‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Trailer Warns Of ‘Dark Times’

Second-to-last ‘Potter’ installment hits theaters November 19. By Kara Warner Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Photo: Warner Bros. As promised, the latest trailer for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” arrived online Wednesday (September 22), and it is a doozy. Fans who have been following the trajectory of the film’s crafty promotional plan will have a lot to take in after giving it a look-see. Like the TV spots and clips that have been released before it, this trailer opens with an ominous, almost sinister feel. “These are dark times, there is no denying,” Bill Nighy says as Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour, who is shown giving a press conference on the dire state of world affairs. “Harry … tell me where he is,” Voldemort’s (Ralph Fiennes) serpent-like whisper follows, voicing over images of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named creepily gliding into Dumbledore’s tomb, and then a quick cut of Harry standing alone outside a tent on a rocky landscape. “Our world has faced no greater threat than it does today,” Scrimgeour’s voice continues, over shots of Hermione and Ron looking serious and concerned, and then Harry and Hermione are shown visiting his parents’ grave. “But you can’t fight the war on your own, Mr. Potter,” Scrimgeour’s voice continues. “He is too strong.” As the Minister’s words trail off, Harry is shown holding a broken piece of mirror, which shows Dumbledore falling into a dark abyss. The trailer then kicks into high gear, with dramatic music and shots of preparation for various battles, including a very poignant meeting of Voldemort’s Death Eaters, at which the duplicitous Severus Snape is seated. “We have infiltrated the Ministry,” he says. Cut to chaos at the Ministry, with stuffy politicians trying to maintain order (one of whom is forever-pink-clad Dolores Umbridge flashing her characteristic grimace/facade of calm), and then more familiar shots of Harry, Ron and Hermione traveling cross-country on their journey, over rocky hills, in the middle of a bustling London. This is followed by a series of escape-esque shots, including seeing the six Harry clones/look-alikes, which readers of the book will remember is the tool the Order of the Phoenix use in an attempt to safely move the real Harry from one location to the next. Cut to an impressive array of quick action shots: The Death Eaters attacking Bill and Fleur’s wedding! Hagrid trying to whisk Harry away on his motorbike! Everyone running through the forest! A mid-air magic fight with wizards wielding wands while riding Thestrals! There is even the very tense argument between Ron and Harry in the tent that leads to a physical altercation. More battling! Houses destroyed! Harry, Ron and Hermione running! All leading up to Voldemort’s creepy voice-over once more: “I have seen your heart,” he says. “And it is mine,” before sending a menacing flash of lightning into the sky that cleverly forms the film’s title. Cue the all-over-body chills. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” will hit theaters on November 19. What do you think of the trailer?!? it’s Not Human Rights, It’s Sharia Law. So Butt Out!

Iran says foreign countries should not make the case of a woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery into a human rights issue. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that if releasing murderers is a human rights issue, then those nations should release all of their murderers from jail. He said the case is still being reviewed, but friends and family of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani said Monday they feared authorities could carry out her execution soon. http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Iran-Stoning-Case-Not-Human-Rights-Issue-102… added by: congoboy

China’s 45 Billion Disposable Chopsticks Require 100 Acres of Forests Every 24 Hours

Photo: Flickr , CC That’s a Lot of Chopsticks Apparently China’s Ministry of Commerce has had it with disposable chopsticks. It sent out a warning to chopstick makers in June to warn them that: “Production, circulation and recycling of disposable chopsticks should be more strictly supervised.” The reason? With about 45 billion disposable chopstick pairs made every year in the country, or about 130 million a day, a lot of wood is being wasted, and that in a country that is trying to increase its forest cover… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Saudi Clerics Advocate Adult Breast-Feeding

(June 5) — Women in Saudi Arabia should give their breast milk to male colleagues and acquaintances in order to avoid breaking strict Islamic law forbidding mixing between the sexes, two powerful Saudi clerics have said. They are at odds, however, over precisely how the milk should be conveyed. A fatwa issued recently about adult breast-feeding to establish “maternal relations” and preclude the possibility of sexual contact has resulted in a week's worth of newspaper headlines in Saudi Arabia. Some have found the debate so bizarre that they're calling for stricter regulations about how and when fatwas should be issued. Sheikh Al Obeikan, an adviser to the royal court and consultant to the Ministry of Justice, set off a firestorm of controversy recently when he said on TV that women who come into regular contact with men who aren't related to them ought to give them their breast milk so they will be considered relatives. “The man should take the milk, but not directly from the breast of the woman,” Al Obeikan said, according to Gulf News. “He should drink it and then becomes a relative of the family, a fact that allows him to come in contact with the women without breaking Islam's rules about mixing.” This is so screwed up I'm speechless. added by: 2helenahandbasket

Woman Beds 1000 People!

JUST like the characters in her favorite TV show, posh Christina Saunders knows good sex. And so she should, after seducing 1,000 MEN. The university-educated brunette longed to be as confident in bed as Sex And The City maneater Samantha. So she set herself a 10-year challenge – to get a thousand notches on her bedpost. She said: “Sam went from one man to the next and was proud of it. I wanted to be confident like her. I got hooked on the buzz of one-night-stands.” She slept with at least one stranger a week, travelled the world hunting for men to bed, and took part in threesomes added by: ezrierin

A New Mission for Liberty: Ending the Insane Drug War

In 2006, long-time readers may recall that I published an article entitled, “The Bicameral Universe: A Theory of Everything in One Blog Post“. I wrote the article after a flash of revelation while I was under the influence of Cannabis. Whatever any particular person may think of my article, I wrote it as a genuine expression of opinion, having read and thought deeply about the issues of God, man, religion, science, and the Anthropic Principle for many years. The article outlines my personal understanding of God and my place as a free agent in the multiverse. A year later, in 2007, I moved to the state of Hawai`i, where I met one Reverend Roger Christie, the founder of the Hawai`i Cannabis Ministry. On September 8, 2007, I was ordained as a Cannabis Minister in his church. For the past 10 years, Rev. Christie has operated the Ministry openly — one might even say “loudly”. The Ministry is located on the second floor of the Moses Building on Kamahameha Ave in downtown Hilo, right across from Hilo Bay. Indeed, everyone in this part of Hawai`i is entirely aware of the THC-Ministry, because of its central location and because of a large banner that has been hanging for years from the second floor window, declaring, “We Use Cannabis Religiously, And You Can Too!” Hawai`i Cannabis Ministry There is nothing subterranean in the way this Ministry was operated. The Ministry has existed as a transparent part of this community for many years. In fact, in 2008, Roger Christie ran for mayor of the County of Hawai`i as a Cannabis activist. I ought to know: I was a campaign director and webmaster. I attended campaign strategy meetings, and was present when Roger registered with the county as an official Mayoral candidate in the Summer of 2008. Needless to say, we were not successful in getting Rev. Christie elected to the highest office in Hawai`i County, but it was sure fun to try. Over the past two years, Rev. Christie has continued to operate the Hawai`i Cannabis Ministry openly, and the Ministry banner has continued to fly above Hilo Bay for all to see. But on July 8, 2010, everything changed. On that day, the DEA along with a dozen other government agencies descended on the Ministry offices and arrested Reverend Christie, along with 13 members of his flock, charging them with a slew of federal drug trafficking crimes. Details of the arrest have been documented by the Associated Press and by other local news organizations. At this time, Reverend Christie is being held without bail in a federal detention center in Honolulu. He has been appointed a public defender, and his trial has been set for September 8, 2010. Since the arrest, I have contacted our local chapter of the ACLU in an attempt to garner their interest in defending Rev. Christie and the other 13 members of the Ministry currently under federal indictment. For my part, while I am a member of the Ministry and have an interest in pro-Cannabis political activism, I am not now, nor have I ever been involved in the production or distribution of Cannabis. I am an activist, a writer, a thinker. But I have no problem defending the idea that smoking Cannabis is a legitimate spiritual activity that can bring practitioners closer to God and the ultimate meanings of life. Having said all of this, I can no longer stand idly by while my pastor — a man I know to be genuine, simple and honest — is arrested and railroaded by an out-of-control federal authority. Going forward, this publication will lend its support to the defeat of this irrational war on Cannabis, and will expose the damage it has caused to innocent men and women everywhere. Big Boi Gets ‘Live And Down To Earth’ In ‘Follow Us’ Video

‘It’s like a college frat party down in Savannah,’ MC says of clip for second Sir Luscious Left Foot single. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Kelly Marino Big Boi Photo: MTV News Next week, Big Boi is set to release the video for “Follow Us,” featuring Vonnegutt, the Atlanta MC told MTV News on the red carpet of the 2010 BET Awards. He’s already shot the clip, which is scheduled to premiere the visuals in time for the release of his album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, next Tuesday (July 6). “Left foot, right foot, stepping over biters,” he raps over the track’s syncopated drums. “The game seems haunted/ ‘Cause there’s so many ghost writers.” “It’s just live and down to earth,” Big Boi said of the “Follow Us” video. “It’s like a college frat party down in Savannah, Georgia. Just riding through the city, having fun.” The number follows Big Boi’s current single, the Scott Storch-produced “Shutterbugg.” Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is the OutKast rapper’s first proper solo offering; he and rhyme partner Andre 3000 released solo projects bundled into an group album with Speakerboxx/ The Love Below. Now, Big Boi isn’t entirely on his own: He’s got the help of T.I., B.o.B and Jamie Foxx on the LP. Andre 3000 was slated to have a prominent role on the project, particularly on the songs “Royal Flush” and “Lookin’ for Ya,” but OutKast’s label, Jive, blocked Dre from appearing on the Def Jam release. “Jive Records is trying to block 3 Stacks from being on the album. Boi Stop!!!!” Big Boi tweeted earlier this month. Big Boi spoke to MTV News in April about “Lookin’ for Ya,” which was produced by Boi-1da. “It’s me and Stacks, two verses apiece, back-to-back lyrical manslaughter,” Big Boi said of the collaboration. “Who’s better than the ‘Kast? Nobody.” Are you looking forward to more of Big Boi’s solo work? Would you rather OutKast got to work on new music together? Sound off in the comments. Related Artists Big Boi
