Gemma Arterton Channels ‘Reckless’ Nature Into ‘Prince Of Persia’

‘I always sort of saw myself as a bit of a stunt girl,’ she says of getting physical in the Jake Gyllenhaal-starring flick. By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Photo: MTV News From Bond girl to protector of a magical dagger, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” co-star Gemma Arterton is no damsel in distress. Whether it’s “Clash of the Titans” or her latest swords-and-sandals epic, the English actress likes it physical. “I think it’s quite rare to get [action roles],” she told MTV News. “I mean, guys are always playing soldiers and warriors, [but] there’s not many roles for women like it. I really threw myself into it and did a lot of my own stunts, which I’m really, really proud of. I always sort of saw myself as a bit of a stunt girl anyway. I’m quite reckless. [ Laughs. ] So I was really pleased when I got offered this role.” Two sequences in particular really got her blood moving. “There’s a horse-riding one, where I pull myself to the horse from standing while it’s galloping towards me,” she said. “It took me about two weeks to learn how to do that. And it was pretty nerve-racking doing it, because everyone’s watching, and I had to prove that I could do it.” The other offered an even greater physical challenge. “I roll under [a] closing gate while I’m running. I was petrified that I was actually going to run into the gate,” she said, laughing. “And there’s actual video footage of me going: ‘Did you see that? Did you see that? I did it!’ and everyone going, ‘Uh, yeah, we were all filming it, funnily enough.’ ” While many scenes in “Price of Persia” — a Disney film based on a popular video game that opens Friday and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the title character — rely on green screen, the actress pointed out that several sequences utilize real sets as well. “There was green screen, of course there was, but luckily it wasn’t like we were acting with nothing. I can’t tell you the details of the sets and everything around us. We did have a real sense of what we were doing. Obviously, there are those scenes, like that sand-slide scene, that was all green screen.” Arterton first rose to prominence as Strawberry Fields in Daniel Craig’s second James Bond flick, “Quantum of Solace.” She appeared earlier this year opposite Sam Worthington in the 3-D remake of “Clash of the Titans.” She will next be seen in the decidedly less action-fueled “Tamara Drewe,” a romantic comedy in which she plays the title character. Fellow “Titans” alum Luke Evans also stars. ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’ Films Being Prepped By Two Studios

David Fincher is in talks with Disney, while ‘Wanted’ helmer Timur Bekmambetov may direct for Fox. By Adam Rosenberg David Fincher Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images Two competing undersea voyages are being prepped for Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” One belongs to Disney, with “The Social Network” director David Fincher in talks to helm and “Bourne Ultimatum” writer Scott Z. Burns pegged to develop the script. Elsewhere in Hollywood, Fox is prepping its own adventure with Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus; sibling filmmakers Ridley and Tony Scott will produce and Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) is in talks to direct. The classic sci-fi/adventure novel was on the fast track for a McG-directed Disney adaptation until late last year, when the “Terminator Salvation” helmer departed after the project was put on hold indefinitely. The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Heat Vision blog reveals that Fincher approached the studio’s new production head, Sean Bailey, some weeks ago about the project. Fox’s project is further along, as Heat Vision blog also reports that Fincher and Burns have yet to finalize any deals. The Scotts are working with “Clash of the Titans” co-writer Scott Beacham now on developing a script. Bekmambetov isn’t confirmed, but given that Disney doesn’t yet have a script nailed down, Fincher will likely direct another film before he dives down “Under the Sea.” There are no concerns over the rights to adapting “20,000 Leagues” because it’s in the public domain; anyone can work with it. The tone of Disney’s take is unknown, but it is believed that the Fox version would shift from a period setting to a futuristic one. It’s worth noting that this bears a resemblance to another adaptation that Bekmambetov has spoken about, a complete with a supernaturally talented whale and psychic-powered whalers. Hope Dworaczyk in 3D: Available in Playboy!

Playboy has bad news for its readers: It’s gonna be hard to claim you purchase this magazine solely for the articles. That’s because Hugh Hefner and company have come up with a novel approach to nudity, starting with the June issue that goes on sale this Friday: three dimensions of nakedness! Indeed, Playmate of the Year Hope Dworaczyk (yes, that Hope Dworaczyk , the same woman that had an affair with NBA legend Jason Kidd) is featured on the magazine’s cover in nothing but black lingerie. Inside is a 3D centerfold shot of her. In a word: Oooga! Dworaczyk also posed for Playboy in April 2009, but this is an entirely new dimension of modeling. Literally! What made Hefner follow the lead of Avatar , Clash of the Titans and pretty much big budget film going forward? The magazine’s circulation has dropped from 3.5 million to 1.5 million over the last three years, so Hugh wondered: “What would people most like to see in 3-D? Probably a naked lady.” Give the man credit: he’s old, but his brain clearly still works.

Orlando Bloom In Talks For ‘Three Musketeers’

Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen confirmed for titular roles in Paul W.S. Anderson flick. By Adam Rosenberg Orlando Bloom Photo: Getty Images/ Frederick M. Brown Of Hollywood’s two competing “Three Musketeers” projects — one to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the other by Doug Liman — Anderson’s treatment just took a big, galloping lead. A big chunk of cast has been announced as either confirmed or in negotiation, including the parts of the titular musketeers, their pal d’Artagnan and the main villains. The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Heat Vision blog revealed that Ray Stevenson (“The Book of Eli”), Luke Evans (“Clash of the Titans”) and Matthew Macfadyen (“Robin Hood”) are confirmed for the roles of Porthos, Athos and Aramis, respectively, the so-called Three Musketeers. “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” star Logan Lerman is in negotiations for d’Artagnan, the young protagonist of the original Alexandre Dumas novel. On the villains’ side, Anderson has locked in two great ones: “Inglourious Basterds” Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz will play Cardinal Richelieu and “Casino Royale” villain Mads Mikkelsen is locked for Rochefort. The director’s wife, Milla Jovovich, star of Anderson’s “Resident Evil” series, also joined the cast. She’ll play Milady de Winter, a former lover of Musketeer Athos described as a “17th-century ‘Bond’ girl.” As if all of this top-tier casting isn’t enough, there’s also an offer out to Orlando Bloom for the role of the Duke of Buckingham. Anderson, who co-wrote the script with Andrew Davies, is said to be going for a “contemporary” feel while maintaining the period setting in his treatment of the story. The adaptation will also be presented in 3-D, a format that Anderson has been vocal about embracing in all of his future film work. His next effort, “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” is in 3-D and currently set for a September 10 release. What other young Hollywood actor should join the “Musketeers”? Tell us in the comments! Jimmy Fallon Finds Pants on His iPad

The only thing more appealing today than paying extra money to see the crappy 3D conversion of Clash of the Titans ? Spending over $500 on a brand, spanking new iPad that will be rendered obsolete in six months when the second generation comes out! That said, the chances are good that at least some of you are probably reading this on an iPad right this second. And for those of you still in the nether region of indecision, last night’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon might push you to join them. After the jump, watch as Topolsky does his best Steve Jobs impersonation and learn how you can even use the iPad to find bootleg YouTube videos of Jimmy Fallon-as-Neil Young performing “Pants on the Ground.”

Friday Box Office: Titans Will Cash

If it’s a weekend in 2010, you can be sure that there’s a 3D film sucking up dollars. The overly hyped Clash of the Titans turned the trick yesterday with an estimated $30 million (including $4.2 million from Thursday screenings), meaning it will shatter the Easter weekend record of $40.2 million held by—wait for it—the immortal Scary Movie 4 . As for the other openers: Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too landed in second with $13 million (if only it were in 3D), while The Last Song finished fourth, with just $7 million. Don’t fret too much, though, Miley Cyrus fans: Song has already taken in around $17 million since opening on Wednesday and should finish the weekend with $25 million. And with that, the butterflies fly away . The top-five after the jump.
