As 90 Day Fiance star Paola Mayfield recently confessed , motherhood is difficult. Unfortunately, trolls can make that even worse. Recently, she got mom-shamed by one of the most dangerous, insidious groups on the entire internet: anti-vaxxers. Why? Because baby Axel received his first vaccination and she dared to share it. Paola Mayfield shared this precious breastfeeding photo, but that’s not what attracted (most of) the mom-shaming. “My baby boy had his first vaccination today,” Paola shares. At 2 months old, this could be for any number of things, including polio. This is a standard age at which to begin vaccinations. “Axel was so brave just like his mommy,” Paol praises. She then shares something worrisome: “@russ_mayfield has been reading The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears.” That book is notoriously filled with information that is not embraced by the medical community. “We have decided that we want to give our son specific vaccinations and avoid potential risks and side effects,” she reveals. Hmmm. On the positive side, Pao includes some very important tags: “#provaccine #proinformation.” Some of her commenters replied, including one who wrote “brave.” “Certain people tend to be nasty about anything I do,” Pao admits. “So I’m used to dealing with this lol.” Another commented that it must have been hard for her to watch her baby get a shot. “I was already crying before he got it,” Paola admits. “But then I was so proud [at] how brave he was!” “He didn’t cry much,” Pao shares. “And I had my boob ready for him. That helped a lot!” One commenter scolded Paola for vaccinating Axel, even if she may be skipping a shot or two. “Unfortunately,” warns this unintentionally hilarious comment. “It only takes one.” “Did it ever occur to you that Big PHARMA profits from our illness,” writes another wingnut. That comment continues: “and the government agencies struggle and fail at preventing them from harming the public?” “Paola you going to see when you baby boy I change after the vaccine ! And maybe get the autism too,” accuses another. That commenter adds: “poor baby ! My baby almost die after his shot never I vaccin me and my baby or my dogs.” “My grandma had measles lived to see another day this is a joke just like everyone’s scared of the flu your programmed,” another bonkers comment reads. Notably, the so-and-so survived argument is known as survivor bias . “That’s funny,” claims another. “Because it’s a well known fact that vaccines suppress the immune system.” No. “By the way, vaccines shed,” that same commenter continues falsely. “So newly vaccinated people are actually the ones spreading it.” ( No vaccines on the furniture during shedding season!) “Enjoy your viruses and diseases!” concludes this poorly informed individual. “I’ve done my research. You obviously haven’t.” Paola also received (plenty of) comments from ardent supporters. “BRAVO Paola & Russ you just block all those haters and anti-vaccination activists and people who are sending you hate mail,” writes one. “Oh that’s a hard day for mommy,” agrees another. “Doing great protecting your baby with vaccines.” That same commenter adds: “All my kids, grandchildren have been vaccinated and they are perfect.” Study after study after study reminds people that vaccines are effective, generally very safe, and vital — but anecdotes don’t hurt. “I’m not trying to be a troll, but I am a registered nurse as is my husband,” writes a concerned supporter. “I believe that educating yourself on vaccines is thee best,” she affirms. She notes: “do you know that dr Sears …his license is on probation for giving exemptions to vaccination to children that he has never seen or examined.” “I would be careful about misinformation about vaccines,” another cautions. “Dr Sears is was under investigation and almost had his medical license revoked for medical negligence,” that commenter warns. It’s true. Paola’s tag may be pro-vaccination, but the book Russ is reading is said to be on the medical fringes, at best. It looks like not everyone has made nice since Shannon Beador flipped out on her castmates in Jamaica. Shannon has taken to social media to condemn people who cause drama — without naming any names. One fellow Housewife saw it … and may have implied that they’re no longer friends. Shannon Beador apologized to her co-stars following her big blow-up in Jamaica. But there are clearly some lingering issues and conflicts. At least, that’s what Shannon implied with her recent post. She shared one of those messages designed for older moms to share on social media (which is exactly her demographic, we’re not being shady). The post reads: “For those of you who like to stir the pot, make sure you have a tight grip on the handle.” Shannon captioned the photo with a simple tag: “#verytightgrip.” Shannon didn’t name any names, but Tamra Judge saw fit to comment under the post. “Love you my friend,” Tamra’s comment begins. “We were good,” she writes. ( Really interesting use of the past tense, there) “No,” Tamra continues. “I should have not talked about my frustrations.” “But,” she points out. “I’m pretty sure Gina & Kelly called you mental.” Shannon may have flipped out on a number of her co-stars while in Jamaica, but we all remember Tamra screaming in response. Commenters remember the role that Tamra played, even if they didn’t always spell her name correctly. “Gina definitely stirred it,” one commenter wrote, keeping with the pot-stirring metaphor. “But Tamara supplied the ingredients.” Tamra saw this and responded: “No I didn’t.” “Pretty sure the other girls said shannon had mental problems,” Tamra insisted. “I was coming from place of concern.” Tamra may have taken Shannon’s vaguepost personally, but many asssumed that Gina Kirschenheiter was the one being vagued. (Remember, if it’s not a tweet, it can’t be a subtweet — it’s a vague ) Gina did go around saying that “everyone” was talking about Shannon’s mental state. And Vicki Gunvalson slammed her new castmates for being “obsessed” with Shannon . Neither Gina nor Emily made fast friends with Shannon. At the end of the day, pot-stirring aside, Shannon’s big blow-up on camera may have been as much from the heat in Jamaica as anything else. They were staying at a hotel that had no air conditioning. It was summer. These Housewives are made of sterner stuff than I am — I would have quit the show to flee from that heat. Some fans openly suggested that Shannon’s conflict with co-stars arose because she envied the younger, newer Housewives. After all, Emily is happy with her life, and Gina is going through her divorce with dignity and even contentment. But Kelly Dodd insists that Shannon isn’t jealous of the new women . She says that Shannon just takes a while to warm up to new people, and that she doesn’t handle change very well. (Who among us does handle change well? I don’t even like when other people rearrange the furniture in their homes) Combine Shannon’s resistance to change with the stress of her messy, contentious divorce from David, and you can see why she’s on edge. But Shannon didn’t really spell out the intended target of her post. It could mean Gina — but it could also mean Tamra. (It seems more likely that Tamra just assumed that it was about her, because Tamra can be a little tightly wound) This may be one of those “You’re So Vain” situations where, if you think it’s about you, it’s about you. But we will say that Shannon and Gina seem to have mended fences. Social media has shown them hanging out. The peril of vague posts is that they’re always vague, and you risk upsetting people you didn’t mean to offend. Les Moonves has responded to charges of sexual harassment and misconduct outlined by Ronan Farrow in an explosive New Yorker article relased on Friday. In the damning expose, Farrow cites six women, all of whom allege that the CBS CEO made unwanted advances toward them in the form of kissing or touching. If they refused said advances, the women were punished. Each also said she was afraid to speak out back when the incidents happened, out of fear over how Moonves could ruin their careers. This same piece delves deeply into CBS itself, with Farrow writing that it maintains a testosterone-fueled culture where “everything feels old, the people, the furniture, the culture, the mores.” (Moonves has served as the chairman of CBS for about two and a half years; the network has been the most-watched network on television in 15 of the last 16 seasons.) One of the accusers is actress Illeana Douglas, perhaps best known for her role on Six Feet Under. She claims to have been fired from a 1997 pilot after refusing Moonves’ advances, which included “violent kissing” and holding her down on his office couch. “The physicality of it was horrendous,” she alleges of Moonves, who was the CBS Entertainment President at the time. Douglas says she was promptly let from the unanmed sitcom and denied payment, although she was later offered compensation and the opportunity to appear in a CBS miniseries after she retained an attorney. In response to the scathing allegations against him, Moonves has said the following: Throughout my time at CBS, we have promoted a culture of respect and opportunity for all employees, and have consistently found success elevating women to top executive positions across our Company. I recognize that there were times decades ago when I may have made some women uncomfortable by making advances. Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely. But I always understood and respected – and abided by the principle – that ‘no’ means ‘no,’ and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone’s career. This is a time when we all are appropriately focused on how we help improve our society, and we at CBS are committed to being part of the solution. Even before various details from the article were made public on Friday, CBS vows to investigate Moonves and this entire situation. It said in a lengthy statement of its own: CBS is very mindful of all workplace issues and takes each report of misconduct very seriously. We do not believe, however, that the picture of our Company created in The New Yorker represents a larger organization that does its best to treat its tens of thousands of employees with dignity and respect. We are seeing vigorous discourse in our country about equality, inclusion and safety in the workplace, and CBS is committed to being part of the solution to those important issues. Moonves is one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. He earned close to $70 million last year and is married to CBS on-air personality Julie Chen. The Big Brother host said the following in the wake of these accusations against her husband: I have known my husband, Leslie Moonves, since the late ’90s, and I have been married to him for almost 14 years. Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader. He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being. I fully support my husband and stand behind him and his statement. That’s all well and good and parts of it may be true.
