Atlanta-based rap producer Shawty Redd has been found not guilty of a murder charge related to his 2010 New Year’s Day arrest. As we previously reported, Shawty Redd (born Demetrius Lee Stewart) was accused of shooting 35-year-old Damon A. Martin of Detroit during an argument at Stewart’s home in Hampton, located in Henry County. Henry County District Attorney Tommy Floyd told the AP that Redd was cleared of the murder charge Thursday after judge Wade Crumbley determined that the producer acted in self-defense. Redd has produced tracks for Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane and others. His breakthrough came when he produced Snoop Dogg’s 2007 hit single “Sexual Seduction.” RELATED: UPDATE: Shawty Redd Bond Set At $200K UPDATE: Shawty Redd Makes First Court Appearance On Murder Charge Producer Shawty Redd Turns Himself In After Homicide On New Years Day

Shawty Redd Cleared Of Murder Charges

Rap producer was charged in the fatal shooting of Damon Martin. By Rob Markman Shawty Redd in police custody on January 1, 2010 Photo: Henry County Sheriff’s Office Rap producer Shawty Redd can now put his legal troubles behind him. MTV News learned exclusively from Redd’s attorney Ashutosh Joshi on Thursday (November 3) that the Atlanta hitmaker has been found not guilty of murder, as well as lesser charges he was hit with after the fatal 2010 New Year’s Day shooting of Damon Martin. The bench trial, which began Monday, was decided by a judge without a jury and concluded Wednesday. On Thursday, Judge Wade Crumbly cleared the “Who Dat” producer (real name: Demetrius Lee Stewart) on all charges relating to Martin’s death. Redd was arrested January 1, 2010, after police responded to a call about an early morning shooting at Stewart’s home in Hampton, Georgia. According to police, the producer was involved in a physical altercation at his home with Martin, who was described as an “acquaintance.” The confrontation turned physical and Stewart shot and killed Martin, according to the report. Stewart himself called 911 to alert police about the shooting and was arrested a few hours later. “The defense [in the trial] was clearly self-defense,” Joshi told MTV News. “We argued that Redd’s life was threatened both verbally and physically, and this occurred in his home and that he shot this gentleman as a result of that.” Shawty Redd got his start producing a number of underground tracks for Young Jeezy, as well as six tracks from his platinum debut Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101. He got the most attention working with Snopp Dogg on his 2008 single “Sexual Eruption” and has also worked with Gucci Mane, Pusha T and Rick Ross. Related Artists Shawty Redd

Exclusive: ‘Batman 3’ Cinematographer Hopes To Shoot ‘Whole Movie In IMAX’

‘I like IMAX more than I like 3-D,’ says Wally Pfister, Christopher Nolan’s director of photography. By Eric Ditzian Christian Bale as Batman in “The Dark Knight” Photo: Warner Bros. Early on in the “Inception” preproduction process, director Christopher Nolan and director of photography Wally Pfister had a conversation that dragged on for weeks: After shooting a portion of “The Dark Knight” in IMAX, would they also shoot their Leonardo DiCaprio-starring thriller in the large-scale film format? “Finally I had to tell Chris that the way he was describing the film, so much of it wanted to be with a handheld camera and kind of running around,” Pfister told MTV News. “That’s just not physically possible with the IMAX camera. We ruled out shooting in IMAX.” Their thinking on how to shoot “Batman 3,” however, might turn out to be vastly different. “I can’t say until I read the script, but it would certainly be my preferred, amazing goal to shoot the whole movie in IMAX,” Pfister said. That sentiment jibes with rumors from last summer that suggested the next “Batman” could indeed be shot all in IMAX . At this point, though, Pfister is waiting to get his hands on the script and to find out when the threequel will shift into production. When it does, he’s hoping to work with IMAX cameras and hoping to avoid 3-D ones. “I must say I’m a huge IMAX fan. I like IMAX more than I like 3-D,” he explained. “Chris’ films are so densely layered and have so much going on visually in every way that IMAX helps enhance that because of the scope and the scale of it — it becomes a much larger canvas to paint on. That’s what we found on ‘Dark Knight.’ “I’m not a big fan of 3-D,” he continued. “I liken it to my View-Master I had 40 years ago. Are you really getting more out of the story with 3-D? When you separate those different planes and you’re creating artificial depth, it looks phony to me.” Nolan hasn’t jumped on the 3-D bandwagon either, saying in June, “I’m not a huge fan of 3-D.” Still, any decisions about how to shoot “Batman 3” will ultimately involve Warner Bros. and will certainly wait until Nolan and Pfister sit down and have a discussion similar to the one they had in the run-up to “Inception.” “We usually have lunch and he asks me, ‘Tell me what your thoughts are,’ ” Pfister said. “It’s very casual. It’s not very technical. And then we start to build toward, ‘How are we going to shoot this? Where are we going to shoot this?’ My preproduction is about four months long before principal photography begins. “I can’t imagine how we’re going to step it up [after ‘Inception’],” he added. “But we will.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Inception.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Jeezy says Thug Motivation 103 will be ‘special.’ By Shaheem Reid Young Jeezy Photo: MTV News Young Jeezy said getting Plies on his new record “Lose My Mind” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to guest spots on his upcoming LP, Thug Motivation 103. “I was hoping ‘Lose My Mind’ was gonna have people on [their toes], because there was no telling what I’m gonna do,” Jeezy said. “Let it be known, this album will be special and have some special features on it. I don’t wanna let the cat out the bag. “But June, by the way,” he said of the LP’s release date. “That’s what I’m thinking. If you the boss, you can talk like that. I’m thinking June. I wanna own the summer. If you coming out [with an album] in June, you might wanna think about that, bruh. TM103, I will be there.” Young has had sessions with producers from Kanye West to Swizz Beatz, but he promised that he’s going to have one of the guys who helped build the foundation of his sound: Shawty Redd. Redd was arrested on New Year’s Day for murder, but the producer’s legal problems have not stopped him from working with Young. “Ah, man. I don’t like to give it up,” he said when asked to explain one song on the album. “I got this song with Shawty Redd called ‘Let Me Handle My Business.’ The beat is … matter of fact, I’m not going to sell it like that. Shawty Redd, Young Jeezy, you know what it is. I’m just going in, basically handling my business. I gotta say what’s on my mind. But I’m not here to sell you on no album. Like I said, June, you will be surprised, homie. That’s real talk. I been working on this. I been back in the lab. … I got you.” Jeezy is currently on the road with Jay-Z and Trey Songz for the Blueprint 3 Tour. On Tuesday night, Jeezy stole the show, bringing out Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Drake as surprise guests.
