Appolo Nida Roughs Up Brandon DeShazer in Real Housewives of Atlanta Brawl

Brandon DeShazer, Kenya Moore’s assistant, was seriously roughed up by Appolo Nida, Phaedra Parks’ husband (below), in an epic Real Housewives of Atlanta brawl. We’ll have to wait months before this plays out on the Bravo show, but the alleged beatdown, which was caught on tape, all stemmed from a workout video. It’s not entirely clear why, but witnesses say Appolo flew into a rage and “violently attacked” DeShazer at a party that was being filmed for the upcoming season. Nida reportedly had to be restrained by SEVEN crew members. Appolo Nida was pissed because Brandon DeShazer and Kenya Moore had apparently agreed to produce a workout video starring Phaedra Parks. Instead, they went and produced their own, cutting Phaedra out. Nida felt slighted, blamed DeShazer for stabbing Phaedra in the back, and opened huge can of whoop ass on The Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s assistant. That’s according to witnesses. Nida has a different story. The reality star tells TMZ that there was a fight on the set, which he didn’t elaborate on, and that he tried to break it up and got attacked by Brandon. Nida says he defended himself but it got out of control.

Fat Letters: Schools in 19 States Weigh Kids, Send Reports to Parents

Schools in 19 states are weighing students and sending reports to their parents with their body mass index (BMI) and other measurements, reports say. Kids have started calling the reports “fat letters.” Fat Letters Many families and health experts have started pushing back against the reports -slash-fat letters, arguing they could damage the children’s self-esteem. Proponents say the practice is actually an effective progress report and a tool for establishing whether a student is healthy or unhealthy physically. A person’s BMI is calculated by dividing their weight by the square of their height, then applied to their age and gender and measured against peers. BMI is the primary measurement used to determine if a person is considered overweight and obese, a condition these 19 states are trying to reduce. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third of children and adolescents are considered overweight or obese. These children are believed to at increased risk for a variety of health problems, including asthma, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. None of which are good, obviously, but is it really a school’s place to call attention to it in this manner, evaluating BMI alongside students’ academic skills? Fat letters: Right or wrong?   Right! If it helps anyone get healthier it’s worth it! Wrong! It’s not the schools’ place to do this! View Poll »

Alex Rodriguez Suspended Through 2014 Season By MLB; Star Likely to Play Pending Appeal

Major League Baseball came down hard today on players it found to be involved with Biogenesis, the Florida clinic linked to performance enhancing drugs. The most prominent among them, New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, was suspended for 211 games – through the end of the 2014 season. Alex Rodriguez Suspended 211 Games By MLB A-Rod, of course, is expected to appeal the suspension and remain eligible this evening – which happens to mark his 2013 debut – pending a hearing. MLB commissioner Bud Selig issued statements on Alex Rodriguez and on the state of baseball’s anti-drug program, which he expressed pride in. Selig said Rodriguez’s punishment will begin this week and cover the 2013 and 2014 postseasons, and was covered under the drug program’s protocols. The reason? A-Rod’s “use and possession of numerous performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone” over multiple years. Moreover, he was sanctioned for a bid to “cover-up his violations of the program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the [investigation].” “Under the terms of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the suspension will be stayed until the completion of his appeal if Rodriguez [challenges] his discipline.” Rodriguez is expected to appeal the suspension immediately and will be allowed to play until his appeal goes before an arbitrator at an undetermined date. The 12 other players agreed to 50-game suspensions and waived their right to appeal: Nelson Cruz, Rangers outfielder Everth Cabrera, Padres shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Tigers shortstop Antonio Bastardo, Phillies reliever Francisco Cervelli, Yankees catcher (on DL) Jordany Valdespin, Mets outfielder (minors) Jesus Montero, Mariners catcher (minors) Cesar Puello, Mets outfielder (minors) Sergio Escalona, Astros pitcher (minors) Fernando Martinez, Yankees outfielder (minors) Fautino De Los Santos, free-agent pitcher Jordan Norberto, free-agent pitcher Facing a possible lifetime ban , Alex Rodriguez did not waive his right to appeal. The Yankees still expect Rodriguez to be eligible to play Monday night.

Octomom Bank Records to Be Seized in Welfare Fraud Probe

Nadya Suleman is in deep this time … and we’re not talking about the Octomom porn . Welfare fraud investigators are on the cusp of seizing bank records and documents that may prove the mom of 14 has been stealing taxpayer money. Intentionally or not, such an act could land her in prison. Officials obtained a warrant to seize Nadya’s financial and employment records, believing that she earned far more than the welfare threshold in 2012. Astonishingly, she is still entitled to welfare benefits if she earns under $119,000 a year (14 kids and all). More astonishingly … she may have doubled that. The porno was a big seller, while her topless strip club gigs and payday loan endorsement deal also earned her some nice checks. She did well in ’12. Too well, officials believe, to be getting public assistance. The L.A. County Dept. of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation (WFP&I) is zeroing in on the home and office of Nadya Suleman ‘s manager. There, they think they’ll find evidence that Nads earned upwards of $200K and defrauded the state by collecting welfare money on top of her earnings. Welfare fraud carries up to three years in prison, during which her kids would become wards of the state … which some might argue would be a step up.

R.I.P. 12-Year-Old Queens Girl Hangs Herself From Ceiling Fan After Being Cyber-Bullied By Classmates

The bullying has got to stop! Via NYPost reports : A 12-year-old Queens girl hanged herself in her family home yesterday after being relentlessly cyberbullied by her middle-school classmates, sources told The Post. Gabrielle Molina was found hanging by a belt from a ceiling fan at about 2:15 p.m. on 220th Street in Queens Village, cops said. The troubled tween left behind a heartbreaking note that recounted the torture she endured at the hands of bullies at IS 109. She also apologized to her family and tried to explain the reasons behind her decision. Her devastated mom, Glenda Molina, told police her daughter was depressed over constant online harassment from classmates. “She’s very quiet, very friendly,” said her heartbroken aunt, Irma Molina, who saw her niece’s body. “She wanted to dance and sing. She’s so young. I don’t understand.” The aunt said Gabrielle’s sister, Georgia, 15, broke into a locked bedroom to reach her sibling when she didn’t answer the door. Gabrielle lived with her parents, sister and older brother, Geonel. Her mom works as a nurse’s aide, while her father, George, is employed at a recycling plant. “They’re just a wonderful family,” said a neighbor. “The girls were very sweet. They would always say hello. It’s just so sad. I don’t know how they are going to get by.” Another neighbor said she was shocked that the little girl who frolicked with her sister chose to end her life. Cyberbullying is on the rise across the country. Staten Island teen Amanda Cummings threw herself in front of a bus last year after being incessantly bullied by a clique of cruel classmates at New Dorp HS. Her friends and family said she spiraled into a deep depression because she couldn’t escape the abuse, which focused on everything from her looks to her failures with boyfriends. The National Crime Prevention Council says 43 percent of teens are subject to cyberbullying. Does it seem like there are more teen and tween suicides these days or is it just more reported? Regardless, kids have got to gain more compassion. It’s so sad that these senseless suicides continue to happen Continue reading

Kush Chronic-les: Survey Says, New York Has A Record High Number of Piff-Puffin’ Teens!!!

A new survey shows most numbers are up when it comes to teens and that mary jane , drinking, and more. Looks like that stick-icky is being bought by teenager’s more often than we thought. While Mayor Bloomberg is trying to make the whole city healthy, our kids are going to pot! The percentage of city teens who get high on weed jumped to 17.7 percent last year — by far the highest rate during Hizzoner’s 10-year tenure, according to a new health survey obtained by The Post. The blunt figure is up from the 12.3 percent who smoked weed in 2005. “Every kid my age does it, but it is not a good thing,’’ said Catherine Reyes, 16, of Brooklyn. “They can end up in bad situations.” The boost in marijuana use was just one of the alarming findings in the biannual youth-risk behavior survey put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention… The same report also found that nearly a third of underage teens drink booze. In another blow to the health-conscious “Nanny’’ Bloomberg, the statistics show that many city kids are big couch potatoes, too. More than one in four — 28 percent — are overweight or obese, and 21 percent still drink sugary soda, although that’s down from 28 percent in 2005… Part of teens’ problem is 80 percent don’t get the recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise. Nearly six in 10 kids said they don’t have daily gym class in school. In New York, it’s not a requirement in high school. Half of the teens surveyed don’t even ride a bike. Instead, 44 percent play video games or surf the Web for fun on school days, and 38 percent watch more than three hours of TV daily…For many teens, sex seems to be their only physical activity. Nearly 38 percent said they’ve already had sexual intercourse — almost half before age 13. Despite the findings, a Health Department rep insisted, “New York City youth remain in better shape than their peers around the country when it comes to physical education and obesity, as well as rates of alcohol and illicit drug abuse.” Tell us what you think about youngins these days tokin’ at such an early age? Lil Scrappy Thanks Frank Ocean, Believes Homosexuality is "Doorway to AIDS"

Following his admission that he has shared a sexual experience with a man, R&B star Frank Ocean has received plenty of support from the music community. Both Russell Simmons and the rapper Trina have offered Ocean their best wishes. Now, Lil Scrappy has also gone on record and given Ocean props… but for a very different reason. “I’m glad that he came out,” Lil Scrappy told TMZ. “So all the real women that love to mess with real men, straight men, we can keep the AIDS situation down, you feel me?” This artist – who says he would work with Ocean against in an instant – also believes “[homosexuality] is a doorway to AIDS, scientifically.” Well… according to 2009 data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, man-on-man intercourse results in 61% of all new HIV infections. Yes, that’s a majority. But Lil Scrappy might be surprised by how small of a majority his scientific data actually spits out.
