Boy, 12, Charged With Armed Robbery in Pair of Washington Holdups

A 12-year-old Washington State boy who allegedly robbed a barista coffee stand last week and a store the week before at gunpoint has been arrested. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery. Cops say a surveillance video helped them identify one 12-year-old, who is accused of using a gun to hold up a convenience store and coffee stand. 12-Year Commits Armed Robbery, Rides Away on Bike The child brandished a gun at the barista and demanded money, according to Everett, Wash., police, after he had ordered a beverage from the stand. The barista pointed to her tip jar, which the boy emptied into his backpack, before riding away with his drink in one hand and his weapon in the other. Using images taken from video surveillance at the espresso stand, police said they were able to identify the young robber as a 12-year-old Everett boy. The boy has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery – that holdup and an August 28 armed robbery of an Everett convenience store. In that case, police say, he walked into Peck’s Drive Market, pointed a black revolver at the clerk and demanded all the money from the cash register. The clerk complied, and the boy left, police said. According to officials, the boy admitted to the two robberies after his arrest, saying he borrowed the gun from a 16-year-old boy he new from church. After the robberies, the 12-year-old returned the gun to the 16-year-old along with a portion of the money he’d stolen. That boy has also been arrested.

Quote Of The Day: Gay Actor Rupert Everett Says He Can’t Think Of Anything Worse Than Having Two Gay Parents!!!

Yay or Nay to gay parenting? British actor Rupert Everett is being criticized after being outspoken about his opposition to the practice of gay folk raising kids… The 53-year-old told the Sunday Times Magazine that his mother Sara had met his boyfriend but “still wishes I had a wife and kids.” “She thinks children need a father and a mother and I agree with her,” he said. “I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads. “Some people might not agree with that. Fine! That’s just my opinion. “I’m not speaking on behalf of the gay community. In fact, I don’t feel like I’m part of any ‘community’. “The only community I belong to is humanity and we’ve got too many children on the planet, so it’s good not to have more.” Campaigners claimed his remarks were reminiscent of those who oppose same-sex marriages. Ben Summerskill, chief executive of the campaign group Stonewall, said: “Rupert should get out a little bit more to see the facts for himself. “There is absolutely no evidence that the kids of gay parents suffer in the way they are being brought up or in how they develop.” Everett also told how his family’s military background, which included his father serving as an Army Major, meant “some things were simply not talked about”. His comments were part of a feature in which his mother was interviewed as well. Mrs Everett, 77, told how she knew her son was gay from when he turned 18, and described her desire for him to have children. “In the past, I have said that I wish Rupert was straight and, I probably still feel that,” she said. “I’d like him to have a pretty wife. “I’d like him to have children. He’s so good with children. He’d make a wonderful father. “But I also think a child needs a mummy and a daddy. I’ve told him that and he takes it very well. He doesn’t get angry with me. He just smiles.” Their comments were likely to cause rancour with gay couples with children such as Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish, who have a one-year-old son, Zachary. It is not the first time Everett has attracted controversy over interviews. In 2008, he apologized after calling soldiers “wimps” in The Sunday Telegraph. Publicising his film The Victorian Sex Explorer in which he played Sir Richard Burton, he said: “In Burton’s day they were itching to get into the fray. Now it is the opposite. They are always whining about the dangers of being killed. Oh my God, they are such wimps now!” He has also previously spoken of his treatment after making his sexuality public, urging actors not to come out for fear of losing work. In 2009, he said his admission had damaged his career and his work had been limited since the revelation. Sounds like this guy is still living out his childhood issues. We’re gonna take a cue from “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “say a lil prayer” for his azz! Do you agree with Rupert or is he just on that bullshizz again? Source FameFlynetPics/WENN

Washington Lawmakers Snuff Out Marijuana Legalization Bill

By Steve Elliott in Toke of the Town If marijuana is going to be legalized in Washington this year, it will have to be the voters who do it — because the Legislature won’t. The House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee is expected to vote down bills dealing with legalization and decriminalization of marijuana, reports Jerry Cornfield at the Everett Herald Net . Rep. Chris Hurst, chairman of the public safety panel, told Cornfield there aren’t enough votes to move either bill out of committee. While amendments to either bill or both could be proposed Wednesday, Hurst said he doesn’t believe enough minds will change to alter the outcome. With five Democrats and three Republicans on the committee — and two of the Democrats (Hurst and Rep. Al O’Brien, D-Mountalke Terrace) being former cops, with both saying they will oppose the bills — neither will likely make it out of committee. Hurst said votes could have been taken last week at the end of a two-hour hearing on the legislation. Sponsors of the bills asked for time to consider possible changes, in response to criticisms raised in the hearing. Hurst claims he’s pushing to get the matter resolved (as in, hurry up and get these bills killed) to give backers of a voter initiative for marijuana legalization “a clear field” on which to wage their battle. Many observers of the Washington state political scene believe that blame for the marijuana bills are once again dying in the Legislature due may be rightly placed on Speaker of the House Frank Chopp . According to multiple, well-placed sources (both inside the Legislature and those observing), Chopp, through a lack of political will and leadership, is the legislator most responsible for the death of marijuana decrim in the last session as well. A reliable inside source, in a position to know, tells Toke of the Town Chopp doesn’t want to force a “controversial” marijuana decrim vote by the entire Legislature, because he doesn’t want to force fellow Democrats (in the majority) to vote on pot any time before the 2010 elections. Chopp’s leadership style, or lack thereof, has been a growing source of controversy within progressive Democrats for some time now. Over and over, you see Chopp described as “the most powerful politician in the state,” but you’d never guess it from his unwillingness to go out on a limb , to take a stand, to have a backbone. A Washington State Senate bill decriminalizing marijuana is still alive, though no hearings on it have been scheduled as of Tuesday morning.
