: For a film with a daring director, a talented cast, a captivating plot or, ideally, all three, there could be no better advocate than Roger Ebert, who passionately celebrated and promoted excellence in film while deflating the awful, the derivative, or the merely mediocre with an observant eye, a sharp wit and a depth of knowledge that delighted his millions of readers and viewers. “No good film is too long,” he once wrote, a sentiment he felt strongly enough about to have engraved on pens. “No bad movie is short enough.” Ebert, 70, who reviewed movies for the Chicago Sun-Times for 46 years and on TV for 31 years, and who was without question the nation’s most prominent and influential film critic, died Thursday in Chicago. He had been in poor health over the past decade, battling cancers of the thyroid and salivary gland. He lost part of his lower jaw in 2006, and with it the ability to speak or eat, a calamity that would have driven other men from the public eye. But Ebert refused to hide, instead forging what became a new chapter in his career, an extraordinary chronicle of his devastating illness that won him a new generation of admirers. “No point in denying it,” he wrote, analyzing his medical struggles with characteristic courage, candor and wit, a view that was never tinged with bitterness or self-pity. RIP Roger Ebert. Now you and Gene Siskel are back together reviewing films in the heavens. See you at the movies!

Facebook IPO: Stock Falters, Still Raises $16 Billion

Call it the most disappointing $16 billion raised in investment history. Facebook stock is off to a rocky start after its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), jumping more than 10 percent in the first few minutes of trading before sellers swept into the market and that gain evaporated. “The stock is trading right at the IPO price ,” one expert told the L.A. Times. “They didn’t want that in a million years. A traditional IPO is up 10% or 15%.” The stock most recently hovered at about $40, only $2 above what shares were priced at late Thursday. Shares touched $38 multiple times during trading. Investors also had to deal with a nearly three-hour delay for the stock to open. The Nasdaq kept the stock halted as it processed a crush of buy and sell orders. The inauspicious opening after the Facebook IPO suggests that retail investors paid close attention to reports of soft financials and big selling by insiders. Still, Facebook raised $16 billion in what will go down as the third-largest public offering in U.S. history and the biggest ever for a technology company. Could be worse, right? Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg rang the Nasdaq opening bell from company headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif. Eduardo Saverin , one of the company’s co-founders, made news this week by giving up U.S. citizenship as a means of limiting his tax liability.

Sean Penn Rips "The Whole F–king World" For Abandoning Haiti

Sean Penn isn’t a fan of us right now. Or you, or anyone else. On Friday at the Cannes Film Festival, the actor-activist slammed the media and public for abandoning Haiti after the devastating earthquake in 2010. “It’s not only celebrities who went for a day,” Penn told reporters of his perceived injustice. “It’s the whole f–king world. It’s all of you. The reason we have ‘Haiti fatigue’ is because there was never a commitment in the first place.” A vocal proponent of humanitarian aid, Penn also called upon President Barack Obama to meet with Haiti’s newly elected president Michel Joseph Martelly. “It’s time our elegant, formidable president stood side by side [with Martelly],” he said. The outspoken actor was part of a news conference with Petra Nemcova and director Paul Haggis, all of whom work with nonprofit organizations in Haiti. The trio joined forces for a benefit for the country at the famed cinema gathering. [Photo: WENN.com]
