SMH: NYC Professor Says CUNY Illegally Seized & Lost Priceless Black History Documents & $12M Research

Source: georgeclerk / Getty He’s In The Middle Of A Complex Lawsuit With The Institution Of Higher Learning A Black political science professor, who was fired by the City University of New York, is currently tied up in a multi-million dollar federal lawsuit over lost Black history research. According to New York Daily News , Professor Joseph Wilson says decades of lectures, writings, correspondence, books and research, including some that can’t be replaced, was illegally seized by CUNY. The professor says years of research was boxed up and carted away by clueless CUNY security guards without warning in a series of warrant-less raids of his school offices. The drastic actions came after the celebrated professor was accused of enriching himself on the school’s dollar. Over the past several years since the the raids happened, Wilson has been fighting to save his Brooklyn College teaching job. He’s also tried with limited success to track down his items. Some were found tossed into random boxes, others were strewn across school shelves and plastic bags, and other items have completely disappeared. Wilson is seeking unspecified punitive and compensatory damages for his lost work in a lawsuit. He also is demanding CUNY dig up his property or pay him for what was lost. “All I want is justice. What gives people the right, for whatever alleged violations they used to fire me, to trash my history and my intellectual property?” Wilson told the Daily News . “The university has to be held accountable and apologize profusely and profoundly. They made some dastardly errors.” CUNY denies all allegations made against them by Wilson. The school said a neutral arbitrator found Wilson was appropriately terminated due to “serious misconduct” that included taking an additional $100,000 in compensation he wasn’t entitled to over the course of three years. He also allegedly submitted false documents to college officials. “We look forward to a full airing of all of the facts in this case, which clearly show that Mr. Wilson’s claims are without merit,” a spokesman said. “The lawsuit is built on false allegations.” Despite the allegations made by CUNY, Wilson definitely has a strong rep in the academic world. The 67-year-old was a leading expert on the history of Black working class and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first Black union. He’s also enjoyed a long tenured career as a political science professor at Brooklyn College, and he founded the Brooklyn College Center for Diversity and MultiCultural Studies, dedicated to increasing diversity among students, teachers and classroom topics. In 1997, he was also appointed director of the Graduate Center for Worker Education in lower Manhattan. Things took a shift for the downside when the “raid” was carried out at the Worker Educations Center in January 2012. “We were told not to move, that we couldn’t make any phone calls, or leave the office or speak to anyone,” said Wilson. Several months later, the suit says another seizure was carried out on the Brooklyn College campus where Wilson had two offices. Everything was taken, including his letters with poet and fellow teacher Allen Ginsberg , his correspondence with music legend Ray Charles , a transcript and notes on a previously undiscovered speech by Martin Luther King Jr. , and thousands more pages and items. Even his research into a death threat made against Civil Rights and labor organizer A. Philip Randolph (who was mailed a severed human hand) was taken. In addition to all this, Wilson also can’t find the bulk of his 40-year academic research, which independent scholars value at $12 to $14 million. Wilson filed his federal suit in 2017, but the complex case is still underway nearly two years later. For Wilson, the main goal is to recoup as much as his work as possible. He reflected on the experience saying: “I have to tell you, it was traumatic, shattering and world changing what happened, and I never believed that it could and I certainly didn’t think it would happen at CUNY. I amassed an incredible amount of documentary history on Black workers…a treasure trove on some of the great and the unknown civil rights leaders. How it is possible that all this is going to be erased?”

Kim Richards Target Arrest: WTH Happened?

We may never know exactly why  Kim Richards shoplifted items from Target earlier this month. But the store has now released an incident report of the alleged event, which led to the troubled star’s latest arrest, and it at least gives us an idea of  how Richards shoplifted items from Target. View Slideshow: 20 Really Big Real Housewives Scandals According to the documents, obtained by TMZ, Richards initially grabbed some reusable bags from the Van Nuys location of this chain. She then loaded them up with merchandise from the dollar section, tossing in various kinds of toys and accessories.  Target goes on to explain that the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star placed the bags in a shopping cart and drove said cart to the the express line… simply leaving it there without checking out. Richards told the clerk the items had already been paid for. She then grabbed another cart, eschewed any bags this time around and filled up the cart with toys and beauty products. Kim proceeded to push both her carts out of the store, got about three feet past the front door and was apprehended by a security guard who took her to a booking room. Once there, Kim claimed she didn’t recall whether or not she had paid for the items (which totaled approximately $600). The police were called in and they placed Richards under arrest. Richards, who has battled a substance abuse problem for years, is also now allegedly facing some major financial problems. It may not explain why she would steal an endless array of toys, but a recent report claims Richards is homeless and living out of her car.

SMH: Former Landlord Says Dame Dash Trashed His Crib Before Leaving Behind Art, Drug Paraphernalia And Clothes In House Where He Owes $162K Back Rent!

When the checks stop coming in for real! You know Dame’s missing them good old days! Via Page Six reports : Roc-a-fella Records co-founder Damon Dash trashed and abandoned his upstate mansion, leaving behind bongs and dirty laundry — but also jewelry and artwork, new court documents claim. The hip-hop mogul — who once said he was worth $50 million — owes $162,000 in back rent on the upstate Carmel pad, which boasts a music studio and pool. The landlord’s lawyer, Thomas Mullaney, told The Post that Dash “held the house hostage” for a year in a half while he dodged rental payments of $15,000 a month before he left it all behind. The carpets were ruined, and his “clothing strewn on the floor as if it were trash,” according to the landlord’s Putnam County lawsuit. “Mr. Dash simply abandoned the property,” owner Elad Yoran huffs in his lawsuit filed in Putnam County. Dash claims that he’s fallen on hard times, but Yoran’s lawyer said, “When I look online, he’s rolling around in a chauffeured Roll Royce, and he’s riding in a private plane. “He’s not living the life of someone who is trying to keep their expenses down so they can pay their obligations,” Mullaney said. Yoran was forced to pack and store Dash’s jewelry, drug paraphernalia, clothing and art work that he left strewn around the house as if “frozen in time,” the papers state. Dash raked in a fortune when he collaborated with Jay-Z on the record label and clothing company Rocawear. As part of his lavish lifestyle, he reportedly owned 1,300 different pairs of shoes, a $400,000 Maybach and items of clothing that were worn once and then donated. He said in court papers that he was no longer interested in the country house because it was too cold up north. But Dash insisted that he doesn’t even have enough money now to pick up his items in storage, court papers. He owed $2 million in unpaid taxes to New York state in 2009 and is fighting against a garnishment of his wages after he defaulted on a $238,078 loan to a garment-industry lender. The garnishments “have caused severe financial hardship that has not only made it nearly impossible for me to maintain my businesses, they have caused me to fall behind on my personal expenses including my rent payments for my only residence,” Dash testified in May. He also blamed his financial woes on child-support payments of $24,000 every three months to his ex-wife, fashion designer Rachel Roy, with whom he has two children. In addition to the rent, he owes payments to the maid and Yoran for packing and storing the items. Dash’s lawyer, Gregg Pinto, responded to the accusations in an e-mail, saying, “Elad Yoran reneged on a deal that he made and now wants to use bad press to gain leverage. Mr. Dash is not scared and wants to let a judge decide.” Best of luck to this landlord ever getting his money. Ain’t no shame in Dame’s game, running and telling the press how he got done dirty isn’t gonna make him move any faster. We’ll be shocked if a judge can even motivate the broke mogul to pay up!
