Rutgers Football Player Leonte Carroo Arrested After Fight Between Girlfriend And Mistress This is some s#!t straight out of a Mona Scott Young Show… Rutgers University wide receiver Leonte Carroo, his mother, his side piece and he father all caught charges after a Love & Hip-Hop-esque fight popped off outside the school’s football complex. Leonte’s momma, Lavern Carroo, 41, was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. Additionally, Maria Vega, a school employee, and her father, Juan Vega, were hit with charges related to the fade. According to the police report, there was some hair-pulling and face slapping. Again, very reminiscent of Mona’s signature style. Via NJ Police have accused Leonte Carroo of slamming a woman to a concrete surface outside of the Hale Center after the team’s loss to Washington State on Sept. 12, according to a complaint filed in Piscataway municipal court. He was charged with simple assault in a domestic violence incident. A day after the altercation, Carroo was suspended indefinitely from the team and on Sept. 14 he pleaded not guilty to simple assault. Carroo reportedly was intervening in an altercation between two women he has been romantically involved with. It’s believed that Maria Vega had a romantic relationship with Carroo. Juan Vega’s relationship to Maria is unclear. Both are from Fort Lee. The alleged victim worked for the Rutgers football program as a recruiting ambassador, multiple people with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media last week. Mike Rice has been fired by Rutgers University. The move came one day after footage surfaced of Rice berating his players at practice, throwing basketball at their heads and hurling insults their way after perceived mistakes. Mike Rice Flips Out as Rutgers Players In an email today, the school referred to new information and “a review of previously discovered issues” as the basis for Rice’s termination. “I am responsible for the decision to attempt a rehabilitation of Coach Rice,” said athletic director Tim Pernetti. “Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December, and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong. Moving forward, I will work to regain the trust of the Rutgers community.” The Scarlet Knights finished 15-16 this season and 5-13 in the league. “There will never be a time when I use any of that as an excuse,” Rice said in an interview outside his house. “I’ve let so many people down. My players, my administration, Rutgers University, the fans. My family, who’s sitting in their house just huddled around because of the fact that their father was an embarrassment to them… “”I’m deeply sorry for the pain and the hardship that I’ve caused.”

Effing Snooki. That’s pretty much the attitude taken by a New Jersey State Senator who is not pleased about a fee given to the Jersey Shore star (a.k.a. Nicole Polizzi) to speak at Rutgers. So not pleased, he’s trying to pass a law to prevent an encore. State Sen. Joe Kyrillos doesn’t think Snooki is worth the $32,000 speaking fee she earned to dish on GTL at the state-funded school. His remedy? He wants students attending public colleges to have the right to opt in or opt out of funding entertainment such as this by instituting mandatory activity fees. Last week, effing Snooki was paid $2,000 more than the $30,000 Rutgers will play Nobel-winning writer Toni Morrison to deliver the commencement address. The Republican lawmaker says he’s certain there were many Rutgers students who were uninterested at best or “flat out outraged” at worst by Snooki’s fee. We’re guessing he won’t be watching Snooki’s Jersey Shore spinoff . [Photo: WENN.com]

MC leads off CBS’ kickoff show with ‘Run This Town’ intercut with football footage. Jay-Z Photo: CBS Jay-Z is not one to let an event like Superbowl XLIV pass without leaving his mark, and on Sunday (February 7), the MC kicked off CBS’ Super Bowl kickoff show accompanied by the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra for a “Posthumous Zone” version of “Run This Town,” from last year’s Blueprint 3 LP. Opening with a single pianist on a Steinway, the song began with Rihanna’s recorded voice singing the song’s hook, then showed Jay walking into a gothic room with high ceilings and the black-clad orchestra packed onto a stage. Jay, wearing a cool tux with no tie, performed his verse while holding the golden Super Bowl trophy high, as action clips of both teams scrolled behind him. The song continued, cutting between footage of Jay at the orchestra’s helm, football footage and action-heavy shots of the orchestra members performing. The clip was shot in New York last Tuesday and featured approximately 65 musicians from the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra and the Rutgers Sinfonia, according to the Rutgers University Web site and MyCentralJersey.com . Maestro Kynan Johns said the school was approached about the job last month, presumably because the composer of the piece had previously worked with the Rutgers marching band. “It’s a totally different part of the performing arts,” said Johns, director of orchestras at Rutgers’ Mason Gross School of the Arts. “For classical musicians, it’s not really what we teach and not really what we do. I think [it was valuable for] the students to see how another side of the performing arts industry goes about their work, and the amount of detail they go into for just two minutes.” Johns said last week’s video shoot would help his students to see that “it takes a lot of time to get pop music to that level.” George B. Stauffer, Mason Gross’ dean, said last week, “We’re extraordinarily proud to have our students rubbing elbows — and touching knuckles — with Jay-Z,” he says. Melissa Healy, a flautist and doctoral student, told MyCentralJersey.com that it was an honor to work with Jay-Z. “There are a lot of people out there who are really good performers but are not actually that talented,” she said. “To get to work with an artist of that caliber is rare.” Related Artists Jay-Z
