When will the world wake up and realize how talented Adele is? Gleebasing: ‘I Think I Want to Marry You’

While reliving the glorious high of Gwyneth Paltrow’s episode of Glee last week (do not be foolish; it was her episode entirely), Movieline sadly figured that viewers would not score another hit of Ryan Murphy’s series this season that would produce the same euphoria. But we were wrong, because last night’s episode — regrettably titled “Furt” — delivered what Gleams* are made of: a storyline in which Sue Sylvester marries Sue Sylvester, Mike O’M alley steals screentime from Schue and Carol Burnett guest-stars as a deadbeat mother who sings Broadway tunes. Now onto the highs and lows.

Gleebasing: ‘Spears Is Fierce, Yo’

There is no way to cram six Britney Spears songs into an episode of Glee organically. Or so viewers learned last night when Ryan Murphy materialized in millions of U.S. homes viewers (at once, like Santa Claus), slipped them a gnarled episode that he engineered himself and fled into the night so that his audience could experience a mediocre high with hallucinations of Uncle Jesse from Full House . “Britney/Brittany” was traumatic and disappointing and no doubt left you itching for a hit of Glee , the way Murphy used to make it. Rather than hitting the streets in desperation, review the highs and lows with Movieline below. As always, there will be a pop quiz at the end — so pay attention!

Friday Box Office: The Kid Stays in the Picture

Sweep the leg! For the first time this summer a movie actually exceeded expectations at the box office. The Karate Kid — which tracking had opening in the highs 20s/low 30s range — grossed $19 million on Friday alone and could wind up with upwards of $52 million by Sunday night. Will Smith is so famous that even his kid can front a blockbuster. The other ’80s nostalgia piece of the weekend, The A-Team , detonated $9.5 million on Friday and should hit just under $27 million for the three days, good for second place. Is that disappointing? Slightly. But not really considering expectations were in that range. Let’s just say the plan sorta came together and leave it at that. The top-five after the jump.

What’s On: Idol All Shook Up?

A certain American Idol vet returns to the show and gives an impassioned performance of his new single. Nope, it’s not Jorge Nunez. It’s the American Music Awards bandit who gives mad-hot Butch Patrick/Jo Anne Worley realness on that stage. It’s… well, just follow us through the break.

Introducing Gleebasing: Your Guide to Glee’s High and Low Notes

Glee is kind of like crack. The first time you do it, you get an incredible high, but as you continue using, you feel less euphoric and more chemically dependent. You become paranoid (“Schu is trying to Benedict Arnold his own club!”), delusional (“Cory Monteith actually has a really good voice!”) and pretty soon, you’re shivering in the bathtub with a Glee soundtrack skipping in the living room and no more clean spoons in the house. If you share the same weakness, join Movieline each week to relive the highs, work through the lows, and earn extra credit off of your addiction. And pay attention — there will be a pop quiz.
