Expect The GOP To Go Into Overdrive Suppressing The Black Vote Ahead Of Election Day

R epublicans, increasingly worried about losing control of Congress, could rev up their ongoing voter suppression efforts in the final days before the 2018 midterm elections. See Also: What Every Black Voter Should Know If They Experience Suppression At The Polls A loss of expected momentum has the GOP scrambling for its political life, as the party tosses lifelines to House candidates in districts that President Trump won in 2016, the Washington Post reported. Republican strategists find themselves making tough choices about which struggling candidates to save and which ones to ignore. Political experts had long predicted that Democrats would retake the House. But after a series of political wins, the GOP saw a chance to stem the blue wave. However, Republicans now see their hope slipping away. In desperation, the Republicans could step up their voter suppression efforts in key races. With the early voting season underway, voter suppression incidents are increasing. There was indeed an upswing, but the momentum has fizzled, according to the Post. Added to that, Trump and his party face a surge of criticism and blame for inspiring the recent mail bomb attacks on prominent Democrats, as well as the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue. Republicans are scrambling, using every trick in the book to retain control of Congress and state governments. Suppression efforts targeting Black voters have already been seen in Georgia , where Stacey Abrams could make history as the first African-American female governor. Voting rights advocates joined a lawsuit against Georgia election officials for the unusually high rate of absentee mail ballot rejects. On Monday, former President Jimmy Carter urged Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp to recuse himself from overseeing the state’s elections. Kemp is competing against Abrams for governor and has come under fire for alleged voter suppression. But Kemp continued to decline calls to step down. Voting rights groups are prepared for a surge in suppression efforts and urge voters to know their rights. Signs of voter intimidation include aggressive questioning about voting qualifications from poll workers and harassment that targets specific racial or ethnic groups, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Gillum Claps Back At Trump With HBCU Pride

View post:

F lorida’s Democratic nominee for governor Andrew Gillum returned fire at President Donald Trump  one day after the divider in chief insulted Gillum’s HBCU (historically Black colleges and universities) education in a tweet on Monday. See Also: Trump Takes A Swipe At Andrew Gillum’s HBCU Education The Tallahassee mayor tweeted Tuesday morning that he’s a proud graduate of  Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). Gillum could make history as Florida’s first African-American governor. He’s in a tight race against Ron DeSantis , a candidate with a long history of being outspokenly racist against Black people. The comments from Trump, who has readily endorsed DeSantis, came against the backdrop of several polls indicating that Gillum holds a slim lead over DeSantis days after two debates in which Gillum outperformed his rival. In his response, Gillum recommended that Trump learn a few things about FAMU’s long history of providing stellar education to African-Americans. p.s. Mr. @realDonaldTrump , I am a graduate of THE Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) — an HBCU founded on October 3, 1887. Google it. https://t.co/I8uOokptJA — Andrew Gillum (@AndrewGillum) October 30, 2018 Trump has no interest in uniting the nation at a time when the country is reeling from domestic terror attacks from white supremacists. The president suggested in his tweet that Gillum’s education at FAMU was somehow inferior to DeSantis’ Ivy League education. He also called Gillum “a thief” and incompetent as a mayor. Gillum tweeted this response to Trump doubling down in a Fox News interview, “I heard @realDonaldTrump ran home to @FoxNews to lie about me. But as my grandmother told me — never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig likes it. So ignore him and vote, Florida!” When pressed on Monday by reporters about what exactly the president meant by calling Gillum a thief, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to elaborate, according to Politico . Trump’s remarks may very well backfire by galvanizing young African-Americans who, like Gillum, are proud HBCU graduates. Andrew Gillum Reportedly Has Trump Scrambling In Last-Ditch Move For DeSantis

Follow this link:

A fter  Andrew Gillum ‘s recent streak of victories in Florida’s gubernatorial race, Trump has reportedly planned to make last-ditch pleas for votes for controversial GOP candidates. Apparently, Trump’s aggressive strategy comes as his team fears a potential election wipeout with Republicans in the state that could hurt his re-election campaign. RELATED: 5 Takeaways From Andrew Gillum’s Florida Debate Rematch Against Ron DeSantis The president will try several things to defend his buddies, Senate candidate Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis , the GOP Florida gubernatorial nominee who Gillum bested in recent debates. Trump is scheduled to visit the state at least twice, sources shared with Politico . Floridians who haven’t cast absentee ballots will also receive presidential text messages, and discussions are underway about overrunning the state with robocalls from Trump. GOP members and Trump’s administration know that Florida is a key swing state and that early voting is gaining steam. They also presumably recognize that DeSantis has been eyed as an early bet to lose the high-profile governor race by several social media users. The White House is mounting a political rescue mission in Florida, fearing a wipeout in the key swing state next month could damage Trump’s reelection hopes https://t.co/O6DuOQKimd — POLITICO (@politico) October 26, 2018 Both DeSantis and Scott are trailing their Democratic rivals, according to recent surveys reported by Politico. Perhaps Trump and GOP members realize what a wipeout would mean for them, especially if Gillum, Tallahassee’s current mayor, wins the gubernatorial race. A Gillum victory, undoubtedly, would make a huge statement for candidates of color and be a celebrated win among African Americans. As governor, Gillum would also be able to drum up support for the eventual Democratic nominee for the 2020 presidential race. As the official midterm election date gets closer, Democratic efforts will likely increase to mobilize base voters. #Late: Caitlyn Jenner Says She’s No Longer A Trump Supporter

splashnews.com Recent Trump News Seemed To Have Changed Her Mind After a good two years of the trashiest of trash platforms for LGBTQ issues , Caitlyn Jenner finally had the epiphany that Trump was horrible. She addressed the orange-marinated pres’ in an op-ed for The Washington Post.  She said she was regretful of believing 45 could support the transgender community. “Believing that I could work with Trump and his administration to support our community was a mistake,” she wrote. The 68-year-old brought up all the very unsupportive things Trump has done since he’s been in office, like the recent memo suggesting an infant’s sex at birth should be permanently linked to their gender identity or the rollbacks Trump made against  Obama-era protections for trans students. Now it seems Jenner is finally seeing the light. She explained her process to get to this point. At first, she thought the Republican Party would be “fertile ground” to change minds and hearts. “Trump was the first Republican presidential candidate to claim to support this valuable, vulnerable community, and I was encouraged by the applause he received when  he said at the Republican National Convention  in July 2016 that he would stand up for the LGBTQ community,” she said. Too bad Jenner missed the memo that Trump was the leader of liars and nothing he says holds weight. “This is politics at its worst,” Jenner said. “It is unacceptable, it is upsetting, and it has deeply, personally hurt me.” Jenner ended her piece by saying she was determined to be a leader of change. “I will still work with anyone who is committed to help our community,” she said. She also acknowledged that her “unique position of privilege” gives her an advantage to help. Considering Jenner’s bad calls for the last two years, it’s not certain the trans community will rally behind her. But time will tell if the forever late Caitlyn will make meaningful change.

But the racists believe he’s a racist.” As my grandmother used to say — a hit dog will holler. pic.twitter.com/kC34Ldd0is — Andrew Gillum (@AndrewGillum) October 25, 2018   Political divisiveness The candidates were asked whether the divisiveness in the nation’s political discourse has pushed some people to the edge, prompting actions like sending pipe bombs in the mail to high-profile Democrats. Gillum argued that DeSantis is part of the problem. He pointed to comments DeSantis made on Fox News in which he warned Floridians not to “monkey this up” by voting for his Black opponent. Soon after DeSantis blew that racist dog whistle, neo-Nazis began sending out robocalls that included jungle music and monkey calls in the background. “My opponent has run this race very close to the Trump handbook where we call each other names.”   Teacher salaries Gillum noted that teachers’ salaries in Florida are ranked the 45th lowest of the 50 states. “If my grandmother was here, she wouldn’t just say that’s a shame, she would say that’s a crying shame.”   Gillum called out DeSantis for telling lies about his policy positions “In the last debate, Mr. DeSantis lied 21 times. Now, today makes the 22nd, and we’ve just started this debate.”   “Mr. DeSantis in the last debate lied 21 times. 21 times. And now today makes the 22nd and we just started this debate.” – @AndrewGillum #FLGovDebate pic.twitter.com/L6r7zXdpDE — Brynna Quillin (@brynnaquillin) October 24, 2018 Medicaid expansion and healthcare policy DeSantis tried desperately to defend his multiple votes in Congress to end Obamacare without having a suitable replacement. Gillum explained to the former congressman that healthcare is a top issue for Floridians. He recalled his childhood experiences. “I remember having to wait for the free dental clinic to come through my neighborhood to have my teeth cleaned.”   DeSantis questioned the moderator’s data from the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office’s report that rejected the healthcare plan that the former congressman and his GOP colleagues promoted. Gillum delivered this zinger. “Mr. DeSantis could have a monopoly on his opinion, but he doesn’t have a monopoly on facts. Facts matter.”   Corruption scandal One of the big questions before the debate rematch was how Gillum would respond to an onslaught from DeSantis over an FBI probe into possible Tallahassee government corruption, in which the mayor was reportedly not the target of the investigation. On Tuesday, text messages were made public about the source of tickets Gillum received to the Broadway musical “Hamilton” that appear to contradict his statements at the first debate on the issue. “In the state of Florida we have 99 issues, and Hamilton ain’t one of them.”   The Republican taxes overhaul Gillum called the GOP tax overhaul that boosted the bottom line for corporations a failure for working class families. The Republicans promised that there would be a “magical trickle down” to poor people. Instead of a pay raise to working class families, the tax overhaul gave the nation something else. “They have drilled a deep hole into the national debt and working people haven’t seen any appreciable rise in their wages.”   . @AndrewGillum delivered a powerful rejection of Trump's hateful politics of division at last night's debate for Florida governor. We're with Gillum! pic.twitter.com/FuO5cOLsFV — MoveOn (@MoveOn) October 22, 2018 Families continue to struggle financially While the Trump administration and Republicans tout falling unemployment rates, wages have not increased. “Forty-four percent of people in the state of Florida say they can’t make ends meet at the end of the month. Mr. DeSantis’ big donors may be doing just fine. They’ve got their yachts and boats. For the rest of the working people in this state, they simply want a wage they could live on.”   Immigration “We’re not going to criminalize people of their personhood simply because you’re a brown-skinned person or that you speak a language that may be of a foreign tongue to Mr. DeSantis or you live in a neighborhood that may include more brown people. That doesn’t, in and of itself, subject you to racial profiling. That’s the essence of what he would be promoting.”   SEE ALSO: Ron DeSantis’ Racist History Didn’t Just Begin With His ‘Monkey’ Attack On Andrew Gillum Megyn Kelly Hypocritical On Abuse Of Women [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3833255″ overlay=”true”]

Horseface vs. Tiny: Donald Trump & Stormy Daniels Go Nuclear on Twitter

No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, you probably don’t need us to tell you that Donald Trump is not the sort of president we’re accustomed to seeing in this country. While previous leaders of the free world seemed primarily focused on leading the free world (booooring!) Trump has set his sights on continually raising the bar in terms of batsh-t insanity and further debasing America on the global stage. And today, the Donald struck a major blow against both human decency and dignity of his office when he celebrated his legal victory over his former mistress Stormy Daniels . On Monday, a judge threw out Daniels’ million dollar defamation lawsuit against Trump, and naturally, he felt the need to take a victory lap on Twitter. Trump began by quoting a Fox News headline: “Federal Judge throws out Stormy Danials [sic] lawsuit versus Trump. Trump is entitled to full legal fees,’” he tweeted. From there, Trump tossed in his own two cents, and man, did things get bonkers in a hurry: “Great, now I can go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer in the Great State of Texas,” Trump wrote. “She will confirm the letter she signed! She knows nothing about me, a total con!” Yes, the President of the United States is now referring to his former mistress as Horseface. Never one to shy away from Donnie’s trash talk, Daniels immediately went on the offensive. And we’re pretty sure her name should now be listed alongside Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkes Booth, because she just killed a president: “Ladies and Gentlemen,  may I present your president,” Stormy tweeted. “In addition to his…umm…shortcomings, he has demonstrated his incompetence, hatred of women and lack of self-control on Twitter AGAIN! And perhaps a penchant for bestiality. Game on, Tiny.” Daniels has talked about Trump’s penis before in the sort of graphic detail that will haunt our dreams for the rest of our days, but flat-out calling the dude “Tiny” in a public forum is an undeniable death blow. Stormy went on to attack Trump on a subject that’s even more sensitive than his penis size. We’re talking, of course, about his grammar: “I see someone finally made it to chapter 3,” Daniels tweeted, referring to her recent memoir. “Also, can someone please teach Tiny about correct punctuation? We already knew you’re a con, though.  #triggeredhim #slowreader #commasarehard” Yes, it seems Trump decided to celebrate his self-proclaimed victory over Daniels a bit prematurely. Based on this latest exchange, it seems the adult film star and her attack dog lawyer won’t be going away anytime soon.
