Judge Greg Mathis Donates 50,000 Bottles Of Water To Flint Schools

J udge Greg Mathis is furthering his efforts to help individuals impacted by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. According to NBC News , the Detroit native recently donated 50,000 bottles of water to the city’s students. The 50,000 bottles of water will be dispersed to schools throughout Flint on Monday. Mathis has also teamed up with AquaTru to provide nine water filtration systems to charter schools in the city. He believes that no parent should be put in a position to risk their child’s health due to the lack of accessibility to clean water. He added that if government officials aren’t going to rectify the situation, then individuals like himself will step up. “It’s difficult to win the confidence of the citizens that you have allowed to be harmed,” he said. “If you wouldn’t risk it for your children, don’t ask these parents to risk it for theirs.” This isn’t the first donation that Mathis has made. Last year, he sent thousands of cases of water to Flint residents. News about Mathis’ donation comes after 12-year-old activist Amariyanna Copeny⁠ —who is known Little Miss Flint⁠—raised over $130,000 to create a long-term sustainable solution to the water crisis by bringing state-of-the-art water filters to underserved communities. The implementation of the water filters would give individuals the ability to have safe running water within their households. Earlier this year, rapper and actor Jaden Smith ’s eco-friendly natural spring water brand JUST Goods Inc. teamed up with Flint’s First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church to implement a system called “The Water Box” which reduces lead and other toxic chemicals in contaminated water. The organization hosted events at Neuehouse and other locations throughout Manhattan as well as an Awards Gala where individuals like MJ Rodriguez showed up in style . Attendees to the festival, however, got a star studded surprise when Kanye West stepped on stage. He spoke about sustainable fashion , bringing jobs back to the U.S. via Yeezy and more. The crowd of more than 500 people were engaged and interested in what the rapper turned fashion designer had to say. He was alongside Yeezy sneaker designer Steven Smith, who showed off the latest Yeezy sneakers that are made out of algae. Kanye West will be running for president in 2024 and in the meantime, he will be creating jobs within the next two years via his Yeezy Headquarters. The headquarters are being moved to Cody, Wyoming, where West bought a $14 million, 4,000 acre ranch in September to house his operations. Smith co-signed the operation stating, “People thought Ye was blowing smoke two weeks ago when he said that. We’re going to start manufacturing in the U.S. We’re going to bring jobs back here. We’re going to make Yeezys in America.” Yeezy headquarters will be focused on sustainable practices in fashion, but it was not confirmed he will be making them on the property. Roommate, Boyfriend Charged With Murder In Alexis Crawford Death

Source: Atlanta Police Department / Via APD Barron Brantley and his girlfriend Jordyn Jones have been charged in the killing of Clark Atlanta University student and Jones’ roommate Alexis Crawford , days after Crawford reported Brantley for unwanted kissing and touching. One of the pair led investigators to the body of the missing 21-year-old CAU student in a Dekalb County park on Friday. A medical examiner concluded that Crawford died of asphyxiation. RELATED:  Missing Clark Atlanta Student Found Dead, Roommate Suspected In Murder “I am so truly sorry that we could not provide you with a better ending,” Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields said, addressing her words to Crawford’s family. Crawford was reported missing on October 30, days after she filed the report against Brantley. She and Jones were “not on speaking terms” according to the report for an unrelated incident. Crawford had also begun sleeping on the couch as opposed to her bedroom since the incident with Brantley where Jones said she later discovered Crawford with “cut panties.” Brantley denied sleeping with Crawford but Crawford reported that Brantley had kissed her neck and grabbed her shoulder at a party, mistaking her for his girlfriend.

Because of this news, conversations have started around whether or not this is a good idea–and Cardi B , someone whose built their career off of the platform, has something to say. According to the rapper, there are much bigger problems than likes. “It’s a big ruckus right now that the likes on Instagram are getting taken away,” she said in an Instagram post on Friday. “This is my opinion on it, right? So from the beginning of Instagram, we had likes. And I feel like in the beginning of Instagram, everything was so fun, people wanted to post their pictures, get likes … where I think that Instagram got a little nasty, and it just took a weird turn, was when people started to like the comments, when they were allowed to like comments or reply back to somebody’s comments.” View this post on Instagram This is just my opinion….I mean what makes you feel more insecure getting no likes or people constantly giving opinions about you ,your life and topics? what you think IG should do ? Some people don’t have a life…I see a lot of people dedicate they time into sayin’ some of the craziest, most absurd shit on comments, just for likes and comments back. And I feel like that’s what’s messing up Instagram.” But there’s not only people who express too much of their own opinion on the platform. According to Cardi, the comment section has kept some fans from expressing their views because they might not want to risk getting attacked over a difference in opinion. “If anything is affecting Instagram right now, it’s the way the comments have been done or have been changing these past few years,” she said. “I feel people been sayin’ the most weirdest shit, been starting the craziest arguments, been starting to race bait … because they want to get to the top, they want to get the most reactions. And that’s what I feel: The comments effect more than the likes.” While Cardi has a point, users on Instagram do have the option of turning off comments on their posts is they so choose–but is that enough? Or should the platform do away with comments all together?

The rapper’s second annual ASTROWORLD Festival took place on Saturday, November 9 in his hometown of Houston, Texas. Along with hosting the whole event, Travis also headlined the festival, performing for the 50,000 + people expected to attend. While he was on stage getting sentimental about the second year of his very own festival, he took the time out to thank those who helped him get here. Among those people: his baby mama and their daughter. Even though these two supposedly broke up back in October, it’s not too surprising that Kylie would bring Stormi to the festival anyway to supervise as she supports her dad. Laurel Griggs, Beloved Broadway Star, Dies at 13

Shocking and truly awful news from the entertainment industry this weekend: Laurel Griggs, an up-and-coming Broadway actress who also appeared twice on Saturday Night Live, died back on November 5. She was 13 years old. At this time, it’s unknown what the cause of her death was, although, a funeral service was held on November 8, according her Dignity Memorial page. Griggs made her Broadway debut in 2013 at age six as Polly in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She’s best known for her role in ONCE opposite Scarlett Johansson, which she performed for 17 months between 2013 and 2015. The play earned a Tony Award. Griggs also starred in the 2016 film Café Society, which also featured Steve Carell, Kristen Stewart and Blake Lively to name a few major names. Moreover, she appeared on Saturday Night Live on two separate occasions. Actress Eliza Holland Madore, who portrayed Ivanka in ONCE expressed her devastation as follows: “I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of one of my Ivanka sisters. Laurel – you were always smiling and always made other people laugh.” She continued: I’m so incredibly grateful that I got to know you. You will never be forgotten, and we will never stop loving you. Everybody in the Once Family is going to keep you alive through us. R.I.P. My heart goes to her family. Following news of Griggs’ passing, Young Broadway’s Twitter account shared a tribute to the rising star: We are saddened to share that Laurel Griggs passed away this week at the age of 13. Laurel was a brilliant young lady who appeared on Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Once. We send our condolences to her loved ones at this difficult time. UPDATE : A Facebook account appearing to belong to Griggs’ grandfather says that the young actress died of a massive asthma attack. “The world lost a real princess who only wanted to make the future happy for all,” this grandfather, David Rivlin, said adding: “Acting was a just a childhood dream come true and she had big plans for the future.” Laurel Griggs, seen here on Saturdya Night Live, has passed away at 13. So Sad: Marquis Jefferson, Father Of Atatiana Jefferson, Dies From Heart Attack

House / Getty Marquis Jefferson, Father Of Atatiana Jefferson, Dies The father of the Fort Worth woman who was gunned down by a police officer in her home has unfortunately passed away. A family spokesperson confirmed that Marquis Jefferson, 58, suffered a heart attack and died Saturday night at Methodist Charlton Medical Center. “Less than a month ago, he was working at El Centro, mentoring kids twice a week,” family spokesman Bruce Carter told KXAS-TV (Channel 5). “He just couldn’t get back from what happened with his daughter.” Marquis Jefferson first made headlines when he filed a restraining order to put a stop to his daughter’s funeral that was planned without him. The funeral was rescheduled and held October 24. As previously reported 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed Oct. 12 in her home while she was playing video games with her nephew. The officer who killed her now faces a murder charge. This is all so, so, sad. Our condolences go out to the whole Jefferson family.

Update: Clark Atlanta Student Alexis Crawford Died Of Asphyxiation, Roommate & Roommate’s Boyfriend In Custody

As previously reported after a week’s search, Alexis’ body was found and her roommate and the roommate’s boyfriend were taken into custody. Now according to WSB TV , Alexis’ cause of death has been revealed as asphyxiation. Alexis’ roommate 21-year-old Jordyn Jones, is charged with malice murder. Jone’s boyfriend Barron Brantley, who is also charged in Crawford’s death, was booked Friday night. The motive for Alexis’ murder is unclear but authorities report that she filed a complaint against Brantley three days before she disappeared accusing him of “unwanted touching and kissing” inside the apartment she shared with Jones. According to the police report, “the victim stated that the suspect rubbed his hand on her shoulder and kissed her on the neck. The victim stated that she asked the suspect what was he doing and he stated he thought she was Ms. Jones.” Baron Brantley was previously charged with robbery and has been arrested multiple times for family violence and cruelty to children Roommate now in custody, charged with murder of Clark Atlanta student https://t.co/ttzqR195eM pic.twitter.com/hqDObiVnYb — WSB-TV (@wsbtv) November 10, 2019 Both suspects were being held without bond at the Fulton County Jail.
