NYU Student Arrested For Turning Dorm Into Arm Rifle Factory According to The NY Post An NYU psychology student turned his Manhattan dorm room into an air rifle factory and was arrested on illegal weapons possession charges Monday, law enforcement sources told the Post. Bernard Goal, 20, was busted after a startled maintenance crew spotted a pair of realistic looking rifles on his bed while he was out and alerted campus security. Public safety officers swept the Texas native’s room and found four more Airsoft weapons that closely resembled AK-47s and a black Colt carbine rifles, sources said. Goal allegedly assembled the weapons with parts he bought online and sold them for up to $500 each, sources said. NYPD cops arrested Goal at 2:30 p.m. Monday and hit him with six misdemeanor violations of a local law that prohibits the possession or sale of air rifles and replica firearms, according to a law enforcement source. The weapons fire pellets through compressed air and are routinely mistaken for actual firearms. They have a range of about 140 to 300 feet and can cause flesh wounds at a close range, sources said. “It’s very scary to know there were guns one floor below me. A planned massacre was thwarted today at the University of Central Florida where a student took his own life as police officials closed in on him. A 30-year-old man who was in the process of being kicked out of his dorm at Tower 1 on the UCF campus had written out a timeline and elaborate plan. He had outlined how to harm the greatest number of individuals during the planned attack, according to university Police Chief Richard Beary. He had assembled hundreds of rounds of ammunition and homemade bombs in what was clearly a plan to claim as many people’s lives as possible. Shortly after midnight, James Oliver Seevakumaran pulled the fire alarm at the Tower 1 hall, then went back into his apartment to get his weapons. While police were responding to the fire alarm call at the dorm, Seevakumaran’s roommate called 911 to say that he had pointed a gun at him. The roommate fled, ran to the bathroom and lock himself inside. Police believe that James Oliver Seevakumaran planned to go out into the hallway as students evacuated and fire the weapons and detonate bombs. Instead, police arrived at the suspect’s apartment in Tower 1 with the knowledge that there was a report of a man with a gun. Beary said that officers were armed. They freed the roommate from the bathroom and a surprising turn of events, found Seevakumaran dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. “What we think is his timeline got off, the rapid response of law enforcement maybe have changed his ability to think quickly on his feet,” Beary said. The roommate told police that Seevakumaran, whose family lives in Florida, had exhibited some anti-social behavior but he’d never seen him act iolently. He had been enrolled as a student at UCF from fall 2010 to fall 2012. He did not enroll in 2013, and the university was in the process of moving him out. A spokesman said UCF takes a “compassionate” position toward students that are no longer enrolled, instead of forcing them off campus immediately. Police said that Seevakumaran obtained the weapons at an Orlando area gun shop, and that he began amassing ammunition in early February. Classes resumed at the UCF after police removed the bombs and an assault weapon from a dorm. The campus was reopened around noon. A bomb squad from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department removed the explosive devices; students were evacuated from the residence hall in question. “University police responded immediately when we received a fire alarm call and a subsequent 911 call,” Beary said in a statement released by the school. “The safety of our students and our entire campus community is our top priority.”

On Wednesday (November 16), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided with a vote that British comedian Ricky Gervais will return to host the Golden Globes for the third time, according to Variety. Disagreement among the members of the HFPA and NBC, the network that broadcasts the television and film awards show, about whether the controversial host should return made headlines this week. NBC was Gervais’ most vocal proponent, but factions in the HFPA were uneasy about the “Office” creator after his no-holds-barred one-liners targeted some of Hollywood’s biggest names and he thanked God for being born an atheist. After the fallout from Gervais’ last turn as host of the Golden Globes , he told several sources that he no longer wished to host the show again . His feelings toward the job changed in recent months, when he became more vocal about wanting to return. He even went as far as suggesting that if he didn’t host, he would offer a live running commentary throughout the show. Once it was clear that talks of the comedian’s return were serious, Gervais came out to explain that the holdup was due to the HFPA’s indecision and that he had NBC’s full support. The Globes are not the only awards show with a hosting controversy. After Eddie Murphy stepped down as Oscars host , Gervais joked to Deadline that he would host both the Academy Awards and the Globes for a discounted price. Before he cracked the Billboard top 10 with his debut single “Cooler Than Me,” the Duke grad was slinging free mixtapes like rappers do. On Sunday, the raspy-voice singer is going to return to what he knows when he drops his Layover mixtape. Since his first album was 31 Minutes to Take Off and his spring 2012 follow-up will be titled Sky High, Mike figured The Layover would be the perfect title for an in-between project. “I think a lot of people don’t realize that I came up doing mixtapes,” Posner told Mixtape Daily. “My first mixtape was with [DJ Don] Cannon that I made in my dorm room when I was a student at Duke, and ‘Cooler Than Me’ was a song on that mixtape that I recorded in my dorm room.” So even with all his success, Mike still has love for the mixtape grind. “It is incredibly important for me to reach back to my roots, and kind of do what I came up doing again,” he said. Posner once again recruited Don Cannon to help him put the tape together, and this time out, he’s collaborating with Big Sean, Big K.R.I.T., Bun B and Twista too. “I really took it back to the basics with this tape,” he explained. “I brought Cannon back in, Big Sean’s on the tape, Big K.R.I.T.’s on the tape, and I’m doing the remixes of songs and kind of like hip-hop-ifying classic non-hip-hop songs.” One such song is Elton John’s 1972 classic “Rocket Man.” Posner threw new synths and pulsating drums under the classic melody. While he adds his own swag to Elton’s lyrics, Mike also enlisted Bun B to add a verse for a 2011 upgrade. That’s not all: On “Wonderfall,” the Detroit singer/producer redoes Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and adds Big K.R.I.T. to the mix. All in all, it’s a refreshing, genre-bending take on some classic music.
