Facebook-banning pastor admits threesome

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) – A pastor who said Facebook was a “portal to infidelity” and told married church leaders to delete their accounts or resign once testified that he had a three-way sexual relationship with his wife and a male church assistant. The Rev. Cedric Miller confirmed the information reported Saturday by the Asbury Park Press of Neptune, which cited testimony he gave in a criminal case in 2003. The relationship had ended by that time. Miller gained national attention when he issued the Facebook edict this week. He said it came about because much of the marital counseling he has performed over the past year and a half has concerned infidelity stemming from the social-networking website. The 48-year-old leader of Living Word Christian Fellowship Church in Neptune Township had claimed Facebook ignites old passions, and he ordered about 50 married church officials to delete their accounts with the social networking site or resign from their leadership positions. Miller had previously asked married congregants to share their login information with their spouses – as he does – and now plans to suggest that they give up Facebook altogether. The minister also said he would leave the site this week. In court testimony he gave in April 2003, Miller said his wife had an extramarital affair with the church assistant. Miller said he participated in many of the sexual encounters and said the assistant's wife was sometimes present, too. Conflict of Interest: After Lobbying for Gay Rights on MSNBC, Contessa Brewer to Speak at LGBT Event

MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer, who on Monday argued that overturning Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is a “civil rights issue,” will appear at a July 24 fundraiser in Kentucky to support gay rights in the state. According to a press release : “As the evening’s featured guest, MSNBC’s Brewer, who has several family ties to Kentucky, will speak on the need for a statewide anti-discrimination Fairness law in the Commonwealth from a national news perspective.” On Monday’s News Live, Brewer implored , “My big question today: Why aren’t more American leaders itching for a fight on gay rights ?” She also said of ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, “Is it time for our American leaders to stand up for what’s right and no matter what public opinion polls say to have the leadership and the courage to take a stand on it?” At no time did Brewer mention her speaking engagement or her conflict of interest. According to the Courier-Journal , last year’s “Fairness Over Louisville” raised $10,000 for gay rights. Brewer has previously made her opinion known on gay issues. On May 12, 2009 , she Tweeted this about the then-Miss California, Carrie Prejean: The Donald announces at 11am whether Miss California gets to keep her crown, though she hates gay marriage but likes to take her shirt off. [Emphasis added]. This type of conflict of interest certainly isn’t new for journalists. In 2009, former CBS anchor Dan Rather appeared at a $200 a person fundraiser for the hard-left Nation magazine.

Obama Backs Away from Intergalactic Domination

The story at the bottom link is from Wired, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates Statement follows: “Today, I'm pleased to welcome the release of the President's National Space Policy. I fully support the vision it lays out. This policy clearly articulates the right space policies and priorities for our nation, and is also a pledge that the United States will maintain the leadership and capabilities in space imperative for our national security. “Our continued presence in space is vital to our national security. Space-based capabilities are critical to our military's ability to navigate accurately, strike precisely, and gather battle space awareness efficiently. However, changes in the space environment over the last decade challenge our operations. Today, space is increasingly contested as our systems face threats of disruption and attack, increasingly competitive as more states, private firms, and others develop space-based capabilities, and increasingly congested with orbital debris. “Together with other departments and agencies, the Department of Defense will take a number of steps to support the new National Space Policy, and will work with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to develop a strategy document to address specific national security requirements for outer space. We will look to leverage growing international and commercial expertise to enhance U.S. capabilities and reduce vulnerabilities. “Finally, we will pursue activities consistent with the inherent right of self-defense, deepen cooperation with allies and friends, and work with all nations toward the responsible and peaceful shared presence in space.” The White House statement, the fact sheet and the text of the National Space Policy are available online at http://www.defense.gov/spr/ under “Related U.S. Govt Publications.” http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2010/06/obama-backs-away-from-intergalactic-domi… added by: Incredulous

U.S. Senator Robert Byrd, Longest-Serving Congress Member in History, Has Been Hospitalized in Serious Condition

Sen. Robert Byrd hospitalized in serious condition By the CNN Wire Staff June 27, 2010 5:41 p.m. EDT Washington (CNN) — Sen. Robert Byrd, the 92-year-old Democrat from West Virginia who is the longest-serving Congress member in history, has been hospitalized in serious condition, his office said Sunday. Byrd was admitted to a Washington area hospital last week and his condition is “seriously ill,” according to the statement by his office. Initially thought to be suffering from heat exhaustion and severe dehydration, Byrd was expected to remain in hospital for “not more than a few days,” the statement said. “However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as 'serious,' ” the statement concluded. West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin said in a statement Sunday that he and his wife “are thinking about and praying for Sen. Byrd and his family.” “We are truly hopeful that he gets well soon because West Virginians need his leadership in Washington,” the statement said. “Sen. Byrd is a true champion for our state.” Slowed by illness in recent years, Byrd spent six weeks in the hospital in 2009 due to a staph infection. Last November, he became the longest-serving member of Congress at more than 57 years, surpassing the old record set by Arizona Democrat Carl T. Hayden. Byrd also is the only person elected to nine full terms in the Senate. He served six years in the U.S. House before becoming a senator, and has never lost an election. added by: EthicalVegan
