Un-‘Edgy’ Fraggle Rock Writer-Director Bashes Weinsteins

There is a parallel universe where confetti and balloons and marching bands will arrive out of nowhere to celebrate the millionth filmmaker to rip on Harvey Weinstein. Here, however, all I can really do is offer a solo womp-womp fanfare and a couple sympathy pats to Cory Edwards, the writer/director who is ticked off that the Weinstein Company would go behind his back to solicit a rewrite of Fraggle Rock. How do we know? He blogged about it.

CNN Hopes to Replace Larry King with Piers Morgan; Confuse Got Talent Viewers

Sad news, the 700,000 or so viewers that still tune into Larry King Live! Your favorite suspendered host allegedly has only until the autumn to croak “You’re on, caller” into the mic because CNN is finally replacing Larry King with someone a little younger, a little hipper and a little less likely to cite Arthur Godfrey as his broadcasting inspiration.

Ridley Scott Describes Alien Prequels He’ll Probably Never Make

The odds of Ridley Scott ever shooting his planned/rumored/anticipated prequel to Alien remain at a less-than optimal 45-to-1 , but that didn’t stop the filmmaker on Sunday from passing along details of what to expect if he ever gets it underway. Two words: Space Jockey.

Joel Silver Wants Don Quixote, Action Hero

Considering the bad luck and despair that have afflicted would-be adapters of Don Quixote over the years — from Orson Welles to Terry Gilliam — I kind of love the idea that Joel Silver is developing a version as a tentpole action picture for Warner Bros. How can you resist the scope of what will go wrong on that set? I mean, can you throw money at a curse? Will Silver’s default leading man Robert Downey Jr. really look passable as a deluded Spanish retiree? Anyway, this is happening. [ Pajiba ]

The Verge: Teresa Palmer

It can’t be argued that Australian men are having a bit of a moment in Hollywood — just ask actors like Ryan Kwanten or the Hemsworth brothers, tapped to play roles that America’s slender man-boys can’t quite muster up the strength for — but what of the Australian actresses who’ll follow in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman or Naomi Watts? Enter Teresa Palmer. The 24-year-old Adelaide native has appeared in productions like December Boys and Bedtime Stories , but things are about to ramp up considerably; next month, she’ll be seen as Jay Baruchel’s love interest in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice , then she’s primed for a big action moment in the alien adventure I Am Number Four , where she’ll star alongside other rising stars like Alex Pettyfer and Glee’s Dianna Agron. Palmer called up Movieline last week to chat about the crazy training regimen she’s currently undertaking for Number Four , the big movie she swears she isn’t actually attached to (no matter what IMD b says), and how the swerves of her early career have made her stronger.

A little carnage to start off your weekend? Our Commenters of the Week win the chance to see January Jones in her element — destroying cars and remaining unconcerned . You’ll be doing it up old-school, playing her in the original Playstation version of Twisted Metal 2 and attempting to defeat her the way Bobbie Barrett never could. Jodie Foster Involved in Teen Boy Scuffle, But At Least Her Accuser Thinks She Looks Young

So, it appears that Jodie Foster got in a little bit of an altercation last month at the parking lot of The Grove (though in fairness, I want to punch people when I’m there, too). According to Radar Online , a 17-year-old boy was photographing the star and her two children when Foster poked him in the chest and grabbed his arm. Foster says the teen was actually an aggressive paparzzo. A teenage paparazzo? Who’d ever believe such a thing! Yes, yes, it’s a weird story, and here’s one more weird detail.

Breaking Bad Creator Vince Gilligan on AMC’s ‘Big Balls’ and a Potential Fifth Season

Over the course of three seasons, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has transformed his protagonist from a spineless husband and chemistry teacher into a cold-hearted meth chemist who neglects his family in order to churn out hundreds of pounds of lethal crystal for cash. The role, born somewhere deep in Gilligan’s subconscious, won star Bryan Cranston back-to-back Emmys, and tied together three seasons of one of the best (and darkest) dramas on television today. Gilligan himself, though, could not be any more different than the grim world and characters he created. In anticipation of this Sunday’s season finale, the native Virginian — who also wrote and produced over 30 episodes of The X Files and penned the Will Smith blockbuster Hancock — phoned Movieline to cheerfully talk about the nuttiest scene he ever wrote for Walt (that never made it to air), the encouragement of AMC, and the possibility of renewing Breaking Bad for a fifth season.
