Kristin Cavallari Relives Her ‘Hills’ Debut On Finale Red Carpet

‘All the producers were like, ‘You need to own this,’ ‘ she tells MTV News. By Jean Bentley, with reporting by Tim Kash Kristin Cavallari might have looked calm in her blue dress as she confidently marched into the church where Heidi and Spencer were exchanging vows during season five of “The Hills.” But in reality, the former “Laguna Beach” star told MTV News at the “Hills” finale red carpet that she wasn’t quite as secure as she seemed when she made her big debut. “I was so nervous,” Cavallari admitted. In fact, it was the “Hills” crew that gave her the confidence she needed to make her grand entrance at the wedding so memorable. “All the producers were like, ‘You need to own this. Walk out there like, “Move over!” ‘ ” When Cavallari joined the cast after Lauren Conrad’s departure, she certainly had some big stilettos to fill (figuratively speaking). Her biggest concern was how the rest of the ladies would react to the news. “[I thought] ‘Oh my God, no one knows I’m here,’ ” she recalled. “I didn’t know how everyone was going to react. Everyone could’ve been like, ‘Why are you here?’ which I think it seemed like on the show.” But in reality, after the bombshell dropped, Kristin said the rest of the ladies were very kind to her. “Everyone was actually very sweet and did welcome me with open arms.” In fact, the tables were turned when one star said she was actually intimidated by Kristin. “Stephanie’s first comment was, ‘Wait, wait, wait — you’re going to be on the show now?’ She was like, ‘Oh, I’m scared!’ ” What were your thoughts when Kristin first appeared on “The Hills”? ‘The Hills’ Cast Addresses Mysterious Finale Scene

‘What’s real and what’s fake, you don’t know,’ Brody Jenner says of ending in which series seemed to break fourth wall. By Jocelyn Vena Kristin Cavallari and Brody Jenner Photo: MTV News “The Hills” came to an end with much fanfare on Tuesday night. But while the big buzz centered on Lauren Conrad’s return during the show’s live aftershow, most fans were scratching their heads about the series’ final scene. In the last scene, Kristin Cavallari gets into a waiting car destined for the airport, where she told her “Hills” pals she’d board a flight to some unnamed country in Europe. We watched as Kristin closes the car door, leaving Brody Jenner behind, waving goodbye … or so we thought. But instead of pulling away, the camera pans out to show the entire production, including crewmembers and cameramen. So, were the “Hills” producers commenting on the veracity of the events devoted fans watched unfold over six seasons? “The thing is, as you saw on the end — what’s real and what’s fake, you don’t know,” Jenner explained during the live aftershow broadcast. “Our relationship, the entire time could have been fake,” he said. “That’s one of the questions: what was real and what was fake, and we left it [open].” As for his partner in crime, Kristin, she said she enjoyed the way the show concluded. “I mean, I think we both couldn’t have been happier with the ending. We were speechless,” Cavallari said. Their ‘Hills” co-star Lo Bosworth seemed equally impressed with the final outcome and how it featured the onetime couple. “You know when the last scenes of the show were happening, I got a little [lump] in my throat,” she said. “They were great. I loved it.” The entire “Hills” crew, except Heidi and Spencer, was on hand to reminisce about their time on the show. And while the event was generally lighthearted, during a montage of Heidi’s life pre-Spencer, her sister, Holly, was visibly upset and crying. Holly told viewers she wasn’t sure about the status of Speidi, but said she hoped to one day be reunited with her sister, even praising her (“She’s the best person”). The series aftershow also allowed Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, to settle some rumors, including one that has her appearing next on MTV’s “The City,” which wrapped its second season on Tuesday night. “No! I twittered two weeks ago [that] I bought an open-ended ticket to New York,” Pratt explained. “That’s how it happened,” she said of the gossip. What did you think of the “Hills” series finale? Were you choked up? Surprised by the final scene? Tell us what you thought in the comments! ‘The Hills’ Stars Plan Their Post-Show Careers

Some plan to stay on TV, while others have behind-the-scenes projects in the works. By Jocelyn Vena Kristin Cavallari and Audrina Patridge Photo: MTV On “The Hills,” fans were given glimpses into the work lives of the cast. Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port both worked at Teen Vogue and People’s Revolution, where they were joined (for a short time) by Stephanie Pratt. Lo Bosworth works at Smashbox. Audrina Patridge let us all in on what it’s like to work at Epic Records. Heidi Montag even tried her hand at event planning when she worked at Bolthouse Entertainment. But now that the show is ending on Tuesday (July 13), how will we get our fix of our favorite “Hills” stars? Well, we have the lowdown on the next big moves the cast plans to make. Lo Bosworth, who has hinted at wanting to get into TV hosting, has launched her own lifestyle website, TheLoDown.com, where she’ll be on hand to give out advice on everything from fashion to boys. She’s also the face of Nivea’s Goodbye Cellulite Challenge. Kristin Cavallari is looking to continue her career in television — but behind the lens. “Going back to ‘The Hills,’ I’ve enjoyed seeing the behind-the-scenes and how everything gets put together, the TV magic,” she said. “So I want to start producing. I’ve been pitching some shows and talking to some people about that. So, hopefully, right away, I can get one of those running, and then I want to keep acting. I would like that. I like being in charge and calling the shots.” Audrina Patridge might land her own reality show, and the Bongo model admitted that a break was foremost on her mind. “I plan on taking a vacation,” she said. “I really want to go to Europe and just travel and hang out with my friends and family down in Orange County. But other than that, I’m still going to castings and still going to auditions for acting, definitely going to continue pushing for that. I would love to do a [period] piece, like, medieval. I love ‘The Tudors’ and I love ‘Troy’ and those types of movies. So that’s my dream.” While Spencer Pratt said he wanted to go back to school , he’s also been tweeting nonstop about his new website, the aptly titled KingSpencer.com , where he covers, ironically, celebrity news. His estranged wife, Heidi Montag , has also recently launched her own website , where she’s shared several designs for a new fashion line she is working on. She has also tweeted about working on several scripts for films, trying to get a role in “Transformers 3” and working on music for a new album. What do you want to see the cast do next? ‘The Hills’ Musical Legacy: Natasha Bedingfield, Lady Gaga And More

Artists from Hilary Duff to Journey owe a debt to ‘Laguna Beach’ and its spin-off. By Kyle Anderson Lady Gaga on “The Hills” Photo: MTV Tuesday night (July 13) represents a huge moment in the history of MTV programming and reality television in general. After six seasons, “The Hills” is coming to a close with a two-hour grand-finale event, beginning at 8 p.m. on MTV. It has been a watershed program, as it first established the sort of hyper-real aesthetic that many reality shows (and a handful of fictional dramas) copied. But “The Hills” and its predecessor, “Laguna Beach,” also left their mark in the music world. Each of the shows had theme songs that helped spark massive career moves for the artists behind them. The theme song to “Laguna Beach” was Hilary Duff’s “Come Clean,” co-written by Kara DioGuardi and John Shanks. Though it originally appeared on Duff’s 2003 album, Metamorphosis, and was released as a single in early 2004, it really picked up steam once it accompanied the premiere of “Laguna Beach” in September of that year. It peaked at #9 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart and earned Duff a shortlist recommendation (though no actual nomination) for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards. “The Hills” theme song did even better by its artist. When Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” debuted as the tune that introduced the world to “The Hills” in May 2006, it stormed up the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #5. In fact, because of its crossover appeal, “Unwritten” became the most-played song on the radio in the United States in 2006. Not bad for a track that was originally released in 2004 on Bedingfield’s debut album of the same name. “The Hills” also gave the world some early exposure to Lady Gaga . Before Gaga’s debut album, The Fame, took over the airwaves, she performed at a fashion show where Conrad and friend Whitney Port styled her. Gaga was even the subject of a minor plot in that episode, as the zipper of her catsuit broke, forcing Conrad to repair it and save the day. But perhaps the most lasting musical legacy of “The Hills” is actually a moment from “Laguna Beach.” The second-season premiere of “Laguna Beach” (which aired in July 2005) featured a scene wherein castmember Stephen Colletti picks Conrad up for a date. The song playing in Stephen’s car during the scene? Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which had yet to receive its second renaissance thanks to the series finale of “The Sopranos” (which didn’t air until two years later). Exposure on “Laguna Beach” (along with its appearance on a “Family Guy” episode the same week) sent the track skyrocketing into the iTunes Top 10, an amazing feat for a song that was nearly 25 years old. ‘The Hills’ Star Justin Bobby Was A ‘Genius’ Hairstylist, Adam Levine Says

‘One day, mid-cut, he was like, ‘So I think I’m going to do this show,’ ‘ the Maroon 5 frontman recalls to MTV News. By James Montgomery Justin Bobby and Audrina Patridge Photo: Jordan Strauss/ Getty Images Back before he was the slouchy philosopher dude with questionable facial hair on “The Hills” — who could forget his sage-like proclamation that “Truth and time will tell all?” — Justin Bobby was better known as Justin Brescia, hairstylist to the stars. And back then, he counted among his clients the gentlemen of Maroon 5 , who were, needless to say, rather amazed by his hairstyling abilities. Like, really amazed, as they told us earlier this month in New York. With the series finale of “The Hills” upon us, we decided to share their revelations with you now. “His name is Justin Brescia … somehow he became Justin Bobby,” M5 frontman Adam Levine said. “I don’t know quite how to say this — I’ve got to say this delicately — but the man is the most incredible hairstylist ever. He really is. Justin, you’re a genius,” he laughed. “He cut all our hair for a long time, and then one day, mid-cut, he was like, ‘So I think I’m going to do this show,’ and it was called ‘The Hills.’ And now he’s quit cutting hair and he’s on the show and he’s a big star, I guess.” But aside from having Brescia cut their hair, the guys in Maroon 5 remain rather blissfully unattached to the entire “Hills” phenomenon (“That’s about as close as I get to that whole … uh, thing,” Levine smiled). So they weren’t exactly aware that the show was coming to an end. But they were excited by the news, mostly because it meant they might be getting their old stylist back. “The guy was like Edward Scissorhands … he even has scissors tattooed on his arm,” Levine said. “He was really passionate about cutting hair, he was like a sculptor. I know it sounds crazy, but the dude is a monster.” Well, what are the odds of getting Brescia back? Levine thought about it for a second, smiled, and then provided an answer straight out of the Justin Bobby book of philosophy. “I don’t know,” he laughed. “Only truth and time will tell, bro.” What do you think Justin Bobby’s next act should be? Should he go back to cutting hair post-“Hills”? Tell us in the comments! ‘The Hills’ Girls Made ‘California Cool’ Fashionable Everywhere, Experts Say

Magazine editors weigh in on the West Coast style that Lauren Conrad and friends popularized. By Kara Warner, with additional reporting by Jocelyn Vena Lauren Conrad Photo: Getty Images The ladies of a href=”http://www.mtv.com/shows/the_hills/season_6/series.jhtml”> “The Hills” have left their mark on pop culture. Not only were they ratings darlings, but these impeccably groomed princesses of SoCal inspired women to tune in and take notes on how to create their own California fairy tale. From their stylish jobs to their frequent shopping trips and club outings, LC, Kristin and their friends have been influencing viewers’ fashion for the past six seasons. “[The show] hyped a certain kind of California cool style that the rest of the world hadn’t seen,” Nylon digital director Faran Krentcil told MTV News. “One that combined cheap cotton dresses with Chanel bags, and stacked friendship bracelets alongside Tiffany jewelry. These were young women mixing their own favorite things with what fashion magazines (and the East Coast style establishment) told them was cool, and they had the same kind of influence that Nicole Richie’s boho-luxe style had.” Seventeen magazine’s entertainment director Carissa Rosenberg Tozzi emphasized the impact Lauren Conrad has had on women. “Every girl, no matter what age, anyone from 12-35 was practically emulating her style,” Tozzi told MTV News. “It landed her on the covers of magazines. Girls wanted to look like her, be her, dress like her. She was such an influence during the time she was on ‘The Hills.’ You couldn’t deny that she was a huge influence on pop culture. Everybody was talking about her style. She was the girl next door — that perfect combination people always say, girls want to be friends with her, guys want to date her. She just had it all.” “It popularized the mix-and-match movement that makes it OK to throw a Juicy Couture T-shirt underneath a Miu Miu blazer,” added Krentcil. “And though girls in New York City were doing this too, Lauren Conrad and her comrades were doing it with tons of color! Before ‘The Hills,’ it was kind of assumed that you should wear black with pops of color if you wanted to look sexy or cool. They gave more options — in colors that used to be for tropical drinks only, not dresses and shoes. And they made it ‘acceptable’ to buy a $300 T-shirt.” Fashion designer Richie Rich acknowledged the show’s impact on youth culture, but not so much on the fashion industry as a whole. “I think ‘The Hills’ was a fun impact fashion-wise on the youth of our culture,” Rich told MTV News. “I don’t really think it made a huge statement fashion-wise, other then rich girls shopping. I think it also proved that celebs just putting their names on products doesn’t always mean it’s fashion. I think the catfights were the highlight for sure!” Star magazine fashion and beauty director Tara Kraft said she is confident the ladies will continue to be major style and beauty influencers beyond the show’s run, particularly since several of them are now deeply involved in the industry. “Lauren Conrad not only designed her own line for Kohl’s, but was the face of Mark., Avon’s sister brand. She repped their beauty line and also collaborated on a line of accessories with the company,” Kraft pointed out. “Whitney Port is also a fashion designer. Her line Whitney Eve has become quite popular. Audrina Patridge was just tapped as a new face for the line Bongo; Kristin Cavallari was a model for the fashion line Op.” Tozzi equates the impact of “The Hills” to that of “Sex and the City.” “Their style really set trends,” she explained. “The difference between what they did and what ‘Sex and the City’ did: Nothing that [the ‘Hills’ girls] wore was so over the top; everything they wore was accessible. You never felt that the choices, the kind of clothes they wore would make you feel weird wearing them. You weren’t making some crazy statement; you were just sort of looking good. It was all about looking pretty and put together. ” So who is next in line to inherit the fashion-forward throne from the cast of “The Hills”? “I don’t know, I’m curious to see what is next,” Tozzi said. “There always will be a next.” What show will influence your style now that “The Hills” is ending? ‘The Hills’ Rolling Stone Cover: How Did It Come Together?

Show creator Adam DiVello explains how they got Heidi and Lauren in the same room, in a ‘Hills: Revealed’ outtake. By Jocelyn Vena Lauren Conrad Photo: MTV Back in May 2008, Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag had already had a major falling-out and were no longer on speaking terms. So when Rolling Stone called and wanted to put all the stars of “The Hills” on the cover of the magazine, the show’s producers knew it would take some work to get the onetime pals in the same room again to join Whitney Port and Audrina Patridge for the scantily clad photo shoot. “You know, MTV press called us up and they said that Rolling Stone is interested in doing a cover for ‘The Hills.’ So, of course, you know, it’s the best call you can get,” show creator Adam DiVello recalled in an outtake from “The Hills: Revealed.” “I mean, for me anyway, every cover to me is iconic. I love the magazine, and the thought of a show that I created getting on the cover of Rolling Stone to me was an end all, be all.” The cover came with one big caveat: “All four girls, bottom line, no ifs, ands or buts,” DiVello recalled. “When you’ve got Rolling Stone calling [and] they want your cast on the cover of the magazine, but two of your castmembers don’t want to be together in the same room — namely Lauren and Heidi — it seemed like it was never going to happen. I mean, there was a time when we thought, ‘This is not going to happen,’ because we were not going to get them together.” But it seemed like the magazine-cover gods were shining on them, and the shoot came together. “You get to the bottom of it and figure out how to make it happen,” DiVello said. “And luckily, we pulled it off.” Are you excited for “The Hills” season finale on Tuesday?
