Liam Hemsworth Interested In Playing Peeta In ‘Hunger Games’

‘I read the script. It’s a really, really cool story,’ actor tells MTV News at Sundance. By Aly Semigran Liam Hemsworth Photo: MTV News Not since the adaptations of the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” sagas has there been as much buzz surrounding the casting of a beloved book headed for the big screen as there is right now for “The Hunger Games.” While most of the talk has been around who will play the story’s heroine, Katniss ( Hailee Steinfeld , Chloe Moretz and Elle Fanning are just a few of the actresses rumored to be vying for the part), many fans are wondering who will be cast as Katniss’ Hunger Games partner (and possible love interest) Peeta. MTV News caught up with Liam Hemsworth at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday (January 22), and it turns out the actor hasn’t just had his name thrown in the ring for consideration: He’s already read the script. “I read the script,” said the 21-year-old star, who was in Park City to go snowboarding with his older brother, actor Chris Hemsworth. “It’s a really, really cool story.” The actor, known to many as Miley Cyrus’ ex-boyfriend , expressed interest in the film, adding, “I love action … gritty kinda stuff like that.” For fans worried that the PG-13 adaptation will tone down the action in the book, Hemsworth said, “It’s super-dark. It’s all young kids in these Hunger Games, which are crazy, insane things.” Hemsworth, who described the project as “definitely something different,” says he could “possibly” see himself taking on the role of Peeta. While he hasn’t yet met or auditioned for the film’s director, Gary Ross, he told MTV, “I mean, it’s pretty early right now. … But, yeah, I’m sure I’ll meet [him] on it soon.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Bosnian Protesters Decry "Ignorant" Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has become the target of more criticism, this time regarding her feature directorial debut, not just her hatred of Thanksgiving . A love story set during the Bosnian War, her film was cut short after rumors that it portrayed a relationship between a rapist and his victim. The project has sparked protests and was called “ignorant” by a group of women who were victims of sexual violence during the 1990s war. In a letter to the United Nations refugee agency, for which the movie star is a goodwill ambassador, the Women Victims of War criticized her sharply. They say they are “deeply concerned about the movie.” “Angelina Jolie’s ignorant attitude towards victims says enough about the scenario and gives us the right to continue having doubts,” the letter read. After rumors of the rapist story line surfaced in October, a group of Bosnian War rape victims pressured officials to withdraw Jolie’s filming permit. The rumors proved to be untrue. The country’s minister of culture read the script – about a Bosnian woman who falls in love with a Serb man – and Jolie’s permit was reinstated. However, Jolie earlier this month cut the shooting schedule from 10 days to three and decided to film some of the scenes in Hungary instead. At the time, Jolie said she wanted to meet with the groups that complained to clear up any misunderstanding, but no meeting ever transpired. “We have insisted to meet Angelina Jolie since we don’t want to be wrongly presented in the world … Our voices are worthwhile and we should have got much more respect,” the WVW letter read. “Angelina has made a big mistake.” “We feel that she did not act like a real UNHCR ambassador and we believe that she has no more credibility to remain the ambassador.” Wait until that big Angelina Jolie drug video leaks!

‘Teen Wolf’ TV Series Is ‘Almost Nothing’ Like ’80s Film, Stars Say

‘We’ve got our own thing going on,’ Tyler Posey says of upcoming MTV show. By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Tyler Posey Photo: 3 Arts Entertainment Although we were distracted by the presence of powerhouse pop stars Justin Bieber, Drake and Lady Gaga on our fancy white carpet at Sunday’s VMAs , our supernatural senses kicked in when the three young stars of “Teen Wolf” swung by. The series, which is based on the original cult teen comedy made famous by star Michael J. Fox, was picked up by MTV earlier this year and is set to debut in 2011. “The shoes of Michael J. Fox are so big to fill, it’s just he did his own thing,” star Tyler Posey told MTV News of the inevitable comparisons between the reboot and the original. “We’re definitely doing our own thing. We are doing a remake of ‘Teen Wolf,’ but it’s almost nothing like the original movie. We’ve got our own thing going on.” “I think I’m more excited than nervous,” co-star Tyler Hoechlin added. “We’re excited to get going. [Creator] Jeff [Davis]’s been doing a great job setting it up for us, so we just have to go have fun.” Back in July, the boys dished a few more details about the show at San Diego Comic-Con . “When I first heard about the show, that they were doing ‘Teen Wolf,’ I was pretty stoked about it because I loved the movie,” Posey said. “My agents got me the audition for it, and I read the script, and it blew me away. It was completely unlike anything I have read. The script was awesome and it was one of the things I wanted the most out of anything, and I just worked hard and got it.” “I didn’t even know what ‘Teen Wolf’ was,” Dylan O’Brien admitted about originally signing on to the show. “I hadn’t seen the movie. I almost didn’t even go to the audition. Look at that.” “I think the thing we unanimously agree on is that the script was so strong, no matter what our assumptions were coming into it,” Hoechlin said. “After we read the script, it was immediately something we all wanted to be a part of very badly. I think each and every one of us is very grateful that we get a chance to work on it.” Are you looking forward to the new take on “Teen Wolf”? Let us know in the comments! Angelina Jolie’s ‘Gravity’ Role Reportedly Offered To Natalie Portman

Jolie dropped out of the sci-fi drama last week. By Adam Rosenberg Natalie Portman Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” premiered at the Venice Film Festival last week, and critics are still buzzing over the ballet-centric thriller and star Natalie Portman’s standout performance. Also in the news last week was Angelina Jolie’s departure from Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi drama “Gravity,” in which she was set to star alongside Robert Downey Jr. With the role vacated, a long list of potential replacements surfaced, including “Swan” star Portman. Now it seems that Portman may be the top choice to step in for Jolie. The young star received a formal offer from Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter . The next step is for her to read the script and make a decision. “Gravity” is an “$80 million [budgeted] 3D survival story,” which Cuaron will direct. The male and female leads play astronauts who are stranded after a disaster leaves their space station inoperable. Downey’s role is a small one in comparison to the one Portman is now up for — the story primarily revolves around her character’s desire to get back to Earth, where her daughter is waiting. Portman already has a 2011 jam-packed with work. She’ll be promoting three features — medieval stoner comedy “Your Highness,” romantic comedy “No Strings” and Marvel superhero summer blockbuster “Thor” — as well as continuing development on the adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” which David O. Russell is writing/directing and Portman will produce/star in. THR also reports that Terence Malick is after the young actress for a role in a “Jerry Lee Lewis-related project” that he is developing with Brad Pitt, and that Tom Stoppard is seeking her out for yet another project. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Star Nikki Reed Talks Exploring Rosalie’s Backstory

‘With ‘Breaking Dawn,’ we’re only going to go deeper into that,’ actress says of Rosalie’s history in next ‘Twilight’ installment. By Kara Warner Nikki Reed Photo: MTV News As avid book readers well know, once a movie studio decides to adapt a favorite novel into a feature film, certain changes occur. With regard to Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight Saga,” the filmmakers and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg have done their best to stay as true to the source material as possible. But one expository aspect that is lost from book to screen is the various backstories of the supporting characters. When MTV News recently caught up with actress Nikki Reed, who was out promoting her upcoming indie “Last Day of Summer,” she talked about the challenge of portraying Rosalie’s relatability for non-book readers, as well as making the most of her screen time. “I find that people who’ve read the books kind of understand Rosalie, and that’s been the biggest challenge with playing her — when you make this series, clearly it has to revolve around this epic love story,” Reed said of the big three: Edward (Robert Pattinson), Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner). “The rest of us are kind of fighting in the background to have any kind of moment. You’re always afraid that the moment you do have, you’ll overdo because you wanted to have something behind it,” she explained. “Even if it’s just a look or a sentence or a glance.” Reed said she was happy to explore some of Rosalie’s backstory in “Eclipse,” and that she hopes she’ll get to dive into a bit more of her vamp’s history in “Breaking Dawn.” “With ‘Breaking Dawn,’ we’re only going to go deeper into that. I haven’t read the script — I don’t know what it’s going to be like — but I think Melissa’s done a great job in keeping them pretty close to the books. I can’t think of anything we’ve missed in the films. I have faith that Bella and I are going to get really close.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Exclusive: ‘Batman 3’ Cinematographer Hopes To Shoot ‘Whole Movie In IMAX’

‘I like IMAX more than I like 3-D,’ says Wally Pfister, Christopher Nolan’s director of photography. By Eric Ditzian Christian Bale as Batman in “The Dark Knight” Photo: Warner Bros. Early on in the “Inception” preproduction process, director Christopher Nolan and director of photography Wally Pfister had a conversation that dragged on for weeks: After shooting a portion of “The Dark Knight” in IMAX, would they also shoot their Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller in the large-scale film format? “Finally I had to tell Chris that the way he was describing the film, so much of it wanted to be with a handheld camera and kind of running around,” Pfister told MTV News. “That’s just not physically possible with the IMAX camera. We ruled out shooting in IMAX.” Their thinking on how to shoot “Batman 3,” however, might turn out to be vastly different. “I can’t say until I read the script, but it would certainly be my preferred, amazing goal to shoot the whole movie in IMAX,” Pfister said. That sentiment jibes with rumors from last summer that suggested the next “Batman” could indeed be shot all in IMAX . At this point, though, Pfister is waiting to get his hands on the script and to find out when the threequel will shift into production. When it does, he’s hoping to work with IMAX cameras and hoping to avoid 3-D ones. “I must say I’m a huge IMAX fan. I like IMAX more than I like 3-D,” he explained. “Chris’ films are so densely layered and have so much going on visually in every way that IMAX helps enhance that because of the scope and the scale of it — it becomes a much larger canvas to paint on. That’s what we found on ‘Dark Knight.’ “I’m not a big fan of 3-D,” he continued. “I liken it to my View-Master I had 40 years ago. Are you really getting more out of the story with 3-D? When you separate those different planes and you’re creating artificial depth, it looks phony to me.” Nolan hasn’t jumped on the 3-D bandwagon either, saying in June, “I’m not a huge fan of 3-D.” Still, any decisions about how to shoot “Batman 3” will ultimately involve Warner Bros. and will certainly wait until Nolan and Pfister sit down and have a discussion similar to the one they had in the run-up to “Inception.” “We usually have lunch and he asks me, ‘Tell me what your thoughts are,’ ” Pfister said. “It’s very casual. It’s not very technical. And then we start to build toward, ‘How are we going to shoot this? Where are we going to shoot this?’ My preproduction is about four months long before principal photography begins. “I can’t imagine how we’re going to step it up [after ‘Inception’],” he added. “But we will.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Inception.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Chris Weitz Teases Eclipse as "Very Steamy"

Take this from someone in the know: Eclipse is gonna be hot! Chris Weitz, who directed New Moon , tells People magazine he’s read the script for the Twilight Saga’s third installment and fans will NOT be disappointed. Especially in one specific scene. “I’m looking forward to the sleeping bag scene, I gotta say,” Weitz said . “That’s going to be very steamy.” As readers of the book franchise know, Weitz is referring to the moment where a freezing Bella (on the run from Victoria) gets warmed up from Jacob… while Edward angrily, awkwardly, angrily looks on. The director also says he’s excited to see Elizabeth Reaser and Peter Facinelli get into the intense action of Eclipse . “I have a special interest in seeing Peter and Elizabeth tear people’s heads off,” Weitz said. “Knowing them, and how kind of kooky and delightful they are, I’m going to find seeing them being ultra-violent very interesting indeed.” Yeah. That’s fine and all. We just wanna see Taylor Lautner shirtless . Eclipse opens on June 30.
