This is Atatiana Jefferson. She was 28 yrs old, a graduate of Xavier Univ. and lived w/ her nephew. Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, 28, died Saturday after a Forth Worth, Texas officer opened fire on her inside her house. NBC Dallas-Forth Worth reports that a neighbor called the police to report that Jefferson’s door was open. An officer who arrived on the scene peered into Atatiana’s window and spotted her and yelled, “Put your hands up — show me your hands,” before opening fire and shooting her. The young woman was shot once and although aid was rendered she was pronounced dead. The officer who killed Atatiana has yet to be identified but authorities tell NBC he’s on administrative leave pending an investigation. He’s also been confirmed as white. Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price released a statement on the shooting. “Writing a statement like this is tragic and something that should never be necessary. A young woman has lost her life, leaving her family in unbelievable grief. All of Fort Worth must surround Atatiana Jefferson’s family with prayers, love and support,” Price said. Mayor Price has promised a “complete and thorough investigation” to be conducted by Police Chief Ed Kraus, which will then be forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney Law Enforcement Incident Team. This is so incredibly tragic and sad. We’re thinking of the family and friends of Atatiana who lost their loved one for absolutely no reason.
A ccording to a report conducted by Nielsen, Black buying power is estimated to be $1.2 trillion and there are several entrepreneurs on a mission to ensure that those dollars are being circulated within the African American community. Danielle McGee created the website Black Business Boom as an avenue to connect consumers to Black-owned businesses throughout the country, the Chicago Defender reported. Entrepreneur Creates Coupon Program For Black-Owned Businesses to Compete With Groupon https://t.co/XDA1SxwymQ https://t.co/iG7BIKnGbP — Black America Cares (@BlackPeopleCare) October 11, 2019 Similar to the websites Groupon and Living Social, McGee’s platform features coupons for nearly 400 small Black-owned businesses. Both the website and app encompass a wide variety of products and services that span from beauty to auto. The platform also provides users with information about events and promotions from Black-owned businesses and features location-based advertising. Black Business Boom was developed to highlight businesses and build a solid foundation for customer loyalty. “I started Black Business Boom because Black-owned businesses typically have less access to funding, which consequently limits their ability to spend money on marketing,” McGee said in a statement. “Our platform is an affordable way for small business owners to generate revenue while attracting loyal customers.” She also stressed the importance of putting action behind social movements surrounding the support of Black-owned businesses by providing people with the resources needed to take actionable steps towards fulfilling the mission. There have been several digital platforms created to support Black-owned businesses. After truck driver Edward Dillard found it hard to locate African American-owned restaurants during his coast to coast shifts on the road—especially on the outskirts of major cities—he launched the platform Eat Black Owned . The website is a national directory of over 2,000 Black-owned eateries. Users can locate restaurants based on their geographical location. For years now, Chelsea Houska has enjoyed her role as the most drama-free of all the Teen Moms. That may seem like an easy title to obtain when you’re competing with the likes of Jenelle Evans, but for a long time, Chelsea’s life was characterized by conflict and uncertainty, thanks to her relationship with Adam Lind. Fortunately, things have since settled down for the mother of two. In fact, ever since Chelsea married Cole DeBoer in 2016, she’s become something of an aspirational figure — living proof that the combination of teenage motherhood and reality TV stardom need not make a complete mess of one’s adult life. But on this week’s episode of Teen Mom 2 , Chelsea once again found herself at the center of controversy, as some fans took issue with a conversation between Houska and her mother, Mary. The discussion concerned land that Chelsea and Cole had purchased on which to build their new home. The plot is about 45 minutes away from where Chelsea currently lives, a fact which upset Mary for two reasons: 1. She’ll now have to drive for nearly an hour to spend time with her grandkids, and 2. Isn’t every part of South Dakota exactly the same anyway? (Okay, we may have made that last part up.) “I am just sick,” Mary said to Chelsea . “But I don’t want to make you mad and all crazy if I say something.” “Okay, mom. What do you have to say about it?” Chelsea said (with a bit of an attitude, if you believe some viewers.) “I just can’t … I don’t even like to talk about it. It’s just so sad for me,” replied a tearful Mary. “We’re going to be 45 minutes away,” Chelsea shot back. “You have kids that live in Florida and Texas.” “No, I know,” Mary said. “It isn’t so much that you’re leaving, cause it isn’t that far. But you gotta think of it rationally. “One, you’re only 15 minutes from me now, I’m by myself. I have to drive all the way down there after 5 [p.m.] cause I work til 5 [p.m.]. I can’t just get off, you know,” said Mary. “I just felt like it was too fast. You know, you kinda told me about it.” Chelsea responded, “I know, but you don’t know what we do and what we talk about and what we look at.” “Just don’t rush into anything. Just really really think about it, cause I’m not trying to like,” Mary said. ”I’m not trying to sound like I’m selfish, cause I kinda am.” “I understand how you feel,” Chelsea interjected. “But I mean, these kids are all I got anymore. I’m gonna cry,” Mary said, beginning to sob. “And just to think of you that far … I can’t get down there very much. I can’t go to every game. Or even in the winter, there’s no way I can drive — I don’t even now like to drive at night.” It went on like this, and Chelsea tried to end things on a positive note, promising her mom: “I’m sorry. We have to do what we feel is right, though. No matter what, we’re going to make it so you don’t feel like this. It’s not going to be as bad as you think it is.” Hey, anyone with aging parents can relate, right? Well, apparently not, as Chelsea was judged rather harshly on Twitter: “I [heart] Chelsea & she’s my fave mom, but the no sympathy for your mother when she’s that upset & crying in front of u is extremely saddening to me. I could never stand in front of my mother that upset & trivialize her feelings & get irritated about them the way u just did,” tweeted one fan, as pointed out by In Touch Weekly . “I love Chelsea but I HATE the way she’s talking to her mom.. #TeenMom2,” another chimed in. Some fans even went so far as to claim that Chelsea’s (allegedly) poor treatment of her mother is a result of Mary and Randy Houska’s contentious divorce several years ago: “Chelsea has always been so hard and genuinely sh–ty to her mom. I’m sure it’s a byproduct of divorce, kids take sides, but it sucks and it doesn’t look good on her #teenmom2,” And then there was the harsh critic who issued this devastating low blow: “Chelsea reminds me of Jenelle a little bit how she be talking to her mom,” the viewer wrote. Hey, there might be room for disagreement with regard to how Chelsea handled the situation with her mother. But comparing her to Jenelle? That’s a bridge too far, folks! Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN T yler Perry is leading the way when it comes to Black people building power in the entertainment industry and his latest venture is history in the making. According to CBS News , Perry hosted a grand opening for his massive Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta this past weekend. The film complex covers 330 acres and includes 12 sound stages. It’s actually larger than the Burbank, California lots owned by Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros and Paramount combined. If that isn’t news enough, Perry is the first Black American to own a major film studio, period. Celebrity attendees for the grand opening included samuel l. jackson , oprah winfrey , beyoncé and Spike Lee . Perry went on to say that despite Hollywood not getting him, “I know what I do is important. I know what I do touches millions of people around the world. I know how important every word, every joke, every laugh [is]. I know what that does for the people where I come from and the people that I’m writing for. So, yeah, I get that.” Perry is the creative behind 22 movies, 20 plays and eight TV shows. All of his work has led to this moment. He explained: “I know for a fact that when I drive in through these gates, onto this 330 acres and see these 12 sound stages, and see the highway sign that says ‘Tyler Perry Studios’ as you’re making to the exit in here, as I come in here and I see these hundreds of people working, these black and brown – I’ve been on sets where I’ve been the only black face on, only black face , as recently as 2019 going, ‘Where are the black people in this movie?’ Back behind the camera? So, when I come to work here and every black person that comes to work here they go, ‘Oh my God, it’s heaven. Here we are. We’re represented.’ Where everybody’s represented. LGBTQ’s represented. Black, white, gay, straight, whatever. We’re all represented, working hand-in-hand, arm-in-arm.” Tyler Perry Studios was built on part of Fort McPherson military base, which was once used by the Confederate army. Perry called it “poetic justice” that his Black-owned studio is now housed on land that was once used to uphold slavery. The 12 sound stages at Tyler Perry Studios are each named after seminal Black actors and actresses including cicely tyson and the recently deceased Diahann Carroll . Included with the 12 sound stages is a full-on replica of The White House where Perry shoots his upcoming BET show “The Oval”. Perry says this is only the beginning for his historical studio. He also told Gayle King in his “CBS This Morning” interview , “I tell you what I’m most excited about next is that pulling this next phase off is building a compound for trafficked women, girls, homeless women, LGBTQ youth who are put out and displaced and having a compound that is a beautiful place, right here somewhere on these 330 acres, where they’re trained in the business and they become self-sufficient, they live in nice apartments, there’s daycare, there’s all these wonderful things that allows them to reenter society and then pay it forward again.” SEE ALSO: Everything We Know About Momolu Stewart, The Man Kim Kardashian Helped To Get Released From Prison After Over 20 Years Penn State Slams Racist Fan Who Sent Star Player ‘Disgusting’ Dreadlocks Letter [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3888948″ overlay=”true”]

Some things just aren’t meant to last forever. Don’t get us wrong, Rachel Lindsay married Bryan Abasolo after a long engagement. But she and Raven Gates had a massive falling out. Now, Colton Underwood is trying his hand at feuding and suggesting that Rachel must just hate everyone . Rachel Lindsay’s falling out with former bestie Raven Gates was pretty conspicuous after Raven missed every stage of Rachel’s wedding. So naturally, when Rachel appeared on Watch What Happens Live this week, fans got all kinds of nosy about it. In fact, Andy reveals that it was the number one question that fans had to ask. They asked her about that more than about her marriage to Bryan or about her thoughts on Peter as the 24th non-black Bachelor in a row . So when it came time to take phoned-in questions, Rachel responded. Rachel responds my shaking her head in chagrin. “What did she do to cause your falling out?” Andy asks. Rachel protests: “I can’t say. I promised I wouldn’t say.” “But,” Rachel offers. “It was enough for me to not want to be friends with her anymore.” “And you’re still not friends with her,” Andy asks for some almost pointless clarification. “No,” Rachel confirms. “Not at all. And I never will be.” Addressing it with Andy only made people more aware of Rachel and Raven’s falling out. For some reason, another member of the Bachelor Fam decided to weigh in. “Shocker,” Colton Underwood wrote on Instagram, his text dripping with sarcasm. “Rachel mad at another person?” his sarcastic comment continued. He then quits marveling in non-surprise and poses a semi-serious question. Colton asks: “Does she like anyone ?!” (Raven and Rachel are both extremely hot, especially in some of the photos in this post, so you’re welcome for balancing it out with Colton) Wait, does Colton have a beef with Rachel? When did that happen? “I’m not weighing in on the Rachel/Raven drama,” Colton clarified. And yet … that seems to be exactly what he chose to do. “I could care less about that,” he emphasized. “Not my business.” He then explains exactly why he decided to pipe up about Rachel being some sort of Negative Nelly. “What is my business,” Colton wrote. “Is the countless number of times she’s spoke poorly of me…” Countless times? It’s good to remember that not every Bachelor Fam conversation goes public. He continued, accusing: “including that time she ran her mouth about me to Cassie…” Oh, yeah, we could understand why he’d be annoyed about that. “Funny thing is,” the previously virginal hunk concluded. “I have never met her.” Naturally, you don’t have to have met someone to have an opinion — even a strong one — about them. That’s sort of what the Bachelor franchise is all about. Sure, the stars look for love, but millions of viewers form opinions. Rachel doesn’t have to meet Colton to decide that he’s, say, not the right man for Cassie to marry. By that same token, Colton doesn’t have to meet Rachel to decide that she’s been uncharitable towards him. Maybe they should hang out and get to know each other. We hear that Rachel is down a friend, anyway. In the mean time, we’ll continue to wonder what in the world Raven could have done for Rachel to permanently excise her from her life. Source: Taylor Hill / Getty James Franco Sued For Alleged Sexual Exploitation Actor James Franco is being sued over sexual misconduct that allegedly occurred at his acting school , Studio 4. According to the reports from The New York Times , Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal have both filed a lawsuit against Franco along with his business partner Vince Jolivette, accusing the men of sexually exploiting students at the now defunct school. In the suit, Franco and Jolivette’s Rabbit Bandini Productions company is also listed as a defendant along with the company’s general manager Jay Davis. Tither-Kaplan and Gaal are former students of the school, which shut down completely in 2017. In the suit, they say that Franco and his partners “engaged in widespread inappropriate and sexually charged behavior towards female students by sexualizing their power as a teacher and an employer by dangling the opportunity for roles in their projects.” The women go on to explain that they joined the Los Angeles branch of Studio 4 in 2014, paying approximately $300 in monthly tuition. The plaintiffs claim the school also offered additional classes, which included a $750 master class for sex scenes, specifically. According to the lawsuit, any students who were interested in taking the sex scene class were required to submit an audition tape for Franco to review; which also required students to forfeit their rights to the footage. In the lawsuit, Gaal claims she auditioned for the master class, but ended up being denied entry after she expressed some uneasiness. Tither-Kaplan, on the other hand, said she ultimately took the class, which actually led to several roles in Franco’s independent films. In these roles she said she was often asked to appear in nude scenes or sex scenes. During the making of an orgy scene for one of his films, Franco went as far as removing plastic guards that covered other actresses’ vaginas while he simulated oral sex on them, according to the lawsuit. This is not the first time we’re hearing of these accusations about Franco from Tither-Kaplan. She previously spoke about her experiences at Studio 4 in a 2018 article in the Los Angeles Times . She also took to Twitter to blast James Franco for sporting a Times Up pin at the 2018 Golden Globes ceremony, given his own actions behind-the-scenes. Hey James Franco, nice #timesup pin at the #GoldenGlobes , remember a few weeks ago when you told me the full nudity you had me do in two of your movies for $100/day wasn't exploitative because I signed a contract to do it? Times up on that! — Sarah Tither-Kaplan (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018 Franco addressed the accusations against him shortly following the 2018 Golden Globes. “In my life, I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I have done. I have to do that to maintain my well being, ” he said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert . “… The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate. But I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So, I don’t want to shut them down in any way … If I have done something wrong. I will fix it. I have to.” Now, after filing the lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Tither-Kaplan told the Times she hasn’t spoken to Franco in two years and that he has yet to make amends. Tither-Kaplan and Gaal are seeking monetary damages along with the return or destruction of any video recordings submitted by former Studio 4 students. The plaintiffs are also seeking “class-action status so other women who may have similar histories with the defendants can join in the suit.”
Hannah Gosselin’s eldest, twins Mady and Cara, have left for college and are breathing free air for the first times in their lives. While Kate tries to elicit sympathy by mourning Hannah’s absence from family trips, she has another bone to pick. Kate says that the world has been so unfair to her family. Girl, go look in a mirror. Kate Gosselin took to Instagram to share a photo of her eldest daughters. “I love these kids fiercely,” Kate writes, referring specifically to Mady and Cara. “And,” she adds. “I don’t apologize for my tears.” “Times have been so tough,” Kate complains. “And,” she notes. “So needlessly unfair for them.” Awwww, they’re all grown up! Well, you know, they’re adults. “Grown up” seems to start around 30 and it is not as fun as it sounds. “Despite it all,” Kate continues. “They’ve turned out to be such wonderful amazing human beings.” “I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for each of them,” she expresses. Kate looks forward to seeing their progress “once they get away from those who have tried to destroy them versus protect them!” Naturally, she also plugs her show, Kate Plus 8 . Back in May, Mady opened up about how much she and Cara are looking forward to college. “College feels like a place to blend in,” Mady expressed. She continued: “and I feel like we haven’t really had much of a chance to really blend in.” “And,” she stated. “I want to be just like somebody.” You know that you’ve had quite the childhood when your firmest wish for your university experience is anonymity . “I don’t want to know everybody’s name,” Mady continued. She added: “and I don’t want to know everybody’s business.” “And I don’t want everyone to know my name and my business,” Mady emphasized. She’s not quite saying that she doesn’t want to make any friends. It sounds more like she wants to blend into the crowd. “I feel like big college is the way we want to go,” she concluded. “She was not able to come and that’s sad,” Kate said in a recent clip to explain why Hannah was not joining a “family” trip. Kate accused: “That’s the second trip here actually for us that she hasn’t been with us.” “It was sad for us because you know, they’re getting older and they’re making different choices and they’re doing different things,” she said. Kate continued: “And she opted to stay back with her dad, which again, you know, her choice.” “It’s not optimal for mom,” she admitted. “But it’s something that I support and you know, we just adjust and move on.” So what does Kate mean when she says that her two eldest daughters have faced so much unfairness? Does she mean that it’s unfair to be thrust into reality stardom as a child because your parents are thirsty for fame? Does she mean that no child deserves to grow up in an abusive household ? Or does Kate mean that two children would have been enough, and she robbed her eldest twins of any hope of a normal life by having six more? All of these are great point. But because Kate is the culprit in each case, we strongly doubt that this is her meaning. We wish Mady and Cara the very best at their (undisclosed) universities! We’re sure that they have a long road to recovering from having Kate as a mom. View Slideshow: Jon Gosselin: TLC Was Gonna Pay Me $1 Million to Stay Married to Kate!
This Is Us just did it again. We guess we shouldn’t be surprised at this point. And yet: That’s sort of the whole point, isn’t it? On This Is Us Season 4 Episode 1 , which aired Tuesday evening on NBC, the beloved drama shifted our focus from its core characters to a bunch fo newbies… prior to wrapping up the premiere with yet another twist that brought everything together. Appropriately titled “Strangers,” the episode introduced fans to: Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison), an intense military officer whose wartime stint in Afghanistan left her detached, drinking and not very close to her husband, Ryan (Nick Wechsler), and their young son. After losing some control, along with her loved ones, Cassidy sought assistance from a veteran’s support group. From there, we saw her first meeting was interrupted by… Griffin Dunne’s Nicky , who hurled a chair through the window in a fit of drunken anger. Then there was Malik (Asante Blackk), a teenager who’s attempting to provide for a young daughter — at any cost. This new character’s parents are Darnell (Omar Epps) and Kelly (Marsha Stephanie Blake), who shower him with affection and also plenty of babysitting. Darnell made sure that Malik had a few moments of carefree bliss at a friend’s barbecue, where the latter grew instantly smitten with a new-to-Philly girl whose name is… Deja (Lyric Ross). Following along so far? Because we’re about to change time periods. In a flash-forward, viewers met a bold, quippy, struggling blind musician … who married the waitress at the diner he happened to visit by happenstance … and is now enjoying burgeoning fame, because this guy is… Jack (Blake Stadnik). Yes, present-day premature son of Kate and Toby! Both grandmother and mother had music dreams — and Jack was the one who seemed to turn similar dreams into an actual, successful reality. There’s your major Season 4 premiere twist, folks. Elsewhere, however, this opener was anchored in the past, traveling back to the early 1970s as Jack and Rebecca returned from their amazing road trip and were feeling out the possibilities of this new romance. Jack was invited to meet her parents (the incomporable Elizabeth Perkins and Tim Matheson) at a country club dinner, where our favorite underdog Vietnam veteran managed to impress everyone at the table. Ultimately, however, Rebecca’s father shook his hand … and told Jack that wasn’t good enough for his daughter. That’s a lot to take in overall, of course. Thankfully, showrunner Dan Fogelman spoke to Entertainment Weekly and broke down this shocking This Is Us premiere. Why did he introduce new characters in this fashion? Normally you would meet characters through the eyes of your main characters, which always gives you a little bit of a skewed perspective, because you’re meeting them through our characters. But that’s not how you meet strangers in real life. The first time you meet the person who becomes your husband or wife or your new boss or your business partner, they’ve had a whole life before you and the meeting with them is your first experience of them. So I wanted to give the audience that feeling of getting to know these people before you got to know them in relation to our main characters. What will the relationship between Cassidy and Kevin be like? The relationship is complicated, it’s formative, and it’s a very deep, interesting, bizarre relationship. And whether or not it’s ever romantic is for the series to delve into a little bit later on. But it’s an interesting thing when you look back — she’s going to be somebody who adjusts a part of the course of Kevin’s life. As is the entire first half of the season that he’s embarking on. How far might the show flash forward? Beyond Jack at the concert? I mean, anything’s possible. It’s not in the current plan right now… We do have plans for the future and that which we call “the deeper future” — because we call it the one where Rebecca’s in bed “the deep future” — but I think we would only being going past that linearly. Meaning a continuation of where we’ve been with Jack, but not even jumping further into the 2300s or anything like that. How will Jack’s blindness affect Kate and Toby in the present day going forward? It’s a gigantic story… Raising a child is a complicated process, and raising a blind child comes with extra challenges. Obviously, having a newborn child — with or without sight — is a challenging time for young parents. For any parents. You’re snipping at each other, you’re exhausted. [Now] there’s added stuff. This was not expected. It’s a surprise and that’s a big part of their season this year. View Slideshow: 13 TV Shows Canceled Way Too Soon
