Kim Kardashian Explains Why It Took ‘So Long’ To Date Kanye West

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the reality star explains why their longtime friendship just recently turned romantic. By Christina Garibaldi Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Photo: Kim Kardashian seems to finally have found her Prince Charming in Kanye West . The two have been parading around Paris , proving along the way that their relationship is not merely a publicity stunt. Kim is now opening out about her blossoming relationship to Oprah Winfrey in the second part of her Kardashian family interview on “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” In an excerpt from the upcoming episode, the talk-show host asks Kim if her relationship with Kanye is her new fairytale, a question that immediately makes her blush. “We met maybe almost a decade ago, I’ve known him for a really long time, we’ve been friends for like six or seven years, so it’s very comforting to have someone that knows everything about you that respects you, understands, has gone through similar things,” Kim said. “I can really relate to his mother passing, he can really relate to my father passing. I mean, there’s so many similarities in our life that I feel like I’m at a really happy, good space.” While the two could have started dating a while ago, Kim said she feels that her experiences, namely her divorce from Kris Humphries , were things she had to go through in order to be ready for this relationship. “I don’t know why it took so long for us to kind of get together,” Kim said. “But I think I needed to go through all my experiences and some that he’s gone through.” In addition to questioning Kim on her relationship, Winfrey also sat down with her sister Khlo

Anne Hathaway ‘Pleased’ With Her Short ‘Les Miserables’ Hairdo

‘I now quite like having short hair,’ actress says of super-shorn pixie look. By Kara Warner Anne Hathaway Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Sometimes just being a beautiful actress in Hollywood isn’t enough; what you need to do in order to really turn heads in this business is take a razor to your tousled tresses. Case in point, Charlize Theron’s radically different new ‘do for her upcoming role in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and Anne Hathaway’s super-shorn pixie look for her turn in the star-studded film adaptation of New York magazine’s Vulture blog recently caught up with Hathaway, who revealed that she is very much enjoying the close-cropped hairdo. “I did it for a film, so it really wasn’t about me and my security,” she said. “I’m just so pleased with how I look, so I now quite like having short hair.” The short hair is a requisite of sorts for Hathaway’s role in the film, in which she plays Fantine, an ill-fated prostitute who chops off her hair to buy food for her child, Cosette. The “Dark Knight Rises” actress also spoke about the pressure of having to sing one of the play’s most iconic numbers, “I Dreamed a Dream,” live on set during filming. “Well, that’s actually the thing we talked about when I first came in to film,” Hathaway said. “I apparently looked like I was ready to face the guillotines. They just kept telling me and the cast to ignore the iconic nature of ‘Les Miz’ and of the song.” Hathaway went on to say that she had to attempt to sing it as if it had never been sung or heard before, despite the fact that she basically grew up hearing the song. “My mom was in the show when I was a kid. She actually covered Fantine and went on the national tour, so it was a really big part of my childhood.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Les Miserables.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

SIFF: Emile Hirsch on Killer Joe Pressure and David Gordon Green’s Secret Movie Prince Avalanche

At the Seattle International Film Festival over the weekend to fete director and Lifetime Achievement honoree William Friedkin and present their NC-17 Southern-fried potboiler Killer Joe , actor Emile Hirsch spoke with Movieline about the “secret” movie he’d just shot with David Gordon Green ( Prince Avalanche , also starring Paul Rudd) and the experience of being on a Friedkin set, where the pressure to deliver on a tight schedule was palpable. “If you messed up your lines or something, Billy would make you pay a little bit,” Hirsch said. “You really didn’t want to mess up at all.” Hirsch’s Killer Joe character already suffers his share of punishment in the brutal black comedy, adapted from the play by Tracy Letts ( Bug ); he plays Chris, a trailer park-dwelling drug dealer who enlists a cold-blooded cop (Matthew McConaughey) to kill his mother. Things go awry, to say the least, drawing the entire morally-corrupt family (Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon, Juno Temple) into the fray, with violent consequences. “On set it was a high wire act,” Hirsch said, introducing Friedkin’s tribute event at the Seattle Film Festival. “He would be totally supportive of the actors to give the best performance that they could, but he let you know that you weren’t just playing with free time. You were here to shoot a movie very quickly and do the very best you could; he didn’t want you to give a great take on the tenth take when you sort of felt like it, he wanted you to give ‘the take’ the first time out. He would constantly remind you, ‘This ain’t a play, mo.’” Friedkin’s reputation preceded him before Hirsh went to meet for Killer Joe , the director’s latest feature following 2007’s Bug . “The chance to get to work with him was sort of intimidating, because you don’t really know what to expect,” recalled Hirsch to Movieline. “A lot of these legends are like, is this guy a legend for his movies or is he just some crazy maniac axe-murderer? But what he lived up to was the energy; he’s a combination of a tornado of energy but also this really specific intellect. He has so many stories and such insight, and is really quick on his feet and spontaneous and in the moment. He’s a really interesting mix of elements.” That’s not to say Friedkin wasn’t demanding, especially when it came to Hirsch’s more punishing scenes. His character is beaten by goons and bashed with canned goods — Killer Joe has a way with perverting even the most familiar of comfort foods — and Friedkin relished in pouring on the fake blood. “My character definitely has a bad week,” Hirsch laughed. “I think I felt the pressure in the sense that he doesn’t like to do a lot of takes, so there would be one or two takes that you’d know you would have and you wouldn’t want to blow your lines or not give your best performance. He would light that fire under you and there would be pressure, and you knew that if you fell off the high wire act, there wasn’t a net underneath — it kind of hurts, you definitely don’t want to fall.” Hirsch also discussed Prince Avalanche , the David Gordon Green-directed indie filmed under the radar last month near Austin, Texas. A remake of the Icelandic comedy Either Way , about two men on a road-striping crew, the film stars Hirsch and Paul Rudd and, as Hirsch told Movieline, his involvement sprang from another ill-fated project he and Green once hoped to make. “ Prince Avalanche — I didn’t actually realize it was a secret movie, I just thought we were making a really small movie that no one knew about. David had called me and I’d been wanting to work with him for years; we almost made a movie called Goat a while back. And it’s this kind of crazy, awesome cool script we shot with Paul.” Hirsch kept details under wraps, though he had this to say about the remake: “[Hirsch’s character] is kind of an interesting dude. It’s very similar to the original in a certain sense. It’s set outside Austin, in Texas. It’ll be an interesting mix of some real pathos mixed with some comedy.” Stay tuned for more with SIFF honorees William Friedkin and Sissy Spacek. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson: Stepping Out, Still in Love

It was date night for The Bachelor’s Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson last night. The two stepped out in L.A. at Svedka’s 2nd Annual Night of a Billion Reality Stars bash with fellow reality fixtures such as Jon Gosselin, Kyle Richards, Ali Fedotowsky, Teresa Giudice, Gretchen Rossi. Like a C-list Who’s Who right there. Clearly, after everything that’s gone down, Ben and Courtney were the center of attention. They said that’s starting to fade as they settle into normal life, however, and they really couldn’t be happier for their 15 minutes to fade away. “It’s getting close,” Flajnik said of returning to normalcy after the past year. “Now that the show’s over and the star’s fading … [it’s] wonderful for us.” “We’re getting there,” Courtney Robertson added. Although the couple have an army of skeptics, they say they’ve learned “lots” about each other since the end of the Bachelor’s filming and its aftermath. “The thing people don’t know is that when the show was airing we spent a lot of time together, and we were off almost every weekend,” Ben explained. “We got to know each other really well.” As for wedding plans? “No date set,” Robertson admitted. “We’re engaged, dating, taking it slow . We love each other very much. It took the pressure off. ” Mused Flajnik: “We kind of looked back at some of the other Bachelor relationships that didn’t work out and the reason for that is you have so much pressure.” “Pressure to move in together and set a date and all this kind of stuff … Let’s figure out who we are together before we do any of that and take the pressure off.” If they do tie the knot, it would be in “Arizona or California somewhere,” he said. Will it ever get to that point? Vote below : [Photos: Pacific Coast News]

George Zimmerman’s Father Speaks Out, Says Trayvon Martin Threatened to Kill Son

George Zimmerman’s father, Robert Zimmerman, says Trayvon Martin threatened to kill his son, then beat him to the point where he had no choice but to defend himself against the 17-year-old in Sanford, Fla., on February 26. The elder Zimmerman spoke, on camera but without showing his face, to Orlando, Fla., TV station WOFL, to share his son’s side of the national story. He claims Trayvon Martin attacked first and may have killed Zimmerman. Robert Zimmerman Interview “It’s my understanding that Trayvon Martin got on top of him and just started beating him,” Robert Zimmerman told WOFL. “Martin said something to the effect of, ‘You’re going to die now’ or ‘You’re going to die tonight.'” “He continued to beat George. At some point, George pulled his pistol … and what he did.” “He was punched in the nose. His nose was broken,” Robert Zimmerman insists . “He was knocked to the concrete. Trayvon Martin got on top of him and started beating him.” “Beating him in the face. In his nose, hitting his head on the concrete.” The comments came just after the George Zimmerman surveillance video , taken at police headquarters the night of Martin’s killing, was released. His hands cuffed, Zimmerman does not appear to have substantial injuries, though the video does not show a close-up of the neighborhood watchman. The video was taken four hours after the incident took place. “The injuries that made it sound as though he really should have been on a stretcher are not apparent in this tape at all,” CNN analyst Marcia Clark said. “He moves freely. He moves fluidly, not like someone who has just been through a beating in any way, shape or form, someone whose head has been pounded on the pavement as hard as described, someone whose nose was broken and bleeding.” “That tells you a great deal.” Zimmerman’s attorney Craig Sonner described the video as “very grainy” on NBC’s Today , noting that Zimmerman had been “cleaned-up” and received first aid care in the hours between the incident and his arrival at the police station.

Selena Gomez to Haters: Bring It!

Due to her relationship with Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez is not the most popular singer on the planet. She’s faced numerous death threats over the past year, in fact, with authorities actually getting involved at times due to the serious nature of the personal attacks. But Selena is handling the pressure as best she can, never backing away from those who claims to love Justin, yet somehow also don’t want him to be happy in his relationship. Latest case in point: check out a photo Gomez posted to Instagram on the set of her new film, Spring Breakers . This isn’t the first time Selena has addressed her critics. She said in an interview last year that the single “Who Says” was written “to the haters… to the people who try to bring you down.” As you can tell here, though, those people have failed miserably when it comes to Selena Gomez. You tell ’em, girl!

9 Pro Tips for Landing That Action Star Gig from John Carter’s Taylor Kitsch

Taylor Kitsch is about to have a very big 2012. In addition to carrying Disney’s ambitious sci-fi adaptation John Carter as the titular Edgar Rice Burroughs hero, a Civil War veteran transported to Mars, he’s also fronting Peter Berg’s alien invasion actioner Battleship and starring in Oliver Stone ’s Savages later this year. But as Kitsch revealed to Movieline, the John Carter job wasn’t easy to get — and the toll it took on him during production was a challenge in itself. So who better to offer pro tips on nabbing the spotlight and handling the pressure of becoming an action hero than Kitsch, on the eve of a new chapter in his career? It should be noted that Kitsch is no stranger to action, having appeared in films like Snakes on a Plane , The Covenant , and X-Men Origins: Wolverine already in his six-year career, and no stranger to the spotlight thanks to his beloved turn as Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights . But John Carter marks his first starring role and by far his biggest film to date, a sprawling epic set on a vast alien world envisioned in great detail by director Andrew Stanton ( Finding Nemo , WALL-E ). So how did Kitsch land the coveted role? What does his John Carter role share in common with his last one, as the late South African photojournalist Kevin Carter, in The Bang Bang Club ? All this and more as Taylor Kitsch shares his pro tips on landing (and keeping) that action hero gig. 1. Don’t think of yourself as an action star . “That’s you guys labeling me, so me saying yes to that – I can’t say yes to that because I refuse to put myself in that bubble. You saw Bang Bang Club , that’s no action movie. We hope to keep throwing you curveballs so you can’t put me in a spot like that.” 2. Ignore the hype and the naysayers – worry about putting pressure on yourself to do the work so you can sleep at night . “The pressure is what I put myself on in the sense of getting and doing the best I can, and having no regrets with what I put into it. That’s the pressure. The pressure now is that you can overthink everything, from how it’s going to do and how people are going to perceive it, you, this and that. If you want to drive yourself crazy over that you can, but I think that’s why you put so much into it. So you can lay down at night and be okay with what you did and be like, you know what? I still wouldn’t change it. If you say I’m fucking shit, I still wouldn’t change it.” 3. Be picky. Taking on a blockbuster gig is a huge commitment, so make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. “Hopefully you feel that, you see it. You see the emotion and the energy that it takes to really do what it deserves, potentially. I think that’s what it’s about, and that’s why I’m so picky with the jobs. I’m all in. I’m never going to do a job for the sake of working. So we’re at a point now of looking at the next job, or whatever that is, and my people, my team, have been with me from Day One. If I don’t work for a year, I’m OK with it. We’re not going to do it unless we have to do it. “I was and still am okay with doing indies for the rest of my life. I don’t need to be in the spotlight; if anything, I’ll push it away even more. I live in Austin. I love the work. I love the storytelling, and that’s what the first meeting represented. I could play so many parts in this one character, from the Western, from the guy that doesn’t give a shit, to the guy who’s finally come full circle and become the leader that he’s pushed away for so long. I love that, and I love working with an Andrew Stanton, a Willem Dafoe, a Mark Strong, a Sam Morton, a Thomas Haden Church, a Lynn Collins.” 4. Make sure there is a “there” there. “Man, I will be shit if you give me nothing to play. Any actor will tell you, the more you can give me, the more depth I can escape into, the better it’s going to be on every level.” 5. Flawed characters are more interesting to play, and are worth diving into headfirst — even if it takes a lot out of you. “It’s not the war thing, but the more interesting guys I grew up watching — I like watching the more flawed guys than the perfect guys, and that’s more interesting for me to play. That’s more real to me. I love that and I love bringing people into a performance and it takes so fucking much out of you to do it honestly, but it’s worth it. Kev Carter – you won’t meet a guy more flawed. That crushed me.” 6. Remember to maintain balance with the emotional and physical demands of carrying a tentpole… especially when they require regular, long-term maintenance of action-hero muscles. “I was beyond exhausted in this film. Yeah, six day weeks is what killed me. I think I just pushed myself — I don’t regret it because you see it, but at times I could have had a better balance, maybe, just because waking up that early so often and the lack of sleep and pushing yourself that much, to have that much energy onscreen… for seven months, to be at that aesthetic! It’d be a lot easier if I had one shirtless scene and I could just get toned for that then be OK and balance it out, but it was 11 months that I was on that diet and training regimen. It’s very unreal to do that and to look that way, obviously, but it’s what I guess I demanded out of myself. This goes back to Kev [Carter, of the Bang Bang Club ], too. No one asked me to lose a pound, I wanted to. 7. That said, don’t worry too much about how you look, stud . “Fuck, man. You never want to be that conscious in a scene. That’d mean I’d be so totally out of John Carter mode, if I’m really that conscious of how I look and the lighting. That’s really bad. [But] you definitely have to do what you have to do to put yourself in the moment so it’s connecting to whatever it is. I think you’ve just got to get to a point where you’re okay with how you look and what you’re doing and you leave it and let it lay. Whatever it is, I look at that scene and it is what it is” 8. Go out for a role knowing it’s yours to lose. The audition process for John Carter was particularly grueling, with five actors and five actresses vying for the same roles over the course of two intense days. “Man, I was just so focused, I was so myopic with it. I prepped so much for that audition. I’ve always been an underdog and I came in on this gig that way, but it was like I felt it was mine to lose. I went in with that thinking really, if I can go in all out on this, I’m going to go in and kill it as much as I can. But it was a tough process, for sure. Two 14-hour days… and you’ve got to remember, what’s bizarre about getting roles and auditioning for the most part is you do your prep and everything for the most part after you get the role. It’s like OK, now I’ve got to sit down and really sketch this guy out. It’s a trip. “ 9. Whatever you do, do not go out partying the night before a big audition. “I won’t call the guy out, but I know and it gave me more oomph, put it that way, knowing that this one guy that was up for it was out partying quite hard the night before or two nights before. No matter what, I hear about that and I know I got ya, man. It’s like, good on ya for making it a little bit easier on me.” John Carter is in theaters this week. Read more on the film here .
