Source: Steven Ferdman / Getty Hustlers is officially in theaters! With a diverse star-studded cast that includes Jennifer Lopez , Constance Wu , Lili Reinhart , Keke Palmer , and introduces Cardi B and Lizzo to the big screen, you’ll surely be entertained! The true epitome of the saying, “Art imitates life,” Cardi B gives us a taste of her past as a stripper in this role. Her character, Diamond, hails from The Bronx, is quick-witted and never passes up on an opportunity to tell it like it is (lol). Also, we have to mention how radiant her skin looks on screen! Sporting a chic glow, we couldn’t help but wonder how the rapper was able to achieve the look. According to Refinery29 , all the credit goes to Cardi B’s go-to stylist Erika La Pearl! She tells the publication that she relyed on the Pond’s Nourishing Moisturizing Cream ($7.49, riteaid.com ) to give Cardi a natural, yet radiant glow. “It keeps the body hydrated but not too greasy or oily,” she tells Refinery29. In an effort to give Cardi’s skin an illuminating finish, she followed up with MAC’s Iridescent Powder in Golden Bronze to make her glisten. “I applied a lot of this all over her body with a brush, so when the set lights hit, her skin would be like bam !” She continued, “Cardi was very laid-back and trusted me to create her look for Hustlers, ” Erika says. “We had only one day to film all of her scenes, so she came in, closed her eyes, and let me get to work.” Erika has never missed a beat when it comes to creating a flawless face for the star, so it’s no surprise that the rapper brought her along for her on-screen debut. While it’s easy to think that celebrity MUA’s utilize high-priced beauty products to create beauty looks, this proves yet again that you can use drug store items to create a head-turning look! The fact that the Pond’s Nourishing Mositurizing Cream is under $8.00 makes this an affordable find we all need to add in our beauty arsenals. Specially formulated to nourish the skin for up to 24 hours without clogging your pores, it truly doesn’t get any better than this! Will you be picking up the Pond’s Nourishing Moisturizing Cream? Source: Mike Coppola / Getty The lifestyle of a Hollywood star like Lala Anthony is a busy one. From filming projects, stepping out for press appearances, working on her fashion line and juggling the full-time job as a mom, it’s all quite the whirlwind. So, while the star is known for her amazing beauty and fashion moves, it’s not that surprising that she is guilty of one of the biggest makeup faux pas. As a matter of fact, we are all guilty of it, but knowing that Lala also forgets to take off her makeup at night lets us know that celebrities are just like us. In a recent interview with ESSENCE , the Power actress revealed that sometimes she’s so tired that removing the day’s makeup can become a low priority. “I was so tired last night,” Lala shares with ESSENCE . “I woke up and Ashley was in the room. She said ‘you didn’t take your makeup off from last night?’ But I was so tired, but I’m not advising that,” she said. “I got to get better at it.” She continued, “I have to do a better job at my skincare routine . My best friend, Kelly Rowland , is the master at all of that,” she said. “She’s constantly sending me products and every time we FaceTime, she has a mask on and then a whole beauty light or an LED light on her face. I haven’t gotten that far yet but I want to encourage all my people to make sure you do wash your face every night and take all the makeup off.” And she is absolutely right! Failing to take off your makeup at night can result in dirt and debris clogging your pores and forming blemishes. You always run the risk of your complexion appearing dull, getting an infection, developing a rash and even breaking down your skin barrier and prematurely aging your skin. Are you also guilty of not removing your makeup before bedtime? Let us know in the comment section down below! Although this isn’t her natural color, the white hair gives Whoopi an edgy, fun look. I know it’s for a role, but hopefully she’ll embrace the style and keep it in for a while. It’s good to see Whoopi back to work, full throttle. Back in February she was hospitalized due to a bad case of pneumonia. She later disclosed that her hospital stint was a near-death experience. With lots of rest and some time off, she was able to return the big screen. In May she launched a clothing line named Dubgee by Whoopi, a collection of clothes that is designed to makes you look and feel good. Now she is prepping for Stephen King’s limited series “ The Strand .” This new hairstyle is a testament that if and when the mogul decides to let the greys hang out, it’ll be a good look for her. Source: katleho Seisa / Getty When it comes to self-care and beauty routines, one of the most underserved (and under-discussed) beauty areas is our underarms. Nevertheless, we come in contact with them every day from washing to applying our deodorants or anti-perspirants. I had the opportunity to speak with Dove Dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba to help debunk one of the biggest misconceptions occurring in the beauty and medical world surrounding anti-perspirants. Personally, I started using natural deodorant because I didn’t want to pour any toxins into my body or prevent my body from sweating. I feel like sweating is normal and releasing toxins need to happen. I had hopes but it left me funky and continuously worrying if I was giving off an odor. When you use an anti-perspirant, it prevents your body from sweating. Dr. Barba explained, “Antiperspirants have a clinically active ingredient: aluminum chloride slats. Basically what it does is form a little plug on the pore where the sweat gland drains into. It forms a plug so you don’t have sweat on the surface of the underarm. When you don’t have sweat, then bacteria doesn’t grow.” When bacteria doesn’t grow, then you don’t have that unfavorable odor. Nevertheless, I was worried about cancer. I had heard multiple rumors surrounding breast cancer and anti-perspirants. Dr. Barba educated, “Anti-perspirants have never been proven to cause cancer. They are regulated as an over the counter drug. The FDA regulates these products. It’s not like we can just put whatever in an anti-perspirant. It’s been studied thoroughly and has never been linked.” However, if you are like me, I feel your body is supposed to sweat. If you want this, then just use a deodorant. Dr. Barba explained, “If you don’t have a problem with smell, you can get away with a deodorant.” A deodorant will just leave you fresh smelling but allow your body to sweat. If you’re also like me and despite what the FDA says, still worried about aluminum, you can get a deodorant with 0% aluminum ($5.99, target.com ). There are tons of great smelling anti-perspirants like Dove Dry Spray Go Fresh Antiperspirant Deodorant in Apple and White Tea ($5.58. walmart.com ) – the apple scent is great for Fall! This option is also great for people who sweat profusely and want to minimize this in an over the counter manner. What do you prefer? Do you use anti-perspirants or deodorants? Why or Why not? Source: #ScoopStyle x Walmart / Courtesy of Walmart Fashionistas everywhere were devastated when New York brand ‘Scoop’ closed it’s doors. The iconic brand was beloved by celebrities and their boutiques were known for housing up and coming brands. Well, Scoop is back and re-entering the market in an interesting way. The brand is partnering with Walmart for their relaunch and will now be able to reach a larger audience with their affordable prices. The boutique turned brand has launched a 100-piece private label collection with Walmart where everything is affordable. A graphic t-shirt will run you about $15.00 while the collection tops out at a teddy bear coat running you $65.00. Via press release, Walmart’s Head of Fashion, Denise Incandela, stated, “I’m thrilled to announce we’re helping customers build ‘The Ultimate Closet’ with the exclusive relaunch of Scoop as Walmart’s private brand for fashion-forward customers.” Walmart worked closely with Scoop founder Stefani Greenfield and the collection is forward thinking. There are elements like being animal friendly by incorporating certified vegan leather and faux fur. There are on trend elements like animal print and camouflage and they even knocked off the Jacquemus Le Chiquiti Bag, creating affordable and acccessible fashion. The collection has clothing that will be great to add to your work wardrobe as well as your after 5 wardrobe but the accessories are personally what stood out to me. I attended the launch event for the brand and had the opportunity to see an array of influencers wearing the brand. Unfortunately, there were not any plus size women wearing the clothes, which to me was a major miss. I’d love to see how these clothes look on plus size women, especially since according to Plunkett Research , 68% percent of American women wear a size 14 or above. With over a 100 pieces of clothing being a lot to sift through, I’ve rounded up my top picks from the collection. Keep clicking to check them out!

Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James Backstage at the Studio One Eighty Nine show was an amalgamation of melanin magic. Rosario Dawson and her longtime friend Abrima Erwiah have created a social enterprise that supports African fashion and sustainable practices. On Tuesday afternoon, the brand showed their Spring/Summer 2020 collection and had 60 models to show all their vibrant looks using African artisanal practices. Every model had a different hairstyle and TRESemmé products were utilized to help create the looks. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James The Lead Hairstylist for the Spring/Summer 2020 collection was Unilever Hair Expert and Celebrity Hairstylist, Ursula Stephen . Stephen explained, “Typically when you see a show, most of the girls have the same look, even if they don’t have any hair, they are forcing a look into that hair.” This was not the case for this show. She continued, “For us when I walked in and saw the designs, they looked cultural and could be African, and it would be easy to do braids and all that, twists and all that, cultural look, but we wanted to do the opposite. We felt that natural, or loving cultural, doesn’t mean you have to be natural. Natural is a within type of thing.” Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James While backstage I saw people having their locs retwisted and tied up, models getting mini afro buns, hair being blown out into straight looks. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James Stephen explained to me while giving a model a weave, “We just decided we are going to take everybody and enhance their individual look. If you have natural, kinky coarse hair we’re gonna have fun with it! Create a fun shape. Do something different.” Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James The main hairstyle was reverse cornrows with a bang. She explained, “This is why I flipped the braids. I was like, “You know what? I want to incorporate our culture but I also want to show that we could be elevated and we can still be high fashion with our hair. Who says you can’t have a bang with natural hair? Lemme flip it, turn it around, give her a fringe in the front and a surprise in the back.” This hairstyle is great for the girl with a short to medium afro. There was SO much hair backstage. Stephen revealed that there were at least two suitcases full, “probably more.” She shared that women should keep extensions in their house to help switch up their look. “You have options and it’s inexpensive. You can get marley twists and you twist it, you pin it on top of you head. Just create shapes.” You can also just add hair to help make your hair bigger. “That’s what we did with Damarys,” Stephen explained. “She’s closing the show and she had a small afro, and I said, ‘You know what? I want your hair to be a lot more dramatic than what it is.’ We just added natural hair and made her fro extra large.” Source: Mike Coppola / Getty Black hair is so beautiful and it was illustrated during the Studio One Eighty Nine runway show as each model walked down the runway. That’s the beauty of black hair. You can actually be a different person every day if you want. You can literally straighten your hair out and have bone straight hair, if you want today. You can wet it and it go back into your natural texture, then you can do braids, you can do twists. Our hair is beautiful! That is really our magic, is our hair. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful On Monday evening in Union Square, Maki Oh founder and designer, Amaka Osakwe presented her collection to a crowd full of editors, fans, and supporters. The show was a pan-African experience with guests represented from all over the world. I had the pleasure of going backstage before the show and it was a very hectic, sometimes tense, yet overall organized feel. The presentation itself was a beautiful illustration of Afromodern fashion. Source: Yuchen Liao / Getty The Lagos born designer continues to show that African designs are more than Dutch wax and animal print. The models varied in height, sizes, and age, illustrating that the clothes are created for a wide range of women (and men). who want thoughtful style. I loved the gender fluidity that wasn’t purposefully called out, but rather, just represented naturally. Source: Yuchen Liao / Getty I swooned over the pearl embellishments decorating a khaki colored blazer as well as on the hem of a black dress to update your LBD style. Source: Yuchen Liao / Getty Maki uses traditional West African techniques with modern silhouettes to create a head turning collection. Source: Danielle James / Hello Beautiful It’s been awhile since I’ve been to a show where every model loved their hair. Maki Oh utilized fabrics from her latest collection to intertwine them into one long braided ponytail for a statement look. Unlike her counterpart, Christian Siriano , this was truly a way to pay tribute to the culture and Black women who started the trend. The collection felt like a perfect fusion of West African fashion meeting European silhouettes and trends. On the cusp of the 10 year anniversary of Maki Oh, this collection was strong, relatable, and most importantly sellable. As fashion continues to evolve and consumers want more of a global feel, Maki Oh is providing prints and looks that won’t go out of fashion for years to come.
