A California woman who became an activist against police brutality after the father of her daughter was brutally beaten to death by 15 police officers back in 2005 was rightfully outraged upon learning that her 7-year-old daughter was being forced to celebrate “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” at school. via The Free Thought Project North Beardsley Elementary in Bakersfield, California, is facing backlash after the principal, Aimee Williamson, who happens to be the wife of the Bakersfield police chief, decided to celebrate the pseudo holiday of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9th. The biggest problem is that this hits far too close to home for one student. Outspoken activist Alicia Moore was horrified when her seven year old daughter returned home from school on Thursday upset about her class assignment that day, as her older brother’s father was brutally beaten to death by 15 Bakersfield police officers in 2005. According to Moore, her daughter’s teacher put three sentences on the board for students to choose from, all thanking and supporting the police. The options included, “Thank you for arresting the bad guys!” and “Thank you for saving our city.” The teacher reportedly told the students that anything negative would be thrown in the trash. She further instructed the students that they were to wear blue on Friday in support of Law Enforcement. Moore’s daughter is a very bright young girl who prides herself on her perfect attendance record. She also not only attends, but is consistently quick to jump into protests as this is an issue she is very passionate about. She will be staying home from school tomorrow due to the position her teacher has put her in. James Moore, the father of her 21 year old brother, was bound, hand and foot, when as many as 15 Bakersfield deputies beat him to death in the basement of the jail in 2005. James was arrested on suspicion of making threats after he got into an argument with the mother of his younger son. The main issue with this is that police officers should be taught to respect the rights of citizens just as much as citizens should also respect the authority of police and until each of those can happen equally, there will continue to be tension between the two. What are your thoughts on this mother’s reaction, Bossip fam?
This is messed up. NYPD Officer Ran Over And Killed By Truck The officer was just doing his job and got killed in a freak accident. SMH. According to Newsday: A uniformed NYPD traffic enforcement agent was struck and killed by a large truck on a bustling Manhattan street Saturday afternoon, police said. Kalyanarat Ranasinghe, 71, was pinned beneath the Freightliner industrial vacuum truck at about 2:30 p.m. on East 44th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues, witnesses and colleagues said. The Queens resident was pronounced dead at the scene. The midtown accident brought traffic to a halt in the busy retail district on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Fellow traffic agents cried and consoled one another, mourning their fallen colleague. “The officer was on the roadway doing his job,” said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. “This underscores how dangerous the job can be. “These officers don’t make a lot of money, are out there in heavy traffic, in the worst possible weather day and night,” he added. “Unfortunately, things like this happen.” Anthony Trinidad, a doorman at a building on East 44th Street, said he saw the enforcement agent talking on his cellphone in front of the parked truck when the driver suddenly pulled out and ran over him. “It was a freak accident,” Trinidad said. “The driver was pulling out and didn’t see him. People were yelling for him to stop.” NYPD Deputy Chief Kim Royster said Ranasinghe was struck by the right side of the truck, which is used to pump out water or debris. Minutes after the accident, a coach bus collided with the truck, police said. No other injuries were reported. Ranasinghe “was on duty, but it is undetermined what he was doing” at the time of the accident, Royster said. Police did not release other details of the accident. The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene afterward, and neither had been charged as of late Saturday. The collision remains under investigation. Prayers go out to his family. Shutterstock

Top DEA Michelle Leonhart Can’t Admit Marijuana Less Harmful Than Heroin Caught in a pickle, Michelle Leonhart, just can’t handle the truth: During a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, Drug Enforcement Administrator Michele Leonhart repeatedly refused to admit that anything was more addictive or harmful than marijuana. Democratic Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado pressed Leonhart on whether illegal drugs like methamphetamine and crack, as well as legal prescription drugs, caused greater harm to public health compared to marijuana. But within a three minute time-span, Leonhart dodged his questions eleven times. “Is crack worse for a person than marijuana?” Polis, who has called for an end the prohibition on marijuana, asked. “I believe all illegal drugs are bad,” Leonhart responded. “Is methamphetamine worse for somebody’s health than marijuana?” Polis continued. “Is heroin worse for somebody’s health than marijuana?” “Again, all drugs,” Leonhart began to say, only to be cut off by Polis. “Yes, no, or I don’t know?” Polis said. “If you don’t know this, you can look this up. As the chief administrator for the Drug Enforcement Agency, I’m asking a very straightforward question.” Leonhart said that heroin was highly addictive, but accused Polis of asking a “subjective” question. After being pressed further, she conceded that heroin was more addictive than marijuana, but added “some people become addicted marijuana and some people become addicted to methamphetamine.” Leonhart was nominated to be the Deputy Administrator of the DEA by then-President Bush in 2003 and confirmed by the Senate in 2004. She became the acting Administrator of the DEA after the former Administrator, Karen P. Tandy, resigned in 2007. Obama nominated Leonhart to the position in 2010. Lil Wayne was swarmed by DEA agents at Opa-Loca Airport in Miami, but in a more surprising twist than learning he is not the father of a child, he was released. The rapper was stopped and searched by federal agents after he got off his plane last week. Multiple agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency were involved. Officials performed a contraband search on Lil, who’s currently on felony probation stemming from incidents involving drugs and guns. Nothing was found! PHEW : The agents let the rapper go on his way without incident . It’s unclear if they had a reason to search him, or if they even need one (in other words, is the fact that he’s on probation sufficient cause any time they wish). In any case, he may make it rain at the strip club and he may destroy your a$$ at Uno , but Weezy’s been clean and sober as can be since getting out of jail.
