Roman Reigns Opens Up About Ongoing Battle With Leukemia: “I Will Beat This & I Will Be Back”

Source: Sheri Determan/WENN Pro-wrestler  Leati Joseph Anoaʻi , more affectionately known as Roman Reigns, is relinquishing his claim to the WWE Universal Championship. Sadly, he has another battle to fight—leukemia. Reigns announced on Monday that he’d been dealing with cancer for 11 years of his life and now, it’s returned. Kicking off WWE’s Monday Night Raw he said, “When I was 22 years old, I was diagnosed with this. And very quickly I was able to put it in remission. But I’m not going to lie, that was the hardest time in my life. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have any money, I didn’t have a home and I had a baby on the way.” He made it clear, however, that he plans on getting back in the ring soon. “I want to make one thing clear—by no means is this a retirement speech,” he said. “I will beat this and I will be back, so you will see me very very soon.” Following Reign’s emotional announcement, John Cena and Mick Foley tweeted out words of support . ‘Courage – strength in the face of pain or grief.’ You have given us your everything including a courageously vulnerable moment. We, your WWE family, give you all of our love and support. #ThankYouRoman #NeverGiveUp — John Cena (@JohnCena) October 23, 2018 I’m just learning now of @WWERomanReigns leukemia diagnosis. Stunned. I liked and respected him from the moment I met him. Sending my very best wishes and prayers for you, Joe. — Mick Foley (@RealMickFoley) October 23, 2018 We are keeping Reigns in our prayers. No Grammys For You! Frank Ocean Disqualified From 2017 Grammy Awards Due To Missed Filing Deadline

Frank Ocean Misses Deadline For 2017 Grammy Awards Well, there’s at least one name you can be sure you won’t see when the 2017 Grammy nominees are announced on December 8. Despite dropping not one, but TWO albums back to back after years of anticipation for his second project , Frank Ocean is not a contender in next year’s ceremony. Blonde (Blond) and his “visual album” Endless, each released in August — well before the Grammy deadline of September 30, 2016. According to Billboard , a source confirmed that neither album was submitted for Grammy consideration. There’s no mention of paperwork coming in late — just that none was ever filed. We’re assuming maybe Frank didn’t want to throw his hat in for the Grammy competition? We can’t imagine why that would be, though. Do you think Frank would have taken a couple trophies home if he had made it in the running?? FrankOcean.com

Your #MuppetOscars Campaign is in Full Swing — Is That a Good Thing?

It’s been roughly 13 minutes since Eddie Murphy departed as Oscar host, and already we have a strong frontrunner to replace Brett Ratner’s comeback kid: The Muppets. Supporters rallied on Twitter for their consideration, and now an official “The Muppets Should Host the 2012 Oscars” campaign has been launched on Facebook . We offered up the idea of a Muppet-emceed Oscars in our possible host roundup yesterday, but would the reality of Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo at the dais be as enchanting as we want?

It’s Never Too Soon to Handicap the Razzies

Weinsteinian Oscar speculation is fine and all, but what about the Razzies? “[A]s a Razzie pro,” writes Dan Kois , “I’d say this: Don’t sleep on Atlas Shrugged: Part I . It has a tiny profile, earning only $4.6 million at the box office, but it got a lot of highbrow press coverage for its awfulness. And unlike all these other movies, Atlas won’t confuse voters come nomination day. I think it might be this year’s The Hottie and the Nottie — a real Little Movie That Can’t!” And a breath of fresh Razzie air to boot! For your consideration, indeed. [ Grantland ]

It’s the day before Christmas Eve, and if you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering, “Hey! What will be the next quirky and still totally by-the-book comedy with an almost-famous cast to be marketed as an indie film, complete with a Sundance premiere?” Well, just in time for your consideration, here is the trailer for Cedar Rapids , in which Ed Helms plays a naive man who leaves his small town for the first time only to be schooled in the ways of getting drunk, screwing and fighting by the wacky John C. Reilly.

10 TV Characters You Should Name Your Edgy Kids After

This week in sickening news : People name their kids after Glee characters and Betty Draper. A tally of baby names in 2010 shows that “Quinn,” “Finn,” and “Betty” are exponentially more popular spawn labels than they were in 2009. That is too bad. Naming your child is a profound task, and if you plan on using a TV character as source material, the least you can do is not consider the folks who mangled Sally Draper’s childhood or Rocky Horror . Here are 10 characters — with fancy, zeitgeist-tickling names — who deserve your consideration.

Billionaire Who Denies Connection to Tea Parties Bankrolls Tea-Partying Glenn Beck Fans

David Koch, billionaire backer of the Tea Party movement, says he's never been to a Tea Party event. So, what do you call the conference full of Tea Partiers he just convened? August 29, 2010|WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a darkened hotel ballroom, on the eve of Glenn Beck's burlesque of self-righteousness at the Lincoln Memorial, some 2,500 activists listened politely to the tall, impeccably dressed elder at the podium as he stumbled through his introduction of the evening's guest of honor, the conservative columnist George Will. The speaker was introduced simply as chairman of the board of the Americans For Prosperity Foundation, the organization that sponsored the event. Few among the rank-and-file recognized the billionaire David Koch — heir to the fortunes of Koch Industries — or knew him as the man who bankrolls their activism, whose largess subsidized many of their trips to the nation's capital to take part in AFPF's organizing conference, and the Beck rally the following day. Beck, you'll recall, is in the employ of the billionaire Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corporation (the parent company of Fox News and the Wall Street Journal) has been in cahoots, as AlterNet reported( http://www.alternet.org/news/142068/utilizing_public_airwaves,_media_mogul_murdo… ), with Kochs' AFPF since the inception of the Tea Party movement. Koch's halting public speaking style befits his usual reluctance in recent years to interact with the public. He prefers to be known as the philanthropic presence behind the great institutions of New York: the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History and the New York City Ballet. Indeed, he made his entrance to the stage at the AFPF banquet to the strains of “New York, New York,” which seemed a bit out of place in a room filled with the sounds of Southern drawls and Midwestern twangs. But over the course of the past year, Koch has earned a new reputation, one he's not keen to have: the Daddy Warbucks of the Tea Party movement. As AlterNet first reported last year, the two main astroturf groups responsible for organizing Tea Party supporters into a national movement were both founded by Koch: Americans For Prosperity, presided over by Tim Phillips, the former business partner of Ralph Reed; and FreedomWorks, which is chaired by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey. Both FreedomWorks and Americans For Prosperity have their roots in a now-defunct Koch-funded group, Citizens for a Sound Economy. While Koch is actively involved in Americans For Prosperity, his spokesperson claims no current relationship with FreedomWorks, or, incredibly, with the Tea Party movement. Last spring, on the eve of the April 15 Tax Day Tea Party protests, Koch Industries spokesperson Melissa Cohlmia sent an unsolicited statement( http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/04/right-wing_backers_koch_indust… ) to reporters and bloggers, asserting that “Koch companies, the Koch foundations, Charles Koch and David Koch have no ties to and have never given money to FreedomWorks. In addition, no funding has been provided by Koch companies, the Koch foundations, Charles Koch or David Koch specifically to support the tea parties. Thanks for your consideration.” “I’ve never been to a Tea Party event,” David Koch told New York magazine's Andrew Goldman( http://nymag.com/news/features/67285/ ) earlier this year. “No one representing the Tea Party has ever even approached me.” added by: toyotabedzrock
