Is Jennifer Garner Practicing Her Sarah Palin?

That’s what you might deduce from Harvey Weinstein’s recent comments about the actress’s role in Butter , in which she plays a fierce Midwestern butter-sculpting competitor. “[A] young sculptress played by Yara Shahidi ( Imagine That ) makes a run for the greasy gold,” per the NYT , “and ‘lo and behold the Sarah Palin-ish Jennifer Garner character’ is determined to thwart her.” There’s a “reload” metaphor in here somewhere, but it’s really too early for me. Avatar Breaks Even More Records

After setting the record for most Blu-ray discs sold in a single day , the fact that Avatar is now the biggest selling Blu-ray of all-time should surprise exactly no one. In just four days, the highest grossing movie ever sold a ridiculous 2.7 million Blu-ray discs, which is more than previous record holder, The Dark Knight , sold in 16 months. Of course all these records beg the question: If it weren’t Avatar , what would people have spent their disposable income on during the past four months? [ LAT /Company Town ]

Weekend Receipts: Dragon Slays

For the first time in two weeks, the weekend box office results won’t come down to the final figures on Monday. Take that, bean counters! Unfortunately for Jennifer Lopez and The Losers that means no shady numbers massaging — cough, Lionsgate — will allow them to sneak away with the top spot. Grab your best five-week old pop culture reference, hop on a dragon and get ready for some weekend receipts.

UPDATE: Bret Michaels Stabilized

TMZ reports that the Poison frontman Bret Michaels is, apparently, conscious, talking and feeling better after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Friday. This comes from — I kid you not — Ambre Lake, the Season 2 winner of Rock of Love , who says she spoke to someone with knowledge of the situation. Because, of course she has. Isn’t it nice that these two still keep in touch? [ TMZ ]

Friday Box Office: The Losers

April: It’s the new September. After last weekend’s disappointing returns, this weekend is poised to do worse . Only Jennifer Lopez’s abysmal The Back-Up Plan reached $4 million on Friday, and it won’t even be in first place come Sunday because of holdover How to Train Your Dragon . Also debuting: The Losers , which, duh. For commentary, check the title. Oh, and for the thirty-seven of you who still care: Kick-Ass saw a Friday-to-Friday drop of 63 percent and landed in fifth place. Cue the wails of “You’re expectations were too high!” The top-five after the jump.

Bret Michaels Suffers Massive Brain Hemorrhage

Poison frontman and current Celebrity Apprentice contestant Bret Michaels is in critical condition after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage . The 47-year-old rocker (and former Rock of Love star ) complained of headaches Thursday night and was rushed to the hospital, where he remains under intense observation. Just 11 days ago, Michaels underwent an emergency appendectomy. It is still unknown whether the hemorrhage is related to the appendectomy or Michaels’ Type 1 diabetes. [ EW ]

Ryan Murphy, We’ve Found Kurt’s Boyfriend on Glee

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has made a point of announcing how anybody can audition for one of three roles being added to the show for next fall — anybody, that is, except for Ugly Betty star Mark Indelicato. Since one of the new characters is a boyfriend for the flamboyant Kurt, we humbly suggest that Murphy suspend his required age range for the role and give the out-of-work Indelicato (who play the equally fabulous Justin on Betty ) a chance to make this gay pairing almost too glittery for broadcast television. Eddie Murphy, Bruce Willis and Others Invite You to Honor Jerry Bruckheimer, American Master

AFI first announced its plans to honor legendary producer/pyrotechnician Jerry Bruckheimer about a week ago, scheduling a series of some of his most explodey blockbusters around the premiere of his new Prince of Persia . Whatever, right? Well, no : Looking at how the series has shaped up, a trip to the Chinese or El Capitan Theaters is hardly the worst way to plan your evening of May 17.

Green Hornet Bumped to Next Year

Well, this isn’t gonna quell the buzz. Amid recent rumors that Sony is unhappy with the Michel Gondry-directed, Seth Rogen-starring The Green Hornet , Deadline reports that the film has been bumped to 2011 — albeit by three weeks. Hornet will now be converted to 3D and debut January 14. Yes, The Green Hornet and The Green Lantern will both be coming out in the same year. It won’t be at all confusing. [ Deadline ]

In Break from Tradition, Woody Allen Actually Announces New Film’s Title and Plot

Woody Allen is hardly in the business of making tightly guarded fanboy tentpoles or highly anticipated sequels, but by the veil of secrecy he hangs over each project, you’d never know it. Cast lists, plots and titles are often scarce on his movies until close to the release date (Anthony Hopkins didn’t even know the title of the film he just made with Allen until a few weeks ago), but apparently, Allen has something new up his sleeve for the Owen Wilson/Rachel McAdams film he’s about to shoot: total candor.
