MPAA Whisperer Harvey Weinstein Gets PG-13 For Miral

Good news, kids: Less than 48 hours after Julian Schnabel’s public dismay over the “R” rating for his new, youth-focused Middle East drama Miral , the MPAA has come around with a PG-13. A tsunami of youngs will no doubt ensue at the art house when the film opens March 25 via… who else? The Weinstein Company, whose MPAA -whispering godfather Harvey Weinstein also happened to shake off Blue Valentine ‘s NC-17 last fall. (To say nothing of his forcing of The King’s Speech’s R-rated square peg into a PG-13 round hole .) Congrats to the whole team! [ THR ]

Meghan McCain Apparently Not Thrilled With Game Change Casting

Twitter star — and Bristol Palin basher — Meghan McCain has had knives out for the upcoming HBO movie Game Change since it was announced that the Mark Halperin and John Heilemann book was coming to the small screen. “I hope all the leakers that talked to Mark Halperin are pleased — that book is 70 percent fiction,” McCain wrote on Twitter last December. “I am sure the miniseries will come out in time for the next election to make sure everything Obama campaign related looks flawless. It’s like being part of something that never dies.” Now that casting has started up on Game Change in earnest, it appears McCain has some further thoughts on the telefilm.

REVIEW: Curse of the Werewolf Haunts Red Riding Hood — Or Is It Just ‘The Curse’?

An alternate title for Red Riding Hood might have been “Catherine Hardwicke’s Revenge”: This might have been the director’s chance to restake her claim on the territory of steamy teen fairytales, after New Moon, the sequel to Hardwicke’s enormously successful (and, for my money, effective) Twilight , was removed from her plate and given to Chris Weitz. Red Riding Hood certainly reads like a faux Twilight, only this time a werewolf, not a vampire, is the stand-in for the terrifying unknowability of sex. There’s no reason that little tweak shouldn’t work. One set of fangs is as good as another, right?

The stoic drama A Somewhat Gentle Man is photographed in a palate of steel gray tones that match Stellan Skarsgård’s complexion. It’s a low-blood-pressure version of the kind of thing James M. Cain used to do in his sleep, and its filmmaking accomplishment is as minimalist as its narrative ambition is minimal. Man has the confidence of knowing exactly where it wants to go, and when it wants to arrive; however, you may be just as familiar with the territory as the driver.

Here’s current Miss Universe Stefania Fernandez leading her bikini assault team in some sexy poses for what I’m guessing are some promotional shots for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas. I wish there were such a thing as bikini assault teams, drop them into enemy territory, have them charge at hostile combatants in their high heels and bikinis… Conflict resolve.
