Seized items included marijuana-laced cereal treats, brownies and pudding. Both women were arrested and face felony drug charges. Talk about lifting the Lord’s name on high. SMH.

According to NBC News reports , researchers announced the news Tuesday that Sudan had passed from “age-related complications,” saying he “stole the heart of many with his dignity and strength.” A statement from the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya said the 45-year-old rhino was euthanized on Monday after his condition “worsened significantly” and he was no longer able to stand. His muscles and bones had degenerated and his skin had extensive wounds, with a deep infection on his back right leg. We hope he didn’t suffer too much. At least he wasn’t hunted down by some evil colonizers for his horn though. Sudan was born in Sudan before being taken to a Czech zoo where he lived for some time before being transferred to Kenya in 2009 with the three other remaining fertile northern white rhinos at the time. They were placed under 24-hour armed guard and fed a special diet. “However, despite the fact that they were seen mating, there were no successful pregnancies,” the conservancy said. Sudan was part of an effort to help rescue the Northern Whites from extinction after years of being targeted by poachers. His daughter Najin, and her daughter, Fatu are the surviving females at Ol Pejeta. Researchers are now focused on using in vitro fertilization to keep the subspecies alive, using stored semen from other dead rhinos, eggs extracted from Najin and Fatu and surrogate Southern white female rhinos. “He was a great ambassador for his species and will be remembered for the work he did to raise awareness globally of the plight facing not only rhinos, but also the many thousands of other species facing extinction as a result of unsustainable human activity,” said the conservancy’s CEO, Richard Vigne. Pretty sad stuff right? There are still around 20,000 southern white rhinos in Africa, but a hundred years ago they were under threat of extinction, numbering less than 100. South African conservationist Ian Player played a huge role in increasing the number of the animals thanks to efforts he initiated in the mid 20th century. Before their numbers dwindled, northern white rhinos could be found in Chad, Sudan, Uganda, Congo and the Central African Republic but the conflicts across the region also posed a significant danger for the animals as well. Southern white rhinos and black rhinos continue to be hunted by poachers who sell their horns on the black market. In 2016 it was estimated that rhino horn sold for up to 60,000 USD per kilogram — more than gold or cocaine!!!

Lone Juror Refuses To Convict White Cop That Killed Walter Scott Its starting to look like there may be no justice for Walter Scott , the unarmed black man gunned down by a white South Carolina cop. The jury remained deadlocked throughout Friday after all but one juror decided on a verdict for the officer Michael Slager, who shot a fleeing Scott in the back after a routine traffic stop and it was captured in video. In the recording, Scott can be seen running with some distance between himself and Slager, when Slager simply stopped, raised his gun, and fired five shots into Scott’s back. “I still cannot without a reasonable doubt convict the defendant,” the conflicted juror eventually wrote, in a letter delivered to Judge Newman. “I cannot and will not change my mind,” he wrote. The message would provoke Slager’s defense to request that the judge rules the case a mistrial, but instead, he allotted for extra time and encouraged the panel to reach a verdict. Slager faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted, the judge has also allowed for the jury to consider voluntary manslaughter should they fail to agree on the more serious charge.
Earthquake Rips Through Italy, Killing At Least 73 People Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of central Italy today after a massive earthquake caused major damage across several towns and the death toll continues to rise. According to NY Daily News reports : At least 73 people were killed early Wednesday when a 6.2-magnitude earthquake rippled through central Italy, waking residents as it rumbled to Rome. Entire blocks of Amatrice were destroyed after the first earthquake struck around 3:30 a.m. local time in the mountainous provinces of Umbria and Perugia. Powerful aftershocks followed. “The town isn’t here anymore,” Amatrice Mayor Sergio Pirozzi told state-run RAI radio. The death toll rose at daybreak when emergency crews rushed to find survivors in the hard-hit towns of Amatrice, Pescara del Tronto and Accumoli, digging into leveled buildings with shovels, bulldozers and their bare hands. Landslides tore through Pescara del Tronto and Arquata del Tronto, quiet villages separated by only two miles built into the lush hillsides of Marche. At least five people — including a family of four — died when a building in the small town of Accumoli collapsed. “Now that daylight has come, we see that the situation is even more dreadful than we feared, with buildings collapsed, people trapped under the rubble and no sound of life,” Accumoli Mayor Stefano Petrucci told Reuters. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded the first earthquake at 6.1-magnitude while the United States Geological Service recorded 6.2-magnitude. Search and rescue crews navigated through debris-clogged roads to reach razed buildings in Amatrice, where Pirozzi said he could hear “voices under the rubble.” The earthquake knocked down power for more than 2,700 residents in the town and brought stone buildings tumbling to the ground near the city’s center. As news of the devastation reached the Vatican, Pope Francis skipped a catechism lesson and led pilgrims at St. Peter’s Square in prayer for victims. The USGS measured the first aftershock as a 4.6-magnitude near Amatrice and at least four more were recorded near Maltignano and Norcia ranging from 4.0 to 5.5. The Italian earthquake institute documented at least 60 aftershocks in the four hours following the initial quake. Easter Egg Hunt Turns Into Rampage As Greedy Adults Push Children Down For Eggs Hundreds of adults lost their sh-t at the Pez headquarters in Orange, Connecticut yesterday at their Easter egg hunt. Organizers say the event was supposed to go off in 3 stages. Children were priority when it came to collecting the 9,000 Easter Eggs planted. There were three fields of eggs, and a scheduled time for each area to open to different age groups, but according to WFSB News, before the first field’s ribbon was cut, hundred of parents already stormed the area and even went off into the closed fields to get a head start over the children. The worst thing was that parents were seen shoving children and taking eggs out of their baskets. The Daily Mail is reporting that one parents said her 4 year-old left the scene bloody. SMH, is it really that serious over some Easter eggs??? Pez had this to say about the disappointing turn out: “We made efforts to get everyone something before they left and passed out tons of candy and coupons and the front entry and tried to make the best of an unfortunate situation. Due to the actions of a few, the good intent quickly turned into a mess. I would like to sincerely apologize to each of our guests, this was not something created to frustrate or make people angry. We only wanted to do good for the local community.”

Catholic Priests Accused Of Child Sex Abuse Allowed To Relocate To South America If you’re a Catholic priest who’s been accused and even convicted of sexually abusing children, don’t fret. The Catholic Church will let you relocate to South America so you can continue molesting more children who are too poor to be credible or speak out. Just a few day before Pope Francis’ historic trip to the States, and after he sent out a letter ordering bishops to follow a “zero tolerance policy” on child abuse, comes news pervy priests aren’t actually being dealt with. Via USA Today The Catholic Church has allowed priests accused of sexually abusing children in the United States and Europe to relocate to poor parishes in South America, a yearlong GlobalPost investigation has found. Reporters confronted five accused priests in as many countries: Paraguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil and Peru. One priest who relocated to a poor parish in Peru admitted on camera to molesting a 13-year-old boy while working in the Jackson, Miss., diocese. Another is currently under investigation in Brazil after allegations arose that he abused disadvantaged children living in an orphanage he founded there. All five were able to continue working as priests, despite criminal investigations or cash payouts to alleged victims.
