Artists Are Wearing White Roses At The Grammys This Sunday In Support Of #TimesUp

Getty Images Artists At Sunday’s Grammys Ceremony Will Show #TimesUp Support White roses are reportedly going to be worn by several artists at this Sunday’s Grammys ceremony, in order to show support for the #TimesUp movement. Roc Nation’s Meg Harkins and Interscope/Geffen/A&M’s Karen Rait are the masterminds behind the demonstration, and did so after noticing that the ceremony was approaching and nobody else had any plan in place to show solidarity, according to reports from  Billboard . Earlier this week, both Harkins and Rait met with a group of 12 other women in the music industry—collectively known as Voices in Entertainment—for dinner in New York City. The white rose was selected as a nod to the use of the color white for suffragettes in the past. Harkins said about the planned demonstraion,  “It is an important conversation politically in our country and it’s also a conversation we need to have internally with our artists and our companies…We need to say if anyone is feeling like they’re being discriminated against and they don’t feel safe in their workplace, they have people who will support them.” Among the artists who will be wearing a white rose to Sunday’s ceremony are Halsey, Dua Lipa, Tom Morello, Kelly Clarkson, Rapsody, Cyndi Lauper, and Rita Ora.

Surprise! Ethan Hawke Haunted House Horror Sinister Sneaks At SXSW

Three days into SXSW and the biggest winner so far has been Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s geek-pleasing meta-horror pic Cabin in the Woods , which Lionsgate releases in April. But also in town in search of a SXSW buzz bump is Lionsgate/Summit’s Ethan Hawke -starring haunted house pic Sinister , which debuted as a “secret screening” Saturday night – not the most spectacular secret title possible, especially in contrast to hopeful speculation for a sneak Avengers or Hunger Games debut, and not entirely secret , but fine enough. Sinister , set for release in October, stars Hawke as a novelist so desperate for inspiration that he moves his family into a house whose former inhabitants were recently murdered; he discovers mysterious Super 8 snuff films but begins to lose his grip as the spooky supernatural truth behind the killings emerges. The early consensus here is that Hawke’s performance is impressively moody and the scares effective, but Sinister remains within the constraints of the haunted house subgenre, for better and for worse . But would Sinister have made a great festival secret screening if not for its pedigree? Screenwriter C. Robert Cargill (AKA “Massawyrm”) is a contributor to Ain’t It Cool News, which hosts the annual secret screening sidebar, director Scott Derrickson ( The Day the Earth Stood Still , The Exorcism of Emily Rose ) has at least some genre cred to his name, and producer Jason Blum is one of the masterminds behind the recent wave of modestly-budgeted hit horror acquisitions, having produced the Paranormal Activity films and last year’s Insidious . Cabin in the Woods may have earned the more effusive praise but Sinister seems poised to reap greater benefits from its SXSW debut, considering that it wasn’t on anyone’s radar beforehand. Now instead of being that one movie that sounds like a quickie studio Halloween release, it can at least claim to be that one movie that sounds like a quickie studio Halloween release that played decently to the early birds. We’ll see in seven months if Sinister can play to audiences this well and garner Lionsgate/Summit their own PA / Insidious -style hit. Read more from SXSW 2012 .

Finally: The Hunger Games Has its Own Cookies

Screw the bread : From the innovative bakery that brought you edible Uggies — and just in time for one of the more passionately anticipated opening days of the year — comes this remarkable contribution to the annals of sweets: Hunger Games cookies. Leave it to the masterminds at Eleni’s to whip up Katniss, Peeta, Gale, tracker jackers and the rest of the “Down with the Capitol” cookie set — an assortment of call-outs to the best-selling, soon-to-be-a-major-motion-picture book series. I’ve never read a page of Suzanne Collins’s novels and personally continue to find Woody Harrelson’s wig a staggeringly tall barrier to film-franchise entry, but even a disinterested party can’t help but want to nibble on Jennifer Lawrence. Or Liam Hemsworth. I can’t believe I just wrote that. It’s Friday! I’m high of cold meds and self-loathing. Just stand back. Find out more at Eleni’s Web site . ‘Yo! MTV Raps’ Returns For December 4 Special

Classic hip-hop special will air on MTV2 after first annual Sucker Free Awards. By Gil Kaufman Photo: MTV2 Call it the “Beavis and Butt-Head” factor, but suddenly everything old is, like, cool again. Or something. Case in point: On December 4, MTV2 will herald the return of one of the most beloved franchises in MTV history, “Yo! MTV Raps.” The show, which originally aired from 1988 to 1995, was the first major hip-hop program on a network, and it helped rap videos blow up globally as it gave some of the biggest stars of the day a forum to talk about their music with hosts Fab 5 Freddy, Ed Lover and Dr. Dre. The 30-minute retrospective, entitled, “Yo! MTV Raps Classic Cuts,” will air just after the first annual Sucker Free Awards , which premiere at 11 p.m. on December 4. The show’s original hosts will be on hand to discuss some of the clips that aired on the program, including interviews with the masterminds behind three of the all-time “Yo!” classics: A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario,” Geto Boys’ “My Mind’s Playing Tricks on Me” and Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day.” “It’s a great moment to be reconnected with ‘Yo!’ and examine the music that had a role in introducing hip-hop to music lovers globally,” former co-host Ed Lover said. “By looking back at these classic songs in hip-hop it becomes clear that hip-hop would inevitably transcend distance and generations.” Among the artists viewers will hear from on the special are: Q-Tip, Scarface, Ice Cube, Wiz Khalifa, DJ Khaled, Questlove, Busta Rhymes, Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, Young Jeezy, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife, Fat Joe, Common, Mike Epps, Ice-T, Meek Mill, Tyga and Naughty by Nature. As a bonus, DJ Premier will also be in the house to remix the iconic “Yo!” theme song. “In this Classic Cuts special, people will go back to a seminal time in hip-hop, which many have called the ‘Golden Era,’ resulting in records that are as meaningful today as they were back then,” said original host and hip-hip pioneer Fab 5 Freddy. “In order to appreciate how far hip-hop has come, you have to pay respect to the songs and artists that helped catapult the genre from a small community of fans to world domination.” The “Yo!” special will also cap a monthlong celebration of hip-hop that will culminate with the Sucker Free Awards hosted by MTV’s Sway Calloway. Vote for your favorites now on SuckerFreeAwards.MTV2.com , and don’t forget to tune in December 4 at 11 p.m. ET on MTV2 for the first Sucker Free Awards! Related Videos Yo! Comic-Con 2009: Old Faces Return for Final Season of ‘Lost’

The Lost panel at Comic-Con is always a big deal, which is somewhat surprising given the relatively small amount of information they actually give out.
