According to NYDailyNews , a man named Alex Coreas was walking his dogs through the parking lot at Stuebner Airline Veterinary Hospital when he was struck by lightning . Fortunately, hospital employee Christy Mittler saw the whole thing happen and instantly rushed to administer first aid. When she and several others got to Coreas’ side, they reported that his clothes were charred, his socks and shoes were completely gone, and there was a huge hole in the ground. Coreas survived his ordeal and local police found the three dogs that ran off.

The effortless athlete competed in the world championships in Stuttgart, Germany this weekend and once again made history. She not only landed the triple-double during her floor routine, she landed the double-double dismount on the balance beam. USA Gymnastics confirmed on Twitter that the impressive feat ensures that the triple-double on the floor and the double-double on the beam will officially be named “The Biles” and the “Biles II” respectively. “My goal going into tonight was to not be great,” Biles said, reports CNN. “It wasn’t to do great, it was to do well, and I feel like I accomplished that.” Simone already has two moves named for her, one in the floor exercise and one on a vault. If Simone keeps it up she’ll become the most decorated gymnast in world championships history. As previously reported she won a record-tying sixth all-around title at the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Missouri in August. Source: Alex Goodlett / Getty Andre Emmett Killed A member of Ice Cube’s BIG3 league has died in an unfortunate act of violence. Andre Emmett, 37, was gunned down Monday morning in Dallas. The news comes from USA Today who cited a police report saying that Emmett was “approached by two unknown suspects as he sat in his vehicle in front of his residence in the 1800 block of N. Prairie Avenue around 2:30 a.m. “The suspects displayed a handgun and an altercation ensued, during which the victim was shot as he ran away from the suspects.” Emmett was transported a hospital, where he died. The baller previously played for the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets before playing for the BIG3. Emmett was also a standout at Texas Tech where he became the second-leading scorer in program history. Thank you for the competitor you were on the court and the incredible person you were off of it. Source: AAron Ontiveroz / Getty Referee Suspended For 2 Years After Making Student Cut His Locs Before Match After making 16-year-old high school wrestler Andrew Johnson cut his locs in order to compete in his next match, referee Alan Maloney has been suspended for two years. According to reports from USA Today , the announcement was made on Wednesday following a lengthy investigation into the incident that went down on December 19. During a Buena-Oakcrest meet, Maloney forced Johnson to either wear a hair cover, cut his hair, or forfeit his match. According to The Undefeated , the referee told Johnson that his hair was “unnatural,” and the ref only gave him 90 seconds to trim his locs down. A video showing Drew’s hair being cut went viral, and obviously, people were incredibly angry to see what the young man had to go through. Johnson chose the haircut, then won by sudden victory in OT to help spark Buena to a win. pic.twitter.com/f6JidKNKoI — Mike Frankel (@MikeFrankelJSZ) December 20, 2018 The Division on Civil Rights worked with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association to come up with a suitable punishment for Maloney, and has now implemented a revised “Guidance on Race Discrimination Based on Hairstyle.” The new policy indicates that guidelines which previously banned, limitedm or restricted hairstyles closely associated with those of African-American descent are now in violation of New Jersey law. “Student athletes should be able to compete with each other on a level playing field,” New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said in a statement. “Racial discrimination in the enforcement of the rules of any sport is inconsistent with the spirit of fair play.” On top of punishment for the referee who so ignorantly asked the student to cut his dreadlocks, Maloney’s suspension created a tidal wave across the NJSIAA with all referees, coaches, and athletic administrators required to undergo implicit bias training. Wrestling officials will also need to undergo hair discrimination training with a focus specifically on Rule 4.2.1, which addresses concerns over hair length, and not on hairstyle. It’s about time this racist ref gets served with a proper punishment for what he made Andrew Johnson go through.

Pierrea Naketa detailed the incident in a Medium article and explained that she visited Copycat Co. in the H Street neighborhood after leaving a silent dance party in the same area. At first, Naketa says she and her friend were having a good time but right when they were about to leave, the two witnessed a major disturbance at the bar area. Naketa says a male bartender “with deep brown skin” had “aggressively approached two black women sitting at the bar and snatched their plate of food.” Then, Naketa says he yelled to one of the women who was dark-skinned, saying “This bit** gotta go!” “Bit**? Why am I bit**,” Naketa says the woman responded. This is when Naketa says the bartender escalated things and went into a tirade screaming multiple times “YOU BLACK AND YOU UGLY BIT**! YOU BLACK AS F*** AND YOU UGLY!” Naketa noted that the dark-skinned lady’s friend had a lighter complexion. According to Naketa, the bartender was mad about another incident that happened the last time the dark-skinned woman was there. He argued that she was banned from CopyCat. Naketa explains, “the woman stated someone she was with got into an altercation with the bartender and they left, but she seemed to genuinely not know she was not welcomed to return.” As a matter of fact, Naketa said the woman and her friend were buying drinks and food with no interruption up until the bartender’s confrontation. Not too long after the bartender began his alleged tirade, Naketa says a short Asian man, who she assumed was the manager, came out and calmly told the dark-skinned woman she had to leave. Naketa then says, “After being humiliated in front of a packed room, she left with more grace than many I know would have. She obliged the request while noting to the manager, ‘Do you hear him calling me black and ugly? Is that okay?’” Once the woman left, Naketa says she felt obligated to talk to the manager: “I explained to him that while I do not know what happened before, and Copycat may have had good cause to want the woman to leave, the way she was asked to leave was disturbing. I asked him if he would be addressing the colorist rant with the bartender.” That’s when Naketa says the man said, “What? Do you want me to fire him?” He then tried to explain that the bartender was Black too. Naketa responded to the presumed manager in her article, saying, “that the bartender’s race is irrelevant and that his employee had screamed colorist remarks in front of a room full of people. I told him that my friends and I were uncomfortable and offended.” Naketa argues that the presumed manger didn’t take her concerns seriously and as she began to respond, “a young Black man who worked in the kitchen appeared from around the corner with a ladle in hand.” Naketa says he wrongfully assumed that Naketa was the woman who had been kicked out. Naketa says that he yelled, “Man quit talking to these bit**es! You been talking to these bit**es for 10 minutes! Kick the bit** out!’” After Naketa’s masculine partner came over and corrected the cook, Naketa says he apologized. However, when she asked for the presumed manager’s name, he replied, “I’m not giving you my name.” Naketa argues that if she hadn’t been a dark-skinned Black woman, “my complaint would have been taken seriously.” The next day, when Naketa Googled the restaurant, she realized that the man she was addressing who she thought was the manager was actually one of the owners of the restaurant Devin Gong. According to Thrillist , Gong is the owner of CopyCat Co., which “combines craft cocktails with Northern Chinese bites like pot stickers, skewers, and bao buns.” He just opened another restaurant called Astoria in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C., according to Eater . Since Naketa has shared her story on Medium , some folks across social media have supported her situation, saying they will never go to CopyCat Co. again. Naketa describes herself as a “Black lesbian, law school grad, organizer, writer” and “Founder and President of Play In the Sun , an anti-colorism organization.” The woman who she says was kicked out has yet to make a public statement about the alleged incident. NewsOne reached out to Devin Gong with no response. Naketa urged people to share her story, writing, “I hope that I will find this woman.”

Plus-size retailer Avenue announced it will close all of their stores, according to a press release via liquidation company Hilco Merchant Resources. This plus size store is a staple for size 14+ women looking for moderately priced, everyday work clothing, dresses, bras, and more. Avenue has 222 stores located in 33 states within the U.S. The store was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in New Rochelle, New Jersey. In 2007, the company was purchased by Redcats USA (who is part of the Kering company). In 2012, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was purchased by Versa Capital Management. Now, the company is liquidating all of their locations. What does this mean for you and their plus-size customers? It’s time to shop! Forgive the most obvious pun in content writing history, but… … it turns out that Todd Chrisley does NOT actually know best. Or, perhaps the reality star does know best, if the subject at hand is how to try and avoid paying one’s taxes. This perfect segue is relevant because the veteran USA Network and his wife, Julie, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for tax evasion, as well as other financial crimes, according to local news station WSBTV. The indictment includes a dozen charges. Among the most serious? Wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. In a statement obtained by People Magazine on Tuesday, Todd’s lawyer, Bruce H. Morris and Stephen Friedberg, said the following: “The allegations contained in the indictment are based on complete falsehoods. The Chrisleys are innocent of all charges.” The embattled couple rose to fame as the patriarch and matriarch of Chrisley Knows Best, a reality show that basically just chronicles their lives — and the lives of their three kids — as very rich residents of Atlanta and then Nashville. It has run for seven seasons and recently debuted a spinoff called “Growing Up Chrisley,” starring a pair of these Chrisley children. According to Radar Online, however, executives have chosen not to sign Todd and Julie to new contracts, effectively canceling their long-running series. This website source claims producers have “decided to distance themselves as much as possible” from Todd and Juli,e as well as their children Savannah, Chase and Grayson. For the record, though, USA has not yet issued a statement to confirm this move. In an Instagram post Monday, a day before the 12 charges were filed, Todd insisted that he and his wife had done nothing wrong. He wrote a lengthy message that started as follows: “I’ve never talked about this publicly before, but there’s been a cloud hanging over Julie and me and our entire family for the past seven years. It all started back in 2012, when we discovered that a trusted employee of ours had been stealing from us big time.” While Chrisley said that he wouldn’t “go into details,” he alleged that the case “involved all kinds of really bad stuff like creating phony documents, forging our signatures, and threatening other employees with violence if they said anything.” And he continued: We even discovered that he illegally bugged our home. Needless to say, we fired the guy and took him to court — and that’s when the real trouble started. To get revenge, he took a bunch of his phony documents to the U.S. Attorney’s office and told them we had committed all kinds of financial crimes, like tax evasion and bank fraud. That got their attention all right, but once we had a chance to explain who he was and what he’d done to us, they realized it was all a bunch of nonsense and they sent him on his way. After delving into a few other details about how this indictment came to be, Todd concluded: “We know we’ve done nothing wrong… “I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of. Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.” Shortly after Todd released this statement, daughter Savannah Chrisley left a supportive comment. “Thank you for being YOU! You have and always will be the glue that holds us all together. God has a much bigger plan for all of us and this is just part of it,” she wrote. We can’t say for sure whether or not Chrisley is guilty. But he’s just the latest wealthy reality star to get in trouble with the law over major financial issues. Both Abby Lee Miller of Dance Moms and Teresa Giudice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey spent time in jail for their roles in illegal monetary schemes.
