Jude Law Singing ‘Johnny B. Goode,’ and 5 Other Videos of Celebrity Karaoke

The bargain bins of your local record store (assuming you still have one!) are littered with vanity albums released by movie stars who decided what they’d really rather be is a rock star. Fortunately, there are some actors who get that impulse out the way the rest of us do: through karaoke. In honor of a newly unearthed clip of Jude Law singing his heart out, here are six stars who are fiends for karaoke:

Pauly Shore: ‘Maybe I Could Become the West Coast’s Woody Allen’

Like Pink’s Hot Dogs, Pauly Shore is a Los Angeles institution that can attract long lines ( Encino Man , Son in Law and Jury Duty ), has been accused of questionable taste ( Bio-Dome , Junket Whore ) and never claims to be good for your health. Two decades after he debuted on MTV as a spacey VJ, the actor and comedian — whose legendary family founded and continues to run the Comedy Store — is reinventing himself with Adopted , a mockumentary about adopting an African child, while also working on a new MTV project and a film about a “slut vigilante.” Last week, while waiting for a call from Quentin Tarantino, Shore phoned Movieline to discuss his latest film, his Bill Murray strategy and the Weez’s newfound maturity.

Now Playing at Movieline: Stephanie Zacharek’s Video Review of The Kids Are All Right

Guess what, everyone? It turns out you don’t have to wait ’til Inception for the second high-quality entry in the summer-movie sweepstakes: A week before Chris-mas, here come Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo to shatter the art house in The Kids Are All Right . It’s so good . It’s like Toy Story 3 , but with middle-aged lesbians, their adopted kids and a cutie-pie sperm donor where the CGI playthings go. It’s actually even more like Inception , except we’ve seen it. God, I’m so breathless with how good this movie is. Gaspcall911. Take over for me, chief critic Stephanie Zacharek!

On VOD: Will the Real Best Reality-Competition Series Please Stand Up?

I’m hard to please, I know, but reality shows just won’t interest me until they actually involve outright homicide, like they do in movies. You know, Death Race 2000 (just out on Blu-ray!), Rollerball , Battle Royale , ad infinitum. I guess until that happens we’ll just have to be satisfied with the simulacra, including Daniel Minahan’s forgotten mock-doc Series 7: The Contenders , on demand…

Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman Would Have Worn Pants Too

Were you a little put out by the DC Comics unveiling of the newly redesigned Wonder Woman , who now wears pants and a Hot Topic jacket while boasting breasts the size of her head? 9 Heat Wave Movies to Help Survive the Hellish Summer of 2010

They say the heat wave that crushed much of the East Coast all week has abated, but 10 out of 10 respondents to a Movieline poll of melting men on the street agree: 90 degrees with 100 percent humidity still sucks . But at least we’re all in this together — and with the movies, which are rich with tales of city folks sweating out the worst seasonal crap summer has to offer. And I don’t mean The Last Airbender . Read on and recount nine of the best.
