Kevin Hart Takes Bryan Cranston To The Projects In Philly | Extra Butter

See the rest here:

Eddie Murphy went from movies like Trading Places and Coming To America to movies like Dream Girls and Mr. Church. In fact, a lot the comedic greats have gone from comedy to more dramatic pieces in their Hollywood lives. Kevin Hart has taken his first step into drama with The Upside starring Bryan Cranston. Ironically this turns out to be one of Kevin’s funniest movies yet. Today on Extra Butter with Xilla Valentine we take a look at The Upside. Based on a French blockbuster and true story, Phillip, played by Cranston, is a wealthy quadriplegic who needs a caretaker to help him with his day-to-day routine in his New York penthouse. He decides to hire Dell, played by Hart, a struggling parolee who’s trying to reconnect with his ex and his young son. Dell starts out reluctant not taking this job seriously but over the movie the two build a bond together filled with ups and downs that lead to many hilarious moments. We get to see Kevin show off his chops for dramatic acting and I asked him if this was something we could see him doing more of, Kevin told us “I think there is a lot more to be seen, I think I have a lot more depth, but it’s just about me picking the right projects to show that and make sure I do it, in a timely fashion.” Kevin then adds that he’s not in a rush to become a full-time dramatic actor but he intends to give his fans a nice journey before he eventually ends up doing more dramas. One of the best scenes is when Dell takes Phillip to pick up his son in one of Phillip’s luxury cars in order to show his son what he’s doing for a living. The trio has a great time that leads to a big dramatic moment outside of the projects with Bryan Cranston, and Kevin Hart. I asked them if Bryan was really outside of the projects in that scene and Kevin burst into laughter and they both tell a hilarious story about the scene. Kevin revealed, “I would just keep apologizing, I’m sorry. I’m home.” Bryan also shares some great career advice for anyone who has been getting in their own way like the characters in this film. Bryan said if you want success you have to tell yourself, “I gotta get strategic about this if I want to get over here, what are the steps that are going to get me there? Then you have to be willing to put in the work. There is no shortcut, there is no magic potion. You have to put in the work and the hours if you’re going to achieve anything.” Overall I think The Upside hilarious and if it could end up surprising a lot of folk at the box office. Its one of Kevin’s best film and it’s the same greatness you expect from Bryan Cranston. It’s definitely worth checking out as it hits theaters everywhere Friday, January 11th.

Alexis Ren’s Sweet Tiny Booty

I’m still waiting for  Alexis Ren to take my career advice and ditch those Instagram modeling gigs of hers for a much more practical job: porn. But until that day, at least we’ve got the next best thing. AKA these new GIFs of Alexis’ booty on Snapchat. It’s not quite porn, but hey, look on the bright side, at least this way, you can still look at it at the office without getting flagged by HR.

Snooki Says She Had ‘A Good Time’ Before Arrest

‘I didn’t hurt anybody,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star jokes on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ By Jocelyn Vena Snooki on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday Photo: ABC Snooki doesn’t seem all that fazed by her arrest and subsequent disorderly conduct conviction after an incident that took place while “Jersey Shore” was filming its third season in Seaside Heights, New Jersey over the summer. She stopped by “Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel” on Thursday (September 23), and she laughed off the incident when it came up. “What are you gonna do? Somebody’s gotta do it [and be annoying on the beach],” she joked. “I think it was a little too overboard. Obviously I started drinking at 10 a.m. and it escalated to being wasted at 12, and that’s why I got arrested. But I had a good time doing it and I didn’t hurt anybody.” What led to Snooki getting a bit out of hand at the Shore? “I was drinking SoCo, vodka, [J

Adam Lambert Recalls Lady Gaga, Madonna Career Advice

‘You just have to count on yourself and go for it,’ Lambert says Gaga told him. By Jocelyn Vena Adam Lambert Photo: Kevin Parry/ WireImage Adam Lambert has managed to speed through every stage of fame during his brief time as a celebrity. He’s been loved by his fans, hated by his critics, released an album and hit the road for his first headlining tour . And Lambert has managed to deal with all the pressures of fame thanks to some great advice he’s gotten from two very famous ladies. “She told me about the previous three years. She worked really, really hard before she made it. She told me there’s no glamour, you don’t get a lot of sleep, you don’t get a lot of stability in your social life — you just have to count on yourself and go for it. It was a good pep talk,” Lambert told Australia’s news.com.au about his pal Lady Gaga ‘s advice. “And she was right.” Like Gaga, Madonna, has warned Lambert about some of the negative sides of fame, including all those haters. “She told me that you can’t get wrapped up in all the media and message boards, that everyone’s going to have an opinion. People will criticize you, especially when you’re doing it well. You can’t do much better than getting career advice from Madonna,” he said. “She’s the queen, right? I’ve [learned] there are plenty of challenges, but if you work hard enough you can arrive. You find a spot for yourself and get to communicate with your art and hopefully inspire people. That’s what I’m working towards.” Like both those iconic women, Lambert has become a bit of a face for the gay community. But he doesn’t want that to be the only thing he’s known as. “I’m very comfortable with my sexuality and I have no qualms talking about it,” he said. “It’s important for me to be bold about it. There are not a lot of examples of that in pop culture. I’m happy to fill that role. “But I did an interview the other day and every question was a sensationalized question about being gay and the gay lifestyle. There’s a fine line,” he continued. “As open as I am to mentioning it, I’m not a gay spokesman. I’m a singer. I’m an entertainer who happens to be gay. I’m going to work hard with the next album to make that the message. When the first line is ‘Openly gay singer Adam Lambert …’ it gets a little frustrating. The singer part should definitely come first. That’s what I do.” Related Photos Adam Lambert’s Wild “American Idol” Journey Related Artists Adam Lambert Madonna Lady Gaga

‘Iron Man 2’ Director Jon Favreau Reveals Deleted Scenes

‘There are scenes that I like that don’t fit into the movie,’ Favreau says of the future DVD extras. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jon Favreau Photo: MTV News For decades, the stuff of Hollywood legend has been created by independently-minded directors and bottom-line-loving studio suits clashing over the final cut of a film. Sometimes, the studio is right ( “28 Days Later” comes to mind), and sometimes the filmmaker needs to be left alone (see: “Brazil” ), but these battles are more common than you’d think. So it should come as no surprise that Marvel and “Iron Man 2” director Jon Favreau — got along splendidly? “Yeah, yeah, there’s another cut that I would have had that’s, like, 50 minutes longer,” the filmmaker teased sarcastically when asked if he had one of the increasingly popular “director’s cut” versions that film fans see everywhere these days. “No, it doesn’t work that way at Marvel.” When we visited the set of the new superhero film , we saw Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. working closely with the laid-back, jeans-and-baseball-hat-wearing head of Marvel Studios — and Favs assured us that it wasn’t just for show. “That’s the nice thing about working at Marvel; they’re very supportive of the director. I’ve been given a lot of creative freedom there,” he said. “Kevin Feige, who runs the studio and is also the producer, is a partner creatively. And when we make changes, it’s ones that we’re all comfortable with. “I like to be very collaborative with them,” he continued. “So it’s not like there is a version that they strong-armed me into not using. I stand behind the one that is out there.” Somebody might want to give some career advice to Terry Gilliam and urge him to take on a Marvel flick. For his part, however, Favreau does admit there were a handful of scenes that came closer to making the film than others. “There are scenes that I like that don’t fit into the movie that I think are great, and I’ve included them in the DVD,” Favreau revealed. “It was like the thing where Gwyneth kisses the helmet and throws it out [of the airplane]. … There’s a [deleted] scene that leads up to that. It’s wonderful, but what it does is ruin the surprise and ruins the momentum of the movie in the beginning. “[The scene occurs] on a real C17 that we shot it on,” he explained. “But there’s a little bit of a misdirect that we wanted to sell, and the reveal of him landing on the stage being revealed for the first time was better. Also, [Paltrow’s character] Pepper had two introduction scenes, and so, structurally, there were issues with it that are hard to explain unless you see the whole cut.” Another deleted scene involved Scarlett Johansson, a repulsor and some heavy flirtation. “That one’s an interesting one, because the relationship between Tony and Pepper is so special to the audience that it’s [delicate],” Favreau said of making Johansson’s sensual character appear to be too close to Tony. “If you let him and Scarlett get too flirty and get too close, the audience turns off really quickly, because they really want to root for [Tony and Pepper] together.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Iron Man 2.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . How LiLo Overplayed Her Hand with Bungled European Escort Gig

Billionaire Richard Lugner —Austria’s crown prince of nouveau riche—pays an estimated $150K each year for a celebrity escort to the Vienna Opera Ball . Lindsay Lohan landed this year’s gig—but apparently bungled the details so badly, Lugner said das fuggedaboudit . Every year, four-time divorcé Lugner horrifies Viennese high society anew by paying for the most inappropriate date possible , then basking in the light of a thousand flashbulbs. He’s had some triumphs ( Sophia Loren in 1995) but in general, standing next to Lugner means you are either over the hill ( Ivana Trump in 1994, Carmen Electra in 2005, and Dita von Teese in 2008 was arguably a turning point to overexposure) or never had much dignity to begin with ( Paris Hilton in 2007, Pam Anderson and Kid Rock in 2003). LiLo had reservations about Lugner from the beginning. First she reportedly asked Lugner if he could reschedule the ball . (Um, no.) She needed the hotel minibar destroyed in advance. She refused to vet her gown. The final straw: She missed her flight to Vienna, and “her card’s credit limit was not high enough” to pay the private jet to wait, Lugner said , backhandedly acknowledging that the ordeal was mostly transactional. She rejected a second, shared aircraft because ” she would not be able to get any sleep while traveling in it. ” Also, Lindsay had to wash her hair that night, and had a headache, and felt a cold coming on. Which is too bad, because high-end escorting would be a good way for Lindsay to earn her nut. The painful truth is that, at the tender age of 23, Lindsay—like so many of Lugner’s beauties—is past her prime. Her dignity dissipated somewhere around the fourth time forgetting panties, her acting career is in shambles, and her forays into the fashion world come off as desperate. Lindsay does, however, have one great talent: Looking gloriously skanky amid (someone else’s) fabulous wealth. ( Remember St. Bart’s? She was so happy there. This girl was born to cavort in bikinis on yachts. ) Which is why international high-end party-for-pay girl is where she’s headed—and something she’ll be good at. It’s not the same, mind you, as being a prostitute. It’s more like being Tara Reid , hosting NYE parties at European mega-clubs and attending the occasional shindig in Dubai. Since Lindsay was legitimately A-list once, she’d be the most high-priced jewel in the international starlet-collecting jetset’s crown. (And don’t pretend money isn’t an issue, Linds. We know your family squandered it, and we recognize it wasn’t your fault—at first.) High-end escorting is no less dignified than what she’s doing here ( tabloid confessionals about hoarding? ) and if she actually sticks with this ” saving the children of the world ” thing, she’ll have plenty of time for that, too. She might even meet (male) foreign dignitaries who can help her. But the best thing about international pay-for-partying is that she will get out of the U.S. press for a while. When she returns, we’ll hate her less ( look how nice everyone was about Tara Reid’s engagement ) and she’ll be able to afford the things she wants, that Americans won’t give her anymore. ( Champagne no longer runs freely for little Lindsay .) If the young girl goes west, west, and still further west she’ll traverse the whole world outside of America, where she is still a spring chicken. In Austria, they call Lindsay “Disney’s fallen princess.” Here, she’s just “fallen.”

Five Actors Who Almost Made It and the Long Road Back

Reading about the comeback struggle of American Beauty weirdo Wes Bentley yesterday got us thinking about other youngish, once-promising stars who made a big initial splash and then mostly disappeared. Let’s give some career advice to Bentley and four others. Wes Bentley Bentley came roaring onto the scene as the skull-capped suitor to Kevin Spacey’s daughter in American Beauty , Sam Mendes’ 1998 popcorn take on suburban ennui. He had a piercing gaze and a wolfish brow and, sure yeah, he could act pretty well. Big leading man roles in duds like the thriller Soul Survivors and the nearly unwatchable epic The Four Feathers (alongside other up-and-comers Kate Hudson and Heath Ledger) followed soon after, but nothing connected and he faded away. The Times profile reveals that he’s been dealing with drug abuse problems, so that’s too bad. The Road Back: Bentley is starring in the well-received off-Broadway play Venus in Fur at the moment, so, you know… theatre is good. But movies and TV! That’s where it’s really at. He’s definitely not ready for some big starring film role yet, but what if he joins the cast of Nurse Jackie as some weirdo holistic doctor who confounds Jackie with his hippie-dippy bullshit but draws her in with that yards-long stare of his? Alison Lohman Lohman made her first big impression as a dreamy but troubled teen going through the foster care system in the underrated White Oleander , and did solid follow-up work in Ridley Scott’s similarly underrated Matchstick Men . And then… well, not a whole hell of a lot. She popped up in kiddie flick Flicka , the drowsy dud Things We Lost in the Fire , and last year’s deliberately kitschy horror b-grader Drag Me to Hell . At 30, Lohman is still young enough to play ingenue, especially given her porcelain baby face, and yet the roles haven’t come. Maybe it’s a personal decision, who knows, but we feel like she could be doing a lot more. The Road Back: Lohman is such an ethereal, slightly odd presence, which makes her interesting but also a bit hard to cast. She’d be perfect in a Terrence Malick movie — all dazed lyricism and angelic blonde hair. She’s also got the kind of melancholy that’s perfect for the current spate of bittersweet indie romantic dramadies ( (500) Days of summer , the upcoming Blue Valentine ), so she’d be smart to do one of those. Paired up with… Oh, let’s say the delicious all-American sandwich that is Zach Gilford . Samantha Mathis Remember her? The young star of Pump Up the Volume did some big movies in her time — Little Women , Broken Arrow , a small role in The American President — but she never quite hit the way we thought she would. In recent years she’s done some stage work, lots of TV guest spots (like Olivia the Dharma teacher on Lost ), but nothing to match her early-mid ’90s heat. She’s an appealing actress, warm and frank, and we’d like to see more of her. Even though she’s like 39 or something, and thus ancient. The Road Back: Theater is good! We like theater. But, again, movies and TV are really what everyone needs. Mathis should aim for juicy smaller parts in classy independents — she has the face, if not always the carriage, for period pieces — and some smart TV work. Maybe she could appear alongside Gretchen Mol in a few episodes of the upcoming Boardwalk Empire . Or we liked her toting a gun well enough in Broken Arrow to think she’d make a good foil for Timothy Olyphant on his new Elmore Leonard series, Justified . Kip Pardue The golden boy actor, who played football at Yale and was an Abercrombie & Fitch model, seemed destined for big things when he was cast in that Sylvester Stallone racing movie Driven and in Remember the Titans . But then despite his drive, no one remembered him (get it?). Maybe he was hyped to the point of premature saturation, like a more male but no less blonde Gretchen Mol. The guy really hasn’t done anything of note since the well-received 2005 indie Loggerheads (movies called Slightly Single in LA and Stag Night do not count), but we remember him being a reasonably talented fellow in things like The Rules of Attraction , so it might be interesting to see him back on the scene. The Road Back: He’ll need a lot of work, mostly because people don’t really remember who he is. So let’s get him a nice meaty theater role to up his cred — Joe Pitt in the upcoming Angels in America revival, perhaps (he looks so much like Patrick Wilson!) — and then put him on an established but still-hot show, something like Damages . Or maybe he could be the pretty-boy serial killer on the next season of creatively-soaring Dexter . You know, something like that: a role that, sure, exploits his looks, but also shows off those Ivy League acting chops (he graduated with an Econ degree, but whatever). Alicia Silverstone Oh, Cher. After breaking out a bit too big in the 1995 smash Clueless , Silverstone struggled to define herself as a “real” actress. She was also beset with a less-than-emaciated figure, which pretty much nixed her chances at big-time movie stardom. She’s done smaller film roles, some theater (she’s currently in the twice-extended Broadway production Time Stands Still , opposite Laura Linney), and her own ill-fated comeback TV project, Miss Match . She remains a kind and appealing actress, so let’s make her a star again. The Road Back: Again, the theater is always a good start. It gets you respect, you meet interesting and dedicated actors, and there’s a lot more of it to do. To get back on the screen, we think Silverstone ought to go the Mathis route of aiming for smaller parts in prestige pictures, much like she’s doing right now sharing the stage with Linney. Silverstone could get hot by association, and before you know it she’s starring in her own HBO comedy series about a bored and slightly frumpy fading Midwestern sorority girl who decides one lonely drunken night to move to New York and try her hand at acting school. There are many other folks who fit the just-slightly-missed-it bill — people like Chris Evans , Barry Pepper , Marley Shelton , Radha Mitchell, Estella Warren (Pardue’s costar in Driven ) and Derek Luke . Who’s an actor you thought was going to hit big but then mysteriously fizzled?
