The Hard Locker: Are the Wachowskis Going Back to Gay Roots in Iraq?

The ever-fascinating, never predictable Wachowski Brothers seem to have taken to bold new levels those recent viral videos of military men stationed in Afghanistan blowing off steam with Lady Gaga and Ke$ha impersonations with news of their purported next feature as co-directors, a hard-R gay Iraqi love story that the chatterati has already nicknamed The Hard Locker , Brokeback Locker and Desert Storm Hearts .

Mercy, Trauma Canceled

Veronica Callahan’s defibrillators have been shut down. NBC’ s first-season drama Mercy , like its extreme counterpart Trauma , has been canceled . I’m unsurprised with both decisions but only disappointed with Mercy . Taylor Schilling was irreverent but sincere in the lead role, Jaime Lee Kirchner won me over as Nurse Sonia, and Michelle Trachtenberg seemed poised for a full mainstream takeover in her first big network role. And to think how excited this cast was when they found out they were picked up for a back nine — at a strip club . [ THR ]

The Say Whaaaa? Singers are off this week, closely monitoring the news that Lindsey Lohan may skip her court-mandated alcohol-education classes to attend Cannes. Terrible Shrek-Themed Weddings are Coincidentally Happening Again, Right Now

NOOO, it has begun anew! You may remember how taunted we felt last year when, in a burst of total coincidence that came just as the Broadway musical Shrek just happened to be struggling, a whole bunch of people dressed up as the green ogre in public, including Regis Philbin and some wackadoos getting married across the Atlantic. Now, it is happening again. And I think we need to take a closer look.

Adam Sandler vs. the Arcade

A little while ago, we introduced you to Pixels , a cute web short about 8-bit video game characters on the rampage. Now, Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison shingle has picked up the feature rights, and you can extrapolate from there, can’t you? Like, Donkey Kong will probably teach him something about connecting with his kids. And they’ll get Seth Gordon to direct, and people will draw comparisons between that and his King of Kong , and he’ll stroke his chin thoughtfully and say, “Well, they’re two very different movies.” [ Deadline ]
