Vanessa Grimaldi and Nick Viall Dismiss Critics, Insist They Really Are Happy

Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimadli are tuning out critics after a widely panned debut as a couple on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special . As The Bachelor spoilers predicted, Nick proposed, she said yes … and predictions of their imminent demise also didn’t look far off. Suffice it to say, alumni of Bachelor Nation and fans alike were far from confident in  Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi ‘s future Monday. Past stars from Sean Lowe and Catherine Guidici to J.P. Rosenbaum and Trista Sutter all took to social media to voice their skepticism. Typically you’d see a united front, with the alumni rallying around the couple, but Viall and Grimaldi’s interaction was just that awkward. Yet despite the negative commentary from critics doubting their love for one another, the couple are focusing on the positive together. “You can never make people happy. At the end of the day, we are focusing on our relationship,” said Grimaldi, a special ed teacher. “It’s so easy to focus on the negative, which sometimes I do, and Nick tries to get me out of it. But it’s the world that we’re living in.” The duo admitted that it’s been a struggle up to this point, and that they are ready to live life together without ABC TV cameras rolling. “I was excited for it to end, but now I am sad,” Grimaldi said. “I mean, I’m excited for us to start our real life together.” (NOTE: Why is she sad about it then? This is confusing.) “She’s very much looking forward for this to be over,” Viall added, admitting, “It was very difficult for us as a couple at the end.” While the pair are engaged, they recognize that they “have a long way to go” and “are getting to know each other” these days. “I don’t think any relationship is perfect,” said Vanessa. Definitely not, but most Bachelor and Bachelorette couples come out of the finale looking a bit more optimistic than these two lovebirds. “I hope we came across as in love and passionate tonight,” Nick said, responding to the widespread sentiment that they looked miserable. “The reality is – we joke about it, but it’s true – we don’t know what it’s like to go to the movies together, to spend time together in the real world.” “Our relationship has been based off of stressful situations.” Vanessa, for her part, seconded that notion and said that “I feel like it’s been on standstill for a little bit … I’m ready to move forward.”  How far forward will they move, though? Think it’ll last? Vote in our poll below: Yes! They are made for each other! No! LOL, just look at them. View Poll » View Slideshow: The Bachelor Stars: Ranked By Relationship Length!

Tyler, The Creator Thinks His VMA Rivals ‘Suck’

‘If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele’s,’ Tyler tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Tyler The Creator Photo: MTV News Tyler, the Creator bites his tongue for no one. Some call him evil, others, unbelievable. So when asked about his feelings on his 2011 MTV VMA Video of the Year nomination, Tyler simply spoke his mind. “I’m really excited, shout out to Ron Artest. If I lose to any of those wackass videos, I’m gonna be mad because they all suck — except for Adele ‘s,” he told MTV News. The Odd Future standout’s self-directed “Yonkers” video is up against Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Beastie Boys’ “Make Some Noise,” Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” and Katy Perry ‘s “Firework.” The “Yonkers” clip, which was uploaded to the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s YouTube page back in February, has since racked up 15 million views. Most noted for the scene in which the rapper hangs himself in the end, the “Yonkers” video has become one of the most talked about and debated works of the year. It earned Tyler a Best New Artist nom as well. While the Cali rapper/producer/director is more respectful of his fellow Best New Artist nominees, he still wants to win that one too. Up against indie poppers Foster the People (“Pumped Up Kicks”), Big Sean (“My Last”), Kreayshawn (“Gucci Gucci”) and Wiz Khalifa (“Black and Yellow”), Tyler will let his guard down just a bit in this category. “The Best New Artist thing, that’s cool. Wiz is a really good dude and I’ve been a fan of his music, so if he wins I’ll be pretty excited. I wanna win that for sure, but Wiz is awesome, I’ve been listening to him since ’08,” he said. “Even Kreayshawn, she’s cool. So if she wins that too, I’ll be pretty stoked. But you know, I wanna win, I’m just gonna keep it 100.” Snagging a VMA has been a goal of the “Sandwitches” MC for months. He has been tweeting feverishly about it, but even he was surprised when he actually heard the nominations announcement. After the group manager called the entire OFWGKTA to a meeting, Tyler grew weary. “We were like, ‘What the f— does he have us here for?’ We were ready to leave. Then the VMA nomination thing came on and I was on my phone and I was like, ‘Oh crap I want to see what wack videos they have this time,’ ” Tyler recalled of his skepticism before being hit with the news. “Then they said my name and was talkin’ about it and I was like ‘What the hell?’ I kinda stopped breathing, I was just sitting there. I was kinda shaking. I don’t know, it was surreal.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Which Rapper Was All Up In Aubrey O’Day’s French Vanilla Guts??

During a pre-recorded interview with Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club this morning, Aubrey HO’Day admitted what we’ve all pretty much known since Season 2 of Making The Band 3 : Aubrey has f*cked a rapper. She claims it was only one and that contrary to popular belief, it was not Diddy. Based on Aubrey’s hints – he’s “way finer” than Diddy and a better rapper; he’s “iconic in his own right”; and he is easily identifiable by the region he represents – and rumors and photos we’ve seen and heard in the past, we’ve narrowed Aubrey’s Hip-Hop conquest down to five artists. Flip through and let us know who you think it was.

Dear Bossip: I Hate His Mother!

Bossip I love my man but I hate his mom!! I don’t know what to do about it because I feel like I’m losing the battle. I’ve been with my man for about 6 months and I know we’re going to be together forever but his mom is in the way!!! I realize that we haven’t dated long but we have fallen head over hills in love with each other and she just won’t accept that. We are both grown so she should trust our judgment and not be so negative. I know she feels touched behind our age difference because he’s 7 years older than be but like I said we’re both grown and at 28 I feel like I’m mature enough to make my own decisions that are RIGHT FOR ME!!! When he took me to her birthday party he said she was excited to meet me but when we got there she was very cold and standoffish and I could feel her eyes on me from a mile away and from that point on I knew that she didn’t like me. When we left the party I told her that I’d see her soon and she said we’ll see or something like that I took it to heart and told my man how upset it made me. He said that she’s just really protective over him and that she’ll warm up to me but that has yet to happen!!! When he brought her over his place for a bbq we were having she was making faces at me and so I know exactly what to do to get under her skin so I was rubbing his chest and kissing on him in front of her and she almost lost it and left early lol!! After that she said I was no longer welcome at her house and it’s made my man upset. This isn’t the first time a mans’ mother has been unkind to me lol but she needs to stay in her place and stop being jealous of me and her son because she’s not fu*cking him!!! I’m really starting to hate this lady because she’s trying to drive a wedge between us!! How do I get her out of out life?? Good day to you, sis! Thank you for writing in and sharing your story! So, you’re tying to figure out a way to remove your boyfriend’s mother from your lives? You serious? Trying to remove a mother from her son’s life is like trying to count the stars in the sky … never going to happen! Please realize that his very reason for being can only be accredited to the woman that you hate but he so dearly loves. At least, be thankful to her for birthing your man? And what makes you think she’s jealous of you hugging, him, kissing, him and loving him? Most, if not all, mothers want their sons to choose a good woman to be their wives and mother to her grandbabies! So, surely you can understand her concern, no? You might have made a point when you said that you’re losing this battle because it’s rare that a man will choose a woman over his mother and you can’t forget who came first! Something to think about. Secondly, it’s not cute to be raunchy or overly provocative in front of his mother! At some point it becomes disrespectful and, worse yet, tacky! Same principle is applied to women, no man would have the guts to feel his lady up in from of her father, and if he did, would Pops be readily accepting of this guy? No! Any mother would hate to think that her son has fallen for a “tramp” and if you’re displaying tramp-like behavior just to spite her, then you can’t blame her for her apprehensions! Not only do your actions show that you’re not willing to try and build a relationships with her, they’re also the precursor for division. Just like you feel she has the potential to drive a wedge between you and your “man” she could very well be frightened behind the thought of you doing the same! Think, Ma! So, here’s the deal. This woman knows her son better than you do in terms of his character and history, so you should be smart about this. His mother may have hang-ups for reasons that have nothing to do with you and that you may know nothing about. Maybe she knows her son well enough to know that he’s making the same mistakes he’s made in the past. Maybe this is his mode of operation – falling for women too fast. Or maybe, just maybe, she feels like you lack the maturity that’s necessary to be taken seriously as a long term partner. Bottom line is this, there’s a reason for her skepticism and if you were smart about it, you would be trying to make her friends list and do all you can to find out why she’s not feeling you and quell her worries. In fact, the fact that there are many mothers who have had a problem with you, have you ever wondered why? If you really love your man, you would go out of your way to make sure that he’s comfortable when you and his mother are in the same space. Plus, he’ll love you that much more if he knows that you made a genuine effort to get to know his mom! Be smart, sis! Be smart and good luck to you! What are your thoughts, Bossip Fam? Please share your thoughts below! Remember to e-mail all topic suggestions, feedback and questions to loveandrelationships@bossip.com !

What if a hurricane hits Long Island?

Hurricane Earl is quickly becoming a major storm and the latest forecasts have it moving dangerously close to the south east of Long Island. There are many experts who say our area is long overdue for a powerful hurricane. New York is second most vulnerable to a major hurricane due to factors like population density, amount of property near coastal areas and the length of time since the last major hurricane. According to the National Weather Service: – every 17 years we should be hit by a Category 1 hurricane – every 39 years we should be hit by a Category 2 hurricane – every 68 years in Nassau County – and 70 years in Suffolk County – we should be hit by a Category 3 storm. So what would happen? Would we see massive evacuations like in the gulf? Or would people here, known for their skepticism, decide to stay put? Some Snippets: -The George Washington and Narrows bridges would have be closed before landfall since they are high up and will experience hurricane force winds before sea level. -Ferry service would have to be stopped six to twelve hours before landfall. -a high Cat 3 or low Cat 4 could flood the Holland and Battery Tunnels and JFK could be under a storm surge of 12 to 20 feet! Google buying UAV drones for Street View spying

Citing a German news report, Techeye.net reports that Google has purchased small UAV “microdrone” aircraft manufactured by Germany's microdrone GmbH, perhaps for use to augment the company's Street View mapping data. Techeye says: The UAVs being flogged are mini helicopters with cameras attached that can be flown about all over the place. They're quiet and resemble sci-fi UFOs for the vertically challenged alien. They can fly up to 80km per hour, so Microdrone CEO Sven Juerss suggests they'll be brilliant for mapping entire neighbourhoods really quickly and relatively cheaply. Even before Google started data mining on open web networks its Street View operations were controversial, with Google Maps picking up on people who didn't exactly want their faces plastered all over the internet. With the kind of high-angle aerial shots this sort of kit can achieve, it boggles the mind as to the sort of images that may be accidentally captured. Our take: Skepticism is warranted, and outrage is probably premature. Our understanding is that FAA certification procedures for civilian UAVs operating in domestic airspace are not yet in place, so it is not clear that the regular operation of such UAVs would be legal — never mind prudent from a privacy or public-relations point of view. http://telstarlogistics.typepad.com/telstarlogistics/2010/08/does-google-plan-to… added by: slagface

Supermarket Stocks: Shopping for Bargains

Morningstar submits: By Michelle Chang Although economic conditions improved throughout 2009, domestic grocery store operators have not benefited due to food deflation, a heavy promotional environment, and labor costs. According to U.S. Census data, grocery stores are expected to generate roughly flat growth in 2009 from the prior year, after generating a compound annual growth rate of 4% from 2002 to 2008. The beginning of 2010 appears to be challenging, as consumers are still grappling with a high unemployment rate and tighter credit. The Fight for Consumers’ Dollars Intensified in 2009 and Will Likely Remain Tough in 2010 In food retail, switching costs for consumers are virtually nonexistent. Individuals largely choose locations based on price, and the situation intensified as the downturn progressed. Grocers reacted by lowering prices to retain traffic. For example, Supervalu’s ( SVU ) Jewel-Osco chain lowered prices by as much as 20% in certain categories to appeal to price-conscious consumers. Safeway ( SWY ), which had previously spent time investing heavily in its stores, also moved to a low-cost, low-price strategy. Even Kroger ( KR ) , which had been the most proactive in repositioning stores to better compete with deep discount formats, lowered prices to maintain market share. We believe competition will remain intense, particularly as Wal-Mart ( WMT ) (the largest food retailer in the U.S. with approximately $130 billion of grocery share, around 20% market share) has renewed its low-price policy with a vengeance, and Target ( TGT ) is testing a new store format that increases its presence in perishables. While all operators have been negatively affected by the competitive environment, we believe the grocers we cover can withstand these pressures better than smaller independent chains. The grocery industry remains highly fragmented. Kroger is the second-largest food retailer with an approximate 10% share of the market, according to our calculations. The next three largest retailers in terms of sales, Costco ( COST ), Safeway and Supervalu, each hold around 5 share by our estimates. We believe that these larger operators are poised to take share from smaller regional chains that have struggled and gone bankrupt amid the economic downturn. Complete Story

Google vs. China: It’s Not Over Yet

Wealth Daily submits: Back in mid-January, Google announced plans to stop censoring search results on their Chinese site. Advocates of free speech are cheering, but Google investors are shaking their heads. Since the announcement, Google shares ( GOOG ) are down 6%, while shares of Baidu ( BIDU ) — their largest Chinese competitor — have soared more than 40%. Complete Story

Obama bypassing Senate to appoint key nominees

(L.A.+Times+-+Top+News) Reporting from Washington – The Obama administration moved Saturday to fill 15 economic posts whose nominees are held up in Congress, bypassing the formal Senate confirmation process — a decision that is sure to further anger and embitter Senate Republicans. The move reflected the frustration within the White House about what they see as obstructionist actions by a Republican minority that is intent on blocking the administration's agenda. The Republicans saw the move as confirmation that President Obama had abandoned his pledges of trying to govern in a bipartisan way and further deepened their skepticism over the administration's economic policy. As the White House announced its intention to make the recess appointments, an administration official confirmed that Obama would name Donald M. Berwick, a pediatrician who has pushed hospitals to lower costs and improve care, to head a crucial agency overseeing parts of the new healthcare law. added by: CaptSutter
