Reeva Steenkamp Family: Oscar Pistorius Verdict is NOT Justice!

The family of Reeva Steenkamp is speaking out following the verdict in the Oscar Pistorius case after the athlete was found guilty of culpable homicide Friday. Their verdict: Justice was NOT served. By now you know how this relationship tragically, devastatingly ended. “This verdict is not justice for Reeva,” her mother, June Steenkamp, told NBC News in an interview. “I just want the truth… She died a horrible death.” “[It was] a horrible, painful, terrible death, and she suffered, you know? And he shot through the door and I can’t believe that they believe that it was an accident.” Her father, Barry Steenkamp, added, “it wasn’t just disbelief on our minds. I think it was disbelief on everyone’s, on most people who have been following the case.” “I just don’t feel that this is the right sentence, you know?” June Steenkamp added. “They believe his story, and I don’t believe that story. That’s the difference.” Pistorius was found not guilty of murder , the most serious offense he could have been charged with, as the judge felt the evidence did not support it. Oscar Pistorius Guilty of Culpable Homicide When NBC pressed the Steenkamps about what they think the sentence should be, June Steenkamp dismissed the question, saying they had no interest. “I really don’t care what happens to Oscar,” she said. “It’s not going to change anything because my daughter is never coming back. He’s still living and breathing you know, and she’s gone forever.” Pistorius’s conviction for culpable homicide, the equivalent of manslaughter, could still land him in prison for as many as 15 years … or no years. As with his trial, it’s the judge’s decision alone – South Africa has no jury trials – and he could be sent away for a long time, or fined or given house arrest or both. Go ahead and keep dissing  Kendall Jenner for her breast-exposed runway debut last night. Scoff at  Khloe Kardashian’s claim that haters are just jealous of her little sister. According to TMZ insiders, the Kardashians are on the verge of signing a $40 million deal that will keep their reality show on the air beyond 11 seasons… and make every family member even richer than they are now. Oscar Pistorius Mourns Reeva Steenkamp One Year After Killing Her

For Oscar Pistorius, the beloved athlete who went from inspiration to murder suspect, Valentine’s Day 2014 marks the one-year anniversary of his girlfriend’s death. The South African, a double amputee who became a global sensation at the 2012 London Olympics, has been charged with the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. The 27-year-old wrote Friday in a statement: “No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved – and continues to love Reeva.” “The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day … the pain and sadness, especially for Reeva’s parents, family and friends, consumes me with sorrow. ” “I will carry with me for the rest of my life.” Oscar Pistorius will stand trial on March 3. The track star faces the charge of premeditated murder , which carries a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison. Pistorius repeatedly denied the allegation, claiming he mistook Reeva Steenkamp for an intruder when he shot her four times through a locked bathroom door. A judge will deliver a verdict in the case, as there is no trial by jury in South Africa. Pistorius, who is out on bail, also faces charges of firing a gun in a public space.

Rush Limbaugh: Ashamed of America!

You’ve done it now, Democrats. You’ve made Rush Limbaugh officially “ashamed” to be an American. That’s how the conservative radio host described himself yesterday when ranting about the budget sequestration, an issue President Obama says could cripple the economy if Congress can’t strike a deal before next month. Limbaugh believes that argument from Obama – who said yesterday that love of rich people binds the GOP together – is an “insult” to his “common sense and intelligence.” Rush Limbaugh: Ashamed of His Country “Here they come… sucking us in, roping us in,” Limbaugh said. “Panic here, fear there, crisis, destruction, no meat inspection, no cops, no teachers, no firefighters, no air traffic control. I’m sorry, my days of getting roped into all of this are over.” Limbaugh also believes The Dark Knight Rises is a liberal conspiracy .

Oscar Pistorius Bail: Why Was it Granted?

Olympic track star Oscar Pistorius is free on bail pending his murder trial in South Africa after a judge’s ruling that surprised many. Why was he let out? Pistorius is free on bail – set randomly at $112,771 – despite shooting his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to death on Valentine’s Day in his home. Yes, he’s presumed innocent in a court of law, but the grisly nature of the crime made bail seem unlikely, whether you buy his defense or not. The judge’s rationale for cutting the athlete loose was several-fold: It is highly unlikely Oscar Pistorius would flee the country, given his fame. As a double amputee, even if he tried to, airport security would stop him. The prosecutors didn’t prove that Pistorius has a propensity for violence. Most significantly, prosecutors’ charge of premeditation is questionable. Before ruling, the judge asked the state an interesting question: If Pistorius is lying when he says he thought his girlfriend an intruder , as police allege, why didn’t he “stage” a break-in to make his story more believable? The prosecutor had to concede that point somewhat, noting, “The fact that we have only one survivor of that tragic night is difficult for the state.” The prosecutor argued, however, that proving premeditation doesn’t mean Pistorius had to plan the murder the night before, or even hours before. “He planned it that night when she locked herself in [the bathroom],” the prosecutor said, while Pistorius’ attorney argued that the charge is dubious. Pistorius’ lawyer suggested that the charge should be lowered to “culpable homicide” — meaning the Olympian didn’t have the intent to kill Reeva Steenkamp . The athlete’s camp insists it was a “tragic mistake.” In a few months, a jury will have to decide that.

Oscar Pistorius: Free on Bail in Murder Case

Oscar Pistorius was awarded bail on Friday after being charged with murdering his girlfriend. He will be free, pending his trial in a few months’ time. The ruling by Magistrate Desmond Nair was cheered by Pistorius’ family and supporters at the Pretoria magistrate’s court; the athlete himself was unmoved. The bail decision followed days of dramatic testimony about how the athlete killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his luxury home on Valentine’s Day. Prosecutors said Oscar Pistorius committed murder when he fired four shots into a locked bathroom door, hitting his girlfriend cowering on the other side. Steenkamp, 29, suffered gunshot wounds to her head, hip and arm. Pistorius’ defense team argued the killing was a tragic mistake, saying the athlete had mistaken her for an intruder , a notion police have scoffed at. In any case, his attorneys said he was too famous to pose a flight risk and deserved bail to prepare for a case that has drawn worldwide attention. A judge agreed, and he will be released pending his trial , which is unlikely to start for several months. It is unclear what amount he was required to post. Olympic and Paralympic star Pistorius, a double amputee who runs races on a pair of carbon-fiber blades, faces life in prison if convicted of murder. The shooting and allegations at the bail hearing stunned the millions around the world who saw his track glory as an inspiring tale of triumph over adversity.

The last Jedi standing recently opened up to ET about his possible return to Star Wars in Episode VII, and weighed in on many other topics regarding the film. Hamill says there aren’t any deals in place for himself, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford returning to Star Wars yet, but Lucasfilm is negotiating with them. “They’re talking to us,” Hamill said, and they have for some time. “George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts.” “I can tell you right away that we haven’t signed any contracts. We’re in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer.” “They want us to meet Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings that were postponed – on their end, not mine. They’re more busy than I am.” What does Hamill, now 61, think Star Wars: Episode VII holds for Luke Skywalker, the character he made iconic more than three decades ago? “I’m assuming, because I haven’t talked to the writers, that these movies would be about our offspring … like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range.” “[Luke would be] an older, influential character.” “When I found out [while making the original trilogy] the ultimate good news/bad news joke – the good news is there’s a real attractive, hot girl in the universe. The bad news is she’s your sister – I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to wind up like Sir Alec [Guinness]. I’m going to be a lonely old hermit living out in some kind of desert igloo with a couple of robots.'” He also has some reservations about returning without his costars, and about the new trilogy and any Star Wars spinoffs being too reliant on CGI. “Another thing I’d want to make sure of is are we going to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie and Harrison and Billy Dee and Tony Daniels, everybody that’s around?” “I want to make sure everybody’s on board here, rather than just one.” “I also said to George that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and lighthearted and humorous.” “In my opinion, anyway… I hope they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects. I love props, I love models, miniatures, matte paintings ̬ I’m sort of old school.” “I think if you go too far it winds up looking like just a giant a video game, and that’s unfortunate…. If they listen to me, I’d say, ‘Lighten up and go retro with the way it looks.'”
