Arizona Must Be Wondering: ‘Why Have Laws?’

Anytime La Raza or any of the other Latino immigration groups start to define our illegal problem, they inform us that the aliens streaming across our southern border are just hardworking folks looking for a better life for them and their families. Well I’ll submit to you that it isn’t mom, dad and grandma climbing those high border fences with the razor wire at the top. It takes an able-bodied, athletic person to scale those heights. The people who scream the loudest against an Arizona type law are those who either have a vested interest in keeping the price of basic labor down, those seeking political gain or those interested in increasing the Latino population of America. I personally have nothing against any law-abiding citizen seeking a better life coming to this country, but I am against anybody who makes their first act on American soil to break our laws. Out of the millions of illegals who have crossed our border how many are members of violent gangs, how many could have terrorist ties, how many are carrying dangerous diseases and how many are ferrying the drugs that are destroying our culture. The truth of the matter is that we just don’t know and that’s just insanity. This is the only civilized nation in the world that allows foreigners to just walk across its borders unimpeded. What is wrong, in my humble opinion, boils down to this: This is not a partisan political problem because presidents of both parties have dropped the ball on this one. There are evidently longer strings being pulled from higher secret places that can control the policies of two political parties which are diametrically opposed on so many other issues It is not fair to the rest of the world’s immigrants who wait patiently and legally to become citizens of the U.S.A. . This unimpeded influx of unskilled, uneducated, non-English speaking workers will severely water down the labor pool and seriously increase the national debt as greedy, vote seeking politicians grant social entitlements to people who are not even citizens of this country. While the majority of Hispanics who come to this country just want to be good citizens, assimilate and live in peace there is a militant fringe that is not too far from serious violence at the present and could easily be incited to destructive civil unrest. When that happens it will farther harm Anglo-Hispanic relations. What can we do about it? First of all, whether you’re Hispanic, Jewish, Irish, Arabic or a mongrel like me we have to be Americans first. We have to have a burning desire to protect our country from chaos and lawlessness. It is after all everybody’s country and the shape we leave it in for our children is up to us. The first thing that has to be done is to seal the border. Nobody comes across except through a legal port of entry where his or her identification, nationality and general state of health can be determined. If it takes fences, National Guard troops, electronics or a massive increase in border patrol agents it has to be done, without sealing the border all other efforts are futile and meaningless. And then begin the long and laborious task of identification. And I’m not talking about rounding up people like a cattle gathering but it can be done in a firm but humane way. But the only way to accomplish this is to let our law enforcement officers do their jobs by determining the nationality of those who are stopped for other offences just as the Arizona law suggests. The Arizona law is not an attempt to increase racial profiling, it is just common sense, and I dare say if it involved the Haitians or Algerians there would be no public outcry. But the resistance has more to do with politics than compassion. By implementing this kind of policy we can immediately deport the criminals and otherwise undesirables who have come across our border illegally and we can work out a path to legal citizenship for the others, giving them a place in line but not in front of those who have gone thru of citizenship ought the long process ahead of them. We should require all employers to determine the nationality of any person they hire and work out a comprehensive guest worker program by issuing temporary visa and after that severely punish employers with undocumented workers. America was discovered and founded by immigrants. All our ancestors came here from some other country. Immigration has sustained and strengthened America for over two hundred years, but legal, controlled immigration not wholesale invasion by anybody who wants to walk across the border. There is a major catastrophe on our horizon and the people who are supposed to do something about it absolutely refuse. They’re long on talk but horribly short on action. So, as usual, it falls to we the people.

Democrat county supervisor: Arizona is not a border state

OK, well this may explain why Democrats don't understand why Arizona passed SB 1070. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQp8M0bkarM&feature=player_embedded According to her, Arizona is not a border state. No, it's “removed from the border.” After making a comment that is so obviously ignorant…what needs to be said? Meanwhile, we are finding out that there is a nexus between Hezbollah and the Mexican drug gangs… http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/25/congresswoman-raises-red-flag-hezboll… You'd think this intel would inspire the Federal Govt–that would be Obama–to take our border issues seriously, as a matter of national defense. But no. This week Obama met with Arizona Senator Kyle, who reports that Obama refuses to seal the border until the Republicans agree to work with him for “immigration reform”…also known as “AMNESTY”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpyrlX52TwA And now we learn that Obama has decided to appoint a Sanctuary City kook to head ICE. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/24/obama-administration-picks-critic-imm… The Obama administration has tapped an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level to oversee and promote partnerships between federal and local officials on the issue. Harold Hurtt, a former police chief in Houston and Phoenix, has been hired as the director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of State and Local Coordination. …as a police chief, Hurtt was a supporter of “sanctuary city” policies, by which illegal immigrants who don't commit crimes can live without fear of exposure or detainment because police don't check for immigration papers. What other evidence do you need to prove that the Democrats are out of touch…and are just being stupid? added by: curtisreed

REVIEW: Oliver Stone’s Suck-Up Safari Dooms South of the Border

An extended belly-bump of a documentary, South of the Border is Oliver Stone’s feel-good take on the new South American politics. A vanity project by proxy, Stone attempts to restore (in the case of Hugo Chávez) and establish the reputations of the new guard of South American leadership, a superfriends conglomerate that rejects the imperial interests of the United States. Though he lavishes praise on his subjects for being hyper-masculine and free-thinking, Stone is downright girlish in his devotion, scoffing at charges made against the leaders rather than examining them. The plethora of Fox News-based inanity makes such elisions pretty easy: Obviously the haters — notably a pair of anchors who can’t tell the difference between cocoa and coca — are nuts, right?

War on drugs worse than drugs

I'M CONFUSED. When I walk around busy midtown Manhattan, I often smell marijuana. Despite the crowds, some people smoke weed in public. Usually the police leave them alone, and yet other times they act like a military force engaged in urban combat. This February, cops stormed a Columbia, Mo., home, killed the family dog and terrorized a 7-year-old boy — for what? A tiny quantity of marijuana. Two years ago, in Prince George's County, Md., cops raided Cheye Calvo's home — all because a box of marijuana was randomly shipped to his wife as part of a smuggling operation. Only later did the police learn that Calvo was innocent — and the mayor of that town. “When this first happened, I assumed it was just a terrible, terrible mistake,” Calvo said. “But the more I looked into it, the more I realized (it was) business as usual that brought the police through our front door. This is just what they do. We just don't hear about it. The only reason people heard about my story is that I happened to be a clean-cut white mayor.” Radley Balko of Reason magazine says more than a hundred police SWAT raids are conducted every day. Does the use of illicit drugs really justify the militarization of the police, the violent disregard for our civil liberties and the overpopulation of our prisons? It seems hard to believe. I understand that people on drugs can do terrible harm — wreck lives and hurt people. But that's true for alcohol, too. But alcohol prohibition didn't work. It created Al Capone and organized crime. Now drug prohibition funds nasty Mexican gangs and the Taliban. Is it worth it? I don't think so. Everything can be abused, but that doesn't mean government can stop it, or should try to stop it. Government goes astray when it tries to protect us from ourselves. Many people fear that if drugs were legal, there would be much more use and abuse. That's possible, but there is little evidence to support that assumption. In the Netherlands, marijuana has been legal for years. Yet the Dutch are actually less likely to smoke than Americans. Thirty-eight percent of American adolescents have smoked pot, while only 20 percent of Dutch teens have. One Dutch official told me that “we've succeeded in making pot boring.” By contrast, what good has the drug war done? It's been 40 years since Richard Nixon declared war on drugs. Since then, government has spent billions and officials keep announcing their “successes.” They are always holding press conferences showing off big drug busts. So it's not like authorities aren't trying. We've locked up 2.3 million people, a higher percentage than any other country. That allows China to criticize America's human-rights record because our prisons are “packed with inmates.” Yet drugs are still everywhere. The war on drugs wrecks far more lives than drugs do! Need more proof? Fox News runs stories about Mexican cocaine cartels and marijuana gangs that smuggle drugs into Arizona. Few stop to think that legalization would end the violence. There are no Corona beer smugglers. Beer sellers don't smuggle. They simply ship their product. Drug laws cause drug crime. The drug trade moved to Mexico partly because our government funded narcotics police in Colombia and sprayed the growing fields with herbicides. We announced it was a success! We cut way back on the Colombian drug trade. But so what? All we did was squeeze the balloon. The drug trade moved across the border to Peru, and now it's moved to Mexico. So the new president of Mexico is squeezing the balloon. Now the trade and the violence are spilling over the border into the United States. That's what I call progress. It is the kind of progress we don't need. Economist Ludwig von Mises wrote: “(O)nce the principle is admitted that it is the duty of the government to protect the individual against his own foolishness “

Aftermath of Gulf of Mexico ecocide: benzene rain?

Truth be told, dispersants are far from a panacea. They are first and foremost a public relation tool to manipulate public opinion into believing the oil spill is disappearing, digested by microbes. The dispersants keep the oil underwater and together have created a deadlier mix than oil and water. Out of sight, out of mind, and the American public, with an increasingly short attention span buys into it. In reality an oil spill treated with chemical dispersants poses an even greater ecological threat than the oil spill left alone. Corexit is an extremely toxic chemical dispersant. It was favored by BP over other alternative dispersants more ecologically friendly and with a better track record, mostly for cost reasons. It is estimated that more than 870,000 gallons (3.2 million litres) of Corexit has been used so far, either sprayed on the surface or released underwater-150,000 gallons (570,000 litres). Dispersants rely on wave movements shearing the oil film mechanically in order to refine crude oil into separate chemicals. This may have worked to some extent on the Exxon Valdez spill of Alaska where waves are big but in the Gulf of Mexico? Ever heard of a surfing competition in the gulf? The waves are just not there for the dispersant to work. Seven cleanup workers were hospitalized last week after complaints of headache, dizziness, breathing problems and nausea. The workers are said to have told the doctors, according to the medical centre sources, that the chemical dispersant used to break up oil had made them sick. Doctors believe the likely cause to be chemical irritation as well as dehydration from working in the heat. Manufactured by Nalco Energy Services L.P., the Material Safety Data Sheets state that Corexit 9500 cause irritation when in contact with skin, chemical pneumonia if ingested and irritation to the respiratory tract with repeated and prolonged inhalation. MSD of Corexit EC 9527A states: Symptoms of Exposure – Acute : Excessive exposure may cause central nervous system effects, nausea, vomiting, aesthetic or narcotic effects. – Chronic : Repeated or excessive exposure to butoxyethanol may cause injury to red blood cells (hemolysis), kidney or the liver. No toxicity studies have been conducted for either product, so the extent of damage is still not known. However, according to a study by Exxon, Corexit 9527 and Corexit 9580 have low to “moderate toxicity to most aquatic organisms in laboratory tests.” Corexit 9527 is also known to damage the red blood cells, leaving fishes to bleed to death. snip Know this: Most of the hydrocarbon chemicals extracted by the dispersants stay at the surface. They are the first ones to evaporate alongside water into clouds overhead that later fly over the continent and provide rain to the southern states. We are talking about chemicals causing cancer or kidney failure such as benzene and pretty much any possible chemical that can be extracted from crude oil. These chemicals would end up in water supplies, rain on crops, and eventually imbibed by humans and animals alike. The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts 8-14 hurricanes ,14-23 storms, and 3-7 major hurricanes-the figures higher than normal years. During the next few hurricanes, extreme shearing at the surface of the sea will boost the chemical action of dispersants which separate petroleum chemicals and suddenly increase the concentration of noxious chemicals evaporating from the spill. These hurricanes will carry this noxious cocktail across the southern US and north of Mexico, polluting the water supply and all that depend on it. snip How to recognize the signs that the spill aftermath rained inland: if after a downpour you notice that the road is slicker than usual, this is a sign the rain water may be contaminated if after a downpour any foliage appears waxy, and any white surface stained. crops and plants which whither unexpectedly after a downpour. The oily substance coating the leaves block respiration and photosynthesis. A lot of herbicides are petroleum-based (but so are fertilizers). cont. added by: JanforGore
