Teen Vogue Hires The Youngest And First Black Editor-In-Chief Ever Teen Vogue has just made some history making news reports NBC News : A historic change-up at Condé Nast: Teen Vogue’s former editor-in-chief Amy Astley has been replaced by Elaine Welteroth, the media group announced Thursday. Welteroth becomes the first African-American to hold the position at the fashion magazine, and the youngest editor-in-chief in Condé Nast history. This is not the first time Welteroth has made headlines, having also served as Teen Vogue’s first African-American beauty director since 2012. Only the second Black editor-in-chief at large in the history of Condé Nast, Welteroth’s experience traces back to Glamour magazine from 2011 to 2012, where she advanced from Beauty writer to Senior Beauty Editor, and her role as the Beauty and Style editor of Ebony magazine from 2008 to 2011. As the youngest person to hold her new title at age 29, Welteroth is joined by two other editors – an unprecedented move for the magazine. North and South Korea family reunions#39; dates were set for Oct. 20-26. North and South Korea agreed on Tuesday to hold a reunion in October for families separated by the Korean War, following all-night talks between their respective Red Cross branches. Consumers stepped up their borrowing just as the economy began to slump and hiring slowed. How College Students Can Build A Simple Budget The Federal Reserve said Friday that consumer borrowing rose $5.1 billion in May, the eighth straight monthly increase. It followed a revised gain of $5.7 billion in April. Borrowing in the category that covers credit cards increased, as did borrowing in the category for auto and student loans. Borrowing is a sign of confidence in the economy. Consumers tend to take on more debt when they feel wealthier. That boosts consumer spending. Ultimately, it gives businesses more faith to expand and hire. But an increase in credit card debt can also be a sign of people falling on harder times. 7 Affordable Gifts That Build Wealth The economy added just 18,000 jobs in June, the fewest in nine months, the Labor Department said Friday. It was the second straight month of feeble job growth. The unemployment rate rose to 9.2 percent, the highest rate of the year. Economists have said that temporary factors, in part, have forced some employers to scale back hiring plans. High gas prices have cut into consumer spending, which fuels 70 percent of economic activity. And supply-chain disruptions stemming from the Japan crisis have slowed U.S. manufacturing production. Economists don’t expect consumers to load up on debt the way they did during the housing boom. During that period, Americans felt wealthier and more willing to take on increased debt because of the soaring value of their homes. The Federal Reserve’s borrowing report includes auto loans, student loans and credit cards. But it excludes mortgages and loans tied to real estate.
Producer Nigel Lythgoe says pretaping will continue for several weeks as new judges and director get up to speed. By Gil Kaufman Casey Abrams Photo: FOX If you were looking forward to watching the “American Idol” top 13 perform live for the first time on Wednesday night (March 9), well, you’ll have to just keep waiting. The singers pretaped their performances on Tuesday night after the Fox network confirmed that the show is not quite ready to go fully live. A network representative told People magazine, “we have pretaped shows at this stage of the competition before … although it’s rare.” Among the reasons the network cited for pretaping the show is to make sure that all 13 contestants’ performances make it into the two-hour broadcast. It is only the second time in “Idol” history that there have been 13 finalists, and even with 12 singers in the past, producers have sometimes struggled to get all the songs in without running over . Because some “Idol” fans are conspiracy-minded by nature, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe launched a preemptive strike on Twitter on Sunday to explain and defend the decision to keep the performances taped for the next few weeks. “We are pretaping for 2 weeks as we have a new Director & new judges. It has nothing to do with manipulation you morons.” That comment, of course, led to some spirited back-and-forth between Lythgoe and said “morons,” some of whom needled Lythgoe about the alleged manipulation. “I love you all getting riled up. The Tweet was directed at the MORONS who said we are pretaping to manipulate the show. Not the TRUE fans!” wrote Lythgoe, who eventually threw his hands up and added, “Sorry I can’t play anymore I have to go to work. There’s manipulating to be done. xox.” He updated the situation on Tuesday, lamenting , “It’s been a tough day trying to get the sound right. With a mix of live band, Jimmy Iovine’s amazing producer’s tracks and live vocals.” He also revealed later in the day that the top 13 had recorded vocals for full-length tracks, which he believes will be available on iTunes after the show airs on Wednesday. Thursday night’s elimination show will air live.
