Steve Martin Explains, Apologizes For Racist Tweet

Social media has led to a social gaffe for Steve Martin, but he’s taking full responsibility for his racist tweet and explaining in detail how it came about. The actor, writer and former Oscar host, 68, was quipping with fans on Twitter when he apparently went too far when the topic turned to grammar. Asked by a fan, “Is this how you spell lasonia?” Martin said: “It depends. Are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant?” Quickly realizing the line might offend, Martin deleted the tweet and apologized . In the face of criticism that ensued, he offered a longer explanation. “I was riffing on Twitter, inviting people to ask me grammar questions,” the funnyman wrote. “I replied with what I hoped were funny answers.” “For example, a person might write ‘What’s the difference between then and than?’ I would say, ‘then is a conjunctive preposition, and than is a misspelling of thank’.” “I have done similar things to this on other occasions, and there is a great spirit of fun between me and the Twitter followers.” “I was going along fine when someone wrote, ‘How do you spell lasonia?’ I wrote: ‘It depends if you are in an African American neighborhood or an Italian restaurant.'” “I knew of the name Lasonia. I did not make it up, nor do I find it funny.” “So to me the answer was either Lasonia (with a capital), or Lasagna, depending on what you meant. That they sounded alike in this rare and particular context struck me as funny.” “That was the joke. When the tweet went out, I saw some negative comments and immediately deleted the tweet and apologized.” “I gathered the perception was that I was making fun of African American names. Later, thinking it over, I realized the tweet was irresponsible, and made a fuller apology on Twitter.” “Comedy is treacherous. I used to try out jokes in clubs and the audience’s feedback would tell me when I had crossed a line, or how to shape a joke so it is clear.” “Today, the process is faster. It’s your brain, a button, then millions of reactions. But it’s my job to know.” Apology accepted?

Justin Bieber Party Guest Calls 911, Raises Questions

A party at Justin Bieber’s house a couple weeks ago nearly ended in tragedy, as a guest fell unconscious and a friend of the singer’s phoned the authorities. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene but later recalled when the victim stumbled to her feet and was taken home. Now, though, the 911 call made by Bieber’s unnamed pal has surfaced… and it’s raised a few questions concerning what the heck went down on the night of December 13. At first, the security team member tells an operator that someone is “hyperventilating.” Then, he says the person is having a seizure. Then, he changes his story again and say she simply passed out. We may never know what actually happened, but listen in now and try to discern for yourself: Justin Bieber 911 Call: WTF? Of course, Bieber fans have something else to focus on and worry about these days: Did Justin really retire on Christmas Eve ?!?!?!?!?

Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga: The Feud is Over!

It was entertaining while it lasted, but Radar Online has now confirmed: the rivalry between Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice is over. The sister-in-laws – who have gone at each other hard for many seasons on The Real Housewives of New Jersey – enjoyed a holiday dinner together over the weekend, with Gorga posting a photo of the event on Twitter and writing that the meal “makes me smile.” “You will NOT see any Teresa and Melissa fights this season on RHONJ. Those feuds are over,” an insider tells Radar. Signs of tension easing between Gorga and Giudice were there in August when the former said she has Teresa’s back , with Teresa and her husband facing 50 years in prison for fraud and other financial charges. Just a month prior to that, however, Gorga went off on Giudice for not defending her against cheating allegations. Still, this Radar source teases the next season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and says viewers shouldn’t expect more Melissa/Teresa fireworks. “The drama is going to come with clashes with the new ladies and not with these two families anymore,” according to this report. “They’ve put that all behind them. No one wanted to see it, it was getting boring and repetitive on the show.” Anxious to relive the fighting? Go watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey online at TV Fanatic now!

Cat Adopts Puppy, Wins Grant For Charity

Earlier this year, a mother cat called Lurlene “adopted” a pit bull puppy called Noland and nursed the little canine back to health after he was abandoned. A humane officer stumbled upon the day-old pit bull covered in fleas in a Cleveland garage, and took the dog to the Cleveland Animal Protective League. There, the group decided to place Noland with Lurlene, who had also just been taken off the streets and had recently given birth to four baby kittens. Molly, Noland’s mother, was discovered later that day looking anxious and famished. She was unable to care for Noland herself, so he stayed with Lurlene. He made it through those difficult first few weeks. Eventually, he was placed in a foster home with puppies his age where he learned how to be a dog. He still visits his “mother” and “siblings” on occasion, however. As a result, the Cleveland APL, which rescued the pair, won a $25,000 grant from the Petco Foundation’s “Holiday Wishes Grant Campaign” contest. “Noland blended in with the family so well, he was even found using the litter box a few times,” Judy Hunter, APL’s director of development, wrote to Petco. Sharon Harvey, APL’s director, said the story of the dog and cat isn’t just ute, but emblematic of the “power of forgiveness and unconditional love and acceptance.” “That’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it?”

Undercover Investigation Reveals Cruelty (Including Bashing Live Hamsters), Neglect, and Filth at Another Pet Trade Supplier – Video Too Graphic to Watch

https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=312… Do NOT watch this video! The description enough should be enough to get you angry enough to help do something about this… Undercover Investigation Reveals Neglect, Cruelty, and Filth at Another Pet Trade Supplier Another PETCO and PetSmart Supplier Caught on Video Mistreating Animals . A PETA investigator went undercover at Sun Pet Ltd., an Atlanta-based wholesale animal dealer that supplies animals to numerous PETCO and PetSmart locations, among other retailers across the U.S. Video footage and photos taken by PETA's investigator show the widespread suffering of hundreds of birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, mice, and rats in Sun Pet's enormous warehouses. On April 22, 2010, Georgia Department of Agriculture representatives descended on Sun Pet, which was, unfortunately, tipped off well in advance and apparently took the opportunity to clean up its act. PETA has requested an investigation into the leak that prepped Sun Pet for the Department of Agriculture's visit, but so far, no one has been held accountable for it. In addition to the misery of confinement to extremely crowded containers, forcing animals to eat, sleep, urinate, and defecate all in the same space, PETA's investigator recorded the violent killing and abusive handling of hundreds of animals. One worker put live hamsters into a bag and then bashed the bag against a table in an attempt to kill them—one of the animals was seen suffering and panting heavily minutes later. Other animals whom Sun Pet could not sell were gassed in a crude, filth-encrusted tank. Animals who got loose in the company's warehouse suffered horribly after ingesting the poison that Sun Pet sets out to kill them. A supervisor trained PETA's investigator to determine animals' genders by forcefully squeezing their abdomens “like a … PlayStation controller handle” to make their genitals “come out.” “You could throw them against the wall and they'll stand back up again and keep on running,” Sun Pet's supervisor said to PETA's investigator when ordering him to pack and handle animals more quickly. In more than three months of employment, not once did PETA's investigator see anyone from PETCO's or PetSmart's corporate offices inspecting Sun Pet's facility. Sun Pet also purchased animals from U.S. Global Exotics, the filthy Texas warehouse from which more than 26,000 animals were seized last December following another PETA undercover investigation. Sun Pet also purchased thousands of animals from unlicensed vendors, in apparent violation of the federal Animal Welfare Act, despite previous warnings by the U.S. Department of Agriculture regarding such practices. PETA's investigator documented that PETCO and PetSmart stores returned animals suffering from illnesses and injuries, sometimes without food or water, to Sun Pet instead of providing them with veterinary care or basic necessities or even putting them out of their misery. The animals were hauled around in cardboard boxes in the backs of trucks traveling hundreds of miles and many hours from store to store until they finally got back to Sun Pet, and many died as a result. View photos taken by PETA's undercover investigator. You can help secure justice for the hamsters and thousands of sensitive individual animals peddled for profit by Sun Pet. PETA has received information indicating that Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard Jr. has instructed his office to halt its investigation of animal suffering at Sun Pet. Please complete the form below to urge Mr. Howard to investigate and file suitable cruelty-to-animals charges against the worker caught bashing hamsters against a table and also to file charges against other appropriate parties. Ask Mr. Howard what he thinks constitutes cruelty to animals if it's not bagging them up and bashing them against a table and then leaving them to suffer and slowly die of their injuries.
