Baby Fight Club Workers Convicted A 26-year-old d aycare worker who allowed children under the age of 1 to fight under her supervision, was finally convicted today, after being arrested back in 2013. Kierra Spriggs is now finally under the same duress her colleague Sarah Jordan faces, who was convicted of similar charges last month. The two were found guilty of child cruelty and assault. The two women organized the fights to entertain themselves. Witnesses at Spriggs child said she stepped on the children’s feet, dunked them in cold water and fed them spicy foods on purpose according to People . All of this for self amusement. Mother Of Murdered 9-Year-Old Tyshawn Lee Reportedly Used Donations For Trip To Vegas First Tyshawn Lee’s mother may have used the thousands she received in donations to bury her murdered nine-year-old son to buy a new car . Now it appears that she may have also used part of the funds to fly out to Las Vegas. According to Fox Chicago 32 reporter Anita Padilla, Karla Lee didn’t even wait 24 hours after her son’s funeral before jetting off to Sin City. Keep in mind, this is the same Karla Lee who took a hit on social media over the weekend when she was criticized for using GOFUNDME money to buy a brand new car. She adamantly denied using the money from the fund…but said it was money she saved up beforehand. She said she needed a car for her protection because walking and taking the bus just wasn’t safe for her. Berkley High School Student Claims Responsibility For Racist Messages That Caused Walkout Yesterday, the students at Berkley High School in California staged a major walkout after racist messages were found written on library computers. There is now a student who is claiming responsibility for alarming and hateful threats that set the walkout in motion. Via InsideBayArea A 15-year-old Berkeley High student confessed Thursday to posting racist slurs a day earlier on a school library computer, the school principal said. More than 1,500 Berkeley High students walked out of classes and marched through city streets Thursday, protesting reports of those slurs. Berkeley police Officer Byron White said the department was pleased to identify the student so quickly. “I think it’s terrific to be able to find out, and rare to solve something like this on the same day,” White said. He said that the case is being reviewed and will most likely be turned over “to juvenile probation for review of charges. Woman Arrested For Boarding Twins Inside Home Alone An Orlando mother was taken into custody after her 2-year-old twin sons were found home alone and wandering around in the backyard. But the reason she left her sons behind is what really had her neighbors and officers shocked. Via MailOnline : Kiria Ferris, 29, was arrested and charged with child neglect after neighbors say they saw her two unsupervised sons playing near a lake adjacent to the Orlando home. One toddler was moments away from walking into the lake when his neighbor found he and his brother outside. WFTV reports that neighbors Rita Charles and Carlin Rogers recognized the children as belonging to Ferris and went to check if she was home. When they discovered no one was at her residence they called the police. Ferris’ door was wide open, say police, and there was a giant piece of plywood and some bicycles blocking the front entrance. All three bedroom doors in the apartment were locked, police added. WESH reports that investigators found a soiled diaper outside the bathroom and a pile of toys and a bottle of toxic toilet bowl cleaner inside the bathroom. But what was so important that she simply HAD to board her twins up in the house alone? A Margarita fest, apparently: Ferris originally told police she was on her way back from work when they contacted her. However, when she arrived home at 10pm in a light blue evening dress and a red wrist band, she admitted she had been partying at a local margarita festival. She said that she tried to get the children’s father to babysit but he was unavailable. She then said she blocked the door with plywood so that they couldn’t get out. Police arrested Ferris and booked her with two counts of child neglect citing the dangers of leaving the children alone, the choking hazards, and toxic cleaning chemicals around her home. SMH!! Hopefully these babies will get placed with someone who actually has time to bother to raise them.
Come onnnnnn, you KNOW what state this is… Parents Accused Of Bribing Children With Cocaine And Marijuana A FLORIDA couple is in police custody after authorities say they rewarded heir two teen daughters with cocaine and marijuana for doing their chores. NBC News reports: A couple gave their teenage daughters cocaine and marijuana if they went to school and did household chores, authorities said. Chad and Joey Mudd, of Largo, a suburb in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, gave their daughters, ages 13 and 14, drugs as a “bargaining tool” for school attendance and doing chores, Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives said. They were arrested Monday. According to an affidavit, the mother said she smoked pot with her daughters five times and the father snorted cocaine with the teens and one of his daughter’s boyfriends in his truck. Chad Mudd, the 36-year-old father who works at an area beach bar, was charged with six counts of child abuse and one count of possession of cocaine. Joey Mudd, the girls’ 34-year-old mom, was charged with two counts of child abuse. Arrest records say she works at a pediatrician’s office. Joey Mudd was released Wednesday on bail and Chad Mudd was released Thursday on bail. Calls to telephone numbers belonging to the Mudds weren’t answered. It’s unclear if they’ve retained an attorney. It’s not clear who has taken custody of the children. The sheriff’s office hasn’t immediately returned a telephone call. SMH…what were they thinking?!
Blacks Are More Likely To Take On Student Loan Debt Than Whites U.S. congressman Elijah Cummings and Sen. Elizabeth Warren recently joined forces to discuss the issues with student loan debt in this country and break down the racial barriers when it comes to who is falling victim to the debt boom… Via The National Journal : Today the majority of all college students—at two-year and four-year, private and public institutions—rely on grants and loans to pay tuition. Americans now hold about $1.2 trillion in student debt, and right now most borrowers aren’t paying off their debts at all. Cummings and Warren are particularly concerned about the effect student debt has on African-American borrowers. “African-American students are more likely to take on debt—and more debt—than white, Latino, and Asian-American students,” Cummings said at the event. In 2013, 42 percent of African-American families had student loans, compared to 28 percent of white families, according to the Urban Institute, a Washington, D.C. think tank. That racial gap is driven by an enormous wealth disparity, Cummings said. The average African-American household has a total net worth of $11,000, according a Pew Research Center analysis. That’s not enough to pay for even a single semester at Howard, and it’s barely enough to cover a year of tuition at a public university like the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. In contrast, the average white family has a net worth of $141,900. The startling discrepancy in household wealth means that a white family and a black family can have the same income but a radically different financial situation. It’s a disparity rooted in history, as The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates has explained, and it means that the average black family today essentially lives without a financial safety net. Student loans can be a lifeline, helping students finance college degrees even as tuition prices rise. Tyrone Hankerson, a current Howard senior, told forum attendees that he’s financing his education through a combination of scholarships, work-study aid, and a loan his parents took out on his behalf. After he graduates, he plans on going to law school. But loan payments can become a heavy burden. One Howard graduate, Latechia Mitchell, said that her undergraduate degree was largely financed by scholarships, but she took out $60,000 for graduate school and to get a teacher certification. Although she and her husband both have college degrees and professional jobs, they can afford to pay only the interest on their cumulative student debt. Discuss…
Mother Tries To Sell Her Baby For $500 SMH! Via MailOnline : A woman has been charged with trying to sell their 10-month-old daughter for $500. Elizabeth Gayton, 25, and her partner Corryaune Paige made two attempts at getting rid of little Annabel, Cleveland police claim. While bartering, mother-of-four Gayton allegedly left her two-year-old with a stranger she had met the day before. Police were contacted after she returned for a second time to the west side of the Ohio city to pester relatives to buy the baby. Annabel is now in the care of her grandmother, Sally Gayton, who has helped raise 11 children, 33 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, according to Fox 8 News. Sally Gayton told the station her granddaughter has demonstrated multiple times that she is incapable of raising children. ‘It makes me mad to think of what this little kid had to go through for her mother to treat her like that,’ she told Fox. ‘They don’t deserve to have any kids if they were going to do that. I would have had them.’ SMH! Wouldn’t just taking some birth control have been the easier option to avoid being a parent?
