Hate It Or Love It?! 21 Savage Thinks All Immigrant Children Should Automatically Become Citizens

Source: Jerritt Clark / Getty 21 Savage Speaks On His Stance Regarding Citizenship For Immigrant Children 21 Savage went through some immigration troubles of his own earlier this year, so on Thursday, he was honored by the National Immigration Law Center. When speaking on the subject, the rapper stated that children who were brought here by their parents and live illegally in America should automatically become citizens. “When you’re a child, you don’t know what’s going on,” 21 Savage said to   the Associated Press . “Now, you grow up and got to figure it out. Can’t get a job. Can’t get a license. I’m one of the lucky ones who became successful. It’s a lot of people who can’t.” This comes after 21 was forced to spend 10 days in an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center after he was arrested as part of a sting operation in Atlanta. His visa expired in 2006, unknown to him. Savage moved to America from the U.K. when he was only 7-years-old. He added more insight into his opinion of immigrant children living in America, stating something pretty controversial: “I feel like we should be exempt. I feel like we should automatically become citizens.” “When you ain’t got no choice, you should be exempt,” the rapper continued. “It’s not like I was 30, woke up and moved over here. I’ve been here since I was like seven or eight, probably younger than that. I didn’t know anything about visas and all that. I just knew we were moving to a new place.” 21 Savage was honored by the NILC for advocating immigrant justice, also speaking on the increasingly difficult process of obtaining a visa. “They just lose hope,” the rapper said of his fellow immigrants. “I feel like kids who were brought here at young ages, they should automatically be like ‘Yeah, you good to stay here, work and go to college.’ It should be nipped in the bud before it gets to a point before you come of age… We got a fight that we need to continue in this country. It ain’t over yet. “ What do you think of 21’s idea that children brought here by their parents should be granted citizenship?

So Sad: Multiple People Injured & Two Dead in Tallahassee Yoga Studio Shooting

Getty Images Multiple People Injured In Tallahassee Yoga Studio Shooting Six people were shot after a man entered a yoga studio in Tallahassee,  Florida  on Friday night, according to reports from the  New York Times . Two people died from their shooting wounds; and in addition, one of the victims was pistol-whipped. According to the  Tallahassee Police Department , the shooter, 40-year-old Scott Paul Beierle, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the incident. (Leon County Sheriff’s Office via AP) Chief of Police Michael DeLeo said the following about the shooting a news conference: “All indications are this is the act of a single person. There is no immediate threat to our community,”  DeLeo also added that there were “indications that several people inside fought back and tried to not only save themselves but other people, which is a testament their courage.” The shooting occurred at Hot Yoga Tallahassee at around 5:30 p.m. A 911 call was placed shortly thereafter at 5:37 p.m. “I’m deeply appreciative of law enforcement’s quick response to the shooting at the yoga facility in Tallahassee today,” Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum announced via Twitter. “No act of gun violence is acceptable. I’m in close communication with law enforcement officials and will be returning to Tallahassee tonight.” As we process the gut-wrenching act of violence that took place this evening in a place of peace in our community, we hold in our hearts everyone who is affected and lift them up in love. — City of Tallahassee (@COTNews) November 3, 2018

Getty Images Idaho School Teachers Dressed Up as Mexican Border Wall for Halloween Yet another group of people are in the news for thinking Halloween was an excuse to be blatantly racist…but are we really surprised? Employees of Middleton Heights Elementary School thought they were killing it when they came up with the idea of dressing up as a Mexican border wall that featured the phrase, “Make America Great Again” for Halloween. But that’s not all, folks, other staffers were apart of the elaborate costume, too, spotted wearing stereotypical sombreros, ponchos, and fake mustaches. Idaho’s Middleton school district apologized after elementary school teachers dressed as a border wall and Mexican stereotypes for Halloween. The superintendent said the costumes were “clearly insensitive and inappropriate” but denied any “malicious” intent. pic.twitter.com/DwDDRuxoqE — AJ+ (@ajplus) November 2, 2018 Very shorty after the photos surfaced on Facebook, Superintendent Josh Middleton issued an apology on livestream. Though he acknowledged that the costumes were insensitive, he said that he doesn’t believe the staffers had malicious intent. “Last night, a parent contacted me expressing concern of staff costumes worn here on Halloween,” he said. “I’m deeply troubled by the decision by our staff members to wear those costumes that are clearly insensitive and inappropriate … We are better than this.” He continued, “We already have district administration looking into the matter first thing this morning…Do I think there was a malicious intent in these poor decisions? No, I don’t. Was there a poor judgment involved? Absolutely.” About a dozen Idaho-based advocacy groups—including the ACLU of Idaho, Immigrant Justice Idaho, and PODER of Idaho—released an open letter to the district’s superintendent Friday afternoon, expressing their concerns about the harm that was caused by the offensive costumes. “The intent or misjudgments of the individuals involved does not undo the trauma experienced by students, families and communities,” the letter reads. “The impact on these students does not stay only with them but has lasting effects beyond the school or classroom. We believe the school and classrooms have now become hostile environments that are not conducive to the education of the students.” The staffers who wore the costumes have not been publicly identified yet, and it is currently unclear if they face termination or any disciplinary actions for the costumes.

American Horror Story: Undocumented Pregnant Women Detail Suffering Miscarriages While ICE Agents Ignored Them

Five undocumented pregnant women detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and CBP (Customs and Border Protection) have come forward in a report published by  Buzzfeed News  Monday saying that they were ignored by agents while miscarrying and described both agency’s contracted jailers as unwilling to respond to medical emergencies. Each of these women’s stories have been backed by statements from legal aid workers, medical workers and advocates who previously worked with ICE detainees. In one of the many case investigated by Buzzfeed, a 23-year-old detainee name E tells them: “An official arrived and they said it was not a hospital and they weren’t doctors. They wouldn’t look after me. I realized I was losing my son. It was his life that I was bleeding out. I was staining everything. I spent about eight days just lying down. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t do anything. I started crying and crying and crying. My soul aches that there are many pregnant women coming who could lose their babies like I did and that they will do nothing to help them.” According to the report, E (who didn’t want to use her full name out of fear) gave up her fight for asylum, accepted voluntary departure, and was deported back to El Salvador. But, this wasn’t an isolated incident. Buzzfeed News also noted that each of the incidents detailed were not limited to a single detention center. Reportedly, handful of medical workers and legal aid sources said they witnessed instances in which pregnant women were denied adequate medical care at more than six detention facilities across California, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Horrifying to say the least. In one of the testimony provided to the publication by the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES), a pregnant woman said she was given clothing that was so tight, she suffered welts and a “pain in [her] uterus.” Another woman said she underwent repeated X-rays while pregnant despite the Federal Drug Administration’s warnings against. Sounds awful and traumatic! One of the women, who was seeking asylum feared she would die in El Salvador, says this cruel punishment of losing her unborn baby after attempting to cross United States borders with stick with her forever.

James Van Der Beek Keeps It "Real" with Home Birth Photo

James Van Der Beek appreciates his Instagram followers. He’s grateful that you enjoy looking at his page and checking out the images. But he understands in this one special case. He won’t blame you at all if you choose to look away from his account for a few moments. The former Dawson’s Creek star has shared a photo on social media that is really unlike any celebrity photo you’ve ever seen on these platforms. The picture features Van Der Beek cradling his newborn daughter Gwendolyn … but when we say newborn , we mean NEWBORN . The child is still attached to her umbilical cord. Van Der Beek has taken fans inside his wife’s home birth, giving everyone a very up close and awfully personal view of what it’s like to partake in this sort of miraculous event. “The category is: Home-Birth Realness,” opens the father of five before in his caption to the following picture, warning the “squeamish” to divert their eyes.  We’ll emphasize that warning once again prior to publishing the photograph. Ready? You sure? Okay, here you go… Van Der Beek continues in his message, listing everything you see above: “Messy bed, Plastic sheeting underneath old sheets, Old towel crumpled on the floor, Vomit bag (unused), Inflatable birthing tub (also unused), Shirtless Dad, Boy in Spider-Man pajamas.” (NOTE: This final item is easily our favorite. We love the idea of this adorable toddler just wandering around while his mother gives birth in his house to his sister.) Concludes the actor: “Happy, healthy baby, Happy healthy Mom in her own shower right after giving birth, Water bottle And . . . placenta in a mixing bowl (I warned you).” It’s true. He did warn us. But most followers have reacted in amazement to such a picture, even thanking Van Der Beek for truly keeping it real. Wrote one impressed individual, with the Instagram handle @kimberlys40: Wow you are truly an amazing woman! @vanderkimberly and this is the most beautiful picture I have ever seen. Congratulations to the both of you and to your beautiful family. The Dawson’s Creek alum and his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, welcomed their fifth child on Friday, June 15. He and the wellness blogger are also parents of Olivia, 7, Joshua, 6, Annabel Leah, 4, and Emilia, 2. James conrirmed the arrival of little Gwendolyn on Sunday via a photo of the family fawning over its latest addition. “These last few days, as I’ve enjoyed the privilege of making smoothies I know my older kids will like, making my wife red raspberry leaf tea to ease her uterine contractions, spending ‘boy time’ with my son and getting my two year-old down for a nap in the way only I know how… I’ve been sick about something,” he wrote. He then referenced the VERY controversial White House policy of separating children from their immigrant parents: “As I write this, kids are being ripped from the arms of their parents. By our government. “For the kid’s benefit? No – the opposite – as a purposeful display of cruelty to deter would-be illegal border crossers AND legal asylum seekers (its happening to both). “And it wouldn’t be honest to wax poetic about my new-baby bliss without speaking up against this atrocity.” Concluded the veteran actor: A crime against humanity is a crime against us all.
