The family of Reeva Steenkamp is speaking out following the verdict in the Oscar Pistorius case after the athlete was found guilty of culpable homicide Friday. Their verdict: Justice was NOT served. By now you know how this relationship tragically, devastatingly ended. “This verdict is not justice for Reeva,” her mother, June Steenkamp, told NBC News in an interview. “I just want the truth… She died a horrible death.” “[It was] a horrible, painful, terrible death, and she suffered, you know? And he shot through the door and I can’t believe that they believe that it was an accident.” Her father, Barry Steenkamp, added, “it wasn’t just disbelief on our minds. I think it was disbelief on everyone’s, on most people who have been following the case.” “I just don’t feel that this is the right sentence, you know?” June Steenkamp added. “They believe his story, and I don’t believe that story. That’s the difference.” Pistorius was found not guilty of murder , the most serious offense he could have been charged with, as the judge felt the evidence did not support it. Oscar Pistorius Guilty of Culpable Homicide When NBC pressed the Steenkamps about what they think the sentence should be, June Steenkamp dismissed the question, saying they had no interest. “I really don’t care what happens to Oscar,” she said. “It’s not going to change anything because my daughter is never coming back. He’s still living and breathing you know, and she’s gone forever.” Pistorius’s conviction for culpable homicide, the equivalent of manslaughter, could still land him in prison for as many as 15 years … or no years. As with his trial, it’s the judge’s decision alone – South Africa has no jury trials – and he could be sent away for a long time, or fined or given house arrest or both. Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius’ slain girlfriend, allegedly sent text messages conveying her fear of the Olympic sprinter charged with her murder. Oscar Pistorius’ girlfriend told the South African athlete she was sometimes afraid of him, complaining that he had a short temper and was jealous. All this in the weeks before he killed her in February 2013, according to phone messages revealed at the Oscar Pistorius murder trial on Monday. “I’m scared of u sometimes and how u snap at me and of how u will react to me,” Reeva Steenkamp texted him, police Capt. Francois Moller said. In another message Steenkamp wrote: “I can’t be attacked by outsiders for dating u AND be attacked by you, the one person I deserve protection from.” Moller said that from Steenkamp’s phone he obtained more than 1,000 exchanges with Pistorius on WhatsApp and other phone messaging applications. Moller cited as evidence two BlackBerry phones, two iPhones, two iPads and a Mac from Pistorius’ house the day after he killed Reeva Steenkamp . Of the exchanges between the couple,about 90 percent were what he called normal, “loving” exchanges. The other 10, however, are ominous. In Steenkamp’s text about being scared of the athlete, she even added: “You make me happy 90 percent of the time and I think we are amazing together.” She goes on to talk about Pistorius snapping at her about chewing gum and talking in an accent, and then writes: “I just want to love and be loved.” “Be happy and make someone SO happy. Maybe we can’t do that for each other. Cos right now I know u aren’t happy and I am certainly very unhappy and sad.” Oscar Pistorius Text Messages: Jealous, Critical The long message was sent after the two attended a friend’s engagement party and apparently left early because she said he got upset and jealous. As Moller read the message, Pistorius, who vomited in court last week and had been looking at a book of the compiled messages, closed his eyes. His face became red, and tears fell to his lap. He wiped his eyes with a white handkerchief and regained the composure he held through most of the day. In other jarring testimony, Moller also read messages exchanged after a shooting incident at a Tashas restaurant about a month before the fatal shooting. Boxer Kevin Lerena and Darren Fresco said Pistorius asked Fresco to take the blame for a shot fired after a loaded gun was passed to Pistorius under the table. In the phone message exchange, the 27-year-old runner told Steenkamp: “Angel, please don’t say a thing to anyone … the guys promised not to say a thing.” She then replied: “I have no idea what you’re talking about ” Investigators tried to access information on Pistorius’s locked iPhone for months and met Apple officials in the U.S. just before the trial started March 3. Pistorius said he forgot the password to his phone. Earlier Monday, a neighbor testified that she heard gunshots and screams from a man and a woman on the night that the double amputee fatally shot Steenkamp. According to Pistorius’s version of events, he thought Steenkamp was in bed when he fired his 9 mm pistol at who be believed was an intruder in his home.

Oscar Pistorius threw up in court today, often, as a pathologist detailed the injuries Reeva Steenkamp sustained when Oscar shot her through a locked door . The Olympic track star, currently on trial for murder, was given a bucket to vomit into during the testimony in South Africa, and he used it quite frequently. Oscar Pistorius Throws Up in Court When he wasn’t booting, Oscar Pistorius was seen rocking back and forth in his seat, crying and covering his ears with his hands throughout the testimony. The graphic testimony was pretty gruesome stuff by any measure. Professor Gert Saayman detailed the bullet wounds he found on Reeva Steenkamp , Pistorius’ girlfriend who he killed on Valentine’s Day 2013, following her death. The prosecution witness testified in detail about how the 29-year-old model was shot on the top of the head, in the right elbow, in the right hip and left hand. The judge asked Pistorius’ lawyer if he was going to be able to compose himself and stay in court. Oscar said he wanted to continue … and was allowed to stay. Saayman said the head wound incapacitated Steenkamp immediately, which isn’t surprising, given the hardcore ammo used by the man who gunned her down. He also said the bullets used by Pistorius, who claims he mistook her for an intruder, were Black Talons, the kind that “expand and mushroom” on impact. The 27-year-old Olympian faces life in prison if convicted.

For Oscar Pistorius, the beloved athlete who went from inspiration to murder suspect, Valentine’s Day 2014 marks the one-year anniversary of his girlfriend’s death. The South African, a double amputee who became a global sensation at the 2012 London Olympics, has been charged with the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. The 27-year-old wrote Friday in a statement: “No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved – and continues to love Reeva.” “The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day … the pain and sadness, especially for Reeva’s parents, family and friends, consumes me with sorrow. ” “I will carry with me for the rest of my life.” Oscar Pistorius will stand trial on March 3. The track star faces the charge of premeditated murder , which carries a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison. Pistorius repeatedly denied the allegation, claiming he mistook Reeva Steenkamp for an intruder when he shot her four times through a locked bathroom door. A judge will deliver a verdict in the case, as there is no trial by jury in South Africa. Pistorius, who is out on bail, also faces charges of firing a gun in a public space.
Oscar Pistorius won a battle in court today, but his rep followed it up by assuring the public: The Olympian and suspected killer will NOT be attempting to win any track and field races in the near future. A judge eased the runner’s bail restrictions this morning, giving Pistorius permission to leave the country in order to perform his sport. The 26-year old sprinter would simply need to run those plans by officials at least a week prior to any event. However… “Oscar does not intend to compete,” his rep said in a statement. “He merely challenged the travel restrictions imposed, since he was not considered a flight risk during the bail hearing. At this point in time there are no plans for him to travel at all.” Pistorius is accused of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp by firing multiple shots through the bathroom door behind which she was hiding. He is free awaiting trial on a premeditated murder charge. Uhhhh…*raises eyebrow* Oscar Pistorius To Hold Private Memorial For Reeva Steenkamp According to TMZ reports : Oscar Pistorius is planning a private memorial service to honor his girlfriend, whom he shot and killed on Valentine’s Day. The memorial for 29-year-old Reeva Steenkamp is scheduled to take place tonight at the home of Oscar’s uncle, where the Olympic sprinter has been staying since he was released on bail last week. Oscar’s rep released a statement, saying, “Oscar specifically requested the memorial service as he continues to grieve and remains in deep mourning for the loss of his partner Reeva.” The rep adds, “Since it is such a sensitive issue, Oscar has asked for a private service with people who share his loss, including his family members who knew and loved Reeva as one of their own.” Sorry, but we can’t help but think this “private service” is all part of Tink Tink’s plan to convince people he didn’t bust a couple caps in his lady.
