Marcus Kowal is living every parents’ worst nightmare. The MMA fighter and his partner have confirmed that their 15-month old son was killed on Saturday when the child and his young aunt were struck by a car while crossing the street. According to The Mercury News, Liam Mikeal Kowal and his 15-year old relative were hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk. The tragic incident took place around 4:15 p.m. The driver, a woman named Donna Marie Higgins, fled the scene… but witnesses actually followed her SUV and surrounded it until authorities arrived, the newspaper reports. Per a press release issued by the Hawthorne Police Department, Liam’s teenage aunt suffered “from what appeared to be leg injuries,” while the infant was found “pulseless and not breathing.” Higgins, a 72-year old shoe mugshot is featured below, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and drunken driving. She booked into Hawthorne jail with a $100,000 bail. “I saw [Liam’s] stroller in two pieces,” Kowal told a local ABC affiliate. “And he had a little green frog that he’s had with him since day one … and he carries around wherever he is. He won’t sleep without his green frog, and it was lying in the middle of the street.” Later Saturday evening, Kowal and his partner, Mishel Eder, took to the former’s Facebook page with a heartbreaking update from Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. “I want to thank everyone who has been there for us, in all forms and shapes,” it begins. “Thoughts, prayers, in person – whatever. We’ve received 100s and 100s of txt messages, emails, fb messages, etc – we are blown away. Your support means the world to us.” He then continued with the most horrific message any mother or father could ever write. About an hour ago, our baby was declared brain dead. He tried to fight so hard. He even died at one point but they brought him back. He’s a little fighter. His heart is still beating but his brain is no longer working. Our hearts are broken and there’s a void in my soul but we will get through this. Again, your support means the world and I wish we could respond to each and every one of you but right now, we are going work through this. Funeral arrangements will be posted here. RIP Liam Mikael Kowal. 5/25/2015-9/4/2016. Liam was taken off life support later that night. “I’m a fighter, I can take pain, I’ve taken pain my whole life and nothing hurts as much as this,” Kowal told ABC7. “I was proud to be a dad and I wanted to raise a good child.” We truly cannot imagine. Our heart goes out to Marcus Kowal and his family. Kowal told the station that he and Eder are donating Liam’s organs. “So his heart can live through another child,” the athlete said. “He loved to share, so I know he would have wanted to share his heart.” What beautiful words and what a beautiful gesture.
Last month, Australia actress Sophie Monk hosted a Q&A session with Bridget Jones’s Baby stars Renee Zellweger and Patrick Dempsey. Monk posed for a photo with the stars and posted it to her Instagram, but one tabloid was more interested in seeing if they could stir up a little trouble. According to the National Enquirer , Dempsey’s wife, Jillian was furious that the former Grey’s Anatomy star was “all over” Monk and “very touchy-feely” with her at the event. The Delux beauty co-creator is, according to the source, “ready to ditch him and walk away with half of his $40 million fortune.” Gossip Cop debunked the rumor , citing the Dempseys’ appearance with their children at the world premiere in London on September 5th. In January 2015, Fink filed for divorce from Dempsey after 15 years of marriage. “It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage,” a statement sent by the couple to Us Weekly read. “Our primary concern remains the wellbeing of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family’s privacy at this very sensitive time.” The couple did not have a prenup when they first got married, and Dempsey’s net worth is estimated to be $40 million. Reports suggest that Dempsey’s obsession with race-car driving is what put serious strain on their marriage, ultimately forcing her to file. The proceedings, however, were dropped , after the Dempseys were spotted holding hands in Europe last year. “For the past year, Patrick and Jillian have been working on getting to where they are right now. They are not dating anyone else, and only each other,” a source told People this past January. “They seem very happy and are spending a lot of time together. They go on dates and are also involved with the kids together.” When a journalist with ES Magazine asked if they were back together in May, Dempsey had an odd, if not cheeky answer. “Yeah, I think so,” he said. “You have to work at everything. And you cannot do everything. Something has to be sacrificed.” Dempsey’s focus is more on his three children than on racing these days. “I’ve sort of stepped back – I’m the team owner, but time goes by so quickly with my kids that I don’t want to miss that,” Dempsey said. “Last year we had a good team, and a good car, it was the right moment … where I could focus 100 percent on doing a full season. “Now it’s time to put that personal philosophy into my kids, allowing them to find their goals, their passions.” A source told People that the divorce “made Patrick miserable. We have good news and bad news for Kim Zolciak. First, the good: You don’t need to step foot in Buffalo ever again! Now, the bad: you are officially your family’s only bread winner. About two weeks after Kim’s husband, Kroy Biermann, signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, sources have confirmed that Biermann has been cut. He fell just short of making the perennial losing team’s 53-man roster for its first week matchup against the Ravens. Biermann had hoped to jump start his career with Buffalo, following seven seasons as a lineman for the Atlanta Falcons. And Zolciak seemed very excited about the career change at first. “Damnnnnn @kroybiermann Is killing me in his @buffalobills uniform!” she wrote on Instagram last month. “He is so overwhelmed with all of your support! Thank you I’m truly grateful for all of you! Comforting me lol and welcoming him!” Despite four consecutive Super Bowl losses in the 1990s and a past decade of very bad football teams, Buffalo has one of the most loyal fan bases in all of sports. And now Zolciak may have a problem on her hands: Biermann is 30 years old. That’s ancient in the NFL universe. He may very well be out of work, meaning Zolciak has to up her waist training and sponsored Instagram post game. She’s responsible for the family’s income now… and they have six kids! According to TMZ, Biermann just dropped $100,000 on a gigantic diamond ring for the couple’s five-year wedding anniversary. It was a thoughtful gesture, but we’re guessing he may have downsized a bit if he had seen this cut coming. If this really is it for Kroy Biermann, he ends his career with 216 total solo tackles and 23.5 total sacks. Celebrity stylist Brad Goreski may have been hired to dress Kaley Cuoco for a shoot, but if social media is any indication, he failed his client miserably. Goreski took a snap of himself with The Big Bang Theory star, who opened her blouse to reveal a boob. Yes, this boob: Goreski covered Cuoco’s nipple with a heart emoji, and used an old man filter for his own face. Cuoco looked damn proud to be showing off her breast, and rightfully so. In May 2014, Cuoco told Cosmopolitan that she got a boob job when she was 18, and just like Naya Rivera , Cuoco says it was money well spent. “It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done,” she said. “I love them. I couldn’t be happier,” Cuoco said. “Life is completely amazing – everything is amazing.” And even equestrians who date one another need their personal space. “It’s me time,” Cuoco said of her time spent with her four horses. “It’s important in a relationship to have moments when you do your own thing.” However, date night is improved vastly when horses are involved, according to Cuoco. “t’s funny, he’s either the one riding or it’s me, so we’re rarely doing it together,” Cuoco revealed to People Magazine. “But recently we did go on a little trail ride date . It was adorable. We hadn’t really done that yet,” she said of her time spent with Cook. “One is usually cheering for the other so that was kind of cute to go out together,” she explained, referring to their riding competitions. Okay, so maybe Luke Pell isn’t taking the whole Bachelor casting snub thing very well after all… On Tuesday night, ABC stunned viewers by passing over Pell (the presumed favorite) in favor of Nick Viall as the next Bachelor . Starting this spring with new episodes of the reality series, Viall will be given his fourth shot to find contrived love, following a pair of runner-up finishes on The Bachelorette and his current gig on Bachelor in Paradise. The selection came as a shock to those who watch The Bachelor online and who follow this franchise closely. At first, however, Pell seemed to take the rejection in stride. Just consider the following meme and message: “Thanks for all the love and support over the past few months, sometimes in life we are faced with unexpected changes,” Pell wrote on Instagram. A tad bit extreme, considering this “unexpected challenge” and this reference to God having a plan in centered on anchoring The Bachelor? Some might say. But it at least proven that Pell was handling the surprising selection very well. Now, however, Pell has come out and told Us Weekly that he was closer than folks could have possibly imagined to being named The Bachelor. And then it was taken away from him. “We were all satisfied, had agreed to the contracts and everything was moving forward,” Pell explains to Us Weekly . “I was checked in to my flight to come to L.A. I got a call from producers Sunday night at about 10 p.m. They said ABC had decided to quote-unquote go in a different direction. “I was supposed to fly out Monday morning at 9 a.m. I had my bags packed and everything.” And the Winner is? ABC executives have admitted that Viall was chosen at the last minute, but we didn’t realize it really was at the very last minute. According to Pell, far more than just an airline ticket had been purchased. “We had planned for intro filming and had planned to have my sister come on for a date and give advice as part of the show,” he says of how far into negotiations he got with the network. “I met with the wardrobe guys. Everything was moving forward. Everyone on the production level was expecting it to be me, as well.” Is Pell bitter over the way things went? Yes, clearly. Sort of at least. But he’s an alum of West Point. He’s come to “accept the decision,” he says, pointing to his military background in his response. “From all my years in the military, I’ve learned that some things are out of my control,” he told Us Weekly, adding: “I put it in the past, and I’m moving forward. It was a huge surprise, but the element of surprise and unexpected decisions is what the show thrives off of.” That’s very true. And puts it in perspective. Compared to some of the things he’s seen, done and prepared for in service to our country, this setback is pretty minor. Plus, he’s got his whole life ahead of him, reality TV or not. Would he do The Bachelor some time down the line if asked? Probably not at this point. For now, Pell is home in Nashville, Tenn., and says he’s focused on being “an entrepreneur and a songwriter.” He’s also still focused on finding a wife. It has been proven in a court of law that Jared Fogle participated in a child pornography ring. A little over a year ago, in July of 2015, the former Subway spokesman had his home raided by federal agents, with evidence eventually leading to 14 charges of sex solicitation from minors. In legal documents, Fogle was accused of traveling between Indiana and New York City in order to pay for sex with a multitude of teenage girls between 2010 and 2013. In November, Fogle was sentenced to 15 years in prison , with his attorneys trying to argue (in his favor, mind you) that Fogle was only guilty of “mild pedophilia.” That may be the biggest oxymoron since the term “plastic silverware” or “clothed Kim Kardashian.” In other words: Jared Fogle is a terrible human being. There is no denying this fact. Yet, incredibly, Jared Fogle managed to plummet to a new low this week. RUN, Miss Piggy and Kermit! Run away as far from Fogle as you can! Fogle has actually gone ahead and filed a federal complaint against the parents of an alleged victim who sued the ex-Subway pitchman after he supposedly received secret recordings of her changing her clothes and bathing. Yes, as part of Fogle’s sordid history, he paid for videos and photos of young teenagers in states of undress. Last March, parents of one of these teenagers filed a lawsuit against Fogle for emotional distress. They are seeking $150,000 in damages. In the lawsuit, the parents allege that Russell Taylor – the former head of Fogle’s charity – secretly filmed their underage daughter and other kids while they were changing clothes and bathing at Taylor’s house. He then passed along the footage to Fogle. In a motion filed Thursday, however, Fogle tried to turn the legal tables. He argued that the girl’s parents “through their actions, caused or significantly contributed to the injuries and damages alleged by Jane Doe in her Complaint against the Defendants.” Fogle isn’t denying his heinous actions here. He’s just having the balls to say the parents deserve blame for messing up their child, the one he grossly and illegally ogled. View Slideshow: 20 Celebrities You Probably Want to Keep Away From Your Children Fogle claims the parents were responsible for their daughter’s depression, anxiety and emotional distress due to their “hateful and abusive relationship toward each other, which included, but was not limited to, engaging in frequent fighting and arguing between themselves; abusing alcohol and getting drunk; and engaging in frequent fighting, physical abuse, and arguing with Jane Doe.” He also says these parents’ abuse and neglect caused their daughter’s alcohol and substance abuse, self-mutilation and suicidal thoughts. Earlier this summer, Fogle tried to argue that he isn’t that disgusting of a person. In an attempt to reduce his prison sentence, he filed a document with the U.S. Court of Appeals that claimed he only child porn to one person while in a hotel room. So, come on, he basically said! Give me a break! Fortunately, the judge wasn’t hearing it. As a starting quarterback, Colin Kaepernick often bolted from the pocket at the first sign of pressure from the defensive line. As a controversial protestor, however, Colin Kaepernick isn’t going anywhere in the face of ongoing criticism. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand during the playing of the national anthem prior to a preseason football game last week. After cameras found Kaepernick glued to the bench, he explained to reporters that he felt a responsibility to take some kind action against racial injustice in America. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said, adding: “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” In subsequent comments, Kaepernick brought up the recent deaths of African-American citizens in confrontations with white police officers and said he would continue his protest until he saw “significant change.” And he meant it. On Thursday evening, Kaepernick kneeled on the sideline while the Star-Spangled Banner played overhead prior to his team’s matchup against the San Diego Chargers. In this case, Petty Officer 1st Class Steven Powell sang the anthem, as 240 military officers held the U.S. flag on a night when the home team hosted the 28th annual Salute to the Military night. But the quarterback wasn’t alone this time around. Teammate Eric Reid also dropped to a knee. Elsewhere on Thursday, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane refused to stand during the national anthem before his game against the Oakland Raiders. “I’ll continue to sit,” Kaepernick said earlier this week. “I’m gonna continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed. To me, this is something that has to change. “When there’s significant change and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent and this country is representing people the way that it’s supposed to, I’ll stand.” However, Kaepernick is doing more than merely kneeling on the ground for a couple minutes in protest. He has announced plans to donate the first $1 million he earns this year to charities that assist communities in need. “I’ve been very blessed to be in this position and to be able to make the kind of money I do,” Kaepernick said after last night’s game. “And I have to help these people. I have to help these communities. It’s not right that they’re not put in a position to succeed or given those opportunities to succeed.” Kaepernick also said he spoke to a military veteran before the game about his cause. He received the man’s full support and explains that he took to a knee, as opposed to sitting all the way down, to “try to show more respect to the men and women that fight for this country.” Kaepernick has received some celebrity support, as well. John Legend, for example, says the Star-Spangled Banner is weak and that “America the Beautiful” should be our anthem instead. Either way, this is where things now stand: Colin Kaepernick is taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem. He’s doing so to draw attention to racial inequality in a country that prides itself as being the “land of the free” and he’s now giving $1 million to causes that are trying to help with this issue. And there’s a single person out there who has a problem with this? Why?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Two Middleton babies are on the way! One will be royal, the other will be a common plebe. OK! Magazine wins this month’s “Weirdest Tabloid Cover Story,” and it’s only September 1st. “Princess Kate & Pippa: We’re Both Pregnant!” The headline declares. “One’s having a boy, one’s having a girl! “Kate Will Be 8 Months Along At Pippa’s Wedding.” Pippa only got engaged to financier James Matthew on July 19th, so being an unwed mother is quite the scandal. “The news is twice as nice for the Middleton family: Sources say that not only is Duchess Kate expecting — her little sister Pippa, is too!” a source allegedly told OK! . “Just a few weeks back, Kate discovered that she’s expecting another little princess, and the buzz in Pippa’s circle is that’s pregnant, too — with a little boy.” The Duchess of Cambridge is mom to two children already – Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, who turned 1 on May 4th. And while Catherine and William are said to want a big family, there has been no official word from the palace on whether she is expecting. In other words, she’s not. 32-year-old Pippa is, of course, aware of the stigma attached to her situation. The source helpfully pointed out that she’ll “now have to endure whispers about whether hers is a shotgun wedding,” which would mortify her mother, Carole. I’m making that up. Carole looks to be a very modern broad and probably supports a woman’s right to get knocked up by a multi-millionaire. No matter! Pipps and Jim are in this to win this, having dated back in 2012, then getting back together this past fall, after she broke up with another fiancier, Nico Jackson. Plus, if all the gossip gets Pippa down, James can whisk her off on his private jet to his family’s hotel in St. Barts.
