Source: Unknown / Getty A typical experience with gaslighting may go something like this: You present an issue you are having to a partner, and they react by saying “you’re too sensitive!” or “you’re crazy.” Gaslighters deflect any responsibility away from your legit feelings and instead pin their behavior on you. While the example highlighted above is a light example, its roots can definitely get deeper and more insidious. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). According to Psychology Today, “The term gaslighting originated from the 1944 film Gaslight , in which a husband systematically tormented his wife by convincing her that she’s insane, thereby robbing her objectivity and self-worth .” Sound familiar? You’re not alone. A lot of women are unknowing participants in a relationship where their significant other is chronic gaslighter and they don’t even know it. Most gaslights are liars or spin masters–they turn any narrative on its head in order to take the heat off themselves and put it on you. By definition, “the gaslighter takes the focus off of his or her significant weaknesses, flaws, and inadequacies, which the gaslighter is deeply afraid of exposing. Through constant lying and exaggerations, the gaslighter keeps his victims on the defensive and maintains social and psychological leverage.” Repeated exposure to this kind of behavior can leave you stifled, unable to express your feelings out of fear your partner will attack you emotionally. This psychological gagging is how the gaslighter stays empowered. The aggressor may even become hostile when confronted about their behaviors, thus scaring their partner into silence. On par with other emotional abusers, gaslights may begin to isolate their victims from their friends and loved ones, hoping to keep them far away from the truth. “By deploying demagoguery tactics such as “us versus them,” “divide and conquer,” “isolate and control,” “enemies are everywhere,” and “I’m your only hope,” the gaslighter places the gaslightee in a psychological straight jacket, and further establishes an authoritarian relationship,” Psychology Today explains. In an Instagram post, Williamson announced her departure while naming those who carried out the alleged acts. “I will not be returning for Season 2 of The Rookie,” Williamson wrote in the caption for the post. “I owe it to you my amazing fans to share the Truth. Throughout the filming of the pilot, I experienced Racial Discrimination/Racially Charged inappropriate comments from the hair department and bullying from Executive Producers.” She added, “During the Season, it continued along with Sexual Harassment from a recurring guest star, Demetrius Grosse, and the racist commentary & bullying from the Hair Dept. Head, Sally Ciganovich escalated into Sexual Assault at our Wrap party. The Sexual Harassment though reported directly to the Showrunner/EP remained undocumented and was not reported to HR as promised. Ciganovich was fired ONLY after the sexual assault and NOT for an entire year of outward racism/racially charged language and bullying behavior in and out of the Hair and Makeup trailer. HR protocol was never adhered to following the above reports given by me to my Showrunner/EP and an investigation was never issued for any of my claims.” In the following post, Williamson thanked her fans and supporters after making her announcement. “I am so beyond overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, kind words, scriptures, strength filled quotes and devout support that has come my way. One Instagram post is just like those 2 fish and 5 loaves of Bread,” Willamson wrote. “The rippling effect it has had in just a few hours shows how much this world is aching with victims of racism, discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual abuse all of it. The only time I was asked to participate in an investigation was after a meeting I called in June following our Season 2 announcement. This meeting included the Showrunner and two other producers as well as my agent and SAG-AFTRA Union Rep. It was clear to all present in the meeting that the Showrunner had not shared my reports with the any of the producers. After my initial report of sexual harassment, I was assured that Grosse would be fired. I was also asked to film with him the very next day as a courtesy to the script, even though we had not begun filming the episode yet. Grosse reappeared on our call sheet at the end of the season, I was even written in scenes with him. I asked the Showrunner about this and he admitted to me that the Grosse had not been fired nor had he gotten HR involved. I was asked to return this season, and promised that “everything was handled.” The investigation hadn’t even begun and Season 2 had already started filming. I turned it down and I walked. Afton Williamson has had enough. The actress will be leaving ABC’s The Rookie , amid claims that she faced racial discrimination and sexual harassment while working on the show. Afton made the announcement yesterday while putting her executive producers on blast in a lengthy Instagram post. “I will not be returning for Season 2 of The Rookie,” Afton’s post begins. Afton, as Officer Talia Bishop, co-starred alongside Nathan Fillion throughout Season 1 of the police drama. She claims her mistreatment began as early as the original pilot. “Throughout the filming of the pilot,” Afton writes, “I experienced Racial Discrimination/Racially Charged inappropriate comments from the hair department and bullying from Executive Producers.” She says the bullying continued throughout the season, along with “Sexual Harassment from a recurring guest star.” Afton made the legally shrewd decision not to be specific about the identity of her aggressors. She also was not specific about the actions or language used against her, but obviously what happened is not okay. Working alongside great actors on a major network television show should have been a great gig. But no one at any job should have to put up with racist remarks or sexual harassment. There are supposed to be systems in place to prevent and correct this kind of behavior. In the corporate environment, this usually means taking your problems to the human resources department. But Afton claims that though she reported the harassment to showrunner Alexi Hawley, he never even passed her complaints along. “The Sexual Harassment though reported to the Showrunner/EP remained undocumented,” Afton says. She adds that the behavior “was not reported to HR as promised.” Because of his inaction, Afton’s harassment continued throughout the first season. Things reached their breaking point for Afton when the situation “escalated into Sexual Assault at our wrap party.” Now, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Afton’s claims are finally being investigated by Entertainment One, the studio on production of The Rookie . At this point, it isn’t clear whether the studio began the investigation before or after Afton’s decision to leave the show. Either way, it may be too little, too late to clean up this mess. For Afton, as well as the series, the damage is done. It seems like both Entertainment One and ABC are mostly focused on damage control right now. They both want you to know that even though they let this happen and did nothing until a woman had to leave her job, that they’re taking this “very seriously.” “We take claims of this nature very seriously,” said a statement released by Entertainment One. The statement continues, “We have initiated an independent investigation which is ongoing, and as such, it would not be appropriate to comment at this time.” ABC released a similar statement, saying “The safety of working environments is a top priority for us, and we take this matter very seriously.” Just like Entertainment One, ABC is not quite ready to draw any conclusions or accept responsibility. The story is definitely still developing, but we hope both studios actually follow through and do right by Afton. We may even learn more today, once ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke meets with reporters at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. TV characters keeping secrets is not new. This much is obvious. They help advance the narrative, but some characters are a little bit darker. That may be a cause for concern, but with secrets even darker, it makes for some great TV. Have a look at the 13 characters we've rounded up who have even darker secrets. 1. Laurel Castillo – How to Get Away with Murder Laurel first appeared as one of the most delightful characters on all of TV, but as How to Get Away Murder has progressed, the darkness inside her has intensified. She started lying to her friends and disappeared the moment the truth about just how effed up her family really is came to light. 2. Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke – Revenge Amanda Clarke posed as Emily Thorne in the Hamptons for four seasons on Revenge. Her mission was clear: To take down every single person who caused problems for her family. She had a lot of secrets and was willing to get her hands dirty to pull off the ultimate revenge plan. 3. Lucious Lyon – Empire Lucious is always scheming. He lies to get his point across and hides a lot from his family. He’s the worst. 4. Georgina Sparks – Gossip Girl Georgina was Gossip Girl for a short spell, but she made a big mistake. Having as many secrets as she does and spilling the tea about everyone else caught up with her in the end. 5. Blake Carrington – Dynasty This is the man who swindled his ex-wife of her livelihood. He wouldn’t give a damn about hurting one of his offspring in the name of increasing his power. It’s sad. It makes sense then that he has a lot of skeletons in his closet. 6. Sabrina Spellman – Chilling Adventures of Sabrina On the surface, Sabrina may seem like the girl next door. In reality, she’s a teenage witch and worships the Dark Lord. Despite trying to stay on the side of good, she’s just a thread away from being pulled on the path of darkness. View Slideshow

DailyMail.com reports that newly single Wendy’s “softening her position” towards her estranged husband Kevin Hunter. The website reports that Wendy’s changed her mind about dissolving their production company, publishing house and charitable foundation and she and Kevin are willing to continue to work together. Why? Well, because Wendy allegedly wants to “preserve her legacy” and she also (allegedly) wants to stop her ex from pursuing alimony. Source: Pacific Press / Getty DailyMail.com reports that the pair are allegedly close to a settlement agreement. ‘Wendy and Kevin’s marriage might be over but they still have love for one another and she realizes that when it comes to business they had a great partnership, there was definitely magic there,’ a source close to the couple told DailyMail.com. ‘Since he left the business there’s been a lot of infighting and back-biting behind the scenes, that’s the kind of stuff Kevin kept a handle on. ‘Of course Wendy was furious with Kevin over his affair, she felt he had publicly humiliated her and she wanted to come out fighting, but she’s since softened her view of him and wants an amicable divorce. Things are apparently going well for Kevin despite him allegedly welcoming a love child with Sharina Hudson. As we previously reported while other media reported that Hunter was fired from his position as an executive producer on “The Wendy Williams” show, a source with knowledge of the situation told BOSSIP it’s more of a mutual parting and he’ll be walking away with an eight-figure settlement. Our source says he’s receiving $10 million to go away quietly from the program. What do YOU think about Wendy allegedly working with Kevin Hunter??? Source: Macguyver/WENN.com / WENN Draymond Green Reportedly Signs A 4-Year Deal With Golden State It looks like Golden State is focused on keeping their core players together. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Draymond Green and the Warriors have agreed to a four-year, $100 million maximum contract extension. With free agency looming next summer, three-time All-Star Draymond Green has agreed to a four-year, $100M maximum contract extension with Golden State, agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports tells ESPN. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) August 3, 2019 Prior to the big news, Green was set to hit the free agency market next summer–but if that were to happen, he would be highly sought after. The three-time All-Star is considered to be the anchor that kept the Warriors steady during their five-year finals run. So, to prevent losing such a pivotal piece of their franchise, the Warriors decided to extend Draymond the biggest offer that they could. Just last month, the Warriors and Klay Thompson agreed to a five-year, $190 million contract during this summer’s free agency. Even though Green received the most money he could at this point in his career, if he had waited until free agency, he would’ve been able to seek out a bigger contract from the Warriors or another franchise. The choice he made–to not even consider another option–proves that star players like Steph Curry, Klay, and Draymond are looking to continue building something special as a unit. Congrats to Draymond on the big bag!

Source: Nathan Pearcy / @npearcypics Nafisah Carter’s first inspiration to become an entrepreneur was her mother. But it wasn’t until college that she realized she had a passion for doing hair. Friends would line up outside her dorm room to get their hair done, which is how she made extra money. After graduating college, Nafisah went to hair school. “When I started beauty school, I was just interested in hair,” explains the North Carolina native. “I went to Dudley, and Dudley would come in to talk to us about the careers. Then I realized people work with celebrities and travel. He told us about so many different careers in hair and that’s when I realized I want to work with celebrities. I thought it was cool.” Nafisah was exposed early on to entrepreneurship watching her mother travel state to state for different trade shows. “I saw her work hard,” says Nafisah. “I liked the traveling. She made her own schedule.” Nafisah’s dream of becoming a celebrity stylist eventually came true. “I recently worked with Michelle Williams, Erica Mena, Misty Copeland” to name a few. Nafisah decide to move to New York where she began working at the renown Rita Hazan Salon. “When I worked in New York that’s when I learned everything I learned about working with celebrities,” she explained. “I helped with them in the salon. I was mesmerized when Jennifer Lopez came to get her hair done.” After launching her own beauty boutique, she ventured into the hair extensions. The international celebrity stylist says she decided to start her own hair line when she got frustrated working on low quality extensions one day. ” “A lot of my clients would come and their hair was bad. It would tangle, it would shed, it would melt on the flat iron. I wanted a good product for my clients because I knew I was doing a good service. A good service with good quality hair so that way they can have a long-lasting hairstyle. I did a lot of research. It took a long time because I ordered hair, I did a lot of testing.” After finding a product she approved of, Nafisah launched Pyara Hair. The soft, natural and luminous bundles are scented, packaged and ready to be installed with a glamorous lifestyle in mind. Each bundle is tangle free, shed free, and chemical free, and color friendly. The Bombshell Beauty Collection includes Straight, Curly Kinky, and Wave textures that and can last up to 3 years. With hair standards techniques constantly changing, Nafisah is consistently elevating her craft taking classes to stay on top of the latest hair trends. “I stay on social media, different shows and practice on my friends and family.” But the beauty mogul covets a classic look over following the trend. “People tend to go with the trends, and I tend to stay away. That is what keeps my clients in my chair.” Nafisah plans on expanding her business with a product line for weave care. Follow her on social media and check out PyaraHair.com . There were tears and there were tantrums. There was rampant sexism and rampant sex… in a windmill . There were 30 suitors and then there were three and then, heading into Tuesday night’s The Bachelorette finale, there were two. But who was the final one left standing? Was it Tyler? Was it Jed? Was it, in the very end, neither of these aspiring husbands? Let’s get to the recap, shall we?!? “I am conflicted in my heart,” Hannah said when she woke up in Greece to kick off the finale, shocking viewerd who figured this would be an easy choice for her and adding: “I was hopeful that I would have clarity but today… I don’t know. I don’t want to not be 100 percent sure and then make the wrong decision.” Just how torn was the Alabama native? On her way to the proposal location, Hannah asked that the driver of her car pull over. She then got out of the vehicle, started walking away — and tripped! From her spot on the ground, she examined her elbow and told a producer: “I really can’t do this.” Still, she got up, dusted herself off and proceeded. And then entered Tyler, the first man to approach Hannah with a Neil Lane engagement ring. The contractor thought back the moment he fell in love with Hannah and gave her props for helping him transform into the man he wants to be. The man he was previously unsure he could be. But Hannah cut Tyelr off before he could propose.’ “I am so lucky to be loved by you and to feel that,” she began. “You have supported me, you have been so sweet and strong for me and done everything that I’ve asked and more, and loved me so much. And my life with you would be amazing. And when I told you I was falling in love with you, I mean it.” And then she dropped the heartbreaking bombshell: ” But I love someone else. I’m so sorry .” Tyler was hurt, but also classy. “That’s going to hurt but I’m still going to be your biggest fan rooting for you,” he told Hannah. “I wish you and Jed nothing but success. I really mean that.” Did Hannah find success with the supposed man of her dreams? Jed exited his car and walked up to his alleged soulmate with a guitar, telling the series lead: “Though the other side is kind of unsure, right here is for sure and I know that I love you. And talking is hard sometimes for me so …” Yes, he then broke into song, strumming and singing: We always knew it’s me and you. “I’ve been praying for this moment for a long time,” Hannah told Jed in response. “I’ve been praying for you. You’ve supported me, you’ve loved me, you’ve challenged me, you’ve moved me and it’s made me love you so, so much. And I am in complete love with you.” Cue the proposal! “I don’t want to go another day of my life without you being all mine,” Jed said as he took a knee. “Hannah, will you marry me?” YES , Hannah replied. “She’s gonna be a Wyatt!” Jed cheered to the cameras. Is she really, though? We learned after this opening hour that the couple’s honeymoon phase lasted two days. “The second night after we got engaged, Jed tells me that he had been hanging out with this girl before he left to come on the show,” Hannah revealed on the finale. “I was like, ‘When was this?’ And I remember him saying a week before the show. And I was like, ‘Okay, so you broke it off?’ He said yes, told me it was nothing. It was hard to hear, but I tried to let it go.” Wyatt, of course, has been at the center of cheating allegations for weeks now. Back in Los Angeles, Hannah and Jed sat down to discuss the allegations by Haley Stevens , in which she said that she and Jed were in a serious relationship while he was on The Bachelorette. When pushed by Hannah, Wyatt said he had slept with Haley the night before he left for this ABC franchise. He also said they spent a weekend together in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, after which she met Jed’s parents. Then, in January, Haley threw Jed a surprise birthday party… and her parents gifted them a trip to The Bahamas. Right before the trip, Jed learned he had been cast on The Bachelorette and, yes, he admitted to Hannah on the finale that he told Stevens he would go on the show just to promote his music. He also told Stevens that he loved her during this vacation to The Bahamas. Jed then actually added that arriving in Los Angeles for The Bachelorette effectively ended his relationship with Stevens — but he NEVER TOLD HER THAT. “ To me, I ended it in my heart and not verbally ,” he told Brown. “This is obviously humiliating for me,” said Hannah, adding that members of her family were receiving messages about the controversy. “When I look back, yeah, it was a f-cking sh-tty thing to do and I should’ve walked up and said something right then and there, and I didn’t,” he said. “I should’ve said something at the Fantasy Suite and I didn’t. But once this started happening and I started seeing how I was feeling about you, I couldn’t think about anything else. You were it. “The reason I held back details that I did was because I was scared that if I told you, you’d walk away from me. And that’s the most coward thing to hear, I know, but that’s just the truth. And I’m so not proud of it.” View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Stars: Where Are They Now? Hannah was irate. She was bitter. But she was also sure of herself and clear-headed. “I was being told half-truths and lies and you wanted me to have clarity and clarity means truth,” she told Jed. “You got to see all of me, I didn’t get to see all of you.” Shortly thereafter, the finale cut to the live studio segment, where Hannah confirmed she had dumped Jed’s cheating rear end . “From the bottom of my heart, I want you to know that I’m sorry. … I wasn’t the best that I could be,” Jed told Hannah on air, adding: “I’m sorry that I took away that experience from you.
